I'd highly recommend Paul Thomas' BURN, which is the closest I've seen a modern X rated film go in really being visually similar to X rated films of the 1970s. The camerawork, by Greg Dark associate Jane Waters is superb. The film has a very European feeling (Italian to be exact), with numerous roving dolly and zoom shots, as well as extremely colorful and shadowy lighting.
One of the few recent X rated movies I found to be downright beautiful.

I enjoyed Burn - very well-made, well-acted. The problem I had was that it was so close to the mainstream movie, Secretary, that I didn't find it as interesting as I had hoped, seeing as it was mostly a retread of that film. I was hoping for a bit more innovation. Nothing to be sniffed at though - still an admirably well-made movie.

Oh, the plot is indeed nothing interesting, but technically and visually speaking, the film is outstanding.

Sex 1 and 2, from Vivid, with Nikki Dial. I'd also suggest Rawhide and Eden, both from Adam & Eve.
