^^ I agree with the first paragraph. Because nobody has been in this situation before, I think some people create this idealized and romanticized scenario that the porn industry will get back to normal quickly when there's no obvious end in sight for the lockdown to be lifted. Perhaps those expectations are set based on what happens when there's a moratorium over an STD outbreak (even though they're not comparable)? I'd be surprised if even the porn industry is immune to the effects of the economic impact of coronavirus that I still don't think have been fully realized yet.

I'm not sure many people think things are going to get back to 'normal' soon. When things start to normalise it will be 'essential' businesses and factories that come first with sport, the arts, porn much later. Discussing scenes and requests for the future does seem a bit dumb at this current time but at the same time, a bit like porn is in normal times, this is a bit of an escape from reality......and perhaps contributes to keeping some of us sane!!

^Even if things start to get sort of normal toward the end of May. Will the people who normally pay for porn have any money to spend on porn when they need it to pay for the essentials? I've been home since the beginning of April and my company thinks that I won't be back until May 4. That's a month without a salary. Most sites are offering great deals right now but if I don't have the money then I can use them and all those great deals means that the sites are making less money as well.

If May becomes June who becomes July then how much worse will it be?

Man, I live in India and let me tell you we are a functional democracy..
In fact look at the people who died because of covid-19 in our country u'll get the idea. People are voluntarily appreciating lockdown.. Modi government is far more effective than congress, they lack leadership, though government failed to solve the problems of migrant workers.. But they are working on it
Actually Indian politics is pretty much complex, religion plays a vital role in India that's why some people use minority and majority card here and there (Indian minority is 20% of population and in 8 states they are majority by numbers so people use it like communist, anarchist to brainwash and join bad things)

A functional democracy where the PM cant even address a single press conference and answer difficult questions? Yeah right.Lets be clear going to vote doesn't mean you are a functional democracy.North Korea votes too. There is a whole lot about democracy that it seems to me people simply don't understand.Your courts are not independent nor your press.

No, Indian politics is getting more polarised like the way it is in US. Media is also have become polarised like the way it is in US but it is far better as a democracy comparative to other countries in Asia. one need to understand India is a very big problem we are going through geopolitical problems all the time. Anti modi media trying to blame govt. For every wrong thing.. They have taken some dump decisions but still better.. Than congress

What is anti-Modi media? Why doesn't he take questions like every democratically elected leader does all over the world. Its been 6 years now.Can you show me any press conference he has held and questions he has taken on his policy decisions and answered them? Any links?

I mean sure every democracy will have its fault but surely a pre requisite of a democracy is the leader answering the press.Have you seen that happen in your country these last 6 years?

But anyway its a porn thread.

How many years before more Indian girls start doing porn mate? Perhaps the coming recession will do that all over the world .Loads of cultural changes could be seen due to this CoVid-19 pandemic.

This is going to a post 1929 scenario ,possibly worse , ba ch then the level of indebtment was far more lower than today , Many Countries could put money through indebtment with very few concequences plus the economies were way less intermixed between countries and there was a real need to further industrialize and improve every infrastructure , today not so much .

it's going really bad, china still can't see this but they're those going to pay the more for this , all those low techonolic jobs are going to come back , we'll do anything to give some work to do to make a living to our starving population

porn will be the last of the least of our problems

Look, I'm not here defend him mate.. But he is comparatively best what we have.. Do you know about Dr. Manmohan singh? He is known for his silence he was also a puppet of Congress family (Gandhi). Parties behavior or actions or whatever you call it does not define country's political economy it is define by memorandum/constitution of such country.. And whether you are pro or anti of some party/person is not a new thing for media it depends on where they stand in political spectrum(like CNN VS FOX) . On this topic one more thing is that India does not have presidential democracy but parliamentarian.. So what cabinet (parliament) think is more important
Now come to your remark on Indian girls. I really find it derogatory and racist because it's an independent choice of a girl what profession she wants to pursue. Your statement:
1. Trying to portray Indians are culturally backward (as I do not find any need to mention cultural in your post) just because Indians girls are less in numbers in porn
2. All those Indians, Sri lankans, Pakistanis, or from any country living in US maybe DOING SOME OTHER WORK that's why they are less in number in porn BECAUSE NOT ONLY GIRLS HOW MANY INDIAN BOYS ARE THERE IN PORN? it's very individual choice and nothing to do with culture
Sorry if my words hurt someone but there is no meaning to compare culture with porn I guess...

Love your way of thinking.
Also want to add one thing economy is also affected by the consumer behavior (pessimist, optimistist) like the recession came in 2008 several studies indicate that (mckinsey article) our psychology also have great impact on economy I feel different countries will feel different impacts of coming recession based on this.
And I feel asking reparations to China would create another Hitler as situation is much worse in China..

No argument from me. I genuinely think coronavirus's impact on the economy will make the Great Recession look like a walk in the park by comparison. I won't be surprised if we see some porn studios become insolvent.

^More than likely because that was purely an economic depression centered on mostly US stock market. In many ways so was the 2008 market crash but this time around it's all centered on a pandemic affecting the world. How long will it take for people to want to travel for business or pleasure? How long (if ever) will people want to go on a cruise? Will people flock back to Disney theme parks any time soon? Will they flock back to any theme park any time soon? Who is going to go back to a theater to watch a movie or a play in the next year? How about restaurants, sporting events?

In the 1929 Great Depression people lost money. In the 2008 Great Recession it was mostly money that was lost but in this pandemic. It's not just money but lives that are being lost on a daily basis and it's not stopping or slowing down. We still have no idea when it will slow down or let alone stop. How many dead will we have by the time we know everything we need to know to control the virus? These dead aren't going to come back to help the economy. They won't be able to buy anything. The money they generated from the taxes they paid won't be there to help rebuild the economy. I mean at this moment people are concentrating on the number of dead people due to the virus but the other diseases aren't waiting backstage to make an appearance. People are still dying from cancer, heart disease, diabetes and any other diseases. In fact we may find out that more people died from those diseases because they couldn't get the proper care.

How many doctors, nurses, nurses aides and anybody else associated with health care industry will die before the pandemic is under control? Who can replace these people when there were already shortages?

P.S: I agree that it wouldn't surprise me to see some studios not survive. I suspect most of them will be in serious financial trouble long before the industry gets back on it's feet.

You make a good point...sure, a lot of adults have a lot more time on their hands nowadays because of the lockdown, but I doubt there's been an uptick in porn viewing, or, more specifically, an increase in sales for pay-porn sites. If anything, there's probably been an increase in tube site traffic (i.e. PornHub), while pay-porn sites are seeing sales decrease.

^Yeah. I agree. Porn viewing must be through the roof but actual membership must be down and we are talking about a time when most sites have significantly dropped their join prices. I fear that won't change in a positive way for the industry. Less and less people will want to pay for what many sites will have to use to fill in for their regular updates so that will mean even less money coming in.

Let's not forget that wives and companions are staying at home too not to mention children, thus making difficult for porn consumers to indulge in their habit or better yet there's no need of porn when you have a living woman near you 24H for several days and not many things to do to kill some time

My guess is, a lot of people who don't usually watch much porn are now doing so, and that's probably a bigger proportion compared to people who usually do buy porn but have cut back. On the upside, if they're going to PornHub as a free user, at least they're indirectly and directly encouraged to buy stuff from performers.

India... having traveled there a few time and read up on things, my understanding is that it is a totally functioning solid democracy without question, Modi is a bit like Trump, but Indian governance is also structured very differently to the US. I don't just mean the parliamentary system. Where the EU is a collection of different countries and cultures united by a common currently (apparently less enthusiastically these days), India is similar but even more intensely, by orders of magnitude. And it is united not just by a common currency but by a common foreign policy. It is not really comparable to the US style of democracy and federalism.

Regarding the Porn industry, I think the same will happen to many companies as will happen in any other U.S. business sector in the coming months. Long story made short... the little guy looses. Bigger, more resilient companies survive with less competition afterward. Larger companies may provide more stability, but they are also more apt to take advantage of their power and influence. It is the nature of capitalism.

Many U.S. based companies (who ironically are not even technically based in U.S. to avoid taxes) we let get so big over the past few decades that we can't even afford to let them fail. We all continue to suffer under the mentality of trickle down economics and if you thought it was getting pretty ridiculous pre-covid, just wait until the encore.

I am a mystified to the porn lock down when you consider the performers have to have tests against sexually transmitted diseases, HIv etc before they can act.
These tests are only as good as the day they were taken.
Covid 19 tests are the same but it is more likely and easier to catch it from a stranger in the street the day after a test than a STD but they do work in a closed community and if they keep to it they should be safe.

^ Actually no, porn performers categorically do not work in a closed community so your rationale that they would be safe is fundamentally flawed.

There are porn performers whose sexual partners are not industry performers and thus not within the community required to have negative test results before engaging in sexual activity.

Is there a reason why you haven't mentioned the makeup artists, the filming crew or the editing crew, all of which groups create further paths of transmission, straying well away from the "closed community" you speak of.

The porn lockdown is only mystifying if you maintain a shortsighted view of the industry and the stigma it faces with infections of any kind.

^That and the fact that Covid-19 isn't a sexually transmitted disease so comparing it to that tends to make his argument null.

^I'm highly curious to know what philosophical disagreement you can have with a pandemic that has already killed 177,000 people worldwide of which 45,000 are in the US. The US may reach as many as 100,000 dead before the end of the summer.

The only good statistics the US will likely have in 2020 due to Covid-19 are less dead from car accidents and school shootings. The first because less people are driving and the second because schools are closed. Otherwise those current 45,000 dead will be added to the dead from all other diseases and viruses. How many Americans will die not from getting infected but because the hospitals where they could get treated were overloaded with all the patients infected with the virus?

@pat362

You let people die. If people want to take the risks, you let them. If people want to isolate, you let them. If some people are worried about being put at risk unwillingly by other people, too bad for them.

It sounds harsh, but that's how the world has been operating. I'd love to see every death in every country, tallied, categorized and reported on in big bold headlines every single day 24/7-nothing but. What a wad of panties that would be.

Personally, I'm relatively risk averse, and, like most people, I choose my risks on my own terms. So, I'm not about to do one of those crazy-kid COVID challenges like lick a public doorknob or toilet seat...because I never would. I drive carefully and defensively. I chill out in countries where people don't wear seatbelts as much. I wash my hands even pre-COVID and don't question whether the other person did when I shake their hands, because I'll take that risk. I'll go in a pool and trust that other people don't have explosive diarrhea or tapeworm or whatever else. I hate Ferris wheels, they seem like death traps. Some people like them. I don't give a shit if other people smoke, even though I don't. Maybe that affects my insurance premiums, but I don't care. Some people don't like it when others smoke. I avoid rough neighborhoods, others don't mind the risks I perceive. And so on.

COVID... No, I'm not arguing with the numbers.

I heard an economist, who opposes all these lockdowns, reply to an estimate of the number of deaths that an unrestricted coronavirus would create, by saying no one is estimating the number of deaths and severely impacted lives that all these lockdowns will create.

They went on to say it sounds harsh, but when governments make decisions like which drugs and medications to subsidize, they do so based on estimates of which decisions would cost the least lives.

^ I think there's a lot of thought going into that. Is it going to get reported on properly by CNN, Fox, MSNBC or other junk-news outlets? No. The Atlantic? NPR? Nope and nope. YouTube videos or Facebook, no because they're explicitly and transparently censored on stuff like that. Academic journals, long-winded industry publications and white papers? Yeah. What a joy to find and read through those for the general public.

Edit for clarification

Somehow it's mostly just Republicans (and if we are being honest rich Republicans) talking about letting people die from Covid-19 because they claim the economy is more important than human lives. They are welcome to that point of view but unless I see them helping in hospitals, retirements homes or volunteering in food banks and what not then they are full of shit because they think their lives are more important than money.

^^^"You let people die. If people want to take the risks, you let them. If people want to isolate, you let them. If some people are worried about being put at risk unwillingly by other people, too bad for them"

so with this philosophy do you agree with banning anything just because its risky? I mean... why don't we legalize all narcotics/ banned substances? You wanna bar fight? that should be your right! you wanna base jump off a skyscraper? you should be able to and more power to you!

Listen, some of the stuff you said I agree with. Like seat-belts, or helmets even. there's plenty of examples of government overstepping personal freedom under the guise of "saving lives," and in those cases people should be able to make up their own minds. But when talking about accepting risk from a virus what you and so many others fail to understand is:
Its not all about you!

sure you may be willing to accept the risk, but others that you are prone to infect might not want to accept that same risk. I agree with banning risky shit when it will effect not just you, but those around you. You may very well have the right philosophy, during normal times, when it comes to excepting daily risks you take "on your own terms" as you so eloquently put it.
But this is not normal times if you get infected and infect others in turn, you are negating any terms they might have had regarding their own risk assessment.

In the U.S. we believe in individual liberty right up to the point were it directly hinders the rights of others and that is exactly what you are doing when you choose to "accept thee risk" and "let people die"

the philosophical/political opinions surrounding this whole pandemic are really telling about many things but we should all take some time and consider:
Is the haircut more important than the barber?
It the economy as a whole more important than a large portion of the population?
Is party loyalty more important than the institution itself?
Do you truly care about others? or just yourself?
Do you believe in what your saying?
or do you like just like to hear yourself talk?

^ And how this gets back to porn is, there's a 'shit ton' (as I continue to eloquently put it) of people like me-like it or not, and they exist in some areas of porn. I say that due to the wondering-aloud on this thread about why some people are still shooting who are not live-in couples. I don't expect to change any minds with my philosophy, and I wouldn't waste your apparently valuable COVID breath trying to change mine. Don't misread my tone. I'm a really nice person.

"If some people are worried about being put at risk unwillingly by other people, too bad for them."

My parents teached me that my freedom ends where the freedom of someone else begins. If someone doesn't care about putting other people at risk, he's abusing of his freedom at the expense of others.

performers are at risk as everybody else I think, and those who don't have symptoms could be even more dangerous. Then of course, if they are tested it's another matter.

that is the whole issue here with this thing. It isn't just *you* who is at risk. it's the people you are around. This isn't the same as a harmless vice. And that is why porn, has largely shut down. It's not just performers choosing to take a risk, anyone else in the vicinity becomes at risk. then everyone they are around later, etc etc. it is responsible to shut down the industry to prevent spreading.

Just to get one thing straight, as someone who helps run a largish business, plus one very small porn business, there's no way in hell I want people coming in to work. In general people are too traumatized. I can look at them and disagree, but that doesn't change the reality of it. For some people, it's like a nuclear bomb just hit. Carrying on like nothing's happened is like not giving someone time off when a family member dies. Now, I know at least a few people in the sex biz (who have no connection to Big Porn Industry), and they're happy working, and I'm happy for them to work, and so...so, yeah. But I keep it quiet locally to me. If I'm talking to a friend on Sunday who just got back from a funeral the night before, and they ask me what I did last night, I'm not going tell them I had a great, wonderful time while they were at the funeral. If someone's going to freak out because I'm not wearing a stupid mask, then yes, I'm going to wear a mask around them (which has never happened, but if it did). People want six feet in Whole Foods while I buy my spinach, I give them six feet.

Make love, not war!
