Saw the movie. While it suffers from "if we're vague enough, and jump around a lot, people will think we're clever" syndrome, I thought Sasha did a great job. And I think I would have been even more impressed by her performance if she had been a stranger to me, instead of someone whose posts I've been reading here for several years (as well as someone who, twelve hours earlier, I was watching have things done to her butt by John Stagliano).

Some questions for Sasha:
When you started this job (porn) did you already think about mainstream?
Was it a your project?
Is/was the porn only a great advertings for you?

I was talking about Sasha Knox in my post. I didn't know about TGE at the time of my posting. Sasha Knox is not the same as Sasha Grey. Sasha Grey is unique, and that's why she's so popular.

Now I'd like to see this movie get made! Imagine Sasha like some badass Arnold Schwarzenegger chick tearing it up in the jungle...we need Bruce Willis (ala "Tears of the Sun") and Jeffrey Donovan of "Burn Notice" fame to star along side her also. She would be great sweety and holding an M16. Could be good. I could see her playing a hot, but tough chick like the character of Fiona on "Burn Notice"

Has Sasha pretty much stopped performing - apart from the odd scene?
Is she concentrating on an acting career now?

It wouldn't surprise me if she concentrates on Grey Art and her website from now on. I can't see her doing much more gonzo, but it'll be interesting to see her directorial debut.

The link is still there for me. Here is the article anyway:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Adult-film actor Sasha Grey, star of Soderbergh's The Girlfriend Experience, is cultivating a career in Hollywood.
What is a porn star like? Do they fulfil the cliche of ''women in micro-minis and four-inch stilettos and fishnet stockings, actresses … made up in Day-Glo mascara and cornea-damaging, super-reflective lip gloss, [resembling] garish orchids''? This is how Los Angeles Magazine writer Dave Gardetta described them after six months researching a story on porn star Sasha Grey in California's infamous San Fernando Valley.
Sitting at the Hilton in Sydney with Sasha Grey is a surprise. First, she is very attractive in a very non-garish way. Second, if you saw her walking down the street in Sydney, with her knee-length boots and her demure face with its oh-so-subtle make-up, you'd think she was just another very successful, pretty, vibrant young executive.
There's no hint that this 22-year-old, who was born [deleted] in Sacramento, California, has made, according to the Internet Movie Database, a staggering 176 movies since 2006 including such undoubted classics as My Evil Sluts 3.
That's more than twice the movies Paul Newman made in a career lasting 54 years. Even the prolific Jack Nicholson has only made 46 movies in the past 40 years.
When asked about this extraordinary level of productivity, Grey smiles and, with a knowing look, observes: ''I think what the outside doesn't understand is that you can shoot a scene in four hours. It might say on your resumé that you've made 160 films but it is actually 160 scenes. So you are not doing five scenes in the one film. It is a lot quicker to shoot, especially because of video.''
And now Grey, who can declare after only three years in the business that she is ''controlling my own product and I have my own company. I am able to create the kind of movies where I have the say from beginning to end as a producer and performer'', has expanded into mainstream movies with the lead role in Steven Soderbergh's The Girlfriend Experience.
For those unfamiliar with the sexual mores of New York, the ''girlfriend experience'' is where a wealthy man hires a hooker on the condition that she behaves as though she is his girlfriend, which usually involves being interested in what he talks about, going out to dinner, being a companion and, almost incidentally, providing sex.
The Girlfriend Experience is another contribution to Soderbergh's ''blockbuster-then-art film'' cycle, which has seen his work on Ocean's Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen balanced by low-budget art films such as Full Frontal (2002) and Bubble (2005).
As Grey explains, the film was made as a low-budget exercise. ''There was a lot of improvisation,'' she says. ''We had an outline, so it was shot in chronological order, which is quite rare. It was really nice because it kept up the pace and the energy.
''We only did three to four takes per scene. Usually three and that was it. There are a few moments where it was very natural … It allows for the awkwardness that happens in real life. You don't always come up with a perfect result.''
The end result is a film about sex that has no sex scenes. Grey plays high-class (and highly remunerated) New York escort, Chelsea.
This invites the cynical observation that, in choosing a porn star to play his main character, Soderbergh was playing an intellectual game: trying to see if he could make a film about sex, starring a porn star, that had no sex in it.
When asked about this strange contradiction, Grey explains: ''I think it is about the transaction. It is the one type of prostitute that offers more than just the sex. It is like what Steven said: 'They all have common themes. Let's take that common theme out and show you the relationships that are cultivated with Chelsea and her clients.'''
It also means, particularly because of the improvisation, that the film ends up being a savage attack on US capitalism.
Grey admits Soderbergh has said of the theme of the movie: ''Everything in life is a transaction, whether you are flipping burgers at McDonald's or you're an escort or you're a girl on the street who has a pimp. Everything is a transaction. Whether you are selling sex or not, you are always selling something.''
When this theme is added to filming at a time when the world economy is in freefall, it ends up being about men with enough money to buy prostitutes for a ''girlfriend experience'' all concerned about how the money markets are behaving.
''By happy accident - it is not happy in real life but for the sake of the film - the economy did crash when we started shooting,'' Grey says. ''So the real-life situations fitted into the film because we were dealing with those kinds of people.''
Most importantly for Grey, it is, hopefully, the beginning of a new stage in her career, with other offers for mainstream films coming in.
Anyone who has seen Boogie Nights or Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends television documentary on the US porn industry will know it is a common dream of porn stars that they are biding their time to become mainstream movie stars.
Grey, who now would be very wealthy because of her business acumen and her status as one of the US's leading porn stars, doesn't see her career in that way.
''Right now I am really happy being able to challenge the status quo. It never has been done before that you have a woman who is performing in adult films but she is also doing non-adult films. Usually it is the redeemed sinner.''

I finally got around to watching this movie last night. I thought Sasha did a great job, the movie was slow at times but all in all I thought it was cool to see a movie delving into the world of GFE providers and hobbyists. I don't know if the movie is nearly as compelling to people who have not worked as escorts, but I enjoyed it.
Does anyone know who the street performers towards the end of the movie were? The kids that looked like hobo's? I couldn't figure it out from the credits.

Sasha Grey is beautiful. And, like we all can see, she's got the ability to convince producers or directors giving her a role in a movie (if Hollywood would be China or South Korea that'd push your career immediately, but I don't know much of Hollywood).
Sasha is ambitious and can act. Hope she'll have success with that.

The act of trying to put people down when you can't grow up to match them is as old as humanity.
The gossip programs on television that thrive on capturing stars behaving badly have only encouraged and legitimized this flaw.

I think Sasha can be a great mainstream actress, I don't see why not.
Times have changed and I think one of the great breakthroughs was the "other" direction - Chloe Sevigny in that scene in "The Brown Bunny" that she took so much heat for. I think this inadvertently provided a pathway for Sasha in her present endeavors.
There are formidable powers that still exist to keep their agenda alive and well in Hollywood - a titanium clad razor-wire fence keeping hardcore activities away from mainstream but they're a dying and decaying bunch. An actress/actor that has done "other" stuff may be, in the future still considered for mainstream.
There are people that still believe that Stanly Kubrick's famous film "Eyes Wide Shut" was completely destroyed by Hollywood because his death released the lawyers that hacked this film to death. What we finally saw was washed of any hardcore activity that existed and the removal was against Kubricks wishes.

Askmen's annual top 99 is a who's who of beautiful models, actresses, singers, etc. I don't know if they've ever included a pornstar before, I've looked at it several years and I don't remember such a thing! the top 25 this year includes Emmanuelle Chriqui, Marisa Miller, Kate Beckinsale, Alessandra Ambrosio, Jessica Alba, Beyonce, Penelope Cruz, Eva Mendes, Miranda Kerr, Megan Fox, Giselle Bundchen, Bar Rafaeli, Erin Andrews, Padma Lakshmi, Kelly Brook, Natalie Portman, January Jones, Monica Bellucci, Paz Vega, Kristen Stewart, Keely Hazell, Scarlett Johansson, Adriana Lima and Layla Kayleigh.
The bottom 10 are: Carrie Underwood, Julia Allison, Carey Mulligan, Audrey Tautou, Alexa Chung, Erin Burnett, Diora Baird, Sasha Grey!, Arianny Celeste and Jamie-Lynn Sigler.

Sasha wanted Hollywood, and it looks like she's getting it.  She's a cast member in two mainstream films this year, that I know of.  They are "The Girl from the Naked Eye", which had a limited release recently, as well as "Would You Rather", which will be released later this year.  She's also cast in a 2013 mainstream film titled "Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story".
It looks like she may be breaking through.

^ A movie about porn (Inferno) and a movie about a call girl (Naked Eye)...kinda disheartening of this is all she gets offered.
However, Would You Rather sounds interesting (not that movies about commercial sex are not interesting), and stars Jeffrey Combs. I'm in! And, as always, I wish Sasha the very best.

That's a good point.  However, there's a big difference between acting in a role that portrays someone in a sex industry, and actually being in a sex industry.  Also, the film "Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story" is set to cast a number of actors that are at least moderately well known, such as Malin Akerman, Adam Goldberg, Matt Dillon, and Paz de la Huerta.  Furthermore, it looks like Sasha will have a higher-level billing in this film.

^ Oh of course. I'm not putting down the creation of such films, nor performing in them. But it is rare that a porn performer "crosses over" and manages to break out of being typecast as a stripper/hooker/porn star/escort.

The only porn performer to have had a moderately successful mainstresam career is Tracie Lord and that's because she got to play more than just roles where she's a prostitute, stripper or the generic nude scene girl.
The jury is still out for Sasha. She has yet to play roles that are more than those stated above. Maybe she can make a decent go at it but I will have to see a lot more before I can say that she has had a similar career as Tracie.
Ginger Lynn has managed to play a couple of roles that aren't like those stated above but they are rare and not necessarily well known.

Surely Wade Nichols has to be one of the most successful crossover stars? He had a fairly successful disco career, and was the star of a long-running TV show, The Edge of Night. He was on that show for five years!
Edited for the dreaded typo...
