Monique Alexander must have gone fruit loops over the last three months. She took a pristine body and tattooed large Hello Kitty images across her back and abdomen. Why? The folks at Vivid can't be thrilled about it. I'm sure her fans aren't happy either. So, why'd she do it? And, if she needed to get a tattoo, why Hello Kitty? She's like 24 years old - not exactly a teenager anymore. I find this quite puzzling and more than a bit disconcerting.
I'm not a fan of total ink covering a woman's body, but a few here and there are appealing. However, it's irrelevant what either of us like, actually. It's her body and her right to draw on it whatever she chooses. Just because she does porn doesn't mean she gives up that right.
do they have to cover them normally Christian, I wanted a steelers tattoo and found out it was trade marked and would have to be covered, but I don't know about Hello Kitty.
Well I'm not a fan of body art, (it just seems like a little kid drawing on the wall with crayons, except it's their body, and it's sort of permanent), but I don't mind too much small tats on the ankle or other areas. Monique getting Hello Kitty ones is a big surprise, since it seems like she would have gotten one by now. That's interesting, and funny though about the possible copy right infringment thing. To Katja, congrats on your decision, I hope it doesn't hurt too much, but to me you'll be even lovlier without the ink on that gorgeous skin of yours!!
Midtown: In your entire post you didn't even touch on the woman's own personal feelings. It didn't occur to you that she did it because she wanted to? End of story. Why would anyone get a tattoo that catered to a crowd?
I'm not a fan of tattoos on great looking women. My first big frown came when I saw Crystal Dawn (yes, the anal princess from late 1970's & early 1980's) had these awful looking tattoos "Free Rider" on one arm and "Mark" on one ankle. She finally had them removed later in her career.
As time goes by, I noticed more and more girls are having their bodies tattooed unnecessary. As I view, they're not exactly "naked" because tattoos sort-of cover parts of their bodies. It is like seeing a white bird with unnatural painting on the wings & body.
I must congratulate Katja as well as other great looking porn ladies for removing their tattoos to uncover their true beauty.

I am guessing that this question could be answered by about half the people with tattoos currently if they were honest enough with themselves.
Personally, I don't like tatoos. There are a few, however, like Jill Kelly's lipstick kiss on her ass, that stand out. Anyway, it is nice to see performers, male and female, with no tatoos. It is now the exception so I guess we'll just have to deal with it.

I have to agree. I think tattoos look really bad on women....especially the big ones. I'm not sure why anyone gets them. I've seen people covered in them and thought to myself "what were they thinking?". It is sad to see a perfect ass covered in a big ole obnoxious tattoo.

The reason I brought up this topic is not just that I'm not a fan of tattoos. I also wonder - sincerely - what is going through a female porn star's head when she opts for a tattoo, especially large and intrusive ones. I'm assuming that one of the reasons she went into the business was to earn a living. Now, along that vein, if she's going to turn off a decent chunk of her potential audience by covering her body with tattoos, then isn't she essentially shooting herself in the foot?
Personally, I've been a big fan of Monique Alexander for a while now. I think she has a very sexy, classic, and even elegant beauty about her. The large tattoo on her back disappointed me. Her hair covers it though, so I tried to rationalize that as long as I didn't see it, it wasn't a big deal. Then though, she went and tattooed her stomach. I've noticed that Vivid has had her or her male co-star try to cover the belly tattoo with a hand in some scenes. But, that's just a little too contrived.
Yes, Monique Alexander and any other female performer can do whatever she wants to her body. But, I and others who feel as I do can also do whatever we want with our viewing choices. In the end, it's all just a business. And, in my opinion, tattoos are bad for this particular business.
I've long believed that the next "gazillionaire" will be the person who invents an easy, painless, quick process to remove tattoos.
Of all of the fads that have occurred over the last 30 years, I think that tattoos are the dumbest because they are the only fad that is permanent (without having to go through many hours of a painful removal process).
I know that lots of people think that they will love their tattoos forever. But that's the same thing that people thought about their "Flock of Seagulls" haircuts and "Like a Virgin" clothing style. Like those, tattoos are a fad that will pass. But there will be a bunch of people who don't have to look at old photos to remember "how silly they used to look". They will just have to look in the mirror.

Frequently when I see that a porn babe is acquiring prominent body art it leads me to think that she has one foot out of the porn door.
It could be that she is insecure about that area of her body and wants to either cover up an unsightly blemish or imperfection or divert the viewers attention away from that unflattering area. Hey, I'd imagine its pretty tough to have your naked body display so often.
But sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Tattoo's are a legitimate and some would say even beautiful way to express yourself.
Thanks for the heads up on Monique's ink. She's one of the few active babes that had caught my eye of late, too bad.
this would be a perfect question to ask Janine Lindemulder.
A small motif tattoo, out of the way somewhere, is acceptable. Sahara Sands, had a small Dolphin somewheres on her belly. And when she became pregnant, the Dolphin sort of expanded with her belly.
Ummm fad of the last 30 years?? Being a person with over 80% of my body tattooed I can tell you this is utterly not true. "Tattooing has been a Eurasian practice at least since Neolithic times. Mummies bearing tattoos and dating from the end of the second millennium BCE have been discovered in Xinjiang, West China. Tattooing in Japan is thought to go back to the Paleolithic era, some ten thousand years ago. Various other cultures have had their own tattoo traditions, ranging from rubbing cuts and other wounds with ashes, to hand-pricking the skin to insert dyes."
I've been working on my tat's for the last 20+ years and I have never looked in the mirror and thought I looked silly. When I first started getting my tat's I faced much of the same criticisms I have heard in this thread. The infamous "What are you gonna do 10 years from now when you decide you don't like them". Well 20 years later and not only has that never happened but I visit my tattoo artist at least 2 times a month for more ink (still have some nasty skin showing on my legs...lol).
My opinion is if a girl gets a tattoo and you decide you don't like her anymore because of that. Then you were a fly by night fan to begin with.
while on the topic, have any of you guys ever heard of Tattoo Sue. Probably the most tattooed woman in America. I think she did a porno with Ron Jeremy.
monique alexander said last week in a web chat that she just got another tattoo of a heart and she said she can't wait to get more, i think someone needs to tell her to stop because she's ruining her body with all these tats i can't believe vivid is happy with her getting all these tattoos.

So, let's say that 25% of fans are "fly by night fans," as you say. The question remains - does it make sense for a porn star to kiss off 25% of her fan base by tatting up her body? I would argue that, no, it does not make sense.
By the way, I don't think this argument applies only to women. Julian inked up his body with some truly ridiculous tattoos. He's got some sort of iron cross on his back and, of course, the infamous torso length one of Jill Kelly. All I can think of when I see that guy now is "for his sake, I hope they don't get a divorce."
However you are leaving out the fan base that she might acquire from people like myself who like women with tat's. It's very possible that it may even out. Whether people like it or not body modification is something that is here to stay. More and more people are getting into it everyday. The last time I was at my tattoo artists shop there was a 64 year old woman getting a very nice entire back piece done. So it is very possible she will be more appealing to the new generation of porn fans. This is called keeping up with the times.
As far as Julian, I agree I would never get my wifes name or picture tattooed on myself. However after seeing his tattoo it would be very easy to modify it to look like no one in particular and just be a tat of a sexy woman. As far as the Iron Cross (Maltese Cross) a little history about it's origins may explain why he chose it. "The Iron Cross originally was the symbol of the Teutonic Knights (a heraldic cross pattée) and the cross design (but not the specific decoration) has been the symbol of Germany's armed forces (now the Bundeswehr) since about 1870." It is a symbol of honor and loyalty. Without knowing the reason behind someone getting a tattoo it is very self serving to make a statement about it.

Let me get this straight. You're the one who owns a tattoo shop, but I'm the one making self serving statements about tattoos? That's really funny.
Ummm no I do not own a tattoo shop. However as much $$$ as I have spent at my my local tattoo shop I feel I should at least own stock in it..lol. I didn't mean to single anyone out with that statement. It was just a general statement about many of the comments I have heard. My appologies if you took it as a personal slur in anyway.
Deicide wrote: Ummm fad of the last 30 years?? Yeah for men, but women haven't been getting tats for the last 30 years, like they have the last 10 years. 30 years ago about the only women who had tats were dating bikers. I didn't find them attractive then, because they seemed too butch, and that's how a lot of women with big arm tats, or breast tats make me feel. I hope this "fad" comes to an end soon, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. I mean some of my fave porn girls (Penny Flame, Riley Mason) have at least one, but it's dam hard to find porn women without a tat these days. Thankfully Jenna Haze hasn't gone that route yet.

I don't particularly like them. I can handle them in small doses (one medium or two small ones per customer) but if I was in the sack with Janine I wouldn't know whether to fuck her or doodle on her arms.
It would hurts with out the "anal"gesic. To teach you never to do a tattoo again, try the second treatment without analgesic and feel the pain of the laser burning your skin. I bet you will never even think about tattooing after experiencing pain like that! Quite intense!
Janine Lindemulder said that she got more tattoos as a way of making sure she stays away from porno business when she appearred on the Howard Stern TV - E! Entertainment Channel back 4 or so years ago. Then she went on it again; like 2 years from that date and had more tattoos on her body and was kind of heistate to show them to Howard; for fear of criticism. Howard did not disappoint in that respect; he just could not believe it! Hate is too weak a word to describe his feelings when Janine finally disclothes and show her body with full tattoos. Ugh!
A pornstar name of Viper had alot of tattoos too and peformed with Ron many times. She had orange hair too! Or was it called a redhead? She was an earlier tattoo look of Janine Lindemulder just before she retired. Full tattos on one side of her body.
Why? Because that's the fashion amongst the young folk these days. You're just out of touch. Also, there are enough of us who _like_ tattoos, that it doesn't hurt their revenue stream for them to do it. The invisible hand of the market, and all that. You don't like it, you must be a communist. :-P

Indeed tattoos on anyone male/female is more socially acceptable and that is reflected in the marketplace. But strictly speaking in economic terms, the mass market is driven by appealing to the lowest common demonimator, distribution and profits are maximized by offending the least.
No matter how you cut it, tattoos will eventually limit a pornstar's ability generate mass appeal. The oft cited Janine is a perfect example and has been quite upfront that she accumulated body art because she wanted to lessen her marketablity as a porn star. She viewed it as her ticket out of porn.
We don't see too many tattoos in the world of high fashion, modeling and men's magazines for the same reason and porn in many ways mimics that world. Despite the fact that wee see more Inked bodies these days tattooing is still discouraged in both industries.

I speculate this is precisely why Monique Alexander has started tattooing her body. It shouldn't come as a surprise that her transformation comes right after Vivid began coercing its girls into doing anal and interracial scenes. She probably had some hesitation and rationalized that she (rather than Vivid) was calling the shots. The tattoos are her way of making the whole issue moot. Enough of them and she won't be in demand - at all.
maybe she is sick of some one having complete control over her body. They (through your dollar) are telling her she has to fuck bare back people she wasnt compfortable fucking before, she has already become the marked down can good in her eyes in the way her company is treating her.
Her reaction to remind vivid and you they don't own her and her body makes sense
If anybody wants to get a tattoo it's their decision. Most of the responses in this thread are very creepy and controlling. If you don't like Monique Alexander or Janine's tattoos, don't buy the videos they are in. I'm sure Monique and Janine REALLY won't mind. Honestly. You may think they will and you are SERIOUSLY impacting their income but you're not. Really. Don't get on some perverted high horse about them "ruining their body" and "alienating their fan base." Should Monique Alexander consult you the next time she gets her hair cut? How about what kind of lipstick she uses?
I think this is indicative of about 70% of the people who regularly post on this board. They feel that since they are the consumer, they can dictate what certain adult film actresses can and cannot do. Is it a requirement that every adult film actress who posts here must be inundated by "when are you going to do anal?", "when are you going to do interracial" and "you were a lot better performer when you did gonzo, the features you are in now, suck." I think these same 70% have serious control issues with women. Almost all adult film actresses DO have very fit, thin, healthy bodies. And then they have to be questioned by (mostly) overweight, poor-hygiene, socially-inept men who demand "DO MORE CREAMPIES!"
I happen to think Janine's tattoos are beautiful. If you are watching her having sex and all you can think about are her tattoos then I think maybe you should turn off the DVD player, step away from the computer and go outside. Maybe go for a bike ride or something. Breathe some fresh air.
It's beautiful out there.
Brian
P.S. I also love how some of the posters pass off their demands (disguised as mock concerns) onto the studios. "I hate so-and-so's new look or new tattoo but....ummm...her STUDIO must REALLY hate it. She can do what she wants but her studio..." I think the studios are doing quite well without your input, people.
Dont take it so seriously Brian. Lighten up a bit you'll be healthier for it. You feel kind of like I might feel if I bring up pregnancy or something. It's just everyone voicing their opinions. We can agree to disagree and move on to something else. I still stand by the fact that I dont like big billboard type tattoos on a woman. Small out of the way ones. That's fine. Not controlling, just my opinion.
What made you decide to use "Tammy Bruce" as your avatar? Hate her politics but find her sexy even though she's lesbian. She reminds one of porn actress Devon Shire from "Seymour Butts in Paradise".

Tattooing in porn is the anti-boob job. An aspiring starlet will get a boob job to get herself on box covers and a contract. But we see the exact opposite pattern when an established star starts accumulating prominent ink and then briefly thereafter is out of the business altogether.
This is the question that was raised about Monique's recent tattoos. Most responses seem to agree that Monique's actions fit the pattern. 5 to 1 odds that she's out of the business as soon as her contract is up, if not earlier.
Pointing this out doesn't make one anti-tattoo or a divorced from reality control freak. If someone wants out of porn and elects to go the tattoo route, more power to 'em. In this instance Tattoos are good thing, it's a tool that enables someone to get out of an otherwise bad situation. It does however, strike me as a drastic, perhaps even desperate measure and that's one of the regrettable things about the way the porn industry operates.
