Although numbers were still lower when compared to previous years, attendees on the floor probably didn't notice as they navigated the congested aisles. The early hours of the show featured the press unveiling of Roxxxy TrueCompanion, the "world's first sex robot". Inventor Douglas Hines took the stage to introduce the crowd to Roxxxy, who sat motionless in a loveseat on the main stage. The highly-anticipated presentation was underwhelming, to say the least, despite repeated disclaimers that this was only a prototype. None of Roxxxy's physical functions were demonstrated. Instead, Hines only showed off the audio responses to touch sensors located at strategic points on its body. As Hines moved his hand over the breast and vagina areas, Roxxxy's disembodied voice emitted from the stage's sound system with a variety of excalamations. Afterwards, the display was moved to the TrueCompanion booth, where attendees could get a close-up look. Nearly all of the major studio booths amassed long lines that lasted all day. Fan favorites like Belladonna, Jesse Jane, and Jenna Haze commanded some of the longest queues on the floor, as they do every year. But none of those lines were as long or slow-moving as Sasha Grey's, which reached a two-hour wait before her signing even began. Bad news for those joining the end of the line, since Sasha was scheduled to sign for only two hours on Saturday. Since I wanted to get my cover sleeve of The Girlfriend Experience autographed (didn't bring it with me to the signing at TAO on Thursday), I joined the line about 20 people from the front of the line. Once we began "moving", it took nearly an hour before I reached the front. On the positive side, this gave me an opportunity to mingle and chat with some great fans in line, who each had their own takes on how the show was going so far. As the evening fast approached and the Awards drew nearer, some performers (who were not scheduled to sign) could be seen walking the floor to check out the scene and catch up with friends. The most surprising appearance was made by Penny Flame, who retired last year and went on to appear in VH1's Sex Rehab. Wielding her trusty megaphone, Penny bounced from booth to booth, stopping for hugs from fans and performers alike. Easily one of the big highlights of my day. Once the show wound down at 5 PM, the action moved to the Palms Casino, site of the 2010 AVN Awards Show. This was a new venue for the event, which was held at Mandalay Bay for the last three years. New this year was a dedicated fan viewing area set up outside, where fans could watch the stars as they entered the main Red Carpet area inside the Key West Ballroom. This was my first year doing press coverage of the Red Carpet, and I hope it won't be my last. Since I arrived and checked in about a half hour late, the best spot I could nab was an elevated platform behind the start of the line. There seemed to be some confusion and disarray regarding the order in which the stars came out, which probably contributed to the last group of stars walking down the carpet 30 minutes behind schedule. There's nothing like being surrounded by a bunch of reporters who can't identify more than half of the performers there. Both Evil Angel and Jules Jordan Video were the evening's big winners, with 14 awards each. Best Video Feature was awarded to Adam & Eve Pictures' The 8th Day, while Best Gonzo Release went to Elegant Angel's Tori Black is Pretty Filthy. Speaking of whom, Tori Black won the show's biggest honor, Female Performer of the Year. General consensus was that this was one of the better AVN Awards Shows, in terms of deserving winners.
