With six scenes the average length per scene is about 25 minutes. I prefer longer scenes, as I assume most people do, so this seems kind of on the short side. Knowing how much time can sometimes be allotted to the tease intro, which I also enjoy like most viewers, this usually leaves only about 17-20 minutes of the actual sex. Probably it has not seemed like that big a deal because Jules almost always manages to get in all the right shots of the action, but it can be a little disappointing to see such hyped scenes like Allie Haze's if it winds up only being 22 minutes. And I am not quite sure what the necessity for shorter scenes is. Since this is a 2-disc release, I don't think the format capacity is the issue. Most DVD releases of movies will carry 2.5 hour or 3 hour movies on 1 disc with a good bitrate for DVD standards I think. So the fact that this is a 2-disc release means it could theoretically be a 5-6 hour release, if they wanted, meaning the scenes could run about an hour long each. Of course most of us would probably not demand hour long scenes, but surely we can do better than 25 minutes. I wonder if Jules is cutting the scenes down to balance them, or is it a stylistic choice for tempo? I have noticed the bulk of the behind-the-scenes material isn't so much girl interviews or "backstage" stuff, but actual content which has been excised from the main feature, e.g. cowgirl, bj, doggie. Not complaining about finding more content in the BTS, cuz hey more content is always a bonus. I am just curious as to why a lot of it was cut out of the main scenes to begin with. Do people want shorter scenes or something I am out of touch with? For me the ideal scene length should be about 35 or 40 minutes. Maybe Jules just likes to cut the scenes down out of concern viewers grow bored too quickly? Not sure why that would be though since he is probably the least boring director. [Link] |

Classic movies like The Godfather and Return of the King wouldn't be so hailed if they were cut down to 90 minutes. So the runtime isn't everything but it is a considerable factor. But lets never mind our preferences for a scene's length. The question remains curious as to why Jules cuts out some parts, because the bulk of the behind-the-scenes material is top notch.
