But what about affirmative action? Black people have more rights getting jobs with affirmative action than white people right?
We have something like that in Holland also but as a colored person I would never ever use it to get a job. I want a job based on my quality, not based on the color of my skin!

Can you say Pulp Fiction?
I didn't see Samuel L. Jackson or Ving Rhames crying to Tarantino not to use the n-word.

"twisted logic" My ASS get your head out of your ass and look around.
Blacks participate in every part of the American society.
And are given preferential treatment in doing so.
You would wrong. It's both.
They are being treated equitably. Blacks are doing very well in this country and a lot better than any where else.

Wrong. The amount of job opportunities afforded to black people in the US is nowhere near large enough to account for the continued difference in employment numbers, advancement opportunities and average income between whites and blacks. Don't believe me? Here are some statistics:
US average household income by race
And remember, how "well-off" a group of people has or doesn't have it isn't based on job opportunities alone. Live would be so simple if that were the case. No, there are many other things that factor into what makes life good.
At midyear 2007 there were 4,618 black male sentenced prisoners per 100,000 black males in the United States, compared to 1,747 Hispanic male sentenced prisoners per 100,000 Hispanic males and 773 white male sentenced prisoners per 100,000 white males.
In other words, per capita there are almost six times as many black males in prison as there are white males. That means one of two things: either blacks are six times as bad as whites (ridiculous), or there is a difference in various social factors between blacks and whites (much more likely), including class status, opportunities for education, living conditions, and a variety of other factors that are not equivalent and equitable between blacks and whites in the US.
It's important to remember that the US is a country founded on blacks being slaves. Even after slavery was abolished, segregation was still the rule of law, in some states as recently as the late 1960's. That's only forty years ago. On one hand, you might say "Oh forty years is a long time." Well, yes, it is, if you're talking about cars. It's not very long at all when you're talking about an entire society. Things can only change so fast.
Is life better for blacks today than it was forty years ago? Yes. Is life as good for blacks today as it is for whites today? Not even close.
I've only given you brief, overview stats on mean income and prison populations - both of which display a large difference between blacks and whites. Had I gone into statistics on stability of families, locations of dwellings, average value of homes, unjustified arrests, and any number of other things that factor into how good life is for a race of people, you would continue to see the same trend. Life's just not as good for blacks as it is for whites in the US.
Saying that there are a few rich basketball players, a few managers who got their jobs because they're black, and a few successful rappers, doesn't prove the case for the average black family in the US, who isn't as well off as the average white family in the US.

Shagdog: please see my post directly above this one. You will see that your assertion of equitable treatment is incorrect.
Further, you once again bring up the issue of "better here than elsewhere". Assuming that this is true (which is actually a difficult thing to prove, especially if you look at a country like Canada), it still doesn't get to the root of the problem; blacks are not treated the same as whites in the US. Are blacks treated better in the US than blacks in Sudan? Of course. But does that make it okay that they aren't treated as well as whites in the US? No, it doesn't.
It's like a boyfriend saying "hey I treat you like shit, but I treat you a lot better than Joe treats his girlfriend." This is small consolation for the girlfriend who's being treated like shit. She doesn't want "better than Joe's girlfriend", she wants "good". And she's not getting it.

There's definitely a point where I ask myself "Is the existence of this thread at fault as well?"
I dunno, there are a few things to consider here:
1. They probably chose that name KNOWING that it would give them publicity - which they now have.
2. It's probably a shitty movie no matter what you call it. "Does a pile of shit by any other name smell less foul?"
3. We're (stateside) about to elect a black president - something that just about everyone else has already done. I think that while this racial prejudice DOES still exist in many parts of the world and particularly the US (some would surprise you I'm sure) MOST of humanity has not only moved past it, we consider the very thought of racial - or any other prejudice a sign of inferior upbringing or intellect.

What's the difference between Pulp Fiction and I like to Give Handjobs to Ni**ers? Well, many things, of course, but let's stick to just the topic at hand. In the first film, the word ni**er is not used as a divisive term, but a term of colloquial expression or even endearment between fellow blacks - and in the times when it isn't, it's recognized as being inappropriate (like when Tarantino's character uses it to refer to Jackson's character). In the second film, the word ni**er is used to separate the act of giving handjobs to blacks as somehow being different to giving handjobs to whites. One must assume then that it is either a completely different physical experience, thus explaining the difference (which it isn't - either way the girl is stroking a cock), or it is somehow a superior or inferior experience in some way, shape or form. If it were considered superior (by the person titling the movie, not by the girl giving the handjob), it seems unlikely that a typically derogatory term would be used to describe the experience - thus it is more reasonable to assume that the person titling the movie is assuming it to be, or conveying it to be, an inferior experience to giving a handjob to a white man.

Were riding down the Navajo Trail
When a band of Indians found em
Proceeded to surround em and
The Lone Ranger turned kinda pale
Tonto, our lives are in danger
We got to get away if we can
Tonto just looked at Lone Ranger
What you mean, we, Kimo sabe.
What do you mean "we"

killbill I strongly disagree. Blacks have as much and sometimes more opportunity than whites.
Blacks have to pursue these opportunities. The personal responsibility of success or failure is theirs.
As long as blacks use the crutch race baiters and pity merchants give them, that race is the reason for failure. Then we will never over come this divide.

But back to the original intent of this thread.
An entire music industry was formed based entirely on that word.
Black comedians based their entire careers on that word.
None of you complained about that.

are you serious?
i take it you're reducing... rap? hip hop?... and black comedians to one trick ponies centred around a single word.
the sole point of rap is nigger and the only reason black comedians made people laugh was the word nigger?
you need to actually listen to some of these things so then maybe you wouldn't make statements like that.

Shagdog, writing "Blacks have as much and sometimes more opportunity than whites" as if it's an absolute and easily proven statement isn't going to convince anyone. Back it up, explain yourself better, disprove my arguments... do something.
I'm pretty sure that my post only scratched the surface of the issue, yet I still provided many examples of how there is not equitable treatment for blacks and whites in the US.
If blacks do have more opportunity than whites, then I ask, more opportunity for what? More opportunity for jobs? What kind of jobs? More opportunity for housing? What kind of housing? More opportunity for education? What kind of education? More opportunity for a fair trial? More opportunity to not be discriminated against by police?
"Equitable treatment" involves many, many things other than whether a job is being offered.
You seem to think that using the terms "race baiter" and "pity merchant" in every post proves your point. You gotta do better than that man.
Go back and read my post, and tell me what about it you think is untrue.
mbuck, I'm not taking anything any more or less seriously than I ought to. When someone claims that I ascribe to a particular way of thinking to which I do not, I'll call them on it. I don't think there's anything strange in that. And it has nothing at all to do with me being a moderator.

"If blacks do have more opportunity than whites, then I ask, more opportunity for what?"
"More opportunity for jobs? What kind of jobs?"
The type of job THE PERSON (him or herself), used personal responsibility and prepared themselves for.
With high school drop out rates over 50% WHAT kind of job do you think THE PERSON (him or herself), used personal responsibility and prepared themselves for?
It is past time for the race baiters and pity merchants to stop telling blacks "you can't get get a job because your black" And tell you can't get job without education and being prepared for a job.
Everyone starts at the bottom and works their way up.
Job discrimination is and has been against the law for decades
"More opportunity for housing?"
There are plenty of blacks living in Beverly Hill CA, But you can't buy a house Beverly Hill CA without a job or an income.
"What kind of housing?"
Public housing If you sit in park smoking weed all day. What do you expect.
It is past time for the race baiters and pity merchants to stop telling blacks YOU CAN'T LIVE IN A BETTER HOUSE BECAUSE THEY CAN.
Hosing discrimination is and has been against the law for decades.
"More opportunity for education? What kind of education?"
Every person in this country THAT wants an education Gets an education. Even the statically worst schools in this country. Has honor roll students, members of the national honor society that go to college and on to successful careers.
The drop outs and thugs at the school had the same opportunity as them.
And whites are not the ones running up down the halls disrupting classes and creating a difficult learning process.
Want to improve schools? Tells whites, blacks and browns to sit down and shut up and learn this material.
"More opportunity for a fair trial?"
Give me a break, give me a break. There are Blacks on the juries. Do think black jury members are going to let me go because I'm White. lol
Fact #1 most crime involving blacks is black on black crime. And black jury members are not sympathetic to black criminals.
Fact #2 You show up in front any judge and you are a high school drop out and you don't have any work history YOU ARE GOING TO JAIL. Period regardless of color.
Fact #3 The highest percentage of people incarcerated, is high school drop outs regardless of race.

With high school drop out rates among blacks above 50%. You will continue to have high incarceration rates among blacks.
They are not there, because they're black, They are there because they wasted educational opportunities and their freedom.
More opportunity to not be discriminated against by police?
You kidding right.

Laughing at both of your ignorance. LAUGHING louder.
Race baiters and pity merchants always run from the truth. laughing at both of you.
What are you fools going to do when Obama is elected president?
All these ignorant arguments your making will be gone.
If a blackman can be elected president, blacks have no excuse for not getting a education and getting a job an joining America.
America can no longer afford to have this large amount of the population not contributing.

The people who CHOOSE to be offended by the use of the world "nigger" are the ones 'empowering' the word... take responsibility for your own emotions and reactions and CHOOSE to NOT allow this word (Or any other word) to have power over you....
It's like Cartman said about the word Fuck... "It's just a word... fuck fuck fuck fuckity fuckfuck... see... no one got hurt.... "

that's not really relevant to this discussion. you're the only person who's brought that up.
since that's the only thing you seem to think supports your 'argument' i'll address it.
rappers, i.e. gangsta rappers, maintain a criminal chic image to coincide with their music personas.
black comedians currently make jokes. often political in nature, in light of the election.
does that satisfy you?

WHAT laughing.
What are you saying. If poor blacks from the ghetto degrade and humiliate themselves and their entire race with the WORD for your entertainment. Then it's acceptable. Is that what your saying.
You think because you paid money to hear the WORD that makes it ok.
If black rapper can use the word.
If black comedians can use the word
Then black porn stars can use the word.

Now what are you saying? It's only racist if it's on the Box Cover?
Richard Pryor's second album released in 1974 was titled "That Nigger's Crazy"
So you just want to pick and choose where to play the race card.
Yes you did say those things. When you buy that stuff and defend those rappers and comedians for saying the WORD. You are in fact saying I approve of the use of the WORD.
Then you come on here and say the WORD is degrading to blacks.
Your just picking and choosing where to play the race card
The idea that blacks can use the word but whites can't only serves to divide us and keep us divided.

This topic has run it's course and I've had my say.
Do we have problems in the black community? Yes we do. EDUCATION is the only answer. With education comes REAL hope and REAL optimism for the future.
Whites can only do so much. White can provide money and resources, But blacks will have to do the work themselves.
It's time we place expectations on the black community to succeed. It's time we hold black leaders accountable for failure in meeting these expectations without shouts of racism.

are you dyslexic? do you have problems reading and understanding? you keep repeating the same things, even within the same post, so maybe you do.
of course you're done with the topic. you had nothing to contribute, and you contributed nothing in abundance. you invented responses to things i didn't even say to end up saying almost the exact same thing that i was saying.
do you even realise that half the things you're trying to convince me of i've been saying from the start? it must be embarrassing to be that blind.
again, one final time, i don't have a problem with the word nigger at all unless it's attached to racist sentiments, which i do have a problem with. feel free to make up something i didn't say and respond to that, but people with working brains will realise what my position is.

I've been reading this topic so I just thought I'd drop a few lines. First of all majority of black people (If you exclude the young & uneducated) don't like saying/hearing the 'n' word. I'm black and I personally don't use that word, where I'm from it's becoming a trend where both young whites and young blacks can say that word to each other. I personally don't mind anyone saying the word nigga(black/white) I find it pointless for me telling anyone not to use the 'n*ga' word, when I know they're not going to stop.
Shagdog you had a couple of valid point, but none of them had to do with the topic which I believe is, did Hush Hush go to far with their title. I would have to say yes, if they had least use some common sense, and use the "N*ga" word, it probably would have been a lesser deal. You also mentioned that Richard Pryor had an album titled "That nigger's crazy" I was not around during that time, so I can't comment, but however Nas was suppose to release an rap album titled "Nigger" a few months back, but he was forced to change the title.
To everyone saying word "Words have power Only if you LET them have power" the word 'Nigger' is not the word 'fuck', you could say 'fuck you' to me a million time I wouldn't flinch, but the N word is different because of history, and the only thing that's going to take the power of that word away is history itself. And when history does it's part, then it's going to be up to us to realize it's just a word.

"the N word is different because of history"
Ballsack... a word only ever has the power YOU let it have over you. If you don't LET it rule you, it can't.
"the only thing that's going to take the power of that word away is history itself"
I don't even know what that's supposed to mean....
The only thing that takes the 'power' away from a word is your personal decision to not allow it to have power over you.

look, i support the 'it's just a word' argument, but words have meanings. meanings change according to context.
you don't think the title of this movie uses nigger in a divisive way?
there's a separate issue between the word itself and it's current application. surely this is obvious... ?

in truth, the title doesn't bother me personally, but, as i said, the racially divisive sentiment is unwarranted. it's not the use of the word nigger, it's the way it's used.
