"ALS Scan is celebrating its 25th year in business. Can you believe it? We started back in early 1996 and we are still going strong today. We wanted to do something special for our members, so we are going to be releasing our top 500 images of all time converted to 4K in 16:9 aspect ratio.

It all started when I got a 43" monitor (LG 43UN700-B 4K) for my computer, and I was not happy that our images did not fill out the 16:9 aspect ratio frame. This is not unique to ALS, as virtually all professional cameras produce raw images that are 3:2 aspect ratio, while most monitors today display in the 16:9 aspect ratio.

I started out thinking that we would make 100 Wallpapers, however, as I started doing it, the results were so good that I could not stop. They just kept getting better and better, and before we knew it we ended up with 500 images!! There are even over 100 rejects that we will release as well in future blog updates. Even the rejects are amazing!

So I went back and selected some of my favorite images over the years and started converting them to 16:9 format in 4K, 5184x2916px. ... This project took me over 4 months to complete. If I missed your favorite picture, I apologize, but many incredible images could not be used for a number of reasons. First and foremost, the image quality had to be of a high enough level, and then the pose, and the uniqueness of the shot had to be special in some way. We had a hard time using any pictures shot before 2007 because the pixel counts on our cameras prior to that were too low and they could not be properly upscaled to 4K. All images shot after 2010 were shot in 4K. There are a few pictures included (maybe less than 20 total) that were shot prior to 2007 or shot on a point-and-shoot camera candid style. These were so hot that I had to include them anyway; I felt they were too good to be left out. Then there was the problem of image conversion. I could not use any image that was shot in portrait mode. To be eligible for selection, an image not only had to be shot in landscape mode, it had to be shot with the subject in the image having enough space around it to be able to be cropped properly into 16:9 mode. I had to manually rebuild the edges of over 100 images in order for them to fill out the 16:9 screen.

These images will work on smaller monitors with lower pixel counts as well. They are perfectly sized to be used on any 16:9 monitor as background wallpapers and/or screensavers.

I have personally reprocessed all of the images with most of them being reprocessed from the original raw file to ensure the highest quality possible. There are even previously unreleased images in the collection. Just put them on a random slideshow and sit back and enjoy. If you have the opportunity, you should check them out on a 43" or larger monitor. If you use a TV, its colors and levels may need to be adjusted for optimal image viewing. Please let us know if you like them. Thank you!! Without you, we would be nothing."
