It is getting to be time for me to find different porn reviewers because very few seem to enjoy the rough stuff. There are the obvious folks at Ranco Carne (Shortbus69, PornReviewGuy, Sleazegrinder, etc.,...wait, THESE are my compadres??!!?!?) who share a similar taste for the harder side of porn, but I'd also like to see who else is out there. It has gotten to the point that if Roger T. Pipe writes that a DVD is too rough and does nothing for him, I am immediately interested in that title!!! Yes, I have become THAT guy! Even some of the AdultDVDTalk's reviewers have wandered into that territory, as evidenced in Bono-one's review of the late Haley Paige's directorial debut, Virgin Territory "the rough stuff just got way too over the top for my tastes and I found no sexual turn on going on at all.". Bono-one is a great reviewer who offers perspective, insight and color on genres of DVD's that are very, VERY similar title to title. I give much props to the man and to all who take their time to watch and review these movies. However, rougher sex continues to grow on DVD and few are representing that it is something that people want to see. Someone is obviously making, watching, renting and buying the titles or they wouldn't be made. But there are sooooooo many reviewers saying what bono-one and roger write that it makes me wonder where are the people, like me, who enjoy watching and getting off to this stuff? Don't they have a voice? I need to see of there are other reviewers out their who enjoy rough-themed adult DVD's and have the courage to say so. So............any recommendations????? I like the rough stuff, but only get to see what's passed to me. Not much of it is what I consider rough either. I can recall some rough stuff in Mason's movies of course, and a few of the "Anal Expeditions", but nothing off hand recently. Some of the choking and slapping I see now is in a playful manner and has never reached "out of hand" area. Now I'm interested in some titles too World Class Adult Reviews
The only "rough" stuff I know about anymore are Jake Malone's more SM-scented lines, "Fuck Slaves" mainly. I think the niche, as it existed, is done. Even Rocco's movies are much softer these days. (Sorry, casting Jean ValJean has the "new Rocco" just doesn't cut it, it might as well be a girl/girl movie). Edited by - skronker on 2/19/2008 10:38:22 PM
Okay - let me rephrase - I'm not looking for movie recommendations. I'm looking for a reviewer who accepts that rough porn is here, people like it, seek it out, companies produce it, etc., In other words, it is a reality. I would like to read the reviews of someone who doesn't constantly oppose rough sex in modern porn or put is down by saying things like "then she starts gagging, which seems unnecessary and put me off" - I'd like to read the reviews of someone who appreciates the place rough sex has in today's adult reality AND WHO ENJOYS IT and isn't afraid to say so.
Reviewers are people too. Everyone has their likes and dislikes. The reviewer's job, as I see it, is to tell about the movie in order that the reader can be informed and help decide on rent or buy or skip the movie. It is not necessary to like the movie or the theme or the genre. But I understand your point. For example, I like BBW and plump girls. But some reviewers will say (essentially): "This dvd is total crap, just a bunch of fat pigs, I couldn't survive 5 minutes of it." And that is the total review. This is a useless review, because there is zero information about the dvd. Only information about the personality of the reviewer. I have read other reviewers who are equally anti-BBW, but they will describe every scene and evaluate the action, though they will also say things like "This girl was not attractive." It is OK with me if he says that, as long as he does his reviewer's task properly. I can mentally "adjust" the reviewer's words to compensate for their likes/dislikes if they make their likes/dislikes known. That is the bottom line.

I concur with this. Why would I read a book review of a suspense novel written by someone who hates suspense novels?
I believe that the interest in the rough stuff is gaining ground/market share. In support of this, just before posting this comment, the following are titles of TOPICS on the FRONT/First Page in The Porn Pool: - Do You Know of Any Extremely Rough Sex Scenes! - QUAGGING - why hated? - Help me find good rough sex movies, please! - pornstars and roughest scenes? - Deep Anal Dildo Penetration - Bruised porn girls - bondage DVD's - When will Belladonna do scat porn? - Deepthroating - has it gone too far? - Watching a turn on, but it's not something you'd Do - cum spit fight? Each of these Topics have the following in common - it is about pushing boundries, harder and further than traditional porn. I feel like I've seen a thousand scenes that start out with kissing, undressing, oral sex, vaginal sex in a few position, perhaps anal sex, maybe even ATM, and the cumshot. This staple of porn is played out and gets boring. Those of us who have been fans of porn for many years do not get off with the simple change of women in the same scene we've seen over and over. Hence, the need to explore pushing that which is different...or more extreme... Given the titles of the posted topics in this very forum, there is an obvious demand for these scenes. Edited by - bigfoot on 2/22/2008 12:19:31 PM
^I just wanted to point out out that in some of those threads, like the "When will Belladonna do scat?" thread, most of the posts were quite negative to the topic. I have never opened some of the other threads, so I don't know what the tone of those threads are like. And if you've posted in some of those threads yourself this morning, that would bump those threads up to the front page. I do sympathize with you about when some people get on a high horse about choking, when I have seen some of the scenes that they have complained about and the choking was only a small part of the scene, and the girl reacted very favorably to it. Yeah, there are scenes where the actions go too far for me, but more often when a scene turns me off it's because the males on the set took a very sarcastic and condescending tone with the girl, and not because of anything they did. Do you really think that it is a desire from the consumer or marketing ploy coming from the producers? I think it is more marketing than the hard edge structure being accepted by the main branch of the adult seeking consumers. I understand what you are saying that there is more intensity in a lot of the present mark up of the BDSM market today, but as you suggest I think that is because they are seeking something more than a clip long hand smack session on some girl's backside during sex while wearing over the knee boots and opera gloves which was considered "extreme" back in the days when California Star, Devonshire and HOM ruled that roost. And for those consumers who are really edge consumers I think they are more in the European and Japanese market where the law is far more tolerant to such products than here in the USA as we are still waiting on with Extreme. True there are a few producers who still push that edge but they are few and far between as most consumers do not want say cbt antics in their films but mostly sex with a little edge, or the overly stereotypical fantasy like Mike Ramone's Strap on Bitch for the submissive bi-males appreciative.
If you're not looking for recommendation, then why are you looking for a reviewer?Bono-one and Rog both accept/know all these things. They just don't like that kind of porn. Why? Isn't it enough that you like it?If you're not looking for recommendations, isn't that fact that you're not afraid to say so enough? You have a voice. Why not use it? Write some reviews.
I figured someone would write this so I come equipped with an answer. Ready? Here it is (it's so simple, you're gonna kick yourself) - I ALREADY KNOW WHAT I THINK! I want to know what other people think of DVD titles I've not yet seen. I have written several reviews, but find that I have neither the time nor the desire to write reviews en masse or to do justice by them by writing complete reviews instead of the paragragh postings I see on many sites (see? there was a run-on sentence. I'm no good at this!). Comments on a forum is one thing but full blown reviews are something totally different. As I said, I like and respect the job that the best in the business do - Roger T Pipe, bono-one, atroknight, Don Houston, etc., Their reviews are thorough, thought out, layered and extremely well done. What I'd like to see is "that" done by somebody who shares my ideals regarding the rougher side of the XXX biz.
I tend to like rought stuff and usually give high marks to it.

I find so-called American porno rough stuff (nose pinching, choking, slapping, gagging, head stomp) a joke and more comical than anything. Check out the German vids for authentic rough (whipping, anal fisting,spreaders/clamps etc.).
Try www.dvids.com for dvds. Try www.vixeo.com for subscription downloads. Also visit the "international shopping" forum to learn about some euro dvd sources. Search on Kit Kat Club for some possible leads. For example this thread may be of interest. When you find online catalogs, you will discover some which ship worldwide, including USA.
You can order from http://www.erodvd.nl You will find plenty rough there (bondage, SM, Max Hardcore euro edition (which are way rougher than US editions)... I did not use to think Max Hardcore did bondage but in Max Factor 18 girls are tied up in two differenty scenes. You will find some DVD editions of sex and submissions there if you prefer DVD format over downloading from website.
Unfortunately, very few reviewers in the English speaking communities do fetish videos as it is so specific a niche area as you know most of the United States consumers usually do not want non-sex products but just the simple sex act -- no offense to Darklady who ocasionally does some "speciality" videos notes for avn.com but her reviews are not of the depth and analysis that you suggest. There are some reviewers who do some fetish films but usually they are fans of a particular publisher say like Gwenmedia or SLP, whereby their impartiality can be called into question. I read some of the German porn reviews on their producers including Inflagranti, MMV and Master Costello but again unless you read German it is no good to mention such reviewers and such film export from most European countries of hard BDSM film is usually impossible legally now as even in Sweden has censorship laws that specifically state it is a crime to "show or distribute films which include depictions of sexual violence or coercion, or explicit or protracted scenes of severe violence, unless this is justified in view of the particular circumstances" by Sweden's state film censorship agency (Statens Biografbyr).
I would be careful ordering from erodvd.nl as a LOT of their stuff is copyright violation and outright stolen content especially from USA producers including Kink.com.
Agreed but that is because most of the performers are generally not BDSM players but actresses performing a role rather than having mistresses or masters who are incompetent to do a powerful session though there are some tops who are incompetent either in technique or on-screen presence, or both. As most film subs are not real BDSM bottoms they do not want to endure hard bruising sessions where actual whelps and cuts are produced on the target in the session like this http://theater.aebn.net/dispatcher/movieDetail?movieId=35834&theaterId=13992 as it interferes with the performer being able to go do their main porn work -- unless they want to sit out for several weeks to heal up.
erodvd.nl sell DVDs with content from some sites including kink.com yes. But that is only a tiny percentage, they have a pretty wide selection. Do you know for a fact that erodvd.nl do not pay royalties to kink.com? And how would you know that?
because the kink studio has not released any productions for DVD yet and are NOT in any talks for cross distribution with ANYONE. So any of that content comes up anywhere other than kink.com and the ONE (1) co-producer who is in Japan, any such releases are stolen. PERIOD. And in the case the lawyers have been sic onto them for reselling such pirated material.
because I do. And no my name is not Peter A either.
To the OP - I honestly don't know of one in particular but it should be easy enough to go through the ADT reviews of rough porn and look for a reviewer who actually likes it. But you're right. The majority of reviews I've read for rough porn are full of "I hate rough sex. I hate rough porn. This guy's a misogynist pig for making this stuff". OK. We get it! You don't like rough porn. So why are you watching it? And more importantly, of what value is a negative review (Negative based solely on the fact that it's rough) of a porn flick that's advertised as rough porn to people who are looking for rough porn? The answer? Zero. None. Those guys are just using their positions as reviewers to inflict their personal negative opinions on people who like rough porn. They could be reviewing porn that they like. Or, they could just say "If you like rough porn, you'll like this movie".
For USA consumers, it is an unfortunate reality that many hard-to-find European and uncensored American titles are available from "questionable" sources only. That is simply the nature of the beast. Can you recommend other sources?
You will not find any reviewers of the market for the very basic reason that most of the reviewers ARE promoting a product either directly as a service (either attached or direct) for the film's producer and/or distributor or are promoting the competition which is where they get their films for review free of charge. Again I find none who are completely unbiased for the very fact that they are fans of the product and/or producer are not going to give an unbiased review of the film. There are a few who try but they are far and few between.
I disagree as again they are being provided with films to promote either directly (go buy this film! It is fantastic!) or indirectly by steering those who would spend their money on something else from say a competitor or another genre producer (Don't waste your money if you want real sex go see Hustler' Taboo for a good sex with BDSM film namely I say of hat series BLAH! though maybe now with Anastasia Pierce running the line maybe it wiull get better. See even I have opinions that would interfere with an either completely or mostly objective review)
While that would be nice for a truly objective review, remember most reviewers are giving THIER opinion as the guiding line for what they believe many will appreciate beyond "in scene one, person A did this. Then in scene two, the next person did that" for as you as the reader will either appreciate their opinion or deny it. Though there are a few reviewers who do try to do that such as Astroknight and have a decent following, which is one of the reasons why he does not do stuff he does not think he can keep a mostly objective opinion of. -- which proves the very reason that most do not make reviews of non-sex BDSM films.
That is not true unless again you are talking about content that is specifically by its very nature against the laws of the source country i.e, scat and vampire sex and hard fight adult film productions (showing unacceptable bodily fluids) here in the USA or simulated rapes and kidnapping as stated by most European countries or in that very grey area that some producers rather not deal with. In those instances where say you are looking for BDSM films that are legal to produce I say deal with the origjnal studio as most of the time they are the best source to get the product from. When I am looking for SM Studio products I simply deal with them rather a reseller. http://www.smstudioberlin.de same with Inflagranti, MMV etc. as most producers choose to resell both on the wholesale and individual level again unless there are restrictive laws against such import to that customers' locale. Again as I can read German well I have no problem in directly dealing with them while one who only reads and writes in English would more than likley be avoided for obvious reasons -- problems result no one wants to deal with a language problem.
Again unless you are really looking for the illegal or grey products -- like unpixelated Japanese porn which is technically illegal, though is almost sold openly despite being sold under the table -- it is best to deal with the specific producer directly for the most part as they will want to keep reliable repeat customers than a one-time customer, even if that one-time costomer is buying in bulk. Again it is best to deal with the producer specifically unless again you have essential problems with the producer namely do not speak (read, write) the same language.
Well, I'm confused. This all seems like too much work - I mean really, I guess what I'm looking for is possibly out there, but I don;t really want to spend $39US + shipping for a DVD of which I do not know the quality, content, production value, actors/actresses, or whether it will work in my DVD player because I'm from Region 1 and the DVD is from Region 3. In addition, I just heard (in another discussion with a friend who works for the federal government) that if I order anything from these companies, my name might be added to a list of possible sex criminals. OK - I'm just looking for a little fisting here or sex + bondage all wrapped up in one. I'm not looking to be investigated. I suppose its best to keep, ya know, quiet and either suppress my curiosity or attempt to quell it with good ole American sotfcore, uh, I mean, hardcore pornography. That's it - bigfoot out!
I am sorry we could give you more of a direct answer as those who produce the content you are looking for in the USA like kink do not make DVDs. though have what you are looking for on their internet only service which again I think you will mostly appreciate such as their specific "sex and submission" website. And unfortunately the foreign producers are not going to do reviews of their products in English as most of their customers are not English speaking.
doubtful unless you are ordering product that violates USA law which currently is limited almost exclusively to child porn or again is scat and piss based. Other than that mostly it is a free area.
Don't give up. Just be prepared to hunt a little more in the foreign markets and you will find what you are looking for. Edited by - customer20983 on 2/23/2008 11:10:43 PM
There are no "positions as porn reviewers" -- it pays nothing, and anyone is welcome to do it. It takes quite a while to write even a simple review, and most people won't do reviews, because it changes the way you watch a movie (with a pen and paper in your hand). If you review a variety of dvd's, some will rate 4 or 5 out of five, and some will rate 1 out of 5 -- if you're honest. I always tried to take only screeners that I expected to enjoy. Having heard positive things about certain movies, I tried to be open minded enough to take a few as screeners. Once I do that, I'm going to review them, even if I don't like them, and if I don't like them, I'm going to say so. There's no intention to inflict negative opinions, and no intention to inflict positive opinions. The opinion is just expressed for what it is. That's what a review is.
Nope simple economics. * [Producers want promotion which will hopefully lead to bigger sales] No producers actively seek out wide scale bashing of their products when they know it does not meet the desire of the bulk of reviewers. Therefore they will either make formulae and hope it gets at least a pass or will make the specific stuff and not seek out the formal reviewers and hope that word of mouth will carry in a reliable repeat sales market like most of the BDSM heavies and specific edge producers do. * [Professional reviewers do NOT buy their own DVDs] Most of the reviewers who are here on this site and AVN.com and xfanz.com and most others that we can name do NOT have an interest to honestly review BDSM products as that is not their intended market nor a large share of their hosters' businesses from whom they get their source DVDs for the reviews. Most of the reviewers on avn specifically will tell you that they get the DVDs for review from the company to be reviewed and have NEVER bought any of the DVDs they review. They would not continue to get more freebies for that hopefully good review if they were to say "this company's stuff sucks! Why do they keep making this crap?" True some reviewers have enough integrity to say "I can't do a honest review of this as I have no interest in this subject matter". But when you get ten to fifteen reviews in a row from a reviewing company or specific known reviewer that all say "living blank faced rubber dolls made out of beautiful women will never sell to the sex film guys. Go away.", most producers take the hint and stop seeking out approval of these people. Then again some like Skye Blue and her Gothic Media try to shoe horn and change up hoping for the best and honestly wonder why their sales drop off. [specific small-scale reviewers not impartial maybe even part of company seeking continuation of producer] While you can find some of the underground reviewers on some of the more specific sites like social kink and eros-la, their reviewers rarely look at products that are either starring no names or material that the particular reviewer is personally interested in, thus drawing into question their ability to do an impartial review on the film in question.
Uh no. If you are judging the film based on lighting, clarity of sound, acting performance, ability of performer to create reality presented, maintenance of plotline throughout the entire story then that is an honest review. But by what you have said "I always tried to take only screeners that I expected to enjoy." then what you say is not a review but an opinion that may meet everything else of a good film as noted above, but because it does not meet your particular appreciation say you are seeking lots of anal and only get one scene you will still grade the film badly. It takes quite a while to write even a simple review, and most people won't do reviews, because it changes the way you watch a movie (with a pen and paper in your hand). Nope it takes no more time to review a film than it does to watch it unless you are going to do a scene by scene analysis which again other than very few reviewers such as Astroknight does most reviewers sum up their opinion in two short paragraphs -- at most! -- as shown on avn. And if you as a reviewers have a large following as do the reviewers of avn.com, you can make or break a producer who was hoping to cash in on said promotion by said agency. That is one of the reasons that I find most of the fetish film producers specifically avoid those generic "adult" film reviewers and promote at specific fetish events directly to the attendees in order to meet more of like minded individuals who are more open to actually spending their money on such products than the general sex film consumer.
I skimmed the thread and I not sure what you want to have recommendations of myself? But there are rough dvds and then there are real rough dvds. The real rough dvds are not in this country! They maybe in Brazil, Italy, Burma and etc... For the U.S.; I think you need to just go by titles and series and just preview on of the DVDs to see if it is something you like! Rocco from 1993-1999? did his best work! He was plenty rough!
That's okay most don't get BDSM either. That is why we such a dichomy here in the USA. Either you have the latest hamburger pounder that Keith Gordon has bought from some European producer to sell for Skye Blue that most of the straight sex people can't wrap their minds around because there is absolutely no sex in it. Or you get that oh so weak ZFX dildo kidnap penetration stuff. The original poster was hoping that a producer who is showing off some good stuff other than Peter A existed here in the USA and right now there are none who do all three of the original conditions all at the same time have obvious INTENSE BDSM session beyond just wearing cuffs (I am guessing showing the tie down and kidnapping etc) have the actual sex going on while the other person is tied (held) down (I am guessing weak dildo act like Savage's ZFX would not apply) and of good film quality and acting ability (so forget Extreme) on DVD and possibly some full fisting involved as well. Right now no USA producer is doing that for all the legal hassle and fears that they will be the next Extreme case, and the fact that most of the general sex film watchers are not turned on by showing the women in power relationships hence no reviewers saying what is good for the BDSM focused.
I'm tempted to use the word 'STUPID' here. But I'm going to ask. Why in the world would anyone WANT to spend ANY time watching movies they hate? I would not. Therefore, if I dislike certain movies, I will not give them positive reviews in order keep receiving free movies that I hate and will do anything to avoid watching. Now... STUPID!!
I've never decided to see or not see a film based on lightning and sound: witness the popularity of The Blair Witch Project. I also think that most men on this board have not seen Brokeback Mountain, despite its reputation for quality acting and a solid plotline. Reviews involve opinions. That's why the reviewers don't all agree. Reviews involve whether you think other people would enjoy a movie, and whether you would recommend the movie.
Oh, great. We got some people on this thread that want to string you up if you review a movie that you don't like, and some that condemn you if you avoid reviewing movies that don't expect to like.
It may because I am a hunt-and peck typist, and write my reviews on the computer after watching the movies while taking notes on individual scenes. But it takes me longer to watch and review a movie than to watch it. If I am reviewing, it takes me longer just to watch, because I may have to rewind for some details, and because I can't skip the girl-girl scene that I have no interest in, I watch extras that I wouldn't necessarily watch, and I make sure that the disc works in linking to some of the 'dumb' extras like website link and other ads. Can you give me a link to a review that took no time to write? Thanks. Edited by - lindi on 2/24/2008 1:04:45 PM
You've misunderstood me. I DO get BDSM up to a point (the point before a sub suffers anything more than the kind of surface bruising one would get from from a vigorously spanked/paddled/cropped ass or safely/sanely clamped privates parts). I like some of the stuff on Kink.com. What I DO get is why aficionados would like to be steered toward quality BDSM product. What I DON'T get is why people would feel the need for BDSM-friendly reviewers when they're not interested in getting recommendations. What I also DON'T get is why some people in this thread seem to feel persecuted because they can't find reviewers who like this stuff and want to write about it. What I DO believe is that the paucity of BDSM reviews results from a lack of sufficient economic demand, or a failure of initiative and/or nerve on the part of BDSM aficionados in not writing such reviews themselves, or both. What I DON'T believe is that reviewers who dislike this stuff and express their dislike (1) are "biased" (bias is different from opinion); (2) should suppress their viewpoints for the good of the BDSM community; (3) are the unwitting (or witting) tools of mainstream porn producers; or (4) otherwise generally lack integrity. . [sp] Edited by - bob on 2/24/2008 1:56:41 PM
I understand what you are saying but you are NOT being paid to watch and review correct? You are just making commentary on stuff you appreciate right that you are paying your money on. Again as pointed out there is a difference between a) the person who is paid to look at a movie and give a review, such as over at avn and xfanz who are being paid to write their commentary versus b) the end consumer who buys a film and then just makes a comment on their purchase. But sometimes the people paid to do the formal review will act as an end consumers and let too much of their personal preference enter into their review. And again as far as the BDSM specific reviews goes, there are far too few people who are part of that market who are sitting down writing because 1) there are not that many producers here in the USA who are making that content level specifically and reliably and not enough market share to make it worthwhile to formally develop a community review for that niche consumer market though a few try again such as society kink and eros-la but even they only do review on film product occasionally because of the very nature of the niche market.
As I understood the statement, he DID want recommendations under the conditions that he stated . And we all agreed, there is presently no producer who exists in the USA other than really kink.com who meets most of his stated conditions but does not produce DVDs of their films which he was looking for. It was MY condition that the reason he does not find too many reviewer on BDSM as they are either too few as most quote unquote porn reviewers are reflective of the bulk of the porn consumer who are specifically overt sex focused and not on the fetish niche areas.
You are entitled to your opinion but I find a lot of evidence both personal and indirect that does not support that, as > reviewers who dislike this stuff and express their dislike >(1) are "biased" (bias is different from opinion); (1) that IS the VERY definition of being biased. A reviewer who dislikes the subject matter BECAUSE OF THE SUBJECT MATTER ITSELF can NOT give an unbiased review of the film because they dislike the subject matter. This is true of many reviews I can point to on many BDSM films such as Bizarre Videos which would start off or conclude with the inevitable statements of "I can't understand why anyone would be interested in this as there is no sex in it" The very subject matter is the reason why they are not able to appreciate or grade the film, NOT because the acting of the performers is overly campy or the lighting makes it look like the film was recorded in someone's basement or music is blaring over the speaking part but because the reviewer does not accept the premise of BDSM without sex. And that IS the reason why most do not write on the subject. (2) no, not the benefit of the BDSM community but the benefit of consumer who is seeking BDSM content and who wants a honest review of the content WITHOUT the predetermination that unless there is sex in it the film is waste of time for the adult film consumer (3) again unless you are talking about a private reviewer who by their very nature is a fan of the content and spendign their own money to buy such product, every formal reviewer is either directly sponsoring a producer's product (go buy it as it is great!) or sponsoring a competitor (don't waste your money here go look at such and such for a better product in this genre) from whoever is giving the reviewer the films to review. (4) again as said before not every reviewer who is writing a review is "generally lack integrity" IF they state beforehand they are either opposed to a subject and have no interest in a subject. There is no reason in reading a review that starts off "I can't understand why anyone would be interested in this mess as there is no sex." for while you understand why this person will bash it, that defeats the reason to read the review as you know beforehand that such a person has an unbiased repulsion and disinterest in the subject which is going clearly influence their writing. That is the same as reading a review of a fan who is enthralled by the subject matter and can not give an objective review of that film/performer's failing in that film whereby they think it is the greatest thing despite glaring problems such as the performer constantly looking into the camera and checking their teeth from the reflection and to ensure their face in the scene while their character is supposed to be pounded into mindlessness by their dominator. (No I kid you not)
I realize that but they still are (more or less) trusted to be fair. It just sucks when you're looking for reviews for a specific kind of flick and you have to try and sift through all the negative reviews written by people who don't even like that kind of porn and find one or two reviews written by someone who actually does. Or, at least, someone who is willing to review it based upon it's merits. They don't have to say "Hey. I loved this. It was just my cup of tea". They could just as easily say "This really wasn't my thing but the sound and lighting was good. The performers seemed to be into what they were doing and put on a good show. If you like really rough, hardcore sex, this might be your thing".
I don't think any of that is in dispute. I'm just saying if I'm looking for helpful reviews of, say, bukkake flicks, a review that basically states "I hated this. Bukkake is sick garbage and anyone who watches it is a sicko" is not really helpful and pretty near worthless no matter how much time or effort they spent writing it. People who aren't looking for bukkake probably aren't reading reviews of bukkake flicks just for entertainment. A review doesn't have to be perfectly sterile and matter of fact, either. But that would be better than just repeatedly counting the ways in which the reviewer hates bukkake. It's nice if a reviewer actually digs the particular kind of porn they're reviewing and THEN they can rate it based upon how good it is or isn't compared to other flicks in it's category. It's fine to say "I like bukkake but this one was just poor". But what good is a review that only seeks to preach? I don't need that. I could tell you without reading such reviews there are people who find just about any given porn to be offensive and disgusting. Who cares? If I want to read that, I'll go to some anti porn web site.
I think there may be some slight miscommunication here. As I said, there's nothing wrong with saying you didn't care for a movie. It's just that there are reviewers who repeatedly watch stuff they hate and perpetually rant and rave about it. I don't know if ADT reviewers get to choose what they get to review or not. I really haven't looked into it. Elsewhere, I'm sure some of the more popular reviewers receive screeners from everyone whether they want them or not. But that doesn't mean they have to review them. They could contact the studios and say "Hey. I'm not reviewing this stuff. I don't like it. Stop sending it". And either the studios will take the hint or they'll just be pointlessly sending out screeners.
I'm sorry. I didn't mean to imply all reviewers were doing this. I wasn't talking about anyone in particular. I haven't read any of your reviews. Maybe you don't. But some do.

To clarify - ADT reviewers who get screeners from us choose which movies they want to review. We're very clear we want honest reviews. We don't edit the content. Studios send us screeners whether the reviews are positive or negative. Heck, some studios even send us screeners at our address in CA from 7 years ago (stopping screeners is not an option.) Our screener process is meant to mimic the buying process (we have an online order system and hundreds of titles available.) However, since there is no cost it allows reviewers to watch movies they're interested in but wouldn't necessarily buy. bigfoot, there are so many reviewers on this site. i'm sure there are plenty into the rough sex like sean renaud who posted above.
Talk about going off on a tangent.................. I'm glad to see there is some passion on both sides, but as the original poster, let me restate what I am looking for by posting this thread: - I like rough sex in my adult movies, adult fiction, etc., In real life, I snuggle with my wife of twenty years as often as possible, enjoy raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. - I like things that seem real and evoke real responses from within myself. This could be a painting, a flower, a great mainstream movie performance or something as simple as a great fuck flick where it someone is reacting with the look/sounds of terror while getting fucked harder than they thought was humanly possible. So much in porn is fake that you have to weed through piles of bad acting, bad direction, poor lighting or stiff performances in order to find something that pops. I have found that the reactions to people that push the envelope tend to be more real. I also tend to enjoy the BTS segments in many, many DVD's as we get to see the people in a more relaxed, less camera-ready mode (except for performers, like SUnny Lane, who are always "on") - What I really enjoy are situations that people get in but cannot get out - a great example would be the classic Parker story, "Stacy's Senior Year" which includes blackmail, degradation and humiliation. I wish there were more porn like this available and that the feelings of helplessness could translate better to a DVD (mainstream examples would be movies like "The Descent" and the "Saw" movies) - - Examples of adult movies I dig are Fuck Slaves (and others by Jake Malone), many of Rocco's Animal Trainers, JM Prod's Meatholes (especially when he breaks a girl and they start crying like in #1, 2 and 6 where Brynn Brooks cried through most of her scene), the Hellfire Sex series but only because I am blown away by some of the performances (like in #4 with the scene between Sandra Romain and Venus), Kylie Ireland's post-contract-star directorial efforts (as she is willing to push the envelope), classic porn that feature Jamie Gillis as that man is a pervert (he was in movies that included Blackmail. One in particular is the classic Vista Valley PTA), Pornstars who are willing to push themselves, like Belladonna), etc., Now I am not saying this is the only porn I enjoy. There are many other forms including g/g, cum-swapping, classic features, anal, newbies, etc., that fills in my collection. Enjoying Rough Sex seems to be the hardest genre to explain, define and justify. It is not easy to say you enjoy watching people be degraded, 'raped' or humiliated, but, hey, it's all good and all part of the porn world. I hate to use a cliche like "it is what it is" but I don't like, for example, the whole transexual scene. However, it is part of the porn world so I accept its existence and move on with my likes. I hope this clears up what I am looking for in terms of my likes. However, if you go back and read the initial email you will find the whole point of this thread was to learn about reviewers who are more open minded to rough sex in their reviews. That's it - nothing more........ Sorry to have set this wholething in motion.... Edited by - bigfoot on 2/25/2008 9:04:49 PM
I disagree while Don is a solid reviewer he does NONE of the specific bondage producers like Rick Savage, Gothic Media, Bizarre Videos, or say any of the foreign producers where the focus is clearly bondage as the main target then sex as the add-in. Though they do some good reviews of the USA produced sex with bondage throw in films like "the Taunting" but as you can read in the review itself http://www.xcritic.com/reviews/read.php?ID=30994 the bondage is NOT a focus. "So then you are left with looking at the sex and trying to make heads or tails of the who and why of what is going on." I thought the film and its focus was straight forward as a bondage exploitation film where the undead are seeking to torture the living and maintain their own power by sucking the lifeforce in the AGE old boring idea of sexual energy from the mentally possessed. I have to agree it WAS a weak film and Star Trek (the original series back in the 1960s) did this idea of the mind monster living off of fear and mind energy FAR FAR better as a Jack the Ripper theme. And as summed up in the final analysis "The sex to say the least was mediocre. The only scene that was enjoyable was the Katja Kassin. Anyone that is a fan of hers knows how she tackles an anal scene. This is one title that she could have done all without the other females cast members." So what the BDSMN fan would be looking for is the review on how the women was captured; the intensity of the tie-down; the believability of the screams while they are being tortured; the imagination of the methodology of the sex while the performer is tied-down or restrained -- I think we have had enough of upside 69 sessions. And again, that focus is NOT what most reviewers are going to focus on, as these reviewers are NOT looking for the BDSM aspect as their audience is NOT looking for that critique. That would the same as a horror specific reviewer would be looking for if they were looking at this film. They would not be looking at the sex but on the emotional fear genration and possibly the gore factor, asking -- Was anyone scared by the setup of the attacks; did the performers react in a credible way to the threats they encounter; did the scene present an atmosphere that makes the viewer fearful for the character? But this is again the idea of almost all of the adult reviews are done for the mainstream adult films as those are the ones who sell and the reviews are written for the bulk of the general consumers in order to get people to buy product and as shown on X Critic it is still the general straight sex with a secondary focus on male homosexual films as again these are the main areas of production and affiliation for the bulk of the porn industry. If BDSM without sex was a major draw for the adult consumer we would have focused production and reseller devices (including reviewers who are specifically addressing such consumer) do so. But focused bondage films are NOT a big draw in the USA adult consumer market. That is the reason there are VERY few people who are commenting on the power whip techniques and believability of the action between the beat downs and the intensity of the reaction of the target when the mistress actually cuts her name on her sub's chest in blood or has the hooks pierced through the back of her target to hang him up on the wall a la Chris Angel and Matt Zane or the guy looks like he is so dropped up on pain killers that they have to hoist him up which of course defeats the desire of seeing the "believeable reaction" as one's supposedly virgin skin is subjected to such "brutal" attacks.
