The ADT forum as been online for almost 20 years. During this time we've always tried to make an effort to avoid sites that promote/share/distribute content for which the content owners receive no compensation. This guideline has served us well for all this time. But things are constantly changing in this business.
As a general rule we don't allow linking to "tube sites" from the forum. Porn Hub started out as a tube site. It's grown into something much more. Some studios, and many independent producers now use Porn Hub as their primary distribution channel or at least an active means of marketing their content. So we're considering altering our no-links-to-PornHub policy. No decisions have been made yet. The moderator staff has discussed it and we've decided to seek feedback from everyone before making a decision.
What do you think? Are we abandoning our principles if we allow links to Porn Hub?
We're not considering abandoning the general "no tube site links" policy, only making an exception for Porn Hub links.
Would love feedback from both fans and industry people.
In the past I've had at least one post deleted, when I linked to some clips that were posted by the pornstar themselves (Tana Lea, for instance, puts quite a lot of content on Pornhub). I thought this was a bit odd, to be honest, since presumably the pornstars wanted the clicks.
I think linking to 'official' clips that's generated by the industry (rather than just uploaded by members of the public, who are presumably just stealing content) seems okay to me.
That seems reasonable, but it's hard to automate. It's a lot of manual work to verify if clips are generated by the industry. It's like playing whack-a-mole. Which links are ok and which are legit? We can't know without having a human review each one.
We're hoping to implement policies that are easy to automate.
Someone recommended in a private message that we allow links to PornHubPremium.com and not to PornHub.com under the assumption that the premium site is compensating the producers for the content there.
My concern (as someone with very limited experience with Porn Hub) is that it won't be easy to discern between what is 'safe' and what isn't. But that's above my pay grade...
Part of me says 'stick to your principles.' An analogy is something being legalized (gambling, alcohol, cannabis) and the former 'outlaws' are rewarded by simply being allowed to move into the legitimate sphere.
But... this does seem to be a legitimate place for people and companies to post.
Apologies for this non-answer to your question. I guess the simplest thing for me to contribute is that I'll follow the rules, though I'm not sure I'll be posting Porn Hub links at any time.
It seems there are a few different icons/badges/indicators of verified content posted to PornHub. Might be able to possibly use that as means of saying ok/not ok. And I can automate the checking of these indicators when the post is made. It's a fair amount of programming work to implement this, but it's certainly an option if there's real value in allowing such links.
Well, I don't work in computing, so I don't know how it would work, but there are verified accounts with Twitter-style blue ticks (actually, the tick is usually white, but you know what I mean); could you use them as a guide?
I have no experience with Porn-hub , I don't really know how it works , financially I mean , for those inside the Industry , can't really say anything about this possible change.
But there's a but ,to continue our way so far wouldn't be really fair to those performers who actually distribute their stuff through it or promote it through it , if their content can't be promoted or even talked about we would be doing the very contrary the rule was meant to, it'll be damaging the performers instead of protecting them.
I also understand how difficult would be to write a rule allowing something but not really or even forbidding something but not really.
How can you select the content through a rule? how can we understand what's good from what's not? How can we protect or report those with malicious intent faking ignorance or misunderstanding to actually make available illegal content from those genuinely at loss?
Yes, exactly. That's the conundrum we're hoping to address.
I'm working on that part. I just learned a few minutes ago that PornHub has an API available. I've written to them to ask if they can make a small addition to their API which would indicate which videos are from verified content producers. I can write the link processor to make an API call to their servers essentially asking if the content is from a verified producer or just a regular user upload.
They use a few different icons on the video pages to indicate the kind of video. That's how members posting here would know if it's legit. A sample:
I've been thinking about this thread since I first saw it this morning and no matter what you guys ultimately decide. I doubt that everyone will be happy. Here are some points in no particular order.
1-Is there any chance that ADT can get in legal trouble if they allow links to any PH content?
If the answer is a yes then I think you should avoid it the same way that we avoid talking about prostitution.
2-Will allowing people to link PH content seriously increase the amount of moderating that each moderator has to do?
If the answer is yes, then is every moderator ready for the increase in work load and are they oaaky with it.
3-Will there be any financial return for ADT if you allow PH links?
If the answer is yes, then I know some will say that you guys are just looking to make money by allowing links to PH content but even if that is true then I certainly don't have a problem with that because ADT needs money to function and many of the old sources are starting to dry up(if they already haven't) and you need to find other sources. It's also very important to point out that even if we all believe that Tube Sites are the vilest of things. They are a reality that we can no longer brush over or discard because they aren't going away.
I have no problem with allowing links to PH content but I would much prefer that it only be used in cases where the poster is looking for the source material so that he/she can join/buy it.
No financial gain at all unless PornHub decided to become an advertiser here. (Which I think there's a snowball's chance in hell of that happening.)
The whole idea of maybe allowing links to PornHub is a response to PR reps attempting to link to legitimate content on PornHub for their clients. That's when I noticed that there's actually a legit use for PornHub. I had no idea it was anything more than the most popular outlet for stolen content.
I don't think there would be any problem with linking to the site. It may benefit you by creating a circular feedback loop, where fans, etc. may view pornhub and come back here to add an opinion on a new favourite adult film star or take a screen photograph from pornhub and then return on here to add and talk about. The sites where you can view free streaming is so prevalent, you can practically go anywhere by searching for it under google. You can't honestly believe that by not linking to those free streaming and video links, that the people viewing you're site haven't done so themselves. Unfortunately, that's the way the internet was created, as a free information, streaming, etc. site primarily for people to share and communicate for a monthly fee of course, with added technology you need to view. For most that are on a limited budget, they will not pay for your cheap or average adult video. It appears there is a widening gap of those that are probably rich enough to not care to pay for high quality videos, rather than searching for it, and then your average person that has no choice but to view it for free. I think that is where we are headed toward, whether you like it or not, you will not be able to stop it.
That doesn't mean you have to help perpetuate any of that.
Anyway, my opinion is, as much as I don't like Pornhub in general, there's more than enough legitimately posted content on the site that allowing links to it (especially if you can ensure that they were posted by verified accounts) should be allowed. I'm actually against "where can I find this content legitimately" links to videos, since most of the time it'll be used to find more illegitimate content than to actually direct someone to pay for what they just watched. Also, there's tons of other places online you can do that (including in the comments section on the videos), so this place doesn't need to be another place for that.

Thanks for all the feedback. Please keep it coming. From a financial perspective, some of our long-term advertisers are anti-pornhub and some have ties to pornhub. We were hoping to get some opinions from those who financially support this community.
Just to reply to your statement. I'm not in favor of going on the internet and obtaining free adult videos. I'm just saying that is a reality. If you think that not directly linking to a free streaming and video site will slow this process down, then you are denying reality. If you talk to anyone viewing adult videos, it seems they have a right to view it for free. There are hundreds of thousands or perhaps millions a day, viewing free streaming videos. This isn't like paying for a high qualify movie made by a hollywood studio. Very few care about supporting an adult film. Otherwise, why would theaters that use to show adult videos now be completely out of business The same happened when you could download any music for free, until they clamped down on that, although it still doesn't prevent listening to music elsewhere, downloading, or just listening to it on vivo youtube, etc. In just my own view, there is only one way in which adult streaming and videos will be profitable in the future. Those that have the wealth or are rich enough to purchase the ever increasing high quality adult content and on a smaller scale those that don't mind paying for a lower quality video. So they may watch a certain adult entertainer they have an interest in, or a particular streaming or video with a storyline or plot they are interested in viewing, etc. If you think a person in the bottom three quarters of the population that are on a limited budget or lower salary are willing to just pay for a streaming or video to view every month or so, then you are just denying economic reality right now or you don't understand what is currently going on in the USA. Right now, you will have a majority just willing to view low quality uploads on the internet, those that will pay for a favorite video or a few videos every so often, and those that are just so rich or have no economic concerns to care and will just pay for the original content outright.
I've used pornhub for amatuer performers i watch that use it as their main source of posting things outside of the manyvids/onlyfans etc, and some of the fetish performers i follow have pages there. I think if there's a way to prove that the link leads to/are from official pages i'd say go for it. Usually the official pages of companies post scenes that are about 7 minutes to highlight the scene. once in a while a performer posts a full scene (Mia Malkova has done this from time to time) So that may be a way to tell.
I feel compelled to question your language. "Free" implies the person copyright holder permitted for the content to be viewed/distributed in a certain format without payment. If the studio or individual's market strategy is to give its own content or part of its own content away for free or at no additional charge, I don't see an issue with that.
However, I assume your quarrel is actually with those who distribute content they don't have copyright for outside of the paywall it was intended to remain it and thus deny income to the rights holder when others download that content without paying those within the paywall.
There's a distinct different between viewing free content and viewing pirated/illegally distributed content. You probably shouldn't conflate the two.
yes, that is what I'm saying or I agree with you. You said it more succinctly that I ever could. If the adult industry was taken seriously, as large hollywood films are, there would be serious repercussions to anyone providing pirated adult streaming and video online. I'm assuming from what I know. Unless there comes a time when the adult industry is taken seriously, I don't think you will stop people viewing streaming or videos, just by not providing a link to those sites. It's honorable to believe to try and secure the business from a loss of compensation, but to think you're hindering or slowing down that process when you have thousands of new people viewing these sites every day, and millions continuing to do so, you are basically trying stop an oncoming hurricane at this point, as best as an example I could give.
PH would've been sued to oblivion if they did what they did to Hollywood studios. I think you should talk to studios who had to shut down due to rampant piracy. I would say allow PH_premium but no to regular PH because anyone can upload video with no ID, no 2257, no contact info.
^ I don't understand the rationale of your last sentence. Linking to external image hosts is permitted here regardless of them not having the record keeping required by USC 2257. What's the distinction?
^ I think his last sentence has more to do with PornHub's policies than ADT's policies. Essentially saying anything goes there and we shouldn't allow linking to such an environment. I don't necessarily agree with that sentiment which is why we're considering allowing links to PH.
Speaking of which, PH's tech support denied my API addition request. So at the moment I don't have a way to automate checking which videos are uploaded by content providers and which are uploaded by Joe Anonymous user. But I'm trying a different approach, we'll see if it works.
I've pretty much decided that we won't allow forum links to PH if there's no automated means of verifying the source material. I think if content producers that promote their stuff on PornHub were to contact them and insist that their videos are verifiable via the API it would be beneficial to everyone. (producers, Pornhub and affiliates promoting content on PH)
^&^^I think that many of the people in the industry who have a vested interest in anything to do with PH don't want to comment negatively for fear of retribution on the part of PH or more precisely Mindgeek who owns PH and most of the sites that these same people work for.
That is why I provided private feedback methods at the beginning of this topic

It is your site and you have to make those decisions to continue, it's your call and I have no problem with whatever happens.
However; as a reader this site can't have it both ways, so it has to be all or nothing.
What do I mean by that? All along we get bombarded ad nauseum about how tube sites/piracy are killing the industry, they're stealing content/taking money from producers, etc. Then on the other hand, we have shows like the Porn Hub awards and suddenly people who complain about piracy and tube sites are up on stage embracing the concept. (Yes I know they're getting paid and I'm speaking in broad strokes and not singling out anyone in particular)
So, what's it going to be? If you go with them, are you going to eliminate all negative talk about tube sites, or are you going to be pro Porn Hub and anti tube sites who aren't sponsors? The same with participants. Are you going to allow performers to post on the site who are anti tubers because they didn't get invited to the Hub awards and complain about piracy and how sites are stealing from them? Or are some of the more heavy handed moderators going to edit/censor them with the same distain and snippiness they show regular posters?
Then also, are they going to be paying more to offset the potential loss of other sponsors? I'm sure if they become your #1 sponsor and I don't see why they wouldn't as I know (if I were an sponsor) that I'd probably leave if it were in direct conflict with my interests. Now all of a sudden they are paying you X, and you've lost 10 other anti Hub sponsors, but they are your main source of income. What about creative control? What happens when they want some control over site content, editorial direction, and so on. Say they just signed James Deen or Stills By Alan (gotta change that name) to some sort of deal. Are you going to eliminate all negative talk about them and their alleged behavior and only promote their new project?
IMHO, these are the type of questions that you'll also have to decide on as you ponder the idea of Porn Hub and ones you have to answer also. Not to me, but to your business model. Again, your site, your call, and good luck deciding.
They only question I'm actually looking for an answer to is: Drew, what is it about Butters? Is it his sweet nature, or is it his secret identity Professor Chaos? (MUAH HA HA HA HA!)
Just want to be sure I'm clear in what you're saying. Are you saying that if we allow links to videos posted by verified PorhHub Content Partners that we will have to allow all links to all tube sites everywhere? That doesn't make any sense to me.
And just to make something very clear: PornHub is not a sponsor of this site and we do not anticipate PH ever becoming a sponsor. This decision and discussion is not financially driven and we've never represented it as such. Suggested hypotheticals about eliminating talk about X, Y or Z is a huge leap of the imagination.
PornHub is a legitimate content distribution platform for some content providers. We are exploring ideas for enabling those providers, their PR companies and their fans to promote such content in the ADT forum. That's what we're talking about allowing, nothing more.
If you allow the dirctors and stars to "authorize" certain videos to be allowed that might be OK. Of course, maintaining a database of authorized videos would probably be a fulltime nigjtmare for someone at ADT. Is even a list practical? Is allowing stars to authorize certain videos or their channel practical? I think it should be allowed, but I don't know how.

Fair enough. I misinterpreted the initial post. And, I was looking at the big picture a little further down the road based on my interpretation
Pornhub itself already has a system in place to "authorize" videos, as it were. They have verified users, and this is basically only allowed when the user is either the production company that produced the video, or the performers actually in the video (when they self-produce). The idea would be to only allow videos from verified users to be posted, which takes care of the authorization without ADT having to maintain any sort of database.
I don't know how to send you a private message, but I can send you a link to a "verified" blue check person on pornhub who I just submitted multiple DMCAs for posting stolen content.
Thanks. Your message helps me understand. The videos posted by that guy in your message to me would not have met my planned criteria.
It seems there is a difference between "Verified Members" and a "Videos of Verified Member". We're interested in the latter. It seems PH has some data about each individual video that they use to generate an icon along with the video title. If we could get this info via an API call I think it would maybe help distinguish legitimate content vs something else. Examples of videos that would be OK in the system I'm thinking of. I haven't done much research to see if this is a foolproof mechanism or not.
The blue video camera icon means a video from a "content partner," which means a member of the content partner program. You have to be a studio to get this icon.
The blue check mark just means a verified member. Anyone can get this by submitting a picture of him or herself holding a piece of paper with their user name and Pornhub written on it.
The issue is there doesn't seem to be an icon for the model payment program participants that is what the actual stars who self produce content for Pornhub nor is there a badge for official Pornhub productions.
It's not a different badge but it uses the same blue video camera icon for their productions.

I think it's about time considering you have performers who make partial bread out of fan tips and purchases. There's also pornhub stars that deserve attention in their own right(Danika Mori comes to mind). As I've said there needs to be a sophisticated fan-performer tip tribute system where the production companies get a cut. If this could be done and done well that would inject some new money into the industry.
There's been no progress on this. I don't expect there will be anytime soon. We won't be allowing links to PornHub until we have a means to automatically verify the content.
I think your approach is the prudent course of action. While many content providers on Pornhub are labeled as 'Verified Amateurs", this is exactly how"amateurs" were labeled in the VHS days, when porn COMPANIES produced content they labeled as "amateur".
Besides, the mechanics of accurately determining such content is difficult if not impossible. I am a developer by trade, this is not an easy problem.
If they would add it to an API call it would be easy to verify on-the-fly. But I'll eventually write something that scrapes the page content and looks for the appropriate markers for verification.
Maybe I'm in left field on the entire subject but I can't help feel that it's against PH interest to have any kind of tool that will quickly confirm that the content on their site is from a legal source as opposed to an illegal one because the business model of tube sites is to make money from any content and since most of it is likely from a source that doesn't want it on any other platform than their own then it stands to reason that a confirmation tool will cost PH more money than it can make them.
Just tiny bit in left field. We're not trying to automatically make a determination of legality. I hope I didn't imply that was the goal. We're trying to verify/authenticate the source. There's a significant difference.
Joe Anonymous User could upload something that's completely legal but he didn't create it. We wouldn't want to link to Joe's video. The goal is to allow links to videos that were uploaded by the content creator to support their efforts.
What's the stance on Modelhub? I believe the only videos on there are from verified PH models. It's basically an equivalent to Manyvids, which I've seen linked to on this site.
