The movie was shot for Shot At Home. Many of you know "Shot At Home" - some of you probably don't. They have focused up until now just on the amateur market. Their DVD's are real people at home filming themselves and sending in the footage. It is totally real... no acting...no stars.... just real people having sex.

Shot At Home approached me about an idea they had for a whole new line for them: a porn star line - a line where the porn stars shot themselves at home. Where the porn stars give a tour of the house, show off their panty drawer and closet, masturbate, etc. Shot At Home wanted me to be the first porn star in their new line ever...

And, it happened.

This movie is NOT Selena Silver: The Porn Star. This movie is Selena Silver: At Home.

I will admit that I had to think about it for a long time; I wasn't sure at first. Shot At Home has a market niche of people turned off by normal porn - they don't want fake breasts, overdone porn makeup, or cheesy acting. They want intimate realness. But, to a dedicated porn fan that intimate realness that Shot At Home brings can also mean by production studio standards lower quality lighting, video, and sound. I mean the average person at home shooting with a $500 camcorder and no sense of lighting or camera skills is not going to make something look like Quaserman shot it.

I was concerned because I wasn't going to let my porn fans down by doing something that compromised the professional quality they would expect from me, but the same time I had to find a way to connect in the way that an existing Shot At Home audience would accept and relate to.

That was a challenge that excited me. Did I succeed? I will only know after I hear your feedback.

But, what really attracted me to the project? I LOVE watching girls get fucked that I feel like I know. That turns me on so much more than a faceless stranger taking it in the ass. My whole career I have tried to be as open and close to true porn fans as I can. (And, except for the shameful case of Cobalt believing I was his mother it worked. Even Skronker sees my face when he visits the neighborhood grocer!)

I watched some major porn companies Porn Stars At Home type lines and saw why the Shot At Home fans don't buy it. Quite frankly, I saw some videos that were total crap. The girls weren't letting the fans in. It wasn't intimate. It was just another staged setup with a hook. I wanted something different than that. I wanted a connection that probably has been done before (I just personally haven't seen it), but that was going to make people feel about me in a way you don't normally feel about your favorite porn star. I want you to feel like you know me; like you know my life. I mean you have incredible lust for your favorite girl, but do you really know her? I promise you this... when you finish this movie you will either be turned off me or you will be turned on to me. I wanted to try to make a porn that would make you feel.

This is me being the real me at home... I give a tour of the house - you can see where I sit when I write my reviews, plan my KSEX show, or reply to emails; you can see my bedroom and bed; you can see where I paint; you can see where I swim; you can see where my swinging parties happen. I tell stories about personal things that have happened in my life during that tour.

I do two major interviews - one in the pool and one in the tub - where I answer every personal erotic question that I get asked:

There is a very teasing sequence in the closet where I undress and dress in many different outfits that you have seen me wear in different porn movies - the whole time I am talking to the you...and it gets pretty dirty...

There is an even more teasing scene where I dance to "Lush" as I strip tease in front of the floor to ceiling windows at dusk with the lights of the city behind me...

I watch one of my favorite porn scenes with you and describe what I am thinking and feeling during it; I talk about the DP happening in the scene. When I started wanting to do things like that...

Oh, and there is some great solo sex too... The opening scene is one of my favorites. Masturbating on a wooden floor underneath of Buddha... I am really glad that Steph asked me (what seems like ages ago!) to do a Porn Pick of the Week review. It really let me analyze what I thought was a good movie and what I didn't think was a good movie. And, after writing 39 of my own, after reading over 100 reviews written about movies I am in, and after reading hundreds of other reviews I have learned one simple thing: porn is all about taste .

For everything I love about a movie, someone else is going to hate it. Porn is about fetishes, turn-on's, and turn-off's. Person A demands the shoes on and refuses to watch a scene unless they are on; Person B demands the shoes off and refuses to watch the scene unless they are off. Person C hates spitting, choking, and slapping and won't touch a movie that has it; Person D believes that any movie without it is lame and won't watch it.

That is why I decided to go to a review format that listed every act in every scene - giving you the information to make up your own mind whether you personally would like this movie. I have had people write that they have bought a movie only because of my reviews; I have had people write saying they were going to buy a movie and didn't because of my review (even though I was recommending it!).

Because of this learning process I was fortunate enough to go through, I was mentally ready for my very first review of a movie I created. I was nervous, but I wasn't going to be stung by criticism the way I might have been without this golden nugget of truth: porn is all about taste.

I didn't know how this movie was going to play out. It is a unique movie for our industry. I am really, really pleased that so far both Den and Astroknight - two reviewers who I respect a great deal - have dug this movie.

It is fascinating watching the difference in taste even among people who like it. My favorite part of the whole movie is the dancing to music in the darkness of dusk. I think it really captured how comfortable that house is and my favorite time of day. Den didn't agree. He thought it was just too dark of lighting. Astro agreed - he found it erotic. A PERFECT example of taste. And, you know what - they are both right! Everyone has their own taste. Did that scene work? Ultimately, only you can decide. (So go buy the movie, dammitt, and report back here! lol)

It was interesting seeing Astro commenting on the sound quality. While Andy at Shot At Home gave me total freedom to create the movie, he was very, very strict on telling me that the movie had to retain a "home video" feel. That was the hardest part for me. I care alot about professional quality and I have been studying people like Guy Capo! I didn't want to compromise video quality - so that left sound and camera work.

With the sound: if I was shooting this for a studio, I would have used a boom mic. That would have meant perfect sound anywhere, it would have allowed us to filter out background noise better, and then we would have worked on the sound mixing. I decided to go with the standard camera mic and not edit the sound. Home video. I am glad Astro felt that had an "authentic" feel. That is what I was going for. God, was it tough trying to nail both niches!

The bottom line though... my goal was to make a very personal and intimate movie. To me- that is incredibly sexy. I am really glad that it appears that the reviewers feel that goal was achieved in this movie. I can't wait to hear the fan feedback as they start to order the movie.

I told Andy at Shot At Home that after I finished it, I was really proud of it. And, that it really made me want to shoot a line of Porn Stars At Home - really capturing porn stars as who they are.

There are so many talented, intelligent, creative girls in this business - each with something unique to offer the world. I have respect so many girls in this industry and love a lot of them.

There is so much about them that you don't know. Things that I think would fascinate you and turn you on even more if you knew them.

I am seriously thinking about shooting a line where I spend a couple of days with a porn girl and really capture - them - just like this move.

What do you think about that idea?

Why?

Shot At Home hasn't shipped internationally before. They are working right now on a solution so that international customers can get this as well.

Second, there are three excellent reviews of the shot at home movie.

Third, there are comments about the shot at home film by bono-ONE in addition to his review describing the movie.

Last, but not least, there are Selena’s own comments in this thread about the film.

These reviews and postings describe the scene by scene content much better than I could, so I will just make a few random observations and comments instead of describing the film and scenes.

Organization: Too many amateur or shot-at-home are simply too random for my taste. Selena avoided this. She obviously had sat down and planned the sequence of shots and locations and how she wanted it presented. This is not scripted, per se, but planned and organized. The result is a very good flow from one scene and location to another as she shares a weekend with you and a tour of her house.

Camera work: I was not expecting much in this area, and as such I was very pleasantly surprised. I dislike the ‘tripod mounted’ shots (ala Pierre Woodman – Casting series) which seem to pervade the amateur market. One of the previews included on this DVD has an example where a woman deep throats (successfully I might add) her partner but half the penis, and therefore half the action, are off the screen at the bottom. The camera work IMO is very well done, with the camera moving around to get different angles, some closer shots, and some all inclusive distance shots. Kudos to Kent Silver. Sure, it’s not Mike Quasar, Stagliano, or John Leslie, but very good for this genre.

Lighting: Again I was not expecting much in this area and again I was very pleasantly surprised. Hell lighting can be a bugaboo for fairly experienced shooters. Some can shoot indoors well, but are crap in sunlight, and vice versa. With one exception, both the indoor and outdoor shots were well done and you could clearly see everything. Indoors, you could see Selena and the whole room, and since she was giving a tour of her house that was important. The exception? The dance scene in the evening at the large windows with the city lights in the background. It was too dark for me. Having said that though, I know it would be one hell of a challenge for the best expert to get clear lighting of Selena and still have the city light showing up well. The only other ‘glitch’ was the zoom shots. Andy, from Shot-at-home, has already mentioned it somewhere here on the forums but I can’t find that reference at the moment. But the sound track carried on smoothly through the ‘glitch’ area and overall it is minor. Again, kudos to Kent Silver.

Sound: Usually pretty poor IMO in amateur movies. Again I was very pleasantly surprised. It was even pretty well throughout the movie and I did not have to constantly crank the volume up or down. You could hear what Selena was saying. There was the occasional bump, or knock, as they moved around the house, but never enough to get in the way. Without directional mikes or booms, it came out very well.

Interview, or answering question: I like BTS and interviews in general, but I am tired of the disembodied male voice asking the questions to be answered by the girl on screen – “How old were you when you first had sex?” IMO, the best interviews were given by Simon Wolfe where the girl repeated what the question was and then answered it. This is exactly what Selena did, and it was not concentrated in a single scene but distributed. Great, I liked that.

Randon thoughts:

Your kitchen, I loved it. Damn that is a kitchen I could certainly enjoy getting into and womping up a few goodies. You said your house was a clothes free zone but trust me, you wouldn’t want me nekkid in your kitchen. Oh, and you certainly looked enticing standing there topless and pleasuring yourself while making tea.

I had to chuckle when you were watching the monitor and making notes for a review, and then tossing yourself off. I’ve only written a few reviews, but if I tried tossing myself off while making notes to write a review – I never would have been able to submit a single review.

A thought kept running through my mind with the chatter/patter in several scenes. You were talking to the viewer (not Kent the cameraman). You have never mentioned it, but are you sure that you have never been a phone sex girl? Damn lady, I think you could talk a load out of even the most reluctant phone sex aficionado. Umm, that is meant as a compliment.

Note to DB Are you listening? There are orgasms in this movie, but there is not a single pop-shot! None. Nada. Zilch. Zero. It would score well in your scoring system.

Also in regards to the orgasms, thank you for showing it the way it is. In my own personal experience it takes a few moments for the lady to settle back down. Too often in porn movies, the girl supposedly has one and then 1/10 of a second later is pounding hard again. It was a pleasure to see the few moments of coming down, savoring the whole thing, and having the camera stay on it. It made it so much more real.

Selena made a few comments in her first statement in this thread of what she hoped to accomplish:

Summary: Overall I would give this a 4.5 rating. Where did it drop? With the zoom glitch, though it was minor was still there, and the dark scene. Guess I go more with Den Cavr on this aspect. But I am very glad I purchased it, and I will treasure it for the inside glimpses of Selena – the person, that it contains and there are not many movies that I would ever give a 4.5 to.

(Final comment: Geez Selena, I’ve just re-read my ramblings. I hope you don’t feel I dissected it too much. The scene by scene reviews had already been done so well by others that I tried to take a different approach.)

I don't understand what's the deal with ADT reviews on this title. I read 3 reviews with nearly all a perfect score. If I understand correctly, this is a movie with Selena Silver who's at home... completely ALONE. How on earth does it get 5 stars as a porn movie? Nothing against Selena, but I mean even Hilton's video had a blowjob and some sex. I am not even mentioning cum shots.

Here's an example. Give a review of a car, an airplane, a bicycle. Three modes of transportation.

You couldn't reasonably use the same criteria to evaluate or review the performance of the three. 0-60 just wouldn't apply to the bicycle.

I used a slightly diffferent set of criteria when I was looking at the movie, and in the context of 'amateur, shot-at-home' the movie comes up very high.

I have mixed feeling about the score. For me, movie with full 5 stars means a masterpiece, perfection, a must-buy for every porn viewer. By giving a movie 5 stars, you are suggesting it's perfect and that, basically, it can't be improved. Are you honestly saying that this movie can't be better than it already is???
