Since no one is actually going to answer the question: Based on the avg pay rates for scenes, you have $400 or so for solo scenes, $600 for g/g, and $1000 for b/g scenes, and that goes up depending on the act in the scene. So assuming the avg girl does a few scenes of each per month she might make around $3600 to $4000 per month, that's not including cam shows and escorting, which they virtually all do on the side. So including those revenue streams plus cost of living in LA and the superfluous purchases they make in a given month including purses and shoes, their net income is around $60,000 per year. And of course top girls will make far more.
Your numbers may be correct but it wouldn't surprise me that they are less than that. Let's say for argument sake that your are right. I'll use 3600$ as the amount. First she has to pay her manager. Let's use 10% but I suspect that it's a higher percentage than that. So 10% or 3600 is 360$ so she now has only 3240$. No clue what rent is in Los Angeles but let's say 1600$ per month for a modest apartment so she now has only 1640$. Let's say she spends about 100$ per week on food so now she's down to 1240$. There's a good chance that she owns a car that she's still paying for so let's say 200$ per month so she's now left with 1040$. She has to have an up to date test so let's make it 100$. She now has only 940$ of the original 3600$. I suspect that my math was way off on most of the cost and she has significantly less money than 940$. To make things worse. I don't think the bulk of girls are shooting that much porn so the gross amount is not going to be as high as 3600$.

Interesting. As for the top girls, Bree Olson, in a Twitter q&a, answered thst she was a millionaire. Which might be possible for a top performer who avoids becoming a hardc0re drug addict and does not get ripped off by financial adviors and managers.
bree is on the cover of this months us playboy which would of landed her a huge payday not often playboy goes with a cover girl that has done dozens of hardcore anal scenes lol
I wonder how many DVD's are being released a year compared to a few years ago ? I often think that if a porn star had a website where users could make a small Payapl donation they could do quite well.

Production is down from about 200 scenes a day being shot in Los Angeles to around 50 scenes a day. There are currently about active 600 performers (those being tested every month) down from around 1,300 to 1,500. Rates have fallen but not by much, this is one of the many reasons the decrease in production. The main reason rates have stayed at their previous levels is that some agencies refuse to lower their rates. Rates truly do vary based upon the popularity of the performers, looks, time in business etc... On "Average" Boy/Girl is $700 to 1,200, Girl/Girl $300 to $700, Blowjob $200 to $500. The average model works four to eight times per month.

^ Average rates. The rates haven't fallen as much as the number of scenes a girl is able to do. Companies have left the adult industry and will continue to leave because it is very, very hard to make a profit in production these days.
See I completely forgot about Uncle Sam and he really doesn't like that. That now means that said girl has even less money than I said.

That's why almost every single female pornstar [98%] have become hookers! No stills, no re-shoots, no multiple positions, some times no make-up and no long hours! Paid cash on the spot, guy maybe gets one pop [usually in 15 minutes], hobbyists commonly expected to give tips/gifts and if travel involved; hobbyists foots the bill for that too. The pornstar hooker known as PSE get anywhere from 1k to 2k per hour based on Pornstar. Higher the price the less they have to work. Some Pornstar hookers have been at it a long time i.e. Teri Weigel over 13 years publicly and still at it today, as a matter of fact [ invalid url ]!
This squeeze falls onto the independent producers too. The cost of producing a scene remains the same, but the price publishers will pay for that scene is down. That squeeze takes the incentive out of production and increases the risk. If a scene doesn't sell for any reason, that cost is harder to cover by the scenes that do sell. Higher risks and lower profits makes for a difficult business environment.
they make money in other ways now i don't really care what you call em you can even call em whores i ball like a desperado ball like theres no tomorrow
I think Blossom has stated on numerous other threads that she'd like to try out some adult performing, and I'm sure she's looking into how much money is still there for new talent.
Hi Porno Dan. Some questions and observations if I may. Using your math here (and it would seem the industry is very hard to track, but let's use these stats), the ratio definitely has dropped. At 200 scenes/day, that's 6000 scenes/month and divide that by 1300 stars, and you get 4.6 scenes/month for an average performer. Now that of courses uses the low of 1300 performers and not 1500. By today's stats, it appears using this math it's 1500 scenes/month divided by 600 performers and you get 2.5 scenes/month for an average performer. Using the daily rates you list, I can see that being an annual gross paying job of $30,000 (2.5 scenes x average $1000 b/g x 12). Now that's not bad money considering it's what a few day's worth of time per month to earn? But you state average girls work 4-8 times per month. If that's the case, then they are making $60,000/year and that's not bad at all, without any additional revenue streams. Granted it's not what it was, but maybe now starlets could look at it as a part time gig, working another part time job to have a nice annual salary. That's entirely doable, but requires a mindset adjustment. These numbers display what Porno Dan is saying why rates haven't dropped much-they can't or the value of the earnings disappear. Now to my questions: -Do you ever hear or think that the agents should lower the rate of pay, which maybe would increase production of scenes, and actually earn performers more money overall? Something I think maybe they should look at if the volumn would bear it out. -Are many girls just forgoing the agent in an order to work more often but maybe for less? I know that wouldn't make agents happy as they lose talent to manage, but it would help the talent if my above question is doable. Just curious where the win/win is for both parties. Thanks Porno Dan for any insight.
I think you can't use the arithmetic mean value. The "average performer" is a much smaller group than ten years ago. Back then a Gonzo title had a cover girl and seven "average performers". Today the companies focus on the big names and the hottest newbies because they sell their content by scene. 300 of the 600 performers probably struggle to get one scene per month while 50 top girls get most of the cake. I think in the DVD age it was easier to build a prolonged career. If a girl was reliable and pleasant natured she was hired for a DVD production long after the fresh face factor was gone. I miss the DVD age.

^ Fascinating!!! Thanks for the info Dan although looking at those sites they do have girls listed there that I know for a fact are long gone. Example Mallory and Elizabeth Anne. Now I wonder what 2 or 3 of those girls would charge to accompany me on a one week vacation in Hawaii? I can dream cant I.

Anyone know how the contract girls compare to freelance work? I had read, but given the porn economy it might no longer apply, that top contract girls got low six figures. For example she might be under contract for 24 scenes a year for $120k which would be $5k per scene. Substantially higher than the top rate for non-superstar girls which, as mentioned up thread, were in the $1,500 per scene range. Would any of the top free agent talent be asking $5k per scene? Are there many productions that could even afford $5k per scene talent nowadays?

Interesting stuff, if you really think about it Pornstar's can make some good coin for the little work/time they put in. Most people now a days don't really make to much in the real world, compared to a Pornstar rates! A smart Pornstar can still make good coin with a website and scenes, just have to work a little more! Vicky Vette has really come up with a good business model!

^^ "smart" and "just have to work a little more" are two things unfortunately absent in all to many cases. It is clear that the top stars have those two qualities which is a rather obvious thing to say. Even then the top stars have to look at porn like an NFL player looks at football - your peak earning years being very few indeed.
isnt true that rates in florida are alot cheaper. how much are the rates in florida. but reading this its seems like 30-60 k a yr is not a good enough pay for the risk abd criticism alot of girls get for doing porn, plus porn makes very difficult to get another job or another good legit job so the risk might not be worth it.

I'm not even gonna say that I'm shocked but I figured as much. Kind of a damn shame really. It's like working at a pharmaceutical and not making enough paper you start selling coke, the good stuff (not heroin), on the side. And the fact that it's so many name stars just makes it kind of worse. Oh, well.

I suppose it's about how much you get work and how popular you are with producers and fans alike. Certain scenes and certain companies pay more than others. The ones who take it to the next level are those that sell their image well; standout performers that know how to market themselves are the ones that really make the good money. Same can be said with any profession in the entertainment field. GGG Models archive at Pornstarchive - Work in progress!
Yes, no one can live on that salary. But my point was that they can earn that on a very-part-time basis and work another job career as well (assuming the other job doesn't care/know about the porn career). And this is of course if the talent isn't working other things like dancing, their own sites, etc.
I posted a while ago about where does the money go and I always thought Porn stars MUST make more somehow, someway. Of course my point loses a little thunder now that DVD sales eroding and tube sites growth in general have become so prevalent but check this out Where does the money go?
That's cool and all and you can go and drop $1300 - $1500 to fuck a pornstar when there are girls just as hot as them at the bar and at the club and at the baseball game. I'm just not gonna be a sucker.
That would almost make San Francisco the porn capital of the US right now, then. Kink seems to average about 15-18 scenes per weekday alone, there are also seven or eight other smaller companies producing up there (including some gay companies). Figure ten or so scenes from them and you are up to 25-28 scenes. That is half or more of LA's (or more accurately Chatsworth's) production by your figures and there are at least 25 producing porn companies plus several websites there. Heck, I would guesstimate that Miami has about 15-20 scenes a weekday coming out of there.
It all comes down to preference. If i had the money ( which i do not, not to mention my wife would severe my dick off )i would pay for it.

Yeah even doing 5 b/g scenes a month would only give them a gross income of $60,000, but with income taxes included gives them a net income of around $40,000 which while nice isn't much in LA. Which explains why so many of these girls escort on the side. And where are people getting the notion that Jenna makes millions a year? She sold clubjenna awhile back. Now her making possibly $100k from residuals sounds more reasonable Edited by - ServerZ on 1/4/2012 3:55:04 AM
given the chance i would drop 1000-1500 to fuck one of my favourite porn girls, only prob is i live on other side of the world to US/EURO so add in air-fare/accomodation etc. and it gets blown out of proportion, if money was no thing though would be on the next flight to budapest. Ivana Sugar is still available till jan 13 according to THIS thread dont let the freshness fool u, she is a hardcore anal/dp slut... anyone have good estimate how much for 1 hour with access to her asshole included :D
It is certainly worth extra cash to fuck one of the girls you happen to like. Sure it is a decent amount of money. However when you compare it to the 300-500 you pay to fuck an average escort it is definitely worth the increase.
Ah, Jerry... I know too many people who have been on his show as "guests", some of them multiple times, that I don't think you should take him as an authority on anything...
I just left a Porn star's site that I never heard of that stated "60 thousand monthly users can't be wrong!" (there was no trial rate or other plan btw) Her monthy rate was $29.95 x60,000 (for aguments sake I am sure its inflated) = $1,797,000 a month. Assume 1/2 is webfees, upkeep, materials etc That is is still 898500 a month x 12= 10.7 million a year. I'll tell you what I will cut all these numbers in 1/2 again... That is STILL 5.35 million per year!! I fully believe that regular Scenes don't play...many directors have stated the going rates for stars, I know they recieve no residuals. However, any Star with a site that is maintained MUST be making alot. No one will come out and give me ANY rough numbers. I think of stars like Vicky Vette and Kelly Madison who whore out their site constantly MUST be making a TON of money.
The term "monthly users" could mean anything; it could be the number of visitors, and/or clicks from her banner links on other sites, or whatever. I highly doubt that's it's the number of paid subscribers.

I'm with the other poster. Bringing in that kind of revenue seems unlikely.
