^Here's why your suggestion that they should start to loosen the social distancing is a terrible idea.

1-Actual testing for the virus in the US is beyond pathetic so that no one and that includes every single expert knows how many people are infected.

2-At this moment every piece of information is guess work. For some it is highly educated guess work but it is still guess work and a large part for that is because of reason #1.

3-The infection curve is a lot like a roller-coaster in that if the States were better prepared for it then their curve will be smaller but it will still go up until it reaches it's peak before it goes back down and if people don't keep doing the social distancing on going down curve then it will be as steep as the one going up or it can be much worse since the medical staff who have been dealing with all the cases up to now will be even more drained and tired from those first few weeks and more prone to getting infected. What do you do when you don't have any nurses or doctors to treat patients because they are sick?

The simple truth is that you can't throw money at the virus. You can't reason with it. You can't pray it away. You have to starve it and the only way to do that is to limit the amount of people who will get infected over a short period of time. The only example we have of how bad it can be is the Spanish Flu of 1918 and we are talking about a time when travel was still very limited and there was a lot less population. Those who forget history is are doomed to repeat it.

^You're obviously right about the lack of testing.

As for the guesswork, there is some data that should be available that could help. We should have some idea what the hospitalization rates are, both nationally and locally. What is our ICU utilization rate? Yes, we should be trying to test more people, but I don't think we can wait for 327 million Americans to get tested.

Among identified cases, I would really like to see a detailed breakdown of the data across locality, occupation, age, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and on and on. This doesn't seem to be available but I do hope someone is trying to put it together.

I don't agree that we can simply starve the virus. I don't think that's even possible. Are we going to keep everything shut down for 18 months? Surely not. What if the virus mutates and another strain starts making it's way through the population 2 years from now? Are we we going to shut everything down again?

There is new scenes being released rather quickly once shot these days. They have to keep a log of production dates for the scenes, right? This will show who is shooting pre, during, and post corona?

^^

The problem is that if we try to start up too fast, we just end up with a second wave of cases that is just as bad as the first. No, we don't necessarily have to keep everything locked down for 18 months, but until we get to a better place both in terms of testing and in terms of having the supplies we need at hospitals to deal with the sick, the best thing to do for public safety is to keep everything closed. At some point things will start to open up, but it's gonna have to be done really slowly, and with the expectation that there will be setbacks that may mean we have to shut everything down again.

The lack of data is really frustrating. But even if we had good data, there doesn't seem to be any agreed upon criteria for when we should open things up again.

Starvation isn't an absolute so it is categorically possible. Starvation only needs for something to be given less than the minimum to keep it in good stead, by definition it does not mean depriving something entirely of nutrition.

As Pat said, if you reduce the rate of short-term infections by isolation and delaying its spread, you don't overwhelm medical services and make it more feasible to reduce the death rate.

Your proposal of building a herd immunity bulwark has a fundamentally flawed assumption that it is applicable to coronavirus as it is still unknown whether people are actually immune to reinfection when they recover, especially as there isn't an effective vaccine yet. Recovery doesn't necessarily mean you're back to normal either as there are documented cases where patients lose a significant amount of their lung function.

^I think herd immunity is ultimately what will happen because the virus is certainly not going to die on it's own. It's just that over time those who get infected and survive will be joined with the people who get a vaccine but it will take time. Sadly most Americans simply don't know how bad it is because their source of information is lying to them. As of yesterday the actual amount of testing for the virus in the US was 0.7%. That's barely more than 2 millions. Even the people who have taken a test may not even know if they are infected because they still haven't received the result.

^Sorry if I wasn't clear but I'm talking in terms of months and not days or weeks. Hopefully within the next 18 months or so enough people will either have received a vaccine or will be part of the people who survived the virus but unless the majority of the population has the necessary antibodies than this virus will be just as deadly.

Not entirely true. The more money that gets poured into research allowing more teams to work on research will likely (yes likely nothing is guaranteed) lessen the time frame. From all I have read, we have to keep up some sort of pattern of social distancing until a vaccine is discovered to work, especially since it appears that people can get COVID-19 a second time.

^True but you're referring to investing more money in the research which I completely agree with but I was implying that you shouldn't throw money at it. I fear that the current people in power are throwing money at the problem and when you do that then it often winds up in the wrong place. I mean the US was offered a very good test in January and yet the people in power decided to throw money at US companies instead and that was an abject failure until fairly recently. I mean it was only yesterday or the day before that Doctor Birx mentioned that 80% of testing machines weren't working.

The only way to eliminate Covid-19 is for all humans to develop the antibodies to fight it which hopefully will gradually happen over the next year or so. It will likely never truly disappear but like other flu viruses. We will build our immune system to fight it like we have done with previous viruses.

I think we can all agree that the porn industry should be sanctioned to be the very first to reopen when this all starts to wrap up. /joke 😄
But to be serious, with the testing regimen they already have access to, I wouldn't be surprised if they did return to normal sooner than the rest of us.

Looks like Jane Wilde is the first to do "work from home" porn for EvilAngel. I'm assuming they'll have more of this.
Porn From Home - Jane Wilde

Vertical video seems like a strange choice. I wonder if this is just content she had already made or if they directed her in some way. Would be great to get more professionally produced solo scenes during all this (or as professional as possible). But I haven't seen any decent examples yet. This seems like the usual selfmade stuff.

^ Is it just me or have we had a run of these sort of flu viruses over the past decade or so, getting gradually more nasty and easier to transmit. It seems that you sort one out and you just get a mutation that's even worse. Across the globe we've got to develop health care strategies to get on the front foot with these things when they come along.

^ As a species, we're too numerous and too densely populated in today's urbanized world. That's the reason so many novel viruses have spread over the past decade. They always existed, but in today's world, they spread more quickly and insidiously than at any prior time in human history.

The real danger from these novel viruses is not so much the viruses themselves, as it is the hard fact that we cannot prevent an outbreak of something like this until it's already too late. A real killer could spread faster than we are able to understand it, and by the time we realized the danger, it would already be everywhere. I think the true lasting impact of COVID-19, once the economic effects have worn off, will be a sobering cultural and scientific acceptance of that fact.

The US is reluctant to adopt measures at federal-level because it hurts economics, so they leave it to the states.
If you look at EU as a collection of states, it's not really that different.

The only countries that have adopted blanket, federal measures, of the same size as the US, are kinda dictatorships.

It's deeply disappointing that the politicians don't just step aside and let the scientists and doctors lead the conversation about this. Biden, Trump, et al, should not have an opinion.

Not sure what you mean about the EU, the countries of Europe are in lockdown as well.

There is no other democracy the size of the US so I'm not sure what you meant in the comment about dictatorships; there's nothing to compare the US to at that size except for the dicatorship in China, who didn't handle it at all well actually.

What I was noting is that the US is the only Western democracy that seems to have a political opposition pushing for a return to business before the health crisis is over. The US' response has been far slower than any other country from what I have seen.

^ Sorry to go off topic, but India's federal election poll actually goes over six weeks.

India election 2019...

"The world's largest ever election has started in India, with voters in 20 states casting their ballots in the first phase of a marathon six-week poll.

The contest in the vast country of 1.3 billion people..."

"India's phased election process allows federal security personnel to be shuttled around the country to secure the integrity of a contest involving up to 900 million eligible voters, more than the next five largest democracies combined."

The Chinese were the one country who had the capacity to stop this thing before it threatened the rest of the world, by quarantining Wuhan early and swiftly. They didn't do that.

^ I think hindsight's a wonderful thing. If they realised at the time that it was as nasty an illness as it is they possibly would have done. None of the 'western' countries had that excuse but many dithered and just acted far too slowly. Let's be honest, how many countries would be unhappy to get to where the Chinese are now a couple of months down the road?

That's what he wrote.
He meant it's more appropriate to compare the entire united states, to all of europe.

If you think of each state as a country upon itself, you will see that each state adopted different responses at different timelines, no different from many countries in europe, where there were also disagreements on the response.

On one hand, you have a country such as Hungary, that went into lockdown, travel bans, and contact tracing, almost immediately.
Countries like the UK, Switzerland, and Sweden, did have political and scientific opposition to a lockdown, only for the UK and Switzerland to change course after seeing their numbers spike.

Federally, the office of the president has not initiated a country-wide lockdown, although there are significant travel bans. Likewise, the European Commission and the European Council, have not forced an EU-wide stay-at-home-order.

^ That's rubbish. There was no scientific or political opposition to a lockdown in the UK. Absolutely none. You are completely misrepresenting what happened. You really ought to just concentrate on what you do know about......the US....without trying to get crumbs of comfort from other countries that you don't know the real facts about. You should also note that the European Commission has absolutely no power or even authority to even suggest a lockdown across the whole EU.

Pitbull, why are you so combative?

Blacksix wrote about how no other countries are as polarized as the US. Fit18 presented the thought that if you more aptly compared the europe as a whole, to the US (because of their geographical size, populations, GDP, etc, most likely), you can see european countries having wildly different approaches, most evidently in neighbours Sweden and Denmark. It wasn't a point of debate, just adding to the discussion.

Regarding the lockdown in the UK, you are wrong:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/uk-coronavirus-herd-immunity/2020/03/16/1c9d640e-66c7-11ea-b199-3a9799c54512_story.html
Both Johnson, and Patrick Valance tried to avoid a lockdown and instead tried herd immunity, which was heavily criticized.

Ummm, no, China actively hid how extensive and dangerous this illness was. I read an article comparing China's response to Covid-19 to Russia's response to Chernobyl. Not only did Russia not tell its neighbouring countries; it didn't even tell its own people.

^I recommend you check the below link because it will give you a far better idea of the actual timeline of the virus. You can accuse China of being negligent when it comes to wet markets and this is one of those things that they will have to fix but you can't say that they didn't take this seriously once they realized what they had on their hands. They just didn't know that it was a new virus.

Let's get something straight......I live in the UK and don't rely on one newspaper article to tell me what's going on! The Washington Post article in any case completely contradicts the argument that there was dissent over whether we should have a lockdown, it shows that, if anything, people wanted it sooner and that is something that was widely discussed.

The UK Government has largely put it's trust in the scientific community and the national strategy has been directly informed by the chief scientific and medical officers. The UK strategy was always to go through a period of 'containment' where the hope was to keep the virus in check by tracking down the people who had been in contact with known cases and with anyone thinking they may have it to self-isolate. They were always up-front about lockdown being in the second phase of the nation's response so to paint this as some kind of U-turn is completely wrong. In fact, what one of the previous posters was saying about Trump and Biden staying out of things and leaving it to the scientists is pretty much what's happened in the UK. The Government has tried for and has largely got a nationwide consensus on the strategy over here in terms of lockdown.

Just in case you think I'm some sort of apologist for the UK Government, well you'd be a long way off the mark. Some horrendous things have happened over here which I blame them for: Running down the NHS over the past 10 years so that we are less-able to cope with crises like these (we have similar issues annually with normal Winter flu); the abject failure in getting appropriate protective clothing for our health workers so that significant numbers of them are dying from the virus and the lack of ability in getting any sort of coherent national testing programme going.

Why so combative? I have little real idea about what is happening in the US but am truly saddened by what is obviously being endured by many US citizens, especially in the wonderful city of New York. In making sense of what is happening over there you really need to focus on what is going on round you instead of looking for simple comparisons with Europe which are just not valid.

Stay safe.

Nicely done. You quote a dated article that was taken completely out of context and you pass it off as fact when you presumably hadn't experienced what went on in the UK.

I too am from the UK and as Pitbull67 said, the government contemplated allowing exposure to build a herd immunity but the delay phase i.e. the lockdown was always the plan but it didn't want to clamp down too heavily as it wanted to trust people to act responsibly and take the initiative to stay at home. The government stepped this up eventually and instructed people to stay at home when so many idiots didn't take the advice seriously enough and treated the weekend schools were closed like a public holiday.

First, I'd like to virtually pat you all on the back for your efforts to be more scholarly in this matter.
On the subject of Data, It is true that scientists lack data on THIS particular virus. However, they have a plethora of data on SARS-cov, MERS-cov, and other strands of human coronavirus.
Just do a simple Google Scholar search and see for yourself.
Why does this matter?
In the world of the pathology, usually the only way distinguish between different strands of a virus is in its genetic code. Their protein coat structure, shape and appearance are all virtually the same throughout the class of virus. (For any of you that may have taken Biochem, I'm sure you learned one thing about protein and that is "Shape dictates function!")

Long story short, Scientists are using the data they have on other coronavirus strands to justify the response to the Covid-19 virus because they are all so similar.

The good news is that all coronavirus strands are relatively easy to deactivate using simple sanitation techniques. Washing hands, sanitizing surfaces, applying heat to contaminated objects and so on. (I recently found a study from a scientist in France who found that less than .1% of his original inoculation of SARS-cov was still infectious after applying only 150 degrees F in a neutral PH solution for 5 minuts) This is no "Super bug" by any pathologists standards.

However, what makes it so resilient is its ability to stay infectious in an open air environments for extended periods of time, coupled with a fairly low infectious dose needed to become a problem for the average immune system. I also found a study that presented evidence to suggest SARS can remain active up to 9 days on wood, 6 days on steel and 10 days on cotton masks! those numbers are pretty staggering for an RNA virus which usually are rendered inactive because of genetic damage through normal atmospheric variables (sunlight, temperature, etc.)

On the subject of herd immunity as a viable strategy: I don't wish to offend, but It's a pipe dream to believe herd immunity can be used in this situation without catastrophic amounts of life lost. If you want to use Spanish flu as an example, it circled the globe 3 times in one year before it waned. That was without an effective strategy to "flatten the curve" which prolongs herd immunity even longer. But even if we were to drop everything and get back to work now, by the time herd immunity would begin to take effect we will also have a vaccine. And we WILL have a vaccine, I assure you.

On the subject of Mutations, We are lucky that this virus mutates relatively slow compared to others were familiar with. RNA virus do have a high error rate of replication and I remember a study that found a strain of Influenza spreading through a population was observed mutating more than 40 times a single week in Europe. Fortunately this Virus has only been observed mutating at about half that rate. Just to be clear these are single nucleotide replacement mutations. A result of a singled nucleotide error during replication.
They are generally insignificant and typically do not change the nature of the virology of the strain but can be used to trace its origins. That's not to say it couldn't happen but i would be careful using those mutation numbers as a frame of reference to judge its adaptability.

The problem has been our governments are ill prepared for these types of outbreaks due to population density, mobility, and the nature of bureaucracy. There is paradox once the pandoras box is opened in democratic "free" society in that these outbreaks require complete mobilization and immobilization at the same time to allow for testing and contact tracing to stop it in its tracks. And its baffling to me that in the one situation were the Federal government and its leaders have reason and means to completely centralize power our leader has chosen to relinquish all power and therefore his culpability.

On the subject of China, I would not assume their numbers are accurate at all, or that they are "out of the woods." Also we cannot afford in the future to be PC policed and disregard the danger inherent in Chinese "wet markets." or this will most certainly keep happening.

There's no way it's a good idea to ease the lockdown because number might be tapering off.. because even if they are decreasing as they may appear to be, that may well be attributable to lockdown. So easing the lockdown will likely just make more people ill and more people die again.

It's like in movies sometimes where someone is hiding, and they literally come out of hiding as soon as the pursuer has passed by.. and I'm just watching thinking "that's too soon bro! In real life you stay hidden for a damn good while after they gone you don't just pop up as soon as he passed by".. you gotta' stay in hiding until the threat is long gone.

Now what I do think would be a really cool idea, is if some of those lovely booty babes/anal addicts/backdoor beauties etc. would start doing some lovely nicety (nasty but nice) solo dildo scenes, fuck machine stuff man that'd be awesome. Going solo is a different kinda' scene y'know.. she's the director in a sense, sometimes the solo scenes have positions/angles that you don't often see in the studio productions.. can be very hot if done well.

And yeah sure the non-anal babes too I'm just selfishly specifying my interest that's all..

^ Sorry to contradict you but right from the very first post of this thread it's been more about 'lockdown' and 'coronavirus' than 'porn'. Given that the thread is 'porn lockdown coronavirus' and that the person who started it off didn't even mention 'porn' in his original post, I think what people have been discussing is very much on-topic. The fact that people are focusing on what they are is perhaps an indication that, in these desperate times, there are things even more important than porn than need discussing and if there's more than one thread discussing aspects of it, well its that important. I think the discussion on here is lively and informative and given all the above I feel people should be able to post about any part of the issue they wish.

In Italy too, but it's mostly them trying to show they're still alive and that they are alternative to the Government , they didn't want to close at first and invited people to go out , then after the first partial lockdown they howled it wasn't enough and pressured for more , now tha it's more they're pressuring to reopen, basically they just counter the Goverment no matter what, there's nothing else they can do right now

China jailed the doctors who first warned them about the virus and their current clains are completely unreliable.

How many former performers do you think will come back to shooting porn after the lockdown ends?

People are still shooting scenes, they are getting around it with Onlyfans and other social media sites, girls are camming with other girls coming to their homes or guys, lower budget sites are shooting less popular girls, some popular girls are doing shooting stuff for other non porn companies outside or actual well known porn companies.

Reading this forum, sometimes I get the impression that most people expect things to get back to normal in a few weeks, and everything is going to be exactly like before the crisis, like in those movies where time is reversed and it's like it never happened. I don't even expect the Vixen group sites to go back to a 5 day release schedule whenever they will be able to shoot again. I think we'll have to get used to... less porn. There are no "the pandemic is over" scenarios, short term (and I mean, several months at least).

Maybe it's me reading too much between the lines, or that I'm too worried about the situation to sympathize with some requests to performers or porn producers. I guess it's a good thing to keep this interaction going between fans and performers/producers, even though some exchanges are a bit... I don't know... quixotic.

You realize that you can replace the India portion with United States and Modi with Trump and your statement is just as accurate.
