I think carter is one the less likely to win because IF I AM CORRECT she did her first IR showcases this year and then after hasn't done Much. She actually only does GG now

Everybody keeps bringing up this "break" she announced back in June, when she said she was only doing G/G, but the fact of the matter is that Carter Cruise Obsession wasn't even released on DVD until August. (BLACKED began releasing the four scenes from the movie on their site in June, but if I remember correctly, they were only releasing one scene every 3-4 weeks.) Looking back at this nomination year (October 2014-September 2015), I just recall Carter having several showcase movies released during that time, not to mention she also had standout scenes in both gonzo and features porn. People seem to be dismissing her chances of winning FPOTY because of that announcement she made back in June, but considering everything she had released over the course of this nomination year, I don't get how you can say she's not a front-runner for the award.

Maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough for her work, but I felt that Maddy was absent for much of this nomination year (October 2014-September 2015). Frankly, I was surprised that she was even nominated this time around; 2014 was her big year, when she had two showcase movies released and appeared in a lot of gonzo scenes. But this year? It didn't seem to me that there was much new stuff from her.
Yes, and I was surprised that neither Angela White or Valentina Nappi were included on the list. Neither even received nominations for Foreign Female Performer of the Year. This is significant, particularly when you think that Angela White received 9 AVN nominations!
You know, with Maddy I was probably thinking more like if she won this year it would be AVN catching up from last year. Honestly, I think the categories work against some performers. Abella Danger would likely be my top choice for performer of the year. And AVN should totally include foreign performers in the running instead of sticking them in their own category.
I say this because it does matter to AVN and to the voters that other girls have been active the entire time and she has been inactive for a while now. Those may have been released later but when choosing POTY there are a number of things they look for so her break would be an excluding factor in those things

I'm of the view that if a performer has not been working for the entire year then they should not be considered among the nominations. For whatever reason it may be, the bottom line is that they simply will not have worked so hard for their nomination as others on the list who have worked the whole time. It's not a personal sleight against any of them but from a neautral point of view it just looks unfair that somebody who has put in less work has been equally rewarded with a nomination as somebody else who has worked substantially more than them. Granted, their scenes may be of greater quality even though they have shot less but regardless, they still haven't put the same amount of dedication into their entire year as the others and I, personally anyway, feel that is what should be recognised to a greater degree when deciding on candidate nominations.
Hmmm, considering how First's are such a big deal, how come that isn't a category? First Anal, DP, IR, and of course B/G are categories that could be done every year right?
Would love it if Dana Vespoli and Valentina Nappi were on the POTY list, too ... I don't divide my enjoyment of these performers into categories (although I understand that, in one sense, the idea is to create more opportunity for recognition ...but why not be all-inclusive with POTY?)

Anyone think there are too many categories with too many noms per category? It just seems crazy that so many performers get so many nominations. I guess this is more of a party than an awards ceremony, so perhaps I am over thinking it. It just seems like if you happen to film at least 10 scenes in a year, you are going to get nominated for something. If crazy circus porn carries value, I don't see how they can pick anyone other than Chechik, right? she would be my vote if the difficulty of scenes matters as part of the voting "criteria" :) whether you like her kind of scene or not, she has worked her ass off (literally) this year and must be one of the best money makers in porn for 2015.

Thanks for the insight, Bonnie. Being that I am just an ordinary fan, I'm not exactly sure of everything that AVN's voters take into consideration. I can understand them taking into consideration the total number of scenes a girl has done in a voting year, but I don't agree with them holding it against a girl because she announced a "break" late in the voting year. As far as I can tell, between gonzo and features, Carter did a lot more in the 8 or so months she was "active" than many of her "competitors" for this award did for the full 12 months.
They probably could cut down on the number of nominees in many of the smaller categories. I get having 15 girls up for best new starlet, but having 15 nominations in the Best Dwarf-Trans-Dominatrix-Gangbang-with-Clothes-on category might be a touch overkill.

^ Her best shot to win FPOTY was last year, when she had that BLACKED showcase movie. This nomination year? Nothin' really comes to mind as far as standout scenes/movies.
^ I was sure she was going to take "the next step" this year and film an anal scene (in a showcase), since she's been so measured on her career progression and that seems like it would be the next step, but it never materialized.
The results will come the last day of the AVN Expo coming up the end of next month. As for who votes it's a large group of folks with different ties to the industry. I am one of those voters and have been for the last 6 years or so. It's an honor to have a voice in who gets recognized for some real hard work put in over the course of 12 months. As for this category there are a lot of great girls on this list and it won't be easy to pick one as "winner" but there are so many that are deserving. I'll be as curious as anyone come awards night to see who wins this. There doesn't seem to be a clear cut leader to me and that hasn't always been the case in the last few years so it should be exciting to find out.
I'm interested in this too. Are there any other active ADTers voting? Edited to add: Some of the reviewers here clearly watch A LOT of porn. But there are so many awards in so many categories that I simply can't imagine watching it all. So I have a couple of questions: 1) How much do you fast-forward? It's not hard for me to imagine being able to judge which 2 or 3 scenes merit closer attention, and skimming though the obvious also-rans. But even with the fast forward button firmly in hand, it seems like a lot to watch. 2) Do you feel that you have to be "in the mood" to judge good-quality porn? I imagine some of the better titles have the intended effect, which is great. But afterwards, how do you judge which titles have that something special that makes for great porn? I think the awards have turned into the porn version of participation ribbons. They will try to get as many performers to get nominated as they can; and thus an enormous amount of catagories all with a long list of nominees. I suppose it also helps sell a performers career when they can tag a "multiple nominee" notation to their name; so this certainly has a business case for it. I think it is silly if you ask me and takes away a lot of the seriousness of an awards ceremony.

1) - Not at all, not ever do I fast forward. I am a completist and I watch every scene in it's entirity. It's about the complete experience for me - the build up, the tease, the escalation. In real life you wouldn't skip straight to the fucking because you can't just 'turn yourself on' like a light switch like that. Going straight to the fucking in a scene does nothing for me and I also feel like I'm cheating the performers and the directors out of their efforts that they have gone to shoot and produce this scene. For me, a porn scene is a multi-course meal, not a box of pick'n' mix sweets. Yes, this does have the downside of making it a struggle to get through so much content - such is the curse of being such a fan - but I get to feel within myself that I have truly given it a chance and can judge it honestly with a clear conscience. Besides, if I have decided to download it it's because there's a high chance it will be worth my time anyway, either because of the performer or director involved. Of course, I have to experiment to find new girls that I like but I do it based off what I see on social media, blogs, trailers before committing myself to downloading their scenes. It's the only way I can organise in my head who I truly like and whom I am particularly interested in. It makes organising and managing my collection so much easier when I know everything there deserves to be there because it is worth watching. When I find the time, that is another question entirely! 2) I do have to be in the mood and to be honest it can be somewhat depressing at times. There can be a highly anticipated scene that everybody and his wife, even the performer herself, has been raving about and I'll really want to watch it as soon as it comes out but for reasons totally bereft to me, I'm just not in the frame of mind to watch it. This only really happens with the performers I have a particularly fandom for, which are relatively few, so for the rest of the girls that I also enjoy this question of mood is not a problem. I'm not sure why this is. I perhaps wonder if it's to do with expectation when it's one of your most favourite performers, in as much as your almost forcing yourself to like it because of the hype rather than simply as another scene in of itself that you can just sit back and enjoy like you would any other. The psychology behind it is fascinating and, to be honest, quite a mystery to me still. How I judge to begin with is based almost entirely on the director or company and the performer(s) casted. If they are girls I already like and they come from a studio I have at some point tried and especially enjoyed then they will get an instant download. The most common exception would be in the case of rare or first anal's / gangbangs / BG scenes for girl's I am especially attracted to, in which case I will go out on a limb and probably purchase a short membership just to get that scene, even if it's for a company I do not know. In general though, it is the reputation of the performers and directors/company involved that determine which titles have something special. Sorry for derailing, but I thought they were interesting questions to answer .
I don’t think I should win (my vote is for Riley/Adriana), but saying I only did one showcase is grievously unfair. Within the award period I did my first gang bang (plus more), blow bang (plus more), and first IR, and a couple features - one of which got me a nom for best actress. The cut off date for this year was after September, during which month my IR showcase was the number one selling movie for 4 weeks, and during which I had multiple other releases that got me noms. I also had Carter Cruise Wide Open and All Access Carter Cruise which both received nominations. I think Anikka & Carter just barely missed the cutoff date unfortunately. I’ve never had a lot of hype around my name, even when I was shooting almost every day and pumping out new scenes left and right, but you don’t get 12 noms for doing nothing. Yes, I shot most of my scenes in the first 9 out of 12 months in the award period, but I don’t see how that really matters when you’re looking at it as a body of work. Also, there was a period of time where I only did GG to give my body a break, but I’m now under contract and am doing everything again. I know slowing down the last three months instead of the first three (or even three in the middle) really affected my chances and it’s unfortunate, but it’s just the way things worked out and you can’t always plan everything in life perfectly. I’m okay with that, but it’s not fair to say I did nothing when I had a huge year and it’s just the timing that worked against me. Riley and Adriana are both bomb af and have been around longer than me, so I would be happy to see either one of them win - I just wanted to set the record straight :)

1. It is a lot to watch. Look at the number of categories and then multiply the number of entries per category. That's a shit ton of porn and there is no way humanly possible to watch everything without fast forwarding so the remote is right on the chair next to the laptop when reviewing. Evaluating porn is work and something to be taken seriously. Yeah, its a hobby, but there is kind of a fiduciary duty to do a good job. Hell, when I review a title, I usually watch it at least twice in preparation for the review. Once for enjoyment, then again to spread the word. I tend to review 2 types of disks; ones that are excellent, and the others to completely avoid. 2. For me it's quite the opposite. If you're serious about doing a decent job, you're working, not watching per se. Granted I review what I like, but the review isn't about me, its about telling the audience what they want to know. I do reviews to help generate sales for the companies and create interest in the girls. I don't need to watch 10 minutes of doggy for a review to form an opinion. How does one judge a scene? Easy, review enough porn and start looking at the technical aspects of everything. Angles, framing, lighting, positions, is it cookie cutter, enthusiasm, popshot, how does the performer perform, are they going through the motions or putting in the effort, do they embrace the camera, do the fuck the guy or get fucked, etc etc. There is only one choice for POTY and that's Adriana. She's the obvious choice because she's consistently delivered the most over the top sluttiest performances in everything she's done for all the major labels, and that's watch a POTY does. Hey, you're "preaching to the choir" here (with me at least). Earlier in this thread that's what I was trying to say, that despite announcing that you were "slowing down" back in June, you still did so much in the nomination year-from great gonzo scenes to multiple showcases. I can't imagine there are many nominees for this award that put out as many scenes/movies as you did during the nomination year, even though you essentially did all of it during the first 9 months of the nomination year. Anyways, I still think you'll win this award, although, I do agree with you that Adriana Chechik and Riley Reid are worthy of the award; despite the long list of nominees, I feel that you three are the only ones worthy of the award.

I was too focused on the subjective aspects of what makes for good porn, but thinking about it, I see you're right. Lust is blind. Subjectively, Dillion Harper does it for me, and I don't care for Julia Ann. Objectively, I realize that Julia Ann turns in more spirited performances, and if I were to review their work without being blinded by lust, I might review Julia Ann more highly. This less-lustful review might in turn capture the average porn fan's preferences.
