Ok, I used an inexact term. I should have said middlingly moronic.
I admire your willingness to take on a new hail of bullets by holding that male pornstars exhibit less braindeadedness than their lady counterparts do.
Tell us how come?

reciprocity wroteFrom a sociological perspective, it makes a difference. Male porn stars, or even men period, are not stigmatized or castigated the same way their female counterparts are. When was the last time saw a boxcover that had the men being referred to as "whores," or "cunts," or "sluts," (which I find to be ironic considering that if anyone else calls the women that, their "protectors" throw a hissy-fit)? When was the last time you heard anti-porn activists complaining that men are degraded in porn? It doesn't happen. There is an obvious difference here. Also, while male stars may start out making less money than their female counterparts, there is alot more room for advancement in the industry than for women. While there are certain exceptions (which are rare), women only last in the business for as long as their youth or beauty lasts. Men, on the other hand, can continue performing into the decades, and there are many examples of that. Plus, male stars can more easily advance to positions to director/producer/executive than women can (and again, I know there are exceptions, which are again rare). Given the wider opportunity for advancement, the better chances of a longer career life, and the almost nonexistant stigmatization, working in porn would seem more beneficial for men than for women. But again, let me make it clear, I am not saying it is still not unintelligent for men, just not to the same degree (that was the question posed to me by saratoga120). I wouldn't exactly start encouraging guidance counselors to direct young men into that field as it still isn't the most intelligent choice for men either.
What's better, being a man and earning as much money in 10 years as a female in 2 years? Sometimes your work is not even credited but you have the opportunity to work with all girls for a decade or more.
I don't know, but it sounds not that bad to me, doing a job you like. (Spitting, choking and gagging man hasn't established, yet.)
What you have done, my friend, is participated in the sort of repression which deprives people of achieving true liberty in life. Namely suggesting that the opinions of others should dictate to us what we want to do with our lives. This -- not the porn variety -- is the sort of bondage that creates unhappiness in people.
Pornstars get it. They're fully aware of the choices they make and how they'll be perceived by people they don't know and whose opinions don't matter in the least to them. They shrug it off with a knowing smile. Knowing that the pleasures that the world can only confer upon them with money matter far more than pleasing automatons who subscribe to stultifying ideologies.
I salute them for their intelligent and courageous choice to rise above the repressive tyranny of the hypocritical and falsely righteous.

saratoga120, when you talk about "freedom," and "liberty," those are very noble concepts, and I wonder if you know the significance of the words you use. When and how did I do that? Expressing an opinion in an online forum is not tantamount to "repression." So am I being "repressed" by everyone who doesn't like me or who disagrees with my viewpoint? If I am, I certainly don't feel so. The statement makes no sense. When you accuse me of depriving people of true liberty, it's a real shame how you underestimate what true liberty is. Indeed, true liberty is the right to live freely as one desires, and that repression of liberty comes from those who seek to to have their ideologies forced upon others, such as certain thin-skinned individuals who overact whenever anyone expresses a contrary viewpoint. I have not advocated or proposed anything that says that people should not have liberty. Even if I were in a position to do so, I would not do it. However, I know I cannot say the same about everyone else who preaches about it.Good for them! I wish that priviledge and ability upon everyone. When I think of those intelligent and courageous individuals throughout history who really did fight against repressive tyranny and are worthy of salute, I think of people who fought for principles such as equality, justice, independence, and human dignity. And of all these people, none of them fought just so people can have the right to fuck on camera. I doubt if Susan B. Anthony, when she was arrested and fined for trying to exercise her right to vote (which was then denied to women), was going through all that just so that women more than a century later could claim the right to have sex for all the world to see. I guarantee that they had more noble objectives in mind to accomplish. Saluting pornstars for somehow rising above what someone mistakenly labels as "repressive tyranny" gives them alot more credit than what is due, while diminishing the true contributions of those who really possess(ed) intelligence and courage by working toward the rights of people to exercise true liberty in all facets of life, even if it's just the right to be a porn star.
If you believe our calling as human beings is for posterity to point to us as pioneers in bettering their lives, so be it. But how can do you sidestep the very positive benefit that pornography -- and all its talented practitioners -- have bestowed on your life?

Not that it matters to the discussion, but that does happen to be what I believe. Otherwise, what's the point of having been here at all?For example?
For example the fact that you choose to exercise your freedom watching pornography when it could be applied to some more "noble" pursuit.

I exercise my freedom to do alot of things. Porn is a form of entertainment that I choose to watch, and I see no need to defend my choice to watch it. Besides, weren't you just the one saying that people shouldn't care how they are perceived by people whose opinions don't matter in the least? I think that applies right here.
And does not "entertainment" rate high on the list of human endeavours that have posterity value?

And what pray tell, what might you consider on a list of "intelligent" jobs then, oh great one?
Since you attempt to liken "intelligence" and "repression" with the likes of those who fought for "the right to vote" only, then why do these ladies not deserve the respect that they, too, are fighting for the right to fuck on film?
Only the religious, moral-right cuckoos seem to have a problem with this, of which you're reminding me of more & more.

And power to them, as I salute them also, Saratoga! It makes me wanna give a big ol' hug to any "whore", "cunt" or "slut" (as realtip so generally refers to them) who doesn't give a rat's ass what other people think about them. While I'm none of those above, I feel the same way much of the time, regardless of what kind of misfit I become. I think that is single most important reason I enjoy porn as much I do.
The only thing I dislike about society - and views like realtip - is that they generalize on what a person does/did with another part of their life, and therefore decide it's OK to judge them upon it, further affecting what role in life they will play until they pass on. Or worse yet, with groups like XXXChurch (who brought those yoyo's in?), who decide it's ok to tell you "da lawd" is gonna judge you for doing porn (shucks, b/c it's "sinful"). Such as this whole idea that porn is "unintelligent" because these "whores" won't be able to find work in a respectable (or god forbid, "intelligent") career outside of/after porn.
I feel sorry for those people who think they have those kind of rights, they really ought to be gassed (or equivalent) for depriving people of those liberties given in order to make such decisions (if any of that was understandable). :)
Realtip: You may not have advocated or proposed any deprivation of liberty (I don't know, I can't stand to read your diatribe), but you've questioned it far more than necessary. If you don't agree with what these ladies do for a living, then go sit a corner & pull your crank to naked men instead, or worse yet ~ G.W. Bush and Condy Rice in the Oral Office. You're consistent insults to the women on these boards is really detestable. Also, if you don't think what this industry is heading for could be considered a "repressive tyranny", and what it goes through on a daily basis with all these religious-freak laws going into effect?...well, I got 2 words for ya: (use your imagination, they're not pleasant).

The original post:
"What girls in the porn industry are known to be intelligent? I like the dumb blonde cliche as much as the next porn fan, but sometimes a girl will come across as being particularly intelligent in a scene. This never fails to arouse me as I like smart girls in real life too."
I've found a couple of girls in the industry to be intelligent and sometimes it's easy to tell (at least for me) from watching them behind the scenes or talking to them in person.
If you ever have a chance to talk to Katja, she'll engage in some of the deepest conversations if she trusts you. She puts a lot of thought into what she says/write and takes the time to elaborate on her points if she feels you're a little lost. In Mr. Pete Unleashed she gives a great interview comparing American and European culture.
Even though I didn't talk to Gia Jordan that much, I found her to be sharp and witty. I described her to a couple of people as being very intelligent but there was something a little off and it was hilarious to hear some of the theories from people that knew her when they heard my comment.
I've found Selena Silver to be soft-spoken and shy and I could understand why people might charge that her husband does all of her writing. However I think she's just an introvert (imagine... porn star introverts... there's actually lots of them) because she also opens up when she trusts you.
I think Kami Andrews and Gen Padova cover up their intelligence with their goofiness. I'm more likely to have irreverent conversations with them but sometimes they'll give you the mental smackdown if you're not paying attention (which I'm frequently guilty of).
Hillary Scott comes off great in Skronk's interview. I always wondered in text interviews like Rog's how much editing is done with some of the responses to make the interview flow. I'm just glad we have audio format now and maybe one day we'll have video interviews available online.
One thing to note, esp. given Morbid's nominees, is that these are generally "older" girls (like, hah!, 24-25 or up).
I can have pretty great conversations with 24-year-olds (I am 47), and particularly when talking to women like Gia, Kami, Katja, Selena, feel as though they are peers. That's the first time I've really spoken with Hillary, and I was impressed with her poise and humor.
It's a lot tougher for me to really get very far conversing with a teenager. (Oh there are exceptions ) Certainly, American teenagers who have no particular focus beyond video games and smoking pot and shopping, which would sort of describe a portion of the emerging porn starlet generation.
But that's cool, too ...

Eric381 wroteI can tell you aren't reading anything, and thanks for admitting what was already obvious. That's a big piece of the puzzle right there. I suspected that you were a presumptuous whiner before, and you have just acknowledged this yourself. You are apparently one of those people who loves to endlessly yap against others without stopping enough to actually listen to anyone before you begin yapping again. This explains why I never know what in the world you're talking about when you always pitifully attempt to manipulate my posts to say only what you want them to say simply for the sake of argument. I have learned that, with people like you, it is a waste of time discussing anything. I know, as I have certainly tried. If you don't see the stupidity in the statement you just made, then I don't know what else to say. It amazes me how one can talk about liberty and rights, but in the same breath, advocate the idea of gassing anyone who disagrees with him. When I talk to you, I can see that ignorance is still alive and well in the world. There is no way you can convince me that you find consistent insults to be detestable, since that's all you seem to know how to do.Since I so "generally" do this, I am still waiting for you to point out one time when I have actually done it. You never did it the first few times I asked you, and I know you are not going to do it now. It's easier to go on a rampage about what you imagined someone said than to actually discuss something intelligently based on the merits of what has actually been said.
By the way, since you agree with saratoga120, perhaps you must agree with her on one of her statements that I reminded her of; that people ought not care at all about "how they'll be perceived by people they don't know and whose opinions don't matter in the least to them." Even if I don't agree with anything else she said, I agree with her on that. And Eric381, you definitely fall into that category that saratoga120 defines as people whose "opinions don't matter in the least." Your dislike of my views really doesn't matter to me. It may please you to know that the sentiment has long been mutual.
Annnnd, as of now you have 177 posts on ADT...I'm not about to sort through each of them in order to satisfy your fixation with control over other people's time.
It's easy to pick apart my emails...but what jobs are "intelligent", since porn is not one of them to you? You still have yet to answer THAT? Is a lawyer an intelligent career choice, a doctor...an aspiring politician? And the answer is...?
As for the intelligent, this post has rambled on long enough. It should be locked, IMHO. All of the ridiculous responses, which even I've been part of, have nothing to do with the original question...but mainly in part an attempt to offend the very reason this list exists - the stars themselves. I'd say from whom I met, and the conversations I had in Vegas (I'm personally shy myself many times...well, unless impaired, lol), though Kami, Vivian West, Crissy Cums are 3 names of mention. Via perception of email on this forum - I'd say Katja shines of intelligence, Gen Padova...and others. The remainder, while not necessarily conversations I'd base intelligence upon, but led to the "sweetheart" and "excellent personality" level. I was too busy taking pictures of the cosmetic/phyiscal look of things, not interviewing people or picking brains.
I'd agree with Don...let's get this back to point A. If you don't have an answer to ANYONE you think is intelligent...don't dare question or discuss who you think is NOT!! It's not your place to do so, or the purpose of this board, IMHO. Take your grief with the choices of these stars to XXXChurch or something, but don't insult their "intelligence", or lack thereof in some instances.
I get paid for what I love to do... why would I do it for free? I'm very happy with the choices I made in my life. There would have been no other way that I would have gotten out of my small town in Germany, move to America and make good money at a young age...

As long as one is happy, who is someone else to question what that person chooses as their vocation, much less equivocate "intelligence" in that field?
And as Ms. De'Nyle put it...the only question of intelligence is what you DO with that money, not how you made it (as long as it was legal...my $.02).

No question Gia Jordan has a quick wit, and an informed viewpoint, and is immensely culturally literate ( i.e. she's at one with contemporary trends & effluvia ). Absolute definition of the perfect woman.
See...this is the kind of mindset I have a hard time with. Why is it so unbelievable that an intelligent woman would actually enjoy sex, be an exhibitionist or just plain, flat out not have a problem with making money with sex?
A lot of people do a lot of things for money. A lot of (surprisingly intelligent) people do things they positively hate for surprisingly little money (raise your hand if you'd like to spend more than one hour working at a fast food joint).
I've known very few people in my life who haven't watched at least a few porn flicks (and enjoyed them). I have a lot of respect for women who work in a field in which a lot of people don't respect them simply because of what they do that provides people like myself with priceless entertainment. I'm not gonna sit here and lie and say I can get laid anytime. I can't. Even if I could, I would probably still indulge in porn but for some of us, porn substitutes for real sex. Sad? Maybe. True? Absolutely.
I don't think anyone should do anything they hate for money. Or at least, if they hate it but they choose to do it anyway, it should be for only as long as they need to in order to facilitate and/or finance a better and more suitable career. If a woman makes a good living in porn and enjoys what she does who am I (or anyone else) to judge? There are people who spend their entire lives working as trash collectors. Not to say that's a bad thing but I wonder how many of them actually enjoy that line of work?
I've known dumb people who were grossly overpaid and very intelligent people who were grossly underpaid. Most folks would probably love to make a living having sex. Trouble is, not everyone has the looks and the skill to do it for very long. There's a lot more to it than just fucking if someone wants to be successful at it. Good sex is probably 60% psychological once you get out of your teens and your hormones calm down.
The most successful women in porn almost have to be intelligent (at least in a common sense sort of way). Personally, if I had the looks and the talent, I'd rather work in porn than at least half of the other jobs I know of (I'm male but just saying). I don't know about you but I've never had a job that I enjoyed (And I mean really enjoyed. A lot of perpetually unhappy people claim to love their jobs). Most jobs have their ups and downs (many have far more downs than ups) and a whole lot of them don't pay anywhere near as good as the job of a successful porn starlet.
I know some porn fans have a low opinion of the women who make the porn that they seem to enjoy so much. I just don't understand why?
I agree with some of what you said. I would love to see IQ tests for both men and women in porn and I'm placing my money on the women coming out on top. I respect the women in porn 3 times as much as the men. I don't think the women are physically challenged in a scene like the men are. Some women fake orgasms in real life and they all do in porn and some are not even good at it ... they go on and on and on the same way for thirty minutes and they either made it in the first thirty seconds or had one continous orgasm for 30 minutes. And yet we love the women. The men can't fake an orgasm and yet we have little regard for them. So my conclusion is women are beautiful, have the brains, get all of our adulation and the men have to perform or else. Women have the better job in porn .... people at least love them for what they do.

I think that if people are going to speak about having "respect" for people, it is also necessary to have respect for contrary viewpoints. First of all, I find it difficult to have a whole lot of "respect" for someone who I don't even know from a can of paint. Secondly, there is a difference between respecting someone as a human being, which is something that everyone deserves, and respecting a person's choices, which is not something that everyone deserves.
I don't know any of these porn actresses (or actors) personally; I have never met any of them; I know absolutely nothing about their lives, including what it is that makes them do what they do for a living. Basically, the only thing I know about them is what I see of them on my screen. And the image that I see of them on my screen just happens to be the image of the type of woman that I was not taught to have respect for. It's actually the image of the kind of girl that I was taught was OK to date, but never to bring home. I am not saying this to offend anybody, but I would be lying if I said that weren't the case.
As for people deserving respect because they provide the population with entertainment, I am not comprehending the basis of that argument. Yes, I will be the first one to say that I watch and enjoy porn immensely. Otherwise, I wouldn't be here posting on this forum. But there is alot of stuff that entertains me that I don't exactly have a whole lot of respect for. For example, every once in a while, I used to come across one of those trash TV talk shows like Jerry Springer or Maury Povich, and even though something would tell me to continue changing the channel or risk becoming a zombie, I would leave it on and continue to watch. And yes, I would be entertained by the show. Sometimes, I would watch them with other people and we would all be entertained together. But because I found them entertaining, did that mean I thought the people on them were "intelligent?" Absolutely not, even though for all I knew, the people on those shows could have been Rhode Scholars. I found the people on those shows entertaining, even though I had absolutely no respect for what they were on there for.
Additionally, take alot of these so-called "reality shows" as another example. As ashamed as I am to admit it, I do occasionally watch some of them to be entertained. Would I ever want to go on any of those shows myself? No Way. Do I think the people who do go on those shows have lost their minds? Absolutely. Does this make me a hypocrite? I don't think so, but others may disagree.
I guess that's debatable but I don't know that anyone really "deserves" anything. I choose to respect everyone (including whatever choices they may make for themselves) because their choices do not affect my life in a negative way. They're adults and if they find that the choices they made aren't working out for them, they know how to correct that.
You were taught not to have respect for the type of women who aren't ashamed of their bodies or sex? I had a few people try to "teach" me the same thing. Unfortunately for them, it just turned out that they were the type of people I ended up not having much respect for.
OK...so? Because you wouldn't marry someone, that means you shouldn't respect their right to make choices? I know a lot of people I respect but wouldn't want to marry or live with.
Well, it has a little something to do with the fact that they do something that they don't have to do in order to keep me entertained. Yes....I'm sure money is a big part of it but on some level, I'm sure every one of them is aware of the fact that they're doing something a great many men (and probably women too) are very grateful for. I would say that probably every one of them is at least intelligent enough to make a passible living doing something else. They chose to do what they do either for temporary financial means or because they enjoy it (for whatever reason) and they also get the added benefit of making more than just a passible living.
Not at all. But why go out of your way to denigrate them just because they chose to go on the Springer show? I just don't get that. I very rarely, if ever watched Springer. I don't need to have an opinion of the people who go on his show, positive or negative. I don't know them and for all I know, they may be nothing like they are on the show in real life. Maybe he offered them irresistable pay to be on the show. I have no idea. I personally wouldn't want to go on his show and wouldn't dream of subjecting myself to that kind of treatment....but then, I still don't need to put these people down just because they were on Springer. So what?
But again...why is it such a big deal? I just think it's hypocritical to sit around and actually enjoy watching someone do something you despise or have issues with, for whatever reason(s) just so you can make negative comments about them later on.
Well, I do disagree but whatever. I always thought that people just shouldn't watch things they don't like, find offensive or don't want to be supportive of.
This would be a whole different story and discussion if you were just one of those folks who hates porn and finds it all completely revolting. I can at least understand where they're coming from and why they're saying what they're saying. I just don't get the need to put someone down just because you don't think they've made the best choices in their lives. I could sit here and critique the entire existance of any person I know and find glaring blunders and bad choices galore but I don't do that because it just doesn't affect me and I figure that everyone does what they feel is best for themselves. And if I don't think something that they've done is for the best, I might tell them that I don't think it's a wise move....but I make it short and sweet and if they still prefer to do it their own way...well, it is their life, after all.
It's no big secret what a certain portion of our society thinks of porn, people who buy it, watch it, facilitate it in any manner or participate in it. I'd be very surprised (astonished, actually) if anyone in the porn business wasn't aware of their opinion long before they went into said business. They don't need to be constantly reminded. They are generally not some clueless "victim" of some evil pornographer (even though this may be a popular theme in porn flicks, it's far from the truth). People have been having sex (yes, even one night stands) since people have been on this planet. Why the hell are we still beating ourselves and each other up over it? Everybody does it.
I understand that you're just expressing an opinion. I just don't think you're going to find much agreement in a forum filled with men who worship these women. You began this post by speaking of things that you were taught. One of the first things I was taught in life was that a man never wins an argument with (or against) a woman. You could be right as right gets but you'd still be wrong. In this case, I don't think you're right but I suppose it's subjective.
So I sit here, at my computer and somewhere in California, a bunch of women who made their money having sex are also going about their daily lives (doing whatever it is they do in their spare time). In the meantime, people all over the country are scrubbing toilets, working their fingers to the bone with mindlessly repetitive factory work, flipping burgers, handing out pink slips to people who are "no longer needed", selling shoes, selling cars, selling death in various forms. And when I really thing about it, I don't see a whole lot of difference between being screwed literally for money and being screwed figuratively for it....except for the ones who are being screwed literally at least might actually feel some form of pleasure from their work every now and then. We all pimp ourselves every day until we (well, most of us do...unless we get rich and retire early). It's just that some of us hide it behind a name tag or a suit and a tie. Is that really so much more "respectable"?

While there may be a correlation with philosophy majors/minors doing porn... mine wasn't intended. I had no plan or intention to get involved in the adult industry prior to school, during school or after. It never crossed my mind. I guess thats why I have never really considered myself a Porn Star either. If anything, just another girl who has sex on film obviously for money who happens to have randomly found herself getting involved in XXX projects as an excited exhibitionist... :)
1. When a guy sticks his cock down your throat, can you answer his questions or do you just gag? 2. When a guy is licking your pussy do you give him explicit directions on how to do it like he does when you have his cock down your throat? 3. When you have 3 dicks in your ass, do you tend to whimper, cry or moan with pleasure? 4. If you are in a girl-girl scene do you know what to do or do you look like you've never been there or done this before? 5. When a guy has been pumping your pussy for 45 minutes are you still saying "oh shit", "oh fuck", "oh my god" in the same cadence and pitch in minute 45 that you were in minute 1? 6. If you taste shit in ATM scenes do you say "umm my ass is sweet" or "oh my god my ass tastes like shit"? 7. When a guy cums in your mouth, do you swallow every last drop or let it drool off your chin while you lick your lips? 8. When a guy cums in your ass which do you prefer a) licking the cum after you shit it onto a plate or b) drinking it after you shit it in a glass? 9. If a guys dick goes soft on you in the middle of a scene do you a) give him another 10 minute blow job or b) another Viagra? 10. When the scene is over do you ask the guy for his phone number so you can get together for dinner and a beer later?
This is a takehome exam, you may check your notes, open your porn text book and you may grade your own IQ test. Please tell us how you did.
Yeah, I saw an interview with Roxy during a BTS for a webshoot she did, and she talked at length about various philosophical theories and religious doctrine. Penny Flame has also talked intelligently about philosophy. I know that some people think philosophy is just mental masturbation, but I think it teaches you critical thinking if nothing else. Also, I recently heard an interview with Lindsey Meadows who came off pretty smart despite her compulsive giggling. She reads Anais Inn, philosophy and other non-fiction. And she is also obsessed with issues surrounding death and dying. Creepy. And of course, as most people know Asia Carrera is another big brain porn chick.
I hope this doesn't offend you, but I have to correct this. It is kind of bugging me. Her name is actually Anais Nin and she is most famous for her diaries concerning her affair with Henry Miller.
It is kind of hard to prove yourself as intelligent in a porn movie. You have to prove it by what you do and say in other settings. Kylie Ireland, Nina Hartley, Kimi Lixx are a few that I can think of right now that really have proved that they are bright and independent.
I wouldn't dare refer to any of them as "dumb." All are intelligent in some particular way in my view. Edited by - shellshock91 on 12/14/2007 12:32:28 AM
I saw a behind the scenes interview with Lexi Love where she talks about going to school for two years as a chemical engineering major. Imagine being some science dork with her as your lab partner. My God. I was also fortunate enough to meet and talk a little with Dana DeArmond at a signing. She came across as very intelligent and is a sweetheart too!
It's been well publicized that Asia Carrera is (or was) a member of MENSA. Savanna Samson. She's smart enough to use her popularity and extend her appeal to the wine market. Apparently her wines get very high marks from "The Wine Spectator". Katja Kassin is one of the smartest pornstars around Katie Morgan supposedly has an IQ of around 150. Eve Lawrence has an IQ of around 140. You be the judge. I get the sense Sasha Grey is probably very smart. Nina Hartley...nuff' said
Hard to know how to respond to this thread without being condescending, insulting the women I don't mention, or sounding like I'm giving a backhanded compliment... I think it's very obvious from forum posts, interviews and blogs that certain performers are intelligent; that's true of the women mentioned in this thread. I'm not so sure that you can say that others are unintelligent because they don't communicate with fans off camera, or even because they appear to fit the "dumb blonde cliche". I know some intelligent women intentionally act dumb around men, thinking (possibly correctly) that many men prefer non-threatening/challenging women who appear less intelligent than they are. It wouldn't surprise me if a fair few performers behave very differently around their real friends than they do around their fans, or even their acquaintances within the porn business. We generally only get to see what they want us to see.
