Okay, your wording here had confused me:
I think that a well managed, properly timed Urban X award would be the best way to get out who the best black performers are. If the award committee met around 3 times a year to create nominations and used the same time frame as AVN, then they could get out their picks before the AVN nomination process is over. Especially then if they could work with studios to create a compilation disc of the winners and the scenes that won to distribute to AVN voters.

Do you even understand what the word "minority" means?
minority
mi·nor·i·ty
[mi-nawr-i-tee, -nor, -mahy-] Show IPA
noun, plural mi·nor·i·ties.
1.
the smaller part or number; a number, part, or amount forming less than half of the whole.
2.
a smaller party or group opposed to a majority, as in voting or other action.
3.
a group differing, especially in race, religion, or ethnic background, from the majority of a population: legislation aimed at providing equal rights for minorities.
4.
a member of such a group.
5.
the state or period of being under the legal age of full responsibility.
Blacks are only about 13% of the US population to begin with, and the percentage of black female performers in porn is, from my observation in watching porn for a very long time, far, far lower than that, even if you count all the ones who only ever appeared in a single scene in some shitty "Black Street Hookers #318"-type movie that only 27 people in the world ever saw.

I'm still dubious of the "her" in herself. Either way...

It's not about being in the same league, it's about as someone already pointed out "leveling the playing field" or simply acknowledging black performers who might not be recognized because they don't get to play in the big sandboxes. There are plenty of talented black women who do great work who the AVNs will never aknowledge because they don't shoot for JULES JORDAN, EVIL ANGEL, VIVID, DIGITAL PLYGROUND, etc...There are black porn veiwers that have their fav girls who don't work for those bigger studios. Why shouldn't they have an awards show to give them props? If you poll black porn viewers as to who their fav pornstars are the list will be very different from white males making that choice. You and I can probably rattle off a long list of black performers that outperform many of the AVN winners on a regular basis but they'll never get their props because the voting is bias to a certain type of girl and certain studios. These girls should have an awards show that recognizes their work. The same is true for Latinos and Asians.
That's like saying if an actress wins the GOLDEN GLOBE they can't win the OSCAR. Or if a singer wins th SOUL TRAIN award or THE AMERICAN MUSIC AWARD they can't win a GRAMMY. All these types of award shows do is recognize the work of a specifi group perhaps under a different critiera. It takes nothing away from or affect the "main" award shows.
No. You shouldn't do that. The whole point of what I'm saying is let those award shows continue to do what they do and how they do it but also have these other shows to give props to these other people who may have a different audience and do great work too but wose work may not otherwise get the recognition they deserve.
Let's just cut to the chase here. Clearly there are black, Latino, and Asians who give better performances than many of the girls who win AVN awards...Let them and their fans get their justice.

I see , what has been confusing , when I say "force" I just mean to partly take it out the hands of the assholes who rule that award to avoid their "use as we please" attitude, this is not limited to black performers of course , but for example there are a couple awards really laughable , not for the star but c'mon a first anal the best anal in the whole porn that year?
Your solution would be perfect if there was an open committee with no agenda who really wants to award the best one , but they snub black performers why would they organize such reunions to do what they already should do by themselves? If they do not want to take into consideration black performers , they won't look at any black award especially if such award is not followed by the major customers.
For the first part , we certainly could.
The second part enhanced is my point exactly if you begin to create awards for any minority there will be no end to it , but on a second thought this may be a solution to get either attention from the viewers and to force AVN to take those awards into consideration.
I mean if you put in it a "black award" it would dangerously seem a ghetto award but if you add it to a Latino an Asian and so on it would just be a related award.
There's a reason why I insist on this point , all the awards your mentioned aren't race related , just have different criteria but the Academy Award does not snub black actors and directors , there's nothing preventing a black or an Asian from winning an Oscar , all the others awards are related even if they were specific to a small group.Same for music (would have been ridiculous otherwise given the ENORMOUS importance and influence of black music today and in the last century)
This is not the situation in the industry , if you create a single ethnic award it'll stay isolated and limited.
I'd like to see universal recognition to those who deserve it , for example Marie Luv was better than most by far , and actually she is the very reason behind my change of view about Tori Black after I saw them both performing together with Ice Cold in "Pretty Filthy" Tori not only matched Marie but was even beyond that, prior to that I basically avoided her, she seemed the usual tamed beauty pushed by marketing strategies but then I saw her matching the high standards set by Marie who was herself at her best and this was something,(then I saw her matching and actually surpassing Asa Akira again with Ice Cold in Pretty Filthy 2).
Marie Luv never got the recognition she deserved , she was a GREAT performer far better than many and nastier than most.
Another point is that I do not believe an ethnic award would raise the rates of a black performer an AVN award might though , if it's true that blacks aren't paid as much as whites (either for racism or market reasons) , an ethnic award followed only by those already interested which already buy "black porn" won't raise the sale curve of such performers , the AVN on the other hand may do.
I have to say another thing there are directors and performers who regularly hire black performers pointing the attention on them Michael Stefano is on,e he always did over the years ,he directed some black dedicated movies and series and he never got the due recognition for this. Another is Mike Adriano , I'm not a fan of his work but I see that he did some movies with black performers only.
Adriano has a very strong fanbase , that would help I think.

Conspiracy theories that white people are generally racist towards black people, a breathtaking inferiority complex, a chip on one's shoulder that can only be balanced by making arguments without facts.
Take your pick.

The AVN awards is a joke a general. I agree totally that they never give these black performers credits but the same goes to a lot of talented performers. Just look at this year's award show. In my opinion a lot of performers who should have won didn't hell some didn't even get nominated..

I don't think the AVNs mean much to fans and porn consumers in general. Most award shows simply exist as an excuse to get performers together and put them in a show that people tend to watch. Does anyone actually buy porn or watch certain girls based on the awards won? Do people really think all the girls who win are actually the ones who should have?

Why does there have to be an "end to it"? The AVNs could still be the big grand daddy of the award shows and any others can easily exist without taking away from the AVNs...in fact there are award shows that already exist that do their thing and don't detract from the AVNs. There already is/were a "black" awards show. If someone wanted to organize a Latino or Asian awards ceremony and the audience is big enough to support it what's the big deal? That's the reason the AVNs started in the first place...someone put it together and got people to buy into it.
Because it's black it would seem "ghetto"? Does WCP, BLACK MARKET, or JULES JORDAN movies featuring a black performer automatically become "ghetto"? Yeah, there are some studios doing what some may consider "ghetto" stuff but there are plenty of movies with black performers that aren't preceived that way at all. Like I said a black awards show already exists and to my knowledge most people don't look at it as a ghetto awards show.
There are award shows that exist that cater to certain ethnic groups. There's the SOUL TRAIN AWARDS, ESSENCE AWARDS, Latino award shows, etc... Certain enthnic groups simply want to see their people get their props for their work. It's as simple as that. That's not saying the Grammys, Oscars, EMMYs, or AVNs don't matter or need to change, it's simply a group of people saying "We have people doing good work within this industry and we want to recognize them."
Perhaps if you aren't a minority it's harder to grasp this line of thinking. It's like white people used to ask me why the BET (BLACK ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION) exists. It exists because there's a whole black culture and audience that doesn't as much attention as some feel they need from "regular" tv. Some people understand when I explain it...and there are some who totally don't and respond with "But there's no white tv network. When they say something like that I end the conversation.
It's like I feel with many things (even things I don't like)...If there's an audience big enough to support it there's nothing wrong with it existing.
So she should miss out on getting recognition and awards for her accomplishments because someone thinks only one (sometimes biased) awards show should only exist or matter?
Maybe simply getting credit and props for their work is enough for some.
If a white director puts out great movies featuring black perfomers there's no reason why they can't receive an award at a black awards show. It's no uncommon for white people to receive awards show for their contributions to black films.

Somebody dug up a thread this old? Wow.
I've never watched a porn star based on an AVN award. Destroyed a career? Get real. The AVNs might help networking after the awards show. Get real. An AVN award means next to nothing for a porn stars career. Sorry, they don't. Maybe a bit of personal pride for some of the performers, but that's about it. Monetarily it means nothing.
The industry chews through girls like a wood chipper through wood. They're always looking for new girls.
Women entering porn should look at it for what it is. A relatively short-term career they can use to rack up cash in a short amount of time that they hopefully use for something productive. Occasionally a porn star might hit it big, but it's not the norm. It has nothing do with the AVN Awards.
Get real.

It's articulate and long , first off I used the word "ghetto" in its original meaning of "restricted" or "marginalized" or "isolated" , the first Ghetto was in Venice and was the area restricted for Jews who cannot get out of there. There's a verb in Italian "ghettizzare" (literally to put into a ghetto)it means to restrict people to their own kind , it isn't limited to ethnic groups but also cultural , sexual or even trendy groups such as hipsters or punks back then.
I didn't mean because it's black it's a ghetto , I meant it as a close circle separate from the rest.
When I said it'll be no end to it , I meant that if every group creates its own award such too large number of them would make them meaningless.
For example Latino are whites , if you put a Latino award , than maybe other white ethnic groups would do same , for example Jews or Arabians , same for Asians , there's no an Asian race Malay Asians are different from Chino-Asians who are different from Indian-Asians.
When you say that not being part of a minority makes difficult to really see the problem you certainly got a point, I have no doubt , which is why you find me in such discussions often, there's no way to learn but from people who know.
Confrontations of views would help greatly.
I see the point to award those who aren't getting enough from the established powers, but then again no award is impervious to minorities like the AVN is.
First thing to do is to open it , Skin is doing exactly so , should be praised for that.
when I mentioned the directors who don't give a fuck to the main market but do what they think would sell less but get a different audience than the usual , I meant they don't get enough consideration by us the consumers.
I praised Mimefreak for this reason , If he had a better distribution I'd have supported Justin Slayer more , but his movies were hard to find , too bad , he had people of every kind in his roster even Sophia Santi got her chance.

Thanks for the Webster Dictionary entries u posted but ur observation is flawed and incorrect, if Black Female Performers or Black Male Performers for that matter were such a small Minority like u see them as then why is it that there are Black Owned Porn Studio Companies that hire and contract Black Female and Male Performers?? if Black Females were such a small Minority in the Industry, Ebony Production Companies like West Coast Productions,Black Ice,Black Market Entertainment,Mercenary Pictures,Black Magic Pictures, and Video Team would not exist if Black Females were such a small number in the Industry, I can name many more Ebony Companies but like I said Asian Females and Asian Males are more of a Minority than Black Women.

I can agree with u on some points here, I dont like that the Industry didnt give enough props to Marie Luv, Marie Luv was even big enough to crossover into a couple of Digital Playground films and that says a lot giving the fact Digital Playground rarely hires Black Performers for thier films, I think Marie Luv even made the Cover of a Digital Playground film, and yes Michael Stefano and Mike Adriano have done a lot of ethnic films with Black Females and thier work seems to get ignored, thats another thing the Industry and the powers that be at the AVN Awards really dont want to acknowledge the work of White Male Directors that promote ethnic/Black Product, Mike Adriano,Michael Stefano and Manuel Ferrara have made a lot of good Ebony titles.

LMAO its no conspiracy theories I already mentioned how I found this thread, mind u i am not the one who created this thread but the person who created it is right on point, I have no inferiority or whatever u may think u dont know me personally so stop trying to make personal attacks, this is not arguing its conversation on a touchy subject , but some people like urself have a utopia view of life and dont want to see things for what they are.

I feel u , growing up a lot of White People would ask me the same thing " why is there a BET, and not a White Equivilant of BET" I couldnt stand it when people asked that question it is soo annoying, but its ashamed BET Sold out but thats a whole other non related topic, and yes White Directors have Won Urban X Awards, Michael Stefano Won a Urban X Award along with Belladonna so White Performers and directors do get acknowledged at ethnic Awards shows like Urban X which shows u the tolerance and fairness with the People who control Urban X if ur talented and u crossover well into the Ebony side of Porn u will get awarded for it but not Vice Versa with AVN

That you didn't create this thread is irrelevant. The question was why you dug it up - did you not learn comprehension? Yes, I say there are conspiracy theories on your part because you accuse the industry or at least the non-black part of it to be racist and that racism is the only reason a black woman hasn't won an AVN award.
Who are these people like myself? You've completely misjudged me in thinking I have some sort of view of life that it's all beautiful, I am far too cynical to believe that. Utopia means "nowhere" for a reason and I have no problems in seeing things for what they are. I don't deny racism exists, I'm just not eager to wave the race card - an awful lot of your topics focus on race, hence why I accuse you of the complex - and make sweeping statements about certain groups of people, unlike some...
