Porn as a whole kind of makes me feel icky, these days. I think there are probably a lot of people in porn who have that "12-year old" conception of sex, and it shows. As performer, she was special as she was able to convincingly fake intimacy, while at the same time, never really experiencing it in her personal life.
No doubt, she is an awesome actress. Just never realized how far the acting went. And to think I particularly liked her schoolgirl roleplay. ::shudder:: I'm going to PERVERT JAIL!!!!

^Don't worry they have fur lined hand cuffs there.
Oh yes, indeed. Let's throw them all in - House being a particular one that people round my way seem to think is high quality, while they routinely turn their nose up at my media tastes. I'm not saying what I watch is high quality, but it's ridiculous for them to think their tastes are superior. Anyway, I happen to get a lot out of Real Chance of Love - it's ripe for a feminist interpretation of racialized stereotypes. Yay!

I just watched a few minutes of it tonight during commercials on other more worthy programming. What a fucking joke. Dr. Quack has Penny so fucked up that she was crying about how terrible she was because she took the virginity of so many boys. Give me a break. While they may hypocritically consider her a whore they are grateful that she let them fuck her. I think Dr. Quack took advantage of Penny's possible alcoholism and while she was at her most vulnerable sent her on a sexual guilt trip of monumental proportions.
He's taking away the porn fantasy girl and showing how she came from a damaged life. Clearly he's evil. Porn fans need to grow up. God forbid you people learn how beef gets to your table or Nike gets on your feet. It's not a pretty world and sometimes the things you like the most come from ugly places. Either give them up or deal with it, but don't whine about how the truth is ruining your ability to jerk off with a clear conscience. And the girl who was molested repeatedly as a child, raped twice as a teenager and clearly has a drug problem is the most troublesome!?! Who'd think a life of pain and violation would lead to her not being Miss Mary Sunshine!?! Next you'll be telling me water is wet! How dare she not keep that away so we don't have to see it!?!

Quiet, Captain Save A Ho. Dr. Drew is a quack and should not have a medical license. He parades broken people around on TV hoping there will be conflict and emotional breakdowns all for our viewing pleasure. (Whatever happened to doctor/patient privilege? I know that's a legal concept but this show makes it look pretty stupid). He sees people at their nadir and then convinces them they have additional "problems". He's nothing more than a street hustling con artist who might as well be bilking people by giving astrological readings.
Yeah...but Dr. Drew runs the place and will stare at you for long periods of time without saying anything...driving you to near insanity. It's got to be worse than water-boarding.

When you get called out by your school mates on the play ground with the ditty, "1234 Jenny Ketchum is a wore", She had to change schools. Those who pay more attention to Dr. Drew then the patients, IMHO are missing the point.

Dr. Drew did no such thing. All of these people came there under their own free will. There are no jokes here. It's not about the boys she took the virginity of, its about Jenny Ketchum. If you actually were paying any attention, its not really about the sex, but about the lack of intimacy. She has been unable to share her soul, hopes and dreams with anyone else. Of course that may not be a problem for you. Before you pop off again, go read her blog over the last 6 months, that is if you are interested in more then just flaming the thread.
I don't dislike Drew because he's ruining the porn fantasy - that's utterly ridiculous for a number of reasons, including the fact that I am not well acquainted with any of the porn people on the show, I watched the Rehab shows before this one and hated him then too, and finally I am probably more aware of the things that go on and have gone on in the lives of sex workers than you, so there aren't really any more surprises or fantasies for me. To address the whole "taking a boy's virginity" issue - I found that whole thing disturbing because a) Drew wasn't making her feel any better about whether or not she is a "whore" - the playground abuse and fact that she had a hard time is predominantly because of societal attitudes toward women and sex; and b) the double standard involved regarding abuse/molestation - girls who go around systematically sleeping with boys are let off the hook - "You didn't do anything wrong" - while boys who do the same are seen as abusers. This is a double standard. Furthermore, there wasn't really any detailed explanation of what the dynamics of these sexual encounters were. I also find it unsettling that there was no interrogation of Jennie's first sexual experience - she said she enjoyed it, but there was obviously something else to it - yet it was immediately assumed to be abusive - why? Because she was young? Because she is female? Maybe it was a bad experience, and she felt bad for her enjoyment - maybe there's more to it than this. Point is, any experience articulated on that show is classified according to preconceived notions, and then Drew and his cronies put words in the participant's mouth - "You blame yourself" "You're looking for that in this" or whatever. They often seem to make the addict feel worse about themselves, in a way that's based on simplistic cultural notions. It sickens me sometimes. That's why I was so thrilled when he got called out by the British guy. Good for him.
Going on a show like this to make all this stuff public wont help, they are just exploiting her. I never understood the idea of paying people or letting people make money off of you all in the guise of self help. The more messed up you are, the more messed up they can make you seem the more money they will make.

Therapy is about the exploration, by the patient, of their own emotions or feelings, as a method of confronting there own demons. It's not happy hour, else hits of cocaine and marijuana, along with booze, would be on the menu. A therapist is a guide, and nothing more, to help a patient identify the causes of their problems. Once identified, by the patient, the therapist can help suggest strategies to help the patient over come their problems. A therapist is not Dr. Feelgood. What we are seeing in these early episodes, is the patients beginning their own self exploration. Dr. Drew and the other therapists are helping the patients peel away the scare tissue of some really deep wounds. It is not the therapist's role to judge patients one way or another. Whatever you or I or Dr. Drew thinks of a 12 year old girl taking the virginities of dozens adolescent boys, is not relevant. In the end its about what Jenny thinks about it and how she deals with it.
Everything you said is pretty much true, the thing I have the most problem with is this, "therapist is a guide" if they are payed for a show they may guide them in ways that a private therapist wouldn't. I think some stuff is better if its not out there for everyone to know about and use it against you, but that's my view. If having all this out publicly actually ends up helping I guess that's what matters.

The patients chose to make it public. Any therapist doing their job, is basically neutral to the process. If it was you who was suffering this kind of addiction, you might choose to keep it private. But in the end, it would be your decision. Remember, you are not necessarily seeing Dr. Drew's entire interaction with the patients, but snippets of them. The focus is on the patients and their struggles, not Dr. Drew. The purpose of this show, and others like it, is to be a window to the viewers, to show how debilitating addictions are, and how they can be addressed and conquered.
Not much of Penny in this episode. Just a few zingers. I love how they kept in that whole , "traditionally, a patient like Kari Ann would be removed", but we're making tv, people so she STAYS!! Kari Ann I love how she kept calling Kendra, "tranny face" when Kari Ann has got granny face. Tired looking brat. Nice edit, jrsl76
Anyone know some sites online where I can view the show? One site so far doesn't allow those outside the USA to watch it :( BrekkyDJ (a Jennie Ketcham fan)
That was classic. Yes, Kari Ann was being completely horrible, but boy do I love seeing that "sad face" Drew turn a shade of pale, followed by what I call the "Drew pout" - where his lips get all tight. It's a subtle remove from "sad face" and occurs when he doesn't know what to say.
Penny Flame is cool as fuck. She's pretty and smart and funny. She has the best pure acting skills of any porn star I have seen since I started watching porn 20 years ago. She is a talented woman in more ways than one. If she ever decided that she wants to quit porn (I hope she doesn't, but that's for purely selfish reasons) I think she could have a nice, lucrative career on the legit (hah!) side of the entertainment biz.
