Is there a version of the story where a 16 year old wasn't raped on camera?

No?

Then gtfo and lock this thread. Fuck, this place bans people for daring to mutter the name Lana Rhoades, but is fine with openly discussing child pornography, as if suddenly free speech is relevant?

Please.

Well, if I may interject one thought on the whole talking about Traci in general. Normally, I'd agree we shouldn't talk about a 16 year old, but in this case, I'll speak for myself and say I saw a bunch of Traci material when it was commercially produced and sold/rented etc. I'm sure a bunch of people here also have, so I think there should be a little leeway on how people talk about her.

I knew you did scholarship on porn, but I didn't know you had focused on the Traci Lords story. Do you have any recommended readings?

Once Upon A Time in the valley is an oral history of Traci Lords. It's the best series to sum up Traci Lords.

I respect your viewpoint, and share it for the most part. Unfortunately life is often not black and white. Was it wrong that Traci Lords had sex on camera? Absolutely. But let's look at all the factors. She lied about her age and fabricated credentials. After that she went on to capitalize on her tragedy. She profited from her situation which arose from her deliberately defrauding porn companies, and let's be honest here porn consumers as well. How do you think we felt knowing we'd been jerking off to watching a 16 year old? I felt sick.

Her methodology seems almost calculated. Larry Flynt published a number of artic

Yes! The weird (or maybe predictable) thing is, very few people have written about her because of the CP association. A colleague of mine completed a project about the video era and had a whole section on Traci, and his editors told him to remove it. Traci occupies a mere footnote. That's how nervous people are about this stuff. There are a couple of legal examinations, and David Church is currently completing a scholarly article about Traci from a film/media studies perspective. I think his will be the first of its kind (other than mine, which I never submitted for publication). Anyway, here are the two main scholarly works I have found (not including the ones that touch on Lords, but don't focus exclusively on her):

Thanks, I just downloaded both of them. Unfortunately, I'm having printer issues, so I probably won't give them a close reading.

MOD:
You should know that we aren't going to leave up a post telling people how to find underage porn. I don't know why the hell you would even post that.

I personally think the entire Traci Lords scenes being illegal is ridiculous. Sure, if they don't want the studio to continue to sell the vids she made while underage that's understandable, but to go after an end user for possession of child pornography is just silly. There is a big difference between a child molester and a statutory rapist. There is also a difference between someone who collects child pornography and someone who watches a video of a girl slightly underage. I mean there are people who have sex with underage prostitutes who aren't villainized in that way. But of course, the law is the law whether we agree with it or not. I would love to see Traci's early work, but I'm not willing to go to jail or be branded a sex offender for the privilege.

Just watch adults. Adults are easily legal.

They sure as hell should be villainized if they are having sex with underaged prostitutes. There should be no tolerance at all for that.

I'm sure most agencies investigating child exploitation aren't really concerning themselves with a stray Traci tape from years ago.
However, if any of the guys showing up at the sting house on "To Catch a Predator" had a few Traci tapes in their backpack, I'm sure it'd be a different issue.

On principle I'd agree , but the whole Traci Lords issue was that very few if any other than her then boyfriend Tom Byron had to pay for a very simple reason : Fake ID.
Apparently nobody lured her into porn it was her who found her way in it through fake IDs , so good not even the Authorities ever found out she was underage in all of her 2 year run inside the Industry that was reason enough to release everybody , if even the authorities couldn't discover her ID was fake how could regular people?
So the same would apply to minor prostitutes if they aren't too obviously kid and have fake IDs that aren't too obviously fake it would be hard to convict their customers other than having had sex with a prostitute
