If you're a novice at this, the way to tell you've gone too far is when your partner passes out. It's around that point that you quickly lose your erection as what can only be called 'Panic and Hysteria' occur.
And then when she wakes up and tells you it was the best orgasm ever, you have to wonder whether you're in the right bed...
But in porn? It's done as a possessive/humiliation hold for all the wrong reasons far too often IMHO. Maybe it's just that a lot of the guys I see doing it are clearly not versed in SM play?

Well like I said for me, it does nothing for me. Not a turn on watching a guy put his one hand or both hands around the woman's neck. Although I am more a fan of features than gonzo by far. And even the throat gagging just does not do anything for me either personally. Never saw the turn on with that. If anything to me, both are more humiliating. But that does not say I am putting anyone down who enjoys watching it or women who enjoy having it done to them. It is sex play, and no one is being forced to do anything they sure do not want to do. Just my opinion nothing more. If a woman asked me to choke her, not literally, but to put my hands around her neck, I would not do it. I would not feel comfortable doing that. Just me.
Personally I don't dig the choking thing. It creeps me out. I think it's because I never want to be in that position. It's a reaction like when a guy sees another guy get hit in the balls--they flinch and feel very uncomfortable--just like I feel when I watch a girl getting choked in a sex scene.
