Like you, I often wonder what the backstory is with women who do one (or a couple) of scenes and leave. Not including the women who are duped into it like that site Girls Do Porn, as I think it was called. Those were crimes.
European porn, especially from the early 2000s, had by far the most number of obscure but gorgeous pornstars. Lots of model level women who did just 3-4 scenes then went away. They seemed to have an almost unlimited supply of top tier beauties willing to try out porn in Europe.
I would say this wave was dominated by Eastern Europeans primarily Czech, Hungarian and Slovak women. It seemed to have started in the 1990s. The label Private was very successful tapping into this talent pool.
