If you are referring to those who only work in g/g scenes, then yeah I agree there are very few of them these days. The biggest single group of them, as far as I know -- which I had referred to multiple times in the past -- is what I called the "Miracle Generation" of Viv Thomas girls, like Sandy, Jo, Eve Angel, Sophie Moone, Sandra Shine, Peaches, Vera, Stella Stevens.
When I was young they did hold a special allure to me, because this helped with the fantasy that they were "real" lesbians. As I watched more porn over the years, it has become non-issue for me. As the academic researcher on porn Heather Berg put it, "every porn scene is a record of people at work." I can appreciate good works and good performances. Their "real" personal sexuality is neither here nor there.
I had talked about Berg elsewhere, but basically she wrote some papers and a book on this. The book was titled "Porn Work: Sex, Labor, and Late Capitalism" and published in 2021. She got her information by talking to dozens of porn performers, agents, directors, and company owners. You can listen to a podcast she did with Tristan Taormino (a porn director) here where they talk about the book.
I don't remember if Berg made this point during that specific podcast, but she talked about how some porn performers like to work with some other specific performers. When she asked them why, it was rarely because they felt sexual attraction toward them. Instead, mostly it was because they felt they were experienced, were able to communicate effectively, and the two of them were able to work well to produce a product that fit the director's requirements. In other words, a good colleague.
Porn is a fantasy. If someone prefer to enjoy the "real lesbian" fantasy, that's perfectly fine. I'm just content with appreciating good performances.
I've never quite got the obsession some have with wanting the women to be 'real' lesbians or something along those lines. I just look at them as actresses playing a role like any other actress and the best ones take pride in their work and want to be good at it and maybe even get some pleasure out of it. As for having strictly GG only performers I think what they bring is that they are usually (but not always) the ones that take their work the most seriously and can bring out better performances in their partners and when there aren't many of them that lowers the number of quality scenes IMO.

Honestly, looking back, I think you'd find the majority of "GG only" performers were really more "I have/will have a boyfriend/husband" performers, as in not wanting to work with dudes because of the potential impact on dating/relationships during and after working. I pretty much agree with your assessment. I'll only note that when I said "g/g only" performers were exciting for me in the past because it fueled my "they are really lesbians" fantasy, I was only speaking for myself. Other people -- such as Jozko111 -- may find g/g only performers appealing for some other reason.
When you talk about the Alina/Kendra scene, I assume you are talking about their "What Set Us Apart" scene? In this case, if we ignore the work/acting aspect of porn and overly insist on being real/authentic, we actually de-value the acting talent of these two women.

Ok so this is the second (and last) part of my review of the Adam & Eve movie "Ulterior Motives" that came out in May of this year. This is the last scene of the movie, between Evelyn Claire and Scarlett Alexis. The plot, from what I can see of it (I've skipped all the straight scenes and associated plot, so I'm missing most of it), is impressively elaborate and done well. As for the sex, the lighting is a bit dark, but wow I have never seen a hotter Evelyn!

Then we go back to the present, where, to her even greater shock, Evelyn finds her husband is gagged and tied up behind the couch!

They chase Scarlett down the stairs -- apparently she has walked away with their money in some shady scheme -- only to helplessly watch Scarlett getting into a waiting car. It ends with a shot of Scarlett's face, looking smug and satisfied. It's a double cross!
From what I can gather of the plot, this is really cool. The story sets up Evelyn to be this scheming femme fatale, using her sexual allure to trick other people into some con (perhaps using her husband as a pawn). In fact, it turns out Scarlett is the one who has played her.
Then we go back to the flashback when they first met. It's very nice how the scene transitions from black and white into color as the sex begins, though I wonder what it would look like if the whole thing is in black and white? Perhaps it will be really nice, as both women have dark hair that naturally contrasts with their paler skins, especially Evelyn. The initial foreplay is nice but a bit short.
They start with a brief facesitting with Scarlett beautifully eating Evelyn's pussy. Then in a part I find really hot, Scarlett rubs herself against Evelyn's thigh, while Evelyn sucks on her breasts and they kiss.
Then Scarlett sits on Evelyn's face in this position that I normally very much dislike, because it hides the face of the woman on the bottom. It turns out Evelyn is not really the seductress, but the victim of an even more ruthless seductress!

As far as number of shoots booked, I don't think that matters in any technical or factual sense. For sure, it's definitely subjective no doubt but there are some things that really are indisputable. Even still, this thing about Freya Parker being "enormously gifted" is almost entirely subjective (I 1000% agree though). If we wanted to be a little closer to talking objectively, we could say that Freya technically eats pussy in a way one would expect to be actually effective when people are acting normal and actually having sex, as opposed to mostly just miming and exaggerating for show like a Char Stokely (you guys should have seen the tongue-flick head-bob theatre motion I just did). Or we might say that she tends to give the other girl eye contact, or that she tends to touch the other girl and initiate body contact as if she really wants her to feel good, or that she doesn't change the action she is doing every three seconds so it looks like she has actual experience and intent, etc. Details like these move a little bit closer to objectivity and whether people agree with the evaluation or not (since even fine details are still subjective), to me they are more useful in conveying what's good about the performer than simple superlatives.
For my personal, subjective taste, I would mostly not consider Slayed to be good content because the action on the site mostly does not look technically sound. There's lots of rapid movements and porn phraseology "dirty talk" and theatrics and shiny objects to look at, but the answer to my bottom line question of any video "does what they are doing look physically correct and likely, as far as people having sex?" is usually 'no, not even close' on Slayed. And to be fair, that's not what the site is about. Slayed is more about capturing key shots of specific poses than whatever interaction the performers could gin up. The value of that style of content is subjective, but the description I gave hopefully has a little more objectivity or quasi-fact basis to it than if I just said "Slayed looks like goofy nonsense", like I probably tend to do lol.
^I also despise strap-on scenes and rue even the appearance of dildos in g/g - and yet straplez I love. It's interesting - the anti-strap and anti-dildo taste is informed not by the objects themselves but what they normally entail, which is (to me anyway) cartoonish and lazy scenes that are distanced from intimate sexual response. Straplez is very much the exception that proves the rule - the strap-on is made highly intimate in by being made the focus of their scenes - the site has this weirdly robotic tone to it that somehow _also_ makes it more erotic. Writing it down, it makes limited sense - but it's also imo true - it's basically the only new porn I consistently like.
Another culprit is that major sites and networks now produce minimal or no G/G content. It's a point that some dispute, but the fact that Penthouse, Hustler, Ztod, Bangbros, Cherrypimps, etc... now stick exclusively to BG is a big deal. The fact that the few that do still produce content (VMG, Dyked/MILF, New Sensations, LetDoeIt, etc...) do it biweekly or monthly is also problematic.
So, as a result of turning off most "casual G/G" consumers by focusing less on the visuals and the sex, G/G has effectively been downgraded from the "red-headed" stepchild of studio porn to a niche.
The rise of Onlyfans and other factors has not helped, but there hasn't been enough effort to combat the decline or to keep things going with interesting and original content. The few sites I have seen launched in the past couple of years either halfheartedly follow trends or try something briefly before folding.
You're much more likely to find women who actually like other women in B/G porn. Lesbian only performers do it because they have a boyfriend or husband.

I wonder if GG was always only just barely profitable, such that the initial onset of online piracy was enough to nearly kill it. Something like that had to be the case since almost all the major studios stopped producing meaningful amounts so quickly (it seems like COVID was the death knell, but the trend has started going long before that). Studios that I was optimistic about also promptly threw in the towel after a few months (New Sensations / Girl Girl XXX come to mind).

GirlGirlXXX is still going, as of yesterday, and it isn't truly new. Before GirlGirlXXX, New Sensations had TheLesbianExperience. In fact, the website design for XXX was the same as TLE when XXX launched. ^I can't unhear it in the majority of videos. Fake-gay noises are glaring and they turn me off immediately. Anyhow, really hope we see more GG content from Nicole (this and the Slayed scene seem to be her only credits as of yet)
I guess I should have clarified that going from 1 scene a week to 1 scene a month is considered "throwing in the towel" in my book. It's not entirely defunct, but no one will pay exclusively for 1 scene a month, meaning that it's less of a draw and is now just part of the broader New Sensations network.
But my main point is that there was a lot more variety and a decent quantity when all the studios made a small to moderate amount of G/G instead of relying on a handful of sites that all fall for the same mommy-daddy-second cousin's aunt tropes.
