Example: I've done some work for a music magazine that used to include relaitively innocucous pix of Vivid girls like Devon and Brianna Banks: its a nu-metal/extreme music mag, so it would be reasonable to assume that a large segment of their readership was familiar with Vivid chicks, which is also to say, many of the dudes the mag cover have probly been involved with many porn chicks casually or have had relationships with some.

Evidently, advertisers (like major labels, instrument manufacturers, lifestyle products) NO LIKEY when their ads appeared in the page next to pictures of, I dunno, Tera Patrick in a bikini or something. So there were no more pictures of pretty girls who take dick onscreen…

Awhile ago, I saw Nina Hartley on Oprah's show and it was not an ambush or hatchet job at all.

The show was about the swinging lifestyle, but Oprah did acknowledge Nina's adult career, and the discussion did turn to that, and it seemed reasonably fair and balanced. No smugness or moral superiority that I could see.

I don't particularly like Tyra Banks, but to suggest she, O'Reilly, Hannity, etc etc… ad nauseum… are exploiting her, and the porno industry is not, is wrong IMO. She's a smart girl, that is to say she is articulate, but she is not mature and experienced enough to know that EVERYONE is using her....we are all used....wisdom comes from knowing to what end one is being used, and when it's time to walk away.

I think that crossing over, in any degree, is GOOD for both mainstream and the porn industry...it means big bucks for both... and for sure some interesting entertainment.

I only caught the last part of the show, when Tiana had center stage, and I only caught it by accident. To the extent that it warned people to look before they leap, I didn't have a problem with it. I wasn't impressed by Tiana, though. Boo hoo, I only did it for the money is only an indictment of your intelligence.

Tyra blaming porn for Tiana's misery when, in fact, Tiana is responsible for her own actions just supported my earlier comments.

Their pop psychologist didn't impress me much, though he was better than Dr. Phil. Yeah, nobody complains when things are going their way. How insightful. Using the heroin analogy was stupid, because heroin is psychologically addicting, whereas the issue with porn and prostitution isn't psychological, it's cultural, ie, people put you down for doing it.

I am not suggesting whatsoever that, heaven help us, porn ain't a exploitative milieu. I am suggesting that porn is used as a convenient subject for the MSM to look down upon and to condescend to. That the various values that the MSM projects to the world are somehow superior to the presentation of people fucking on screen is pretty vile, although par for the course in a culture that struggles with its puritan foundations. And god knows it gets more complicted than that…

The show is on in an hour here in NYC, and I'm sure that Miss Grey, who seems very assured, intelligent and poised will do ffine.

I just find it amusing that Tyra's so out of touch that she can't see how strong Sasha was in presenting herself and why she's doing adult films. I think any reasonable person sitting and watching Sasha can be taken aback at what she does if they're not a fan of porn but I don't think you can say she's confused about what she's doing. There are plenty of girls in the biz who may fit the abused/ easily manipulated stereotype but don't put Sasha Grey in that category. I agree with what Mark said, if you just talked to Sasha over the phone you could easily think she's over 30. Miss Grey comes across very articulate in her speech and it's surprising that Tyra wasn't more receptive in her tone rather than trying to get Sasha to break down on her set, I can bet she wanted that to happen and was surprised when it didn't.

Tyra kept harping about a deeper reason for wanting to do porn. Like there was some response that she would have said "OK, that makes sense. I agree with you." The whole thing was like watching an inquisition.

And how the hell can Tyra play that role and condemn porn then during the commercial her next show advertises how girls can properly flaunt their tits and ass. Even going so far as to squeeze one of her female guests ass. Amazing!

I could talk for days on this but I'd just like to commend Ms. Grey for not losing her shit and strangling Tyra on stage for all the times she belittled her, cut her short of finishing a sentence and judged the hell out of her.

I'm surprised Sasha accepted but she probably figured if she didn't do it, they'd keep on until they found someone from the industry to put on that show.

But ya know...of course the host is gonna keep cutting her off and not letting her speak or say what she wants to say. It's obviously all part of the plan. When you bring somebody out with the intent of using them to illustrate your point, it isn't helpful if they're allowed to illustrate that your point is BS. As someone else said, their intent was never to give Sasha a fair shake. And I'm sure she knew it and saw it coming.
