Ok, I'm your typical "raincoater" -have been watching/collecting porn for over 20 years; I think I have a pretty good idea what I do NOT want to see:
-porn directors who think they are "auteurs." -funky camera angles. -funny and (backfiring) attempts to imitate an "independent movie." -fake "authenticity" (all the movies where guys are "picking" up girls on the street). -2 guys and a girl. -Dribblers -Bodybuilders who think they are porn stars. -Pornstars who think they are Hollywood actresses. -Pornstars who are basically just auditioning to be in the next Kid Rock video. -Pornstars who dodge cumshots. -Gangbangs -so-called "compilation" tapes.
And that's just the short list.....
At any rate, I watch mostly blowjob/cumshot/facial movies, so I am interested in seeing more of these made. Basically, make a tape in which pretty girls get their faces all messed up by HUGE cumshots, and I will buy it.
However, I would like to see some variation on the old "girl and guy in a warehouse" set: for example, guy pops all over a girl's face, girl then goes shopping (a variation on Rodney Moore's "public popshots" series).
I also buy "Chasing the Big One" and "There's something about Jake," so I wouldn't mind seeing more of this.

I would like to add what so far has not been suggested. I´d like you to present the girl (or better the woman) in a more stoical way like in the golden era of porn with for ex. Anette Haven. While many watchers dislike her for cum dodging (I do too) I still remember one of her strongest scenes when she jerked off two guys just standing in between them. The scene has to show that the woman only can bring the guys to ejaculation and that she knows it... Another rarely shown idea is to add a female to increase the "degradation". We should get the idea that this girl is with the guy against the other girl. She should not console the other girl but she should find it exciting what is happening to that girl. Examples for that are Teri Weigel in one of the bukkake videos or GGG type videos but the GGG ones are done usually without the talking in this special arrangement. A third wish would be a female to order another female to suck off a guy in a way Kym Wylde could do it. Finally you should hire girls who have already developed a "persona" to associate with and who are "into" what they are doing. Amber Michaels or Stevie come to mind. Many astute observations but some I disagree with STEADFASTLY!
I WANT to see guys who DO inject personailty and energy and intensity and passion into a scene and who can also unleash some FILTHY fucking talk without it seeming forced or stilted.
Aside from alot of skanky looking women, the BIGGEST problem in porn is LAME male performers. Mark davis gets wood, has a good size cock, the girls seem to dig him, ect, but he is fucking LAME and DULL and BORING, as are a few dozen other really popular male performers.
Rocco is probaly the second biggest earner in porn after Jenna J. Why? becuase he fucks like an out of control madman most of the time. Too bad he doesnt do so any more with American porn sluts who I prefer to euro whores.
Pay EXTRA for really HOT looking girls (feature dancer and bikini model types -- Krystal Steel, Chrissy M., Olivia, Nina Dolce, Farrah) who dont get sucked into the Vivid void and have them all glamour dolled up and slutted out, and get men who fuck like out of control, rough and kinky Dominant Demons and who talk all kinds of filth as they use and control the girl during the scenes, and let the cameras ROLL. Last I looked, Mike was operating at a very high rate IMHO. Be interesting to hear his take many years later. I know he wasn't too crazy about all the piracy, but not sure about anything else from a filming standpoint. Wasn't here when this thread originally started, but I've been dying to vent a little bit. Like Walter said many years ago, I still wish directors would shoot more fullbody shots, and I mean extended shots that last longer than 15 seconds too. I don't include Mike in this since he's appeared to have gotten the message. Mix-it-up a little more often. I really don't want to watch the same people fucking each other, all the damn time. Don't move the camera so much. Constant movement can ruin an otherwise great shot and scene. Don't micro-manage the scene...unless you absolutely have to. I mean if people have no chemistry, go ahead and do your thing. Not saying don't direct at all, but don't get in the way (as much) when things are really going well.
Wow. Someone resurrected by first ever post on ADT. I can't believe how much the business has changed since then. Zero Tolerance is still here but some of the others mentioned in this thread are not. I'm certainly not bragging, I'm extremely lucky that I have been in the same place for 9 years. As jaded as I joked that I was in that first post, I can honestly say that I enjoy this job more now than when I was fishing for suggestions 8 years ago. I even kinda choked up at the advice from the late, great Henri Pachard - shoot what makes you happy. Sage advice from a very brilliant man. Aside from this horrible trend of making a parody of everything aside from Schindlers List (and Will Ryder may be in pre-production on that), I mostly shoot what I enjoy- particularly girl/girl movies. I write my scripts and shoot the way I want to see things shot and I usually get to cast my favorite people. Pretty much everything in Aplus's last post has become my entire style of shooting, particularly since I started using DSLR cameras. So, even though tube sites and bit torrent sites will put us all out business sooner than later, I've been very fortunate to have such a good run with such a great company and I hope it continues as long as it can.

Hey Mike, It certainly goes to show that a good director knows how to survive. I couldn't agree with you more on the parody subject as well. If half the effort people have put into those parodies had gone to trying something new and fresh... Well, I think the possibilities would be endless. You mentioned that you're working with DSLR cameras now. I'm seriously considering upgrading to a DSLR myself. The one I'm looking at right now is the Canon T3i, but I'm still a little skeptical about making the jump from the more traditional camcorders. I just recently bought a Canon 1080p HD camcorder, and I'm not happy with it. I have seen some brilliant footage from the DSLRs though and feel like that's the route I need to go with as well. As someone who shoots for a living; Are there any advantages/disadvantages I should be aware of? What brand/model do you use? Any advice would be appreciated!
The Canon 5D is the camera that started the DSLR video revolution and it's still the gold standard. That being said, you need a boatload of expensive aftermarket gear to make it viable as a video camera. Canon has always been frustratingly stupid when it comes to their own innovations. By now they should have a full-function camcorder with timecode, XLR audio and a super 35mm sensor dominating the market but they've done nothing. Sony and Panasonic are way ahead of them as usual. I've invested too much money in the 5D to switch to something else.

Thanks Mike, I appreciate the info. I'm a little reluctant about going the DSLR route now. I do still feel that it has a lot to offer, but if I pay that much for a camera, I expect it to be able to do what I need it to do on it's own without needing a ton of other things. I agree that Sony and Panasonic have a lot more going on with their camcorders. I will need to do a lot more research before jumping on something.
