Paul Little (aka Max Steiner, Max Hardcore) will surrender to authorities on Thursday to begin serving his sentence. He will eventually leave prison as a convicted sex offender. Although I would prefer that there not be government censorship of adult-related materials I'm glad to see this punk sadist get his comeuppance. There was nothing artistic about the abuse that he put on some of his cast; to say that they wanted it is like saying that an abused wife wanted or deserved it. Max decided to push the envelope and, in doing so caused the XXX industry to get a lot of undue federal attention. My hope is that he will serve out his full sentence and, in doing so learn how to be a good bottom.
I always said, if he looked like Manuel Ferrara, there'd never be a problem. Even if you hate the guy, what he's being sent away for is pretty dumb. It's not because he plays a mean fake pedophile ... they could go after anybody the same way they did Max. He's just easier to pick on because he's like a wrestling villain.

I don't like Max at all. In fact I hope he gets some ironic vomit treatment from Bubba in the big house, but I can't feel good about it at all in a broader sense. This is a huge victory for the anti-porn dickheads out there.

No, the government's own witness stated that he did not ship any video in the case to Florida. The trial court made a major rewrite of law by stating that since Max's web site had a link to the entity that *did* sell & ship the video to Florida, that was sufficient nexus to Florida to allow Max to be tried there. Actually selling or shipping a video to Florida is not necessary under that court's reasoning.
The liability of Max or the repulsiveness of his productions should not factor into this. As difficult as that may be we have to remember that this is a chilling case in that in a way a precedent is being set about what a definition of obscenity is. It might be easy for us to say he went over the edge but where does that line end? A few contributors have already outlined some very good examples. This case was disturbing on so many fronts; the actual repulsiveness (or not depending upon your perspective) of his productions; the prosecution of the case it self and most importantly the acceptance of those of us who are porn fans of the ability of others to make decisions about what we may watch. NOT GOOD!!!
As an insider i would like to express my opinion on a larger scale, rather than on the specific case, well knowing that many many collegues and insiders will disagree but hey...who cares :) The problem here is not if gagging is right or wrong (personally, i have never ever met a man, in or out of porn, who didn't like to push his penis down my throat, let's face it guys); the problem is that too often the gagging is not enjoyed, but it is done anyway because a certain amount of money is paid in exchange. Lately, in too many cases i see a very low level of professionality in the castings by the producers who tend to match beauty to their scripts, rather than the right person for that script, mistakenly thinking that users are stupid and cannot discern a girl who likes to be into a certain action from one who clearly performs with an eye to the clock, just waiting for the pay time. The problem is that porn is the only industry where you get hired even if in your curriculum there is no track of the requisites needed to perform the job and this, like in every other industry, lowers the quality of the product and fucks up the economy, forcing producers, distributors and promoters to release a monstrous, insane and ridiculous amount of free content, in order to keep up with a market which has too many players for the existing amount of paid-content's consumers. This brings some people to cross the line and to start proposing more extreme content to grab new categories of consumers who are not always the most sane of mind. Performers, on the other side, could greatly help to cut poorly professional producers off the market just following a few simple rules: -) Before closing a deal, pretend a script and be honest with yourself: the part you have been assigned might not be your part and in that case you should thank the producer and move on. The right script is much more important than a tempting amount of money and it will make a difference in your career and therefore also on the money you will earn in a long term. -) If you accept the part and the script is not honored and you feel you have been abused, somehow, press charges straight after the shooting: don't sign the model release, don't accept the pay and go pressing charges. If you do sign the model release and get the money, i don't respect you more than the bad producer when afterwards you go pressing charges. -) ALWAYS pretend to have your agent, or husband, or companion or someone close to you present at the shooting: this assures that a previously agreed script is what is really shot. It's your body, it's your performance and you have the right to obtain that. A producer who denies you that right is not a serious producer and you won't lose anything in a long term refusing to shoot for that producer. Remember, you are not a piece of meat: you are a performer and a professional and every act you perform must be an ENJOYED act and not the product of an unbalanced situation. Professionality from all sides will change the opinion that some prudes with their hands into politics have about porn. There's nothing wrong in being a bitch or a slut because you enjoy being it; it's all wrong, viceversa, to bend over your own dignity, principles and values to God-Money and turn a sexual acting performance into a shitty piece of abusement ready to be picked by those politicians as an example of how evil and rotten this industry is. Webmasters should also do their part and watch what they are promoting, before doing so, instead of blindly promoting the program with the best payout or the niche with the most shocking content. In the United States men and women serve entire life sentences only to be exonerated by DNA tests, deathbed confessions, pardons or appeals. Either way it proves the system is inherently flawed. It is something everyone knows and lives with in a constant state of caution (with special relevance to minorities). Playing around with the idea that you are immune to this reality is INSANE. Max was a dog chasing cars on the freeway, daring, not hoping, that he would not get hit. That's where I loose my concern. To defend this in light of other inequities of the law . This is what happens to a hell of a lot more people than you think in America and they don't all live in million dollar homes or hire million dollar law firms when they lose their low profile cases. As I posted before, this is really nothing new or shocking. He gambled and lost. Some people don't even get a chance to roll the dice and end up ten times worse. This IS America. Maybe he should have asked for the Euro-version of his verdict......

I don't know who told you this, but it is totally inaccurate at a pros level. The model release is signed after the performance and the money is paid accordingly in hands; a different thing is if the model is signed on a long term contract under a producer and in that case everything will go as per the signed contract. A model who signs a model release before any material has been shot is crazy and s/he is likely putting him/herself into trouble. A producer asking a model to sign a release before any material has been shot is exactly the kind of producer that this industry can easily afford to lose. The praxis used by serious producers and models is the following, for one time shoots: - Check of the model's standard diseases certificate and acquisition of model's ID and documents for filing. - Model's vision of the strandard diseases certificates of all the models s/he is supposed to perform with. - Video recorded declaration of the model (with ID shown beside his/her head) stating his/her free will to shoot porn material on that date in that place for that producer; the declaration states also the model's freedom from drugs and alcohol at that time and the kind of performance requested. - Shooting time. - Video recorded declaration of the model (with ID shown beside his/her head) stating his/her free will in having shot porn material, including a description of the kind of performance, freedom from drugs and alcohol statement and mental and phisycal status of the model after the performance. - Model release signing. - Payment time. Thank goodness this industry is full of serious people. For those who are not serious, it would be enough not to work for them, no matter how much money they would pay (but usually they won't pay much, believe me): i can guarantee you that the final product will not be worth anyway and that they will be out of business in no time as well because scams and dishonesty always have a very short life.

I think this whole case is fucked for sure. I am not at all a fan of Max' shit but that does not mean he should be used as an example. In the end the girls appearing in his movies were well aware of what was going to go on and what they were going to be doing, have done to them. In the end it was a paycheque for them was it not? People today have varied tastes, in some people's minds it is warped. What I find really fucked in the USA is that so much is promoted about how great the USA is with freedom and freedom of speech, but then you go to certain states and thier laws are from the early 1900's. And lawmakers are so out of touch with the citizens in thier city and country. Here in Canada we used to have such a hardass censorship board in the 80's in each province. And we all got our porn from the USA in mailorders with plain packaging. It was illegal up here to possess any form of it. Then finally the gov't realized people were going to get it regardless. And so they edited out cumshots and penetration. Then the censorship boards became more lenient and allowed more. Seems the USA is now moving backwards. I have ordered numerous titles from the states, Canada Customs has checked the package and never once confinscated anything. There is no such thing as acceptable porn and unacceptable porn in any case. That is more an individual choice. The gov't in the USA would love to make all porn illegal.
