It goes to taxing selected website membership fees but not others. It goes to taxing sites such as amazon.com b/c they have affiliates who are located in the state. This one is already in court. It goes to the fact that the vast majority of states are NOT doing these things. It goes to the fact that sales tax here is nearly 9% (depending on where you live); the property taxes are amongst the highest in the nation; and the state income tax rates are amongst the highest in the nation already. It also goes to the fact that the gov here just gave his buddies in the government a big chunk of change, while denying state workers their contractually-guaranteed raises. Hence--"it isn't fair"...Shawna's right. Edit: spelling change. All that would be needed would be a single office in the state. So, you could download porn (or whatever in general terms) from a server in Nevada that was produced in California and be taxed for the download if any part of the company has any type of presence in NY. Even though what you actually downloaded had nothing to do with New York in terms of any part of the commerce stream other than you being in New York. While this excuse has been used to tax online purchases of physical goods in the past, this new law (set of laws?) goes beyond what many consider reasonable--hence, the uproar about it. Additionally, I was making points about his unreasonable taxation in general--thus, all of the different items in my previous post. I think that we're deviating away from "Kara Mynor", however.
