Annabel Chong is in the IT business and she spends alot of time in marathons. Does quite a bit of twitter stuff to keep folks up-to-date after disappearing for awhile. Brooke Ashley recently got married & is doing a great job living her life with the HIV infection she got in the biz, she is in love and happy. They bring us a lot of joy and sexual relief which obviously is a good thing, I hope my favorite girls go on to stable, happy lives in whatever they choose! I've often wondered why porn purchases aren't taxed for the purposes of creating a health care fund for the talent. Never understood the disrespect so many of us have for these young men and women (and some MILTFs too) when so many of us consume the product. It would be worth it for me to pay a little extra so that an older star who has given lots to the profession (Ron Jeremy or Nina Hartley) could have some small pension. Don't SAG actors get these kinds of benefits?
SAG and AFTRA members do both get pensions. I think you have to work at least five years and make at least $30K in unionized employment annually. I don't know about the Director's and Writer's Guilds. Even Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson are eligible, there is no income cap on the pension plan.

thanks for the replies folks. i know that Evil Angel had a DVD called "saved our porn" which was supposed to help with legal support. why not do the same for a health care fund? not my area of expertise, but i'd buy a cd a year connected to this fund just so that people in the biz (talent side) would have options. its sad that once out of fashion how quickly they're left to sink or swim on their own!

Regarding Brooke, last I saw in an LA Times story, she was living on government assistance, had hepatitis on top of HIV, was all blown up and about 100 pounds heavier from her porn days. She looked like she was on her last legs. So she reversed all that?

Ordell, she hasn't "reversed" but she's making a good go of it and taking it day by day. You can't undo any of the damage, but she has apparently decided to keep going moving forward as opposed to "checking out" and she deserves a ton of credit & respect for that! As I noted earlier, she just got married and my guess is that would kick her off public assistance. I missed the L.A. Times article. I'm curious how old it is? I've been out of L.A. for 5 years.
I am not a phlebotomist, nor did I ever attend college to become one. Phlebotomy was included in my coursework for Medical Technologist (or Medical Laboratory Scientist, as they now wish to be called) certification - my back-up career that I truly hope to never be stuck in, since it turned out that I wished I was dead every single day I spent in the hospital lab during my clinical rotation. I am still at college, working on a degree in Biotechnology at Kent State University.
I am so sorry that I got it wrong (the threads covering this are almost a year old now). Actually, this is even better news. I hope you do well and can have a good second career. Biotechs make good money, you just have to be able to get through the lean years while you are in college (I have a university education as well). I have a friend that was a Phlebotomist, he got out and started working in a foundry rather than continue in that field. Kent State is also a recognizable name (for somewhat infamous reasons), maybe that will help get you where you need to go. Stay cute and have some fun now that you are in college!

I am sorry to hear that. I loved college so much I almost made a life's career out of it. I know you have to study and learn (or teach), but I found it an immensely better experience than grade and high school! I hope everything works out for you and that when you graduate you find the best job you ever had (assuming porn wasn't it). I also hope your kids are doing well.
My kids are all grown up and doing great. One runs his own business, two are in college (one to be a teacher, the other to be a librarian), one is a workin' man. Two are renting-to-own their homes. One is in a long term relationship that is rock-steady. My daughter finally dumped her massive looser dope-head jerk boyfriend and has a new guy that at least has a job and doesn't make my stomach churn. They all make me happy on a regular basis.

No - they have multiple achievements. The daughter is one of the ones at college, as well as one that is renting to own her home. I only talk about four of my children.
And to answer the topic question... Of the three retired porn performers I know personally, all are living quiet entirely "normal" lives raising children, single,divorced and married, doing okay financially (although none are what anyone would call wealthy), in their own homes, and nobody ever bothers them (or recognizes them) about having done porn.

Give us a break, Thick! It's human nature to be curious about things - particularly about people who have aroused some kind of passion in us. What happened to them? What are they doing now? Are they OK? Etc. I might be a little less externally demonstrative than some, but I would also hope that if I ran into Kami or Shanna or whoever, I could convey to them a little bit of the joy they've brought into my life. Maybe that would just embarrass them; I don't know.

^Well I dont agree...but we all are entitled to our own opinion...and personally I wouldn't freak out in a grocery store like a 15 yr old Jonas Brother fanatic thats why celebs go crazy people get all wrapped up in the personal life of a complete stranger and the next thing you know your shaving your head bald in front of a convinience store with hundreds of cameras flashing wondering WTF happened...My personal opinion is dont let it become more than entertainment. hey thick, about 3 years ago i ran into Obsession at a AM/PM by LAX. she looked worse for wear & out of it but i went up to her discretely and just told her thanks and asked if she'd take a pix with me. i don't think she was unappreciative. i didn't badger her, i just respectfully said "thank you." i've run into others and done the same. no one in here is stupid enough to act like a teen jonas brothers fan, and yeah its entertainment, but if you have appreciated there "performance" and they've provided you with lots of pleasure then why not discretely say "thanks." i think it would be presumptuous to believe that every ex-porn star is in a lifelong sprint away from their former career and i think alot of them (vanessa del rio for example) would be very pleased in knowing her fans have respect for her. i have to say your example is over the top, extreme and would only happen with someone who is immature and extraordinarily juvenile and probably someone who is pretty stupid as well.
Big foot, there are some pictures of Annette Haven online, just google her and I think they're from about 2005. She looked good. I think of the various porn stars who tried to cross to mainstream with varying degrees of success, she might have had the best chance had she wanted to pursue it. One thing she wouldn't do was to repudiate her past.
I don't see anything creepy about being curious as to what pornstars are up to after they leave the biz. It isn't any creepier than those shows on VH1 and the like that are devoted to celebrities/musicians and "where are they now?"

Well there are a ton of articles on the net that draw porn as a terrible industry that leaves you a mental wreck. Personally I don't believe that it is that bad, but of course it is an industry which is not really suitable for people who are emotionally unstable and easily influenced. On the other hand you also get that in "regular" jobs...burnout syndroms, mobbing or just being overworked. Good example is journalism and other creative jobs, I got to know several people in that business who are heavy drug users, some say it helps them to overcome writing blockades. Back to porn: Time flies while you are young and I can imagine if a girl has spent her time between 21 and 30 in the porn industry without getting a college education or becoming a pro in a different job, will have a hard time on the job market when she decides to leave the industry. The business world is brutal, without experience and education anyone will struggle to move into a new field. The smartest girls are probably those who do porn for a few years to pay for college and post-graduates studies and then bail out of the industry without looking back. Articles like the one quoted before, usually just pick out a couple of "shock" examples, to make up an exciting story. You can find equally sad individual life stories for every other profession.

[/quote] jameson, i like what you say here. most of these articles on adult entertainment are sensationalist and come from: 1) a christian fundamentalist standpoint; 2) shock-and awe ratings and sales increasing profit motive; 3) uniformed, shoddy and incomplete research. Its a tough topic because no one wants to talk about "porn" because we treat it like its some kind of illegal drug here in the U.S. I don't think people are the same in Europe or in Japan (where porn is a little more mainstream). In this regard our hypocrisy is maddening. Nobody really wants to speak up for those who might enjoy being in the business or have gone on to successful well-adjusted lives anymore than they want to believe that their church going neighbors might attend a swing party every now and again. If we treated porn like any other entertainment outlet....video games etc. you'ld probably get both sides of the story, but as it is now we are conditioned and pre-disposed to think Porn=Death or something like that. Its issues like this that help me understand how our roots as a Puritan and very conservative-religious country (from the initial British settlers) really impact the times we are in now.
