Greetings from Europe.
I would like to ask you a few questions.
First and most important one - Why AVN is so homophobic? Why did they make this ridiculous segregation of gay and a bi porn from main awards? Isn’t gay-sex adult enough?
It appears to me that «straight» porn industry imposes double standards on bisexuality and homophobia. «Straight» porn industry segregates and humiliates gay and bi guys and one of the obvious examples is creation of the ghetto as GayVN.
My friends, who are STRAIGHT girls, usually are watching only gay and bi porn. Because there are so many sexy guys there!
Could somebody tell me why the straight-porn doesn't consider opinion of straight-girls?
Back to double standards, why female homosexual scenes are presented in straight-porn, but male homosexual scenes aren't presented?!
Then let this genre be renamed to "Porn for straight men". As of now this genre represents only male heterosexual interests.
Another question, why some envious "bisexual-women-for-pay" accuse gay porn performers that they spread AIDS? In most of gay movies actors use condoms. Probably "bisexual-women-for-pay" spread AIDS!?
Did anybody hear about Sigmund Freud? He has told that all people are born bisexual. Then why only women have right to be bisexual?
Why clever Greeks and Romans were bisexual and appreciated beautiful male body, but now men suppress their homoerotism and transform it to a homophobia.
What is the main reason for that? The crapping collection of fairy tales called Bible or hypocritical homophobic influence of "straight" porn industry?

I'm not quite sure what you're arguing here...
If you're saying that gay XXX is segregated from straight XXX, on account of some inherent fear or homophobia, I'd be inclined to agree.
But I'm not sure what any of this has to do with AIDS...

I don't believe the double standard is as much on the part of the industry as it is the consumers. Heterosexual guys have segregated bisexual and gay guys long before the porn industry came along. Straight dudes don't want to see pictures of 2 guys boning when we go into a porn store; while some of us don't care, some others get all offended and grossed out.
Conversely, straight guys love looking at two women having sex so that is welcomed and often demanded. That's where your double standard comes in: Guys complaining about gay porn and demanding lesbian porn. The industry caters to what it's audience wants. Something around 80% of the porn audience are straight guys, and what they are asking for is what is being presented.
The industry would gladly saturate the market with gay porn if the consumers were demanding it on the level of straight and lesbian porn. Afterall there is a transsexual category in the AVN awards, and that's because Transsexual porn is extremely popular in the general scope of things.

I am not Artur. I live in another country.
Yes. Becouse christianity, until guys were BI.
But now "straight" porn ñultivates a homophobia. It is a reason and effect of homophobia.
"Straight" porn imposes standarts that "male-female and female-female is normal BUT male-male not normal."
In PreChristian era male bisexuality was a norm. And now many hetero-guys would like to have sex with the guy sometimes..BUT it is a tabboo!
"Straight" porn blocks male bisexuality. However, demand for this production exists for a long time. Not only for gays and bi, for many straight
girls too.
As a result not-adoption, homophobic violence and humiliation gay and bi guys, and also a suicide of homosexual teenagers. I know that you dont
worry about it,
but I want that you knew about it. And I want to say that!
And ghetto as GayVN becouse a homophobic hate. Nothing else...

Dude, I don't want to sound rude or harsh, but your English isn't strong enough to articulate clearly what you're trying to say. The seperation og gay/bi films and straight films is not a cause, it is an effect. The overwhelming majority of porn is purchased by men, and the majority of those men are straight. And straight men just do not give a fuck about gay porn. The two different categories have, at least for the most part, audiences that are exclusively gay, or straight, and don't really move back and forth from one type of porn to the other, any more than people move back and forth between which gender they are attracted to. It would actually make no sense to stuff fans of either persuasion into the same room, nor would it make sense to throw gay movies into the same pool to be voted on, by people who are straight, and don't watch gay porn. It has nothing to do with homophobia, and is in fact totally logical. I am straight, therefore I watch straight porn, and why would I care about what's hot in gay porn? I have neither interest, nor opinion.

Thank you for answer. I am sorry for my bad English.
But you haven't convinced me. It is a reason and effect of homophobia.
These standarts block male homoerotism(48% by A.Kinsey researches) and transform it to a homophobia.
Then let this genre be renamed to "Porn for straight men". This genre represents only male heterosexual interests. Not Adult!

I don't think that's strictly true. If they didn't give a fuck, gay and straight porn would be sold in one category: porn. I find that segregation incredibly irritating and it's one thing I would love changed. The fact that everything is so anxiously separated shows lots of straight men do give a fuck -- simply the sight of two guys touching each other can cause a complete panic. If I see something in a flick I'm not into, I don't wash my eyes out with salt, I just wait for it to be over or I skip the scene.

I'll add my two cents (or maybe a nickel's worth):
The "double standard" is there but, as people have already commented, is not on the part of the production companies, but rather a byproduct of consumer demands.
Straight dudes/"brahs," etc. don't want any of "that gay shit" interrupting heteronormative masturbation fantasies, so why on earth would a porn studio do something knowing that it would upset their customer base...cause, you know, "gay shit is fucked up man, but two chicks makin' out is hot!"
And there's the actual double standard: it's not that homosexuality is found unappealing, but that specifically male homosexuality is reviled by the heteronormative male while female homosexuality has been integrated as an almost heterosexual fetish behavior. In fact, the very behavior which has gotten some male performers virtually prohibited from appearing in straight sex scenes (i.e. also appearing in homosexual scenes with other males) has just the opposite effect when a female performer has sex with another woman on camera.
Now, I can completely understand that if the perceived "goal" of "pornography" is to sexually stimulate the viewer, those with heterosexual preferences are less inclined to want to see homosexuality depicted just like those with homosexual preferences are less inclined to want to see heterosexuality depicted. So, as everyone tries to claim discrimination in straight porn, it's not as if movie geared towards the gay and lesbian markets often have cameos pussies and dicks, respectively.
But still, in contemporary hetero porn, there not only seems to be a dislike for male/male content, but a fear/worry that any content that might have even some slight gay subtext will "soil" the heterosexual "integrity" of the movie.
This kinda reminds of a thread from a while back in which another poster asserted that vaginal DPs were "gay" because no truly heterosexual man would dream of penetrating a woman at the same time as another man, lest their dicks touch. While I can see some substance to this claim, providing that the men in question are so staunchly heterosexual in their lives that even the mere image of a nude man makes them quiver, but if two women make out with each other while one's getting fucked, it's "hot." Once again, there's the double standard.
But it's a relatively new double standard. A double standard of the past 25 years or so for, if we examine many XXX movies produced before the mid 80s, plenty of behaviors which, if present in modern XXX, would horrify the cliched hetero male viewer. I'm talking about innocuous stuff like vaginal DPs, or two dicks being held together while being blown at once, or, even worse, an occasional instance of a MMW three-way in which one dude ends up partially cumming on the other. My god, what would the anti "gay shit" dudes say to that? But the thing is, back then these acts were commonplace in films and no one seemed to mind. So where did this whole change happen?
What's more is that male/male scenes would also occasionally pop up in straight features, such as THE STORY OF JOANNA and THE EROTIC ADVENTURES OF CANDY (two of the era's most successful films) and no one seemed to be put off.

^ That reminds me of an imdb comment on Erotic Adventures of Candy written in 2006: "this porn from yesteryear is too much of a mixed-bag to recommend tho. On one hand, Carol and John Holmes one sex scene is pretty good, and carol is hot. On the other hand, the comedy is so bad, and most of the sex scenes are way below par. But the cincher is when the Director somehow gets it in her mind that showing a scene of a gay guy giving a BJ was an OK idea. Now, I'm not homophobic, but I DON'T want to see homosexual sex in a STRAIGHT porn film.
My Grade: F-
."

john lyons, I agree with you in some points.
But! Homophobia is an artificial phenomenon. From the history we know a lot of civilizations (until Christianity and Islam) where male bisexuality was a norm.
Psychologists often will say that aggressive homophobia is because of the suppression of the own homoerotism. And I know many hetero-guys who drink alcohol and offer sex to gay-guys after that))))
Therefore everything that you write is ambiguously. And now porn continues to cultivate this stigmatisation.
GayVN as the Jewish ghettoes in nazi Germany and as a policy of a racial segregation in the USA (until 1964) and South Africa (until 1994). White people didn't want that black people were with them in cafe, schools... It is hate!

I really hope it's the language barrier that's caused you to compare the separation of AVN from GayVN to Jewish ghettos in Nazi occupied Europe. If not, that's pretty low...
Also, and I say this as someone who has had sex with members of both genders (though I hate the term "bisexual"), I don't think all people have some inherent desire for homosexuality that has been quashed by contemporary Judeo-Christian society. Sure, Greek and Roman societies made fewer gender based sexual distinctions, but neither Greek nor Roman societies treated homosexual and heterosexual intercourse as socially equal.
I'd agree that homophobia is taught but I know plenty of people who identify as homosexual who are absolutely repulsed by heterosexuality. So nothing is as simple as you're making it out to be.

Her (the director) was a him (Bob Chinn) and Chinn was a pretty equal opportunity filmmaker when it came to sex...A little gay, some trannies, some lesbians, and, of course, mostly straight couplings.
I was just looking over the "arthur" thread that Joey Starr linked up. I've gotta say, he makes some great points, especially regarding "couples" movies.
I was just talking to a woman who loves watching porn and was complaining that contemporary so-called "couples" or "women friendly" titles still spend too much time sexualizing the WOMAN and always take opportunities to offer incidental female nudity or girl/girl scenes, but never offers incidental male nudity, or even something as simple as a man jerking off without a woman present (like female masturbation scenes don't require the on-screen presence of a man).
So I'd agree with Arthur that the sexualization of the male body in X rated movies isn't just for homos...Women get off on it too and, with the presence of girl/girl or female masturbation scenes but absolute absence of male masturbation scenes or male/male sex in movies which are supposedly being marketed to appeal to women as much as men, these supposed "couples" films are clearly not representing the sexual interests of both sides of the heterosexual couple.
And as for "bi" porn, well that's always been a joke. The only serious example I can think of is Jerry Douglas' BOTH WAYS. Otherwise, bi porn is pretty much gay porn with women.
I'd love to see some contemporary studio create "couples" type films which feature both standard straight sex scenes, mixed with some girl/girl and guy/guy. Not a "bisexual" movie, but a predominantly straight oriented title which truly speaks to the sexual desires of both men and women.

Low? Why? It should be a shame to me?
Difference only in a damage from a segregation. Essence one: a segregation because of a hate.
About Greek and Roman societies. And not only in these societes male bisexuality was a norm - Kievan Rus'(Early Russia), Japan (until european influence), Indian America, China, african tribes, tribes of Papua-new Guinea and many others. Homosexual rites in pagan societes, the tolerant relation everywhere.
I know that homosexual and heterosexual intercourse as socially were not equal there. I wanted to tell not about this.
I wanted to tell that homosex was widespread. It means that not only homosexuals want men. Straights\bisexuals\bi-curious guys sometimes too. But Auraamistic religions have identified "correct" masculinity with heterosexism.
I didn't assert that 100 % of guys have such propensities. But nevertheless very many of them. But this taboo and consequently the reason for a homophobia. Ex-BF of my friend was terrible homophobic! But once she has found a huge gay porn collection in his computer. I think he's bi or bi-curious. But it is "shame", stigma.
I know that it will change. But it would be desirable, that it has occurred faster.
In this topic I want to say just one thing that AVN continues segregation and marginalization of gay\bi guys. GayVn is a ghetto. And it isn't a shame for me to repeat this.
"Low" it when homophobs write that "lesbians is a cool, but fags must die".

I was stating that I found it rather disrespectful to compare Jewish Ghettos in Nazi era Europe to AVN publishing a separate magazine for gay movies and products. Yeah, I think it's in poor taste to compare any aspect of an atrocity such as The Holocaust to what you perceive as poor marketing taste on the part of AVN.
I agree with you that homophobia has manifested itself in western society thanks, in part, to its prohibition in most major religions, despite its great prevalence throughout history. And no one is disputing that pansexuality was more or less acceptable in many societies before the introduction on Christianity. That's not the issue being debated here.
However, if you're trying to assert that most supposedly heterosexual men who express homophobia in the form of refusing to watch male/male sex scenes while demanding female/female sex scenes, are secretly gay or "bisexual," I think you're way off base.
It's perfectly reasonable that a man who's mostly (or solely) attracted to women might find women having sex appealing and men having sex unappealing, just like women who are attracted to men might find men having sex appealing and women having sex unappealing.
In the same way that I doubt you'll find much demand for random straight sex scenes in movies designed to appeal to gay or lesbian audiences; there simply isn't any interest on the part of the market these movies are being sold to.
I still think Arthur made the best point when he rationalized that so-called "couples" movies still seem geared exclusively towards heterosexual male desires and ignore a woman's desire to see the sexualization of a man. And with that assertion, I'm in complete agreement.

I'm an heterosexual girl, I'm 19 years old, And i also live in Moscow. I really like Gay/Bi porn. mainly BelAmi and Corbin Fisher. Because gay sex it's very hot, beautiful and fascinating. I would like that my boyfriend were bisexual. But in the most gay films the girl's interests are not considered. It is wrong.
And GayVN it's getto. I agree.

Did anybody hear about Sigmund Freud? He has told that all people are born bisexual.

I'm bisexual? That news has not yet reached my penis. [:p)]
Seriously though, any guy who watches male-female porn would have to admit to some sort of tinge of bi-ness perhaps. After all, your attention is going to be focused another guys' dick at least part of the time. And as has been discussed in ADT many times, most guys want the guy in the scene to be fairly attractive, not a 110-pound small-dicked wanker.
But as far as being sexually attracted to the same gender enough to want to have sex with them on a regular basis? Speaking for myself, no. Never had any desire to fuck another man. You want to, great! But Freud said lots of stuff, not all of it true.

There's a Crashpad scene with two people who look like guys, but with vaginas. It's not stroke material for me, but I was fine with watching it. I'm not fine with watching dp. That's too many man parts and too much hairy man ass, especially with the porn standard of shooting just the genitals and ignoring the rest of their bodies, with the result that most guys in porn look like dogshit above the waist.

I have no proof but I would think if you did a hypothetical poll on the 100 most beautiful, with 50 of the best females, and 50 of the best males, the women will always dominate.
Many women are fascinated with other beautiful women, while few men are openly fascinated with other attractive men. In addition to that a man admitting to enthusiastically that another man is hot, could easily be ridiculed by the woman he loves. It could even freak her out and be the deal breaker, a big risk and he isn't the only tight ass drawing the lines.
On the other hand many men would almost have an almost emotional, or spiritual experience over watching his wife or gf kissing another woman. College girls going bi, is very fashionable and hot, while gay experimentation isn't embraced by the masses of males, or the females.

So it is just business, be it main stream movies or porn wanting to sell their product. The market is the driver, why would anyone expect any thing different?

greg,
So, it all because "straight" porn industry standards. Who has created this fashion?!! That "male-female and female-female it is a normal, but male-male it is not normal". But I think, guys will be more free in experiments with their sexuality soon.
zarinafan, I already wrote in this topic that many guys are compelled to suppress their bisexual potential now. Guys most better than girls understand requirements of each other in sex. In pagan societies it understood better than now.
In particular, because of hypocritical double standards from porn.
I am not against pseudo-lesbian scenes in "straight" porn. I am against hypocrisy! I am against segregation, marginalization and stigmatization male-male sexuality from human sexuality. it is as racist segregation in USA until 1960s.
It is a cause of homophobia, not-adoption. It is obvious. For what this ghetto as GayVN? Award ceremonies must be under one brand.

"I have no proof but I would think if you did a hypothetical poll on the 100 most beautiful, with 50 of the best females, and 50 of the best males, the women will always dominate."
But it is a consequence of a sexism and heterosexist patriarchy too. Back to Antiquity (where heterosexism wasn't), we can see that both male and female body were considered as the beautiful.
Absolutely irrational statement which is imposed by hetero-men only because so it seems to them. This phenomenon called "male gaze". Also it is considered in feminist movement.
There are many excellent articles about this silly stereotype!

My thoughts are obviously subjective, I was clear with that in my post.
I will also agree that it sounds reasonable for gay men to find other men more attractive.
But that doesn't refute the idea the idea of beautiful or sexy, is more likely to be applied to females than males.
But, I should have stayed out of this topic. I don't care much for any Awards
Presentations, Banquets etc...and don't waste my time watching them.
Boredom just got the best of me. I apologize.

Goregoregirl,
You said you don't want to see homosexual scenes in straight porn movies. Girl-girl is a homosexual scene. Why don't you object to that? You seem to have double standards.
Girl-girl = homosexual. Any straight porn movie that contains girl-girl scenes is incorporating female homosexual activity. Homosexual is homosexual, not straight.
A man who enjoys watching lesbians isn't straight by the merit of the fact that he watches lesbians. He may be a bisexual man, for instance. He may even be a gay guy who enjoys watching lesbians in the same way some lesbians like watching male-male sex.
In any case, this isn't about you.

just me,
Um, yes it is a homophobic double standard. The bisexual double standard in the straight porn industry is most definitely based on homophobia - ie homophobia towards male-male sexuality.
I also think that the women in porn are just as guilty as the men in promoting this double standard. On the social GLBT blogs, there's a campaign developing to come down hard on the females who do straight porn. They're being accused of propping up the homophobic double standard.
I don't know what might happen eventually but it seems that straight porn is most definitely getting a bad rap on the GLBT blogs.

And what, pray tell, are the GLBT bloggers going to do about this? How are they going to "come down" on female performers? They're not gonna do shit. Just spray a bunch of crap on the internet on some blogs no one really reads anyway.

But why this segregation? It is a segregation male-male sexuality from human sexuality. It is as a racist segregation.
I don't force anybody to masturbate on a gay porn! But award ceremonies must be under ONE BRAND!!!
Film festivals in Berlin, Venice and Cannes also have gay-awards.
Probably some spectators dont want this.
But ceremonies pass in frameworks of one festival and under ONE BRAND. Maybe in different days.
And the statement about absolute incompatibility of spectators is not true. many gay guys buy straight porn, many "straight" guys also buy gay porn because of their curiosity and for their girl-friends. Gay guys buy lesbian porn (I dont understand why, but this fact is exist), lesbians buy gay male porn because in "straight" porn fake lesbian scenes.
And, of course, a lot of straight girls prefer gay male porn. It is absolutely logical and obviously. Especially young girls, new generation.
Human sexuality is not ordinary thing. But this segregation imposes hypocritical double standards on bisexuality.
Not only gay guys have inclination to men, but this hypocritical policy block male homoerotism, because it is a tabboo. Doesn't leave chance of change.
Maybe guys could be more free in realization of their natural bisexual potential soon! as it was in Antiquity, for example!!! Male bisexuality was a norm!
But no, AVN say that female bisexuality is a ordinary thing, but any male-male activity should be segregated and forced out.
And guys suppress their homoerotism and transform it to homophobia.
There are researches which have proved this fact. Gomofobic men were excited from a gay porno, but then denied it (because this tabboo). These standards one of the homophobia reasons. To this conclusion comes more and more people!

Before you continue to make it seem as if "mainstream heterosexual society" has pushed gays out of their world, take a look at how the "mainstream" of gay society has self-segregates:
A "gay award" or "gay film festival" is already saying that films with gay themes are "different" than other films and must be categorized separately.
Gay pride parades are based on the idea that gays are "different but equal."
Gay bars and clubs are far less welcoming for anyone who's not part of the gay mainstream than "straight" bars and clubs are to people who are gay.
Gays tend to congregate in "gay ghettos," an action of their choice, which inadvertently segregates them from the rest of the community at large.
Don't tell me that the above things aren't the result of self imposed isolation and differentiation on the part of gays.
But here we come to a bigger issue: the fact is, most people who engage in homosexual sex don't want any part of "gay culture." They don't want to be singled out as homosexual, and therefore part of a "gay community." They're just ordinary people who don't parade their sexuality on their sleeve and make a point to tell the whole world of their sexual preferences and then complain when they, in turn, aren't accepted by most of the world.
I have plenty of homosexual friends who wouldn't be caught dead in a gay bar or pride parade, not because they don't approve of their existence, but because they don't feel a need to become part of a stereotype which, sadly enough, is what most gay people are.
What I'm sick of, and sorry that this has nothing to do with movies, is the "gay mainstream" trying to say that all people who are homosexuals want the same things and think the same way. I'm sick of this phony sense of "community" that dictates that if a man has sex with another man or a woman has sex with another woman, they must agree with all the socially conservative crap being spewed out by supposed pro-gay lobbyists. I'm sick of my homosexual friends being lumped in with pansies and fairies and assumed to frequent nothing but gay bars, simply because that's the image the "gay mainstream" has manifested for itself and shoved down the throat of everyone else. But what I'm most tired of is the hypocritical heteronormalization of homosexuality being perpetrated by a small, though very vocal sect of gays.

I agree with some points. But it because gays know what is aggression and injustice and are afraid that can face it again.

It's not a double standard at all. It's porn, pure and simple. Jeez lighten up. Why does everything have to be all inclusive? Porn is all about niche marketing. Look at the titles. If I want to see gay porn, I'll watch gay porn; however, if I'm watching "It's okay that Black and White Zilla are tapping my Stepdaughter's ass" I'll expect just that. I won't be expecting the step daughter to help double anal white zilla by black zilla, nor would I want to. The gay population in this country is roughly 10% +/-, so there is really no need to expect equal billing or a presence at the AVN awards show.
And really, there's already 100 categories for just staight porn, why bog down the show even further with 25 categories for gay porn? Even if they did, people would complain about the placement of the categories.

Actually, that's "Black and White Zilla are tag teaming my steap-daughted because they really wanna fuck me, the milf, but i enjoy formulaic lesbian sex but only tell black and white zilla that in order to fuck me, they first have to fuck my step-daughter who, in turn, is also a babysitter and likes to fuck various other stepfathers who, in turn, give permission for other black and white zillas to fuck their respective step-daughters, cause it seems that everyone's already gotten divorced and re-married, which is why there are only step-children."

It is a segregation and stigmatisation. 10% of population??? But female homosex is specified as straight, while male homosex forced out. So, it is sexism also. And of course It is imposes double standards and stereotypes.
I already wrote, but specially for you I can repeat:
"Film festivals in Berlin, Venice and Cannes also have gay-awards.
Probably some spectators dont want this.
But ceremonies pass in frameworks of one festival and under ONE BRAND. Maybe in different days."

Please, well,I guess you'll just have to limit your award show attendance to shows in Berlin, Venice and Cannes then. I did notice though is that not one gay porn star if whining about this so called stigmatism.
