"you don't think the title of this movie uses nigger in a divisive way?"
Nope... no more so than "porn" is misogynistic...
This thread alone is probably way more attention than this movie deserves, and it's only received it because of the title... so right away, they (Those who chose the title) are vindicated.
And the louder one cries 'foul' the more vindicated they'll be.
If you don't like it, vote with your wallet. Don't buy the movie.
That's really your only recourse.

My point was that people like that know how to push people's buttons. As long as people continue to be so predictable, business people will continue to push buttons. I can almost promise you this flick has made far more money than it would have with a run of the mill name. Sure. There are a lot of people who won't buy it but most business is about the quick bucks. It isn't ethical but ask them if they care. Obviously not.
I kind of do agree with NewRomancer here (for once). There are fantastic porn flicks that don't get this kind of attention. Why not focus on the good stuff and ignore the stuff that pisses you off? This thread is exactly why this movie has this title.

i don't subscribe to this theory at all. no one is discussing the content, only the title. i doubt many people who stumbled across this adt thread thought 'gee, if so many people are upset about a title i MUST check this film out!' it's not like talking about donkey punch.

But again, the point is that it will/has (no doubt) increased sales. Some people are just that desperate and unethical that if they can sell ten more copies of something by giving it a controversial title, they'll do it.
You don't have to sell it to everybody in the country. You just have to make a profit. You can ask anyone. Even bad publicity can be good for business.

That was a figure of speech. Of course it isn't because of this exact thread. The mindset that is responsible for this thread is the reason we have movies with titles like this.
It would be more accurate to say it's likely because of the 10,000 (another figure of speech) other threads about controversy over race in porn.

IAFD.com lists nearly 300 titles using the word "Slave". There's a word that represented something reprehensible, but in time has been watered down to where almost everyone uses it. Wage slave, Britney Spears is a "Slave to you", Fashion slaves.
I'm not trying to say "its the same thing", I'm just wondering does it warrant discussion in this thread?

Firsts things first (and sorry for resurrecting a thread which is over 1 month old), Shagdog, will you shut up!
You go on at length about the need for education but you're posts are full of grammar errors.
Second, I'm in total agreement that the word is offensive but I find it rather odd that this one word has been placed as more offensive than anything else.
I was recently checking out Billy Watson's site nowayimgay.com which is based all around the concept of "straight" men calling the potential viewers of the site fagots. I'm not exactly gay and this didn't exactly offend me, but is it not the same thing? An offensive derogatory slur used in porn as a major selling point?
I'm not saying that the site is wrong for doing it but, just as in the case of Hush Hush, the word clearly does offend people.
How is it any different from calling women whores or sluts or as porn often does, reducing them to mere objects for the sexual pleasures of men? Sure, the argument can be maid that these instances are not attempting to be offensive to all women but in a way they are. Porn sends the message that women are tools and objects for men which IMO is the same as using racial slurs. None of it is acceptable and I'm not in support of any of it and I'm certainly not about to call one worse than the others.

But it's messhuga. What'd you expect?
I read that thread you linked, by the way and it's almost hilarious how he claims to have "exposed" me as being white when I've got a list as long as my arm of the posters and porn stars here (including the ones he supposedly only posts here because of) who have met me face-to-face. My identity is no secret. He's delusional, misinformed and just plain retarded. How can I be angry at him for exposing something that's not even true? And that's just the tip of his lunacy. Please, no more stupid contradictorymesshuga quotes from here or anywhere else. They could just as easily be a thread of their own if anyone actually cared what the imbecile had to say.
Meanwhile, search the internet for quotes about messhuga from me that exist anywhere but here. Exactly. You won't find any. And you never will. Glad to know I'm on HIS (and a lot of other people's) mind, though.

And let's face it. None of those rappers, or particular stars, were at the burial of the N-word in Detroit, last spring. Why? Because they make money off of white people by using the word. It is well known that the majority of hardcore rap buyers are white suburban kids. See the problem here? Some people are SELLOUTS! Porn has plenty sellouts.

He's hardly the only one though.
Years ago I stumbled on Blackgirlonline.com and the level of racism was amazing. You even had topics like: "Look how racist these crackers are"...Huh???
Through that site I found places like BET.com and BlackPlanet.com and they were in a similar vane (though much less crude) as BGOL. Since then, I've taken African American complaints about racism a lot less serious.
From my perspective (the Netherlands) I think blacks are using the wrong approach. Either you ban the word all together or you use it as an honorary title. You certainly can't use it amongst yourselves, while banning other people from using it. That is racist.
A good example of a slur turned into honorary title from my country is the word "geus". The french word "geuex" (beggars) was used by the Spanish occupiers to slander the Dutch rebel-leaders almost 500 years ago. However, they turned the meaning upside down and used it as an honorary title. The rebels became the Geuzen.
Of course a better approach would be to stop using the word all together. Nobody uses the Dutch equivalent for nigger (nikker) here. That makes life a lot less complicated.

You can't ban a word or encourage an entire country like the US to simply stop using it. I don't agree with everything said here but it's true that a Canadian or someone living in the Netherlands simply would not understand what a black person living in America goes through. They can comment, sure, but they really have no sense of what they're really talking about. Also, using a racial slur doesn't automatically make one a racist. And legitimate complaints about racism can hardly be dismissed simply based on a few comments one finds on a few internet sites where the lowest common denominator is known to dwell. If that's the case, I could very well say that every white person in America is racist based on postings I see various places on the internet.

That's not racist. It's recognizing that there's a difference between self-titling, and being called something by another.
I can call myself an idiot when I do something dumb and be fine with it, but if you call me an idiot I'll be angry.

Why don't you tell us that words are just words and have no power unless you allow them to for the millionth time or shut up?

First of all, the only negative stereotype about Canadians, that I know is, that you get drunk on beer and watch hockey non-stop. That is not the issue here. So, no I'm not doing that. Plus, I grew up in Detroit which also means I grew up in Canada. My point was you're on the outside, looking in. I'm assuming you're white. You're an outsider racially, as well as, nationally. That's my point. Unless I've misread your meaning, you're the one who's basically saying, words are words, get over it. You cannot relate, is my point. Dude.

Good point.
As a black man I find the black men who perpetuate this bullshit as intra-racists. They will never act like self-respecting African-Americans. They don't know how. Their IQ's are probably not very high. They are making money on their self-loathing. So as white people, ya'll should get that. Those black folks don't speak for the majority. These are not the brightest people. Sure, they've managed to become successful. Rush Limbaugh does it by spewing hatred. Hush-Hush and so many rappers do it by spewing self-hatred. It's all the same thing. So when other black people tell you it ain't cool, believe us, it ain't cool to use that word, ESPECIALLY when used by other black people.

I completely agree with this. At the end of the day, we're still just talking about words, right?
Isn't the more important issue, the intent behind the words? "Fuck Me", and "Fuck You" mean completely different things.
My black friends drop the 'N Word' on each other constantly, and it doesn't bother anyone, because the intent isn't vicious.
It doesn't seem to me that this title from Hush Hush was meant to hurt anyone... to the contrary, in fact, would be my guess.

While I disagree with you Marie, I can see where your argument is coming from here - the rest of the title of the film uses positive language ("I love...").
But how about a title like this one: [ invalid url ] of mine from earlier in the thread. I'll quote the relevant part of that post to the point I'm making right now:
"...the word ni**er is used to separate the act of giving handjobs to blacks as somehow being different to giving handjobs to whites. One must assume then that it is either a completely different physical experience, thus explaining the difference (which it isn't - either way the girl is stroking a cock), or it is somehow a superior or inferior experience in some way, shape or form. If it were considered superior (by the person titling the movie, not by the girl giving the handjob), it seems unlikely that a typically derogatory term would be used to describe the experience - thus it is more reasonable to assume that the person titling the movie is assuming it to be, or conveying it to be, an inferior experience to giving a handjob to a white man."
If Hush Hush were really not projecting what these women are doing to be somehow "lower" than doing the same thing with a non-black man, as you claim, it seems highly unlikely that they would go to the trouble of using a word with such offensive connotations that they couldn't even type it uncensored on their DVD covers. There are a million other non-offensive terms they could have easily used to convey that the film featured non-black women working with black men, if that's all they wanted to do. But they didn't. They used the word "ni**er". That says something. And what it says is offensive. And they knew it.

Holland is too relax to worry about this whole color thing like in the US eventhough we also have our own slavery history like slaves from Suriname.
But then again we got other big problems here in Holland like problems with moroccans but that's another story.

Well, the slave trade began with the Dutch. Yes, the originators of the African slave trade. And the Afrikaners in South Africa are Dutch. Sure, Holland itself is quite liberal but it has the one of the two ugliest racial histories on the planet.
I am convinced that SOME white folks are proving themselves to be ignorant white folks. With no sensitivity. No matter how we express distain for the word, SOME of ya'll are just determined to justify its use. So what if some of your black friends use the word. That still does not give them, you or anyone else the right to push it on anyone else. The fact that this thread continues it proof of that. One last time. Last April, the NAACP and progressive African-Americans carried out a mock funeral in Detroit, to KILL the word nigger. We buried it. It got lots of publicity. If your black friends don't read newspapers, magazines, are not aware or are simply ignorant that is irrelevant. They, like Hush-Hush entertainment and many rappers are WRONG. The little white girls who say the word because they tell them to, are fucking wrong! The VAST majority of black people DO NOT like it. Even on here, the majority of black people, on Adult DVD Talk, have expressed that. So let's make things equal. Everyone should just start writing honky, and peckawood, and ofey, and whitey and white muther fucker, redneck, all the derogatory word white words we can think of and let's justify the use. And watch things get ugly because they won't like it. A little common sense people, please.
I am out of this conversation. I like porn girls. Not interested in the racial politics. Sorry, i got caught up in it. I apologize . See what the word has done? That's the power and ugliness of it. We can't even talk pussy. I'm here to tell these hot-ass women that I'm a fan and that I'm not some weird dude. And if any of ya'll fine-ass women wanna come to New york to show me your love......PLEASE DO! lol.
How about that Sandy Summers? (Sandy LaRosa) I sure wish she'd do more porn. One video is not enough for a woman that fine and nasty. Ya'll agree?

"You're an outsider racially"
There is only ONE race of upright walking, tool using hominids on this planet....
"it ain't cool to use that word"
And that right there is what empowers the word... You allow it to offend you... to cause you some perceived slight... Demonizing the word only affords those ignorant bigots one more tool with which to denigrate you.
If you rise above it, if you chose to NOT be offended by a word, then they lose one avenue down which they might attack you.
"First of all, the only negative stereotype about Canadians, that I know is, that you get drunk on beer and watch hockey non-stop."
Those are negatives?!?!? I seem to recall that the Germans or Belgians consume more beer per capita than any other country....
"I'm assuming you're white."
And you're assuming an awful lot of other stuff as well.... if growing up in Detroit 'counts' as growing up in Canada, then growing up in Windsor counts as growing up in America.... Or is that yet another double-standard you'd like upheld in your honour?

You got me here KillBill, I can't disagree with you on this point. If you have to censor your speech, then you probably shouldn't be saying it. If they (Hush-Hush) weren't afraid of some kind of backlash, they wouldn't have censored it.
Here's my hang up though, I still don't see the difference between (within the context of a 'scene' or a 'fantasy') calling
a black actor a 'ni***r' or calling a girl 'whore' or 'slut', when in the context of the scene, it's meant to be demeaning, or
degrading.
I agree with you that in the context of 'I can't believe I did that!' advertising, it's obviously meant derogatory, but so is "Cum Guzzling Whore', right?

^Hi Marie. Thanks for your response.
While I certainly feel that "Cum Guzzling Whore" is degrading as well, and there are several threads here at ADT that have addressed that very topic, I do feel that there is a difference.
The difference is that, when you refer to a woman as a "whore", while being derogatory, you're still addressing particular behaviours, or perceived behaviours. If Joe refers to Jane as a "whore", no one will assume that Joe thinks that a nun, for example, is promiscuous. They may think that Joe thinks ill of all women, and they may be right, but it's not a term which paints all women in the same light.
Further, the term "whore" is addressing some sort of sexual context, so to hear it in a film about sex isn't completely out of place. Again, is it appropriate? Perhaps not. But is it completely out of place? Not as much as "ni**er".
The term "ni**er" doesn't distinguish between one black person and another. It is a term specifically designed to degrade all black people regardless of age, sex, behaviour, education, occupation, etc. It is also not a term that is generally associated with sex in any way (except in the US porn industry of the last 10-15 years). There's simply no reason at all for it to pop up in a porn title. It has nothing to do with describing a particular sex act, or behaviour, or context.
That's why I feel that these are two different discussions.

I think it depends on how one is using words like whore or slut or bitch.
A lot of people use words like those to describe women in general. I don't think most people only call a prostitute a whore or women who are somehow half canine a bitch or only those women who are extremely promiscuous a slut. No, these are terms which are derogatory to women in general and are words used only on women (I've never heard a man be called a slut unless the person saying it was being sarcastic, in the same whay I've heard white people call each other n****rs). Therefore, because these words are often used to describe women who might not even be acting in accordance with the meaning of the insults, I find it hard to accept that derogatory terms like these are any different from each other.
I also agree with something that was brought up earlier in that if Hush Hush felt there was reason enough to censor the word on their box then they shouldn't have used it in the first place.

Ah, but even you're acknowledging that the words "whore" and "slut" actually do have a meaning. A meaning that is in some way associated with sex. The word "ni**er" has no meaning other than "black people are bad".
I'm not saying in any way that "slut" and "whore" are ok. Not at all. But if you can't see that we're talking about two different types of "offensive" here, I just don't know what to say.

^ Glengarry Glen Ross is one of the best American plays of the modern era. And it may also be one of the best Hollywood movies I've ever seen.
I can't praise it enough. Truly.
Prior to his role in 30 Rock, which it seems like he was born to play, I often claimed that Alec Baldwin's five minutes in that movie were better than everything else he'd ever done, combined.
