thedumas: I don't think she expected press coverage. The kids probably don't even know why any camera would be there. But I bet a bunch of a fifth graders just hit puberty when they wondered "who is Sasha Grey and why was she at my school?" that afternoon. Hell, "who is Sasha Grey and why WASN'T she at my school!?!"
^I think you said it best with "she did a movie? because again she didn't really have to stretch her acting muscle. Her part consist of being a prostitute that one of the four main actors has a 3 some with. Gee was the part of the stripper with the heart of gold already taken? The fact that the movie was released at Sundance early this year and only made it unto limited run in theaters now was a pretty good indication that it almost went staight to dvd.
It is a program called Read Across America and I guess they hire celebrities or at least try to hire celebrities. She wasn`t there for anything other than read children books to elementary kids. I don`t know exactly how she was introduced so unless they mentioned her name as Sasha Grey and that she was a celebrity then all they will really know is the shit storm that happened after this nice lady came to their school to read them stories. The kids look about 6-7 years old in the phtos so it`s unlikely that they are aware of any of the mainstream work Sasha has done. At least I certainly hope they are otherwise kids are watching Entourage.

The thing I was getting at was if she said she was an actress and did movies and a kid(s) went home to to tell their parents about Sasha Grey reading to them at school and ask the parents to tell them about which movies Sasha was in or to find her on the net and the parents tried to do so. That doesn't mean Sasha shouldn't have read to them but it creates a akward situation with the parents at home...if they were to look her up on the kid's request.
It was Sundance 2009. FWIW, it was one of Soderbergh's experimental films, which are made under a six-picture contract with Marc Cuban's HDNET. These titles are released on HDNET and NY/LA theatrical on the same day, with some limited theatrical after that. Then DVD. Basically, almost all independent films are released this way: after playing the festival circuit, VOD precedes limited theatrical, then there's a DVD at the end of the process.

My kid's don't. We're not their friends, we're their parent's and what we say goes. We know what's going on in every facet of their lives.
I'm not sure why some people here are condemning Sasha for reading to kids at an inner city school as some sort of personal pr stunt. When she was here on the forums she came across as an intelligent well-read person. It was pretty apparent she was an avid reader. It doesn't seem such a stretch she might want to instill this love of reading to others. From the pictures she seems to be having a great time and she certainly looks prim and proper. I thought most of us here appreciate porn and I don't think we should think of the performers as being that different from any of us.
thanks for the suggestion, looks like a pretty hot scene, does anyone know of other scenes, preferably where a guy gets to do the ass worship to Sasha, or better still, is dominanted by that ass?
Sasha Grey on The View. Great job by Sasha when they gave her a chance to speak. This show needs to be three hours long so the guests can participate also.
The more I read about this story and the more I think that Sasha orchestrated the entire incident. The sad fact for her is that the mainstream media hasn't come knocking and whatever career she tought she'd have is simply no there. The way you read the stories it would seem that she's still on Entourage when that was last year.

Glad you liked it. It was your idea, I'm just the monkey that pushed the buttons. :)
It's quite sad when an attempt at altruism is met with such distrust and animus. My question to you would be; if she did orchestrate it, then why wouldn't she be using the media exposure she has received to push her new movie or even her book rather than focusing on the fact that she was on a show that already wrapped up? During her spot on The View they mentioned her as an actress and touched on her being on Entourage but surely she would have squeezed in a moment to plug her new film. My question to all the people that are being so critical of her is; how much volunteer work do they do? It strikes me that if a program like Read Across America had more volunteers than it could possibly accomodate, then maybe Sasha wouldn't have been able to get a spot. It's quite easy to criticize, certainly easier than getting involved. Edited by - malandro on 11/16/2011 10:33:50 PM
I'm sorry but when did reading to children become an act of altruism? It's not like she donated money to a school in need so that they could buy books for children. She took time off from her very busy schedule....Oops she wasn't doing anything so why not make herself available for this. The reason why she didn't promote her movie is because she plays a prostitute in it and she's not even one of the main characters. What question would you ask an ex-pornstar? You can't ask her where she got the inspiration for the character? You can't even ask her what it was like shooting with all those stars because she's not on the screen long enough to warant asking that question. She didn't promote her book because it is a year old and no one cares anymore. Not too mention that anyone asking her on their show would probe her about the incident and wouldn't necessarily interested in anything else. Can you tell me what Sasha has done in the last year? If you look at IMDB then all you see is stuff she's already done and one possible job on the Linda Lovelace movie. I think Sasha did many things in mainstream media but she has learned like most other porn performers that mainstream media isn't very forgiving to people that have done porn.
^^^^^The kids benefited from Sasha's participation in their lives---that's all that matters....How can I be sure they got something lasting and positive out of their hour or two with Sasha?----she's HOT---that's why....kids know that in our world hotness equates to options....Sasha coulda been a thousand other places---instead she was with them----reading to them----paying attention to them.....hopefully no amount of brainwashing will soon persuade those urchins to reconsider their affection for Sasha and their gratitude for her brief involvement in their lives......On the other hand---let's suppose it were someone else---you for instance---who had visited that class..........Nope---I can't do it---can't picture you doing something simple and nice..

Since when is an act altruism solely dependant on a monetary or material exchange? She freely made the effort to help others. Less my understanding is incorrect that is by definition altruism. I'm not trying to paint her as the second coming of Mother Teresa, but she actually invested her time and effort in doing something in which she seems to genuinely believe. Criticizing her for how much time she has available to devote to such a project seems irrelevant since with all the time in the world others do much less.

The amount of brown nosing that still goes on in this thread even after all this time, is hilarious to see. Question, why is it that only NOW she decides to read to children....when she's got another low budget movie coming out where she plays a brief part (again as a prostitute or stripper of some sort), and her mainstream career still isn't going anywhere and money is probably drying up? How is it that she didn't try to do this, let's say, 2 years ago...or even a year ago? I mean, she's hardly an Angelina Jolie who has 10s of movies lined up starring HER and she's busy shooting 5 days a week, all over the world? Surely she could've found time between her failed attempts at "DJing" and all, to "serve the community and kids" by reading to them, then. She's been going all out to get mainstream projects for about 3yrs now, still, has not done a single movie or project where she does anything significant, or is even challenged to "ACT" (terrible acting skills or lack there of) and yet, she and her brownosers talk as if she's the second coming of Meryl Streep. Only now, when she hasn't been in the news for a while, and other then this crappy movie that's coming out, which again...isn't or wasn't gonna make more then a thousand dollars, she decides to do this.......and just so happens, that TMZ somehow gets informed, and someone JUST HAPPENS TO TAKE PICTURES of the appearance and sends them to TMZ. So who took the pictures, one of the 6yr old undercover TMZ agent, who goes to school in all of the elementary schools in LA..waiting for a celeb to appear and take pics? lol I mean, come on. You gotta be incredibly naive at least, to not see this as anything other then a publicity stunt. Use your BRAIN! Not your dick, she's never gonna fuck you, hell might not even talk to you, so stop blind worshiping. Practice what you preach. If she's so for education, then how about she takes herself to college first and get a decent education, before preaching it to young kids? I mean, she came to porn pretty much straight from High School at 18yrs old...so how about doing that first, before trying to be a role model for kids? I'd have a lot more respect for what she's supposedly trying to do, then.
^^^If everyone had to have an education to encourage others to read, how would anyone EVER become the first in their family to graduate college? I think your soapbox es falling apart because of bad design. Sorry, I haven't read back to the beginning of this entire story for this thread. I have heard about it in my following news though. One, a superficial note, she's absolutely gorgeous on regular TV. Two, it doesn't matter as much for this discussion, but the people who compare TV violence to porn are dumb, naive, or delusional. I dare you, find me a 25-year-old and show him some good porn that doesn't get a hard on. Once there's an erection, most guys want somewhere to put it, whether it's in their partner, friend, or their own hand. If jumping through the screen was possible, he'd knock that guy out of the way and fuck the girl's brain out. It's involuntary, and we don't complain about it. Now find me a guy who loves horror movies and violent movies and show him some of the best, most realistic violence ever. The average guy has no real desire to want to act anything out. More important to the convo, Three, she read to kids. If the parents/kids have no idea who she is, they heard a good-looking(yes, even kids know that stuff) lady read to them. That means kids have one more person telling them that reading is good. Fourth, she read to kids. Whether or not she's busy, a woman like that can always find a guy to screw, a party to attend, a movie to go to, or(assuming she likes reading like she says) a book to read by herself. She went to a school to read to kids. That's altruism. She gets nothing from it. Even publicity for her mainstream career if she still wants one. How is the american public showing they hate her and don't want anything to do with her good for aiding a mainstream career? Fifth, how do the parents even know who she is. They don't go googling sasha alexander when she goes to a school. (i don't know if she ever did, but the name sounds just as normal. she's the really attractive girl from NCIS and the new show on TNT, Rizzoli and Aisles). So they probably wouldn't recognize or look for Sasha Grey's name either. Someone recognized her. Knew her name and everything. Passed it on to start the outrage. Hypocrisy is horrible. Well here is where it gets interesting. There's a rumor that it was someone in Sasha's camp that called the school to complain. Then that same person called the LA Times to say that parents had called the school to complain that a former pornstar was reading to children in school but the LA Times wasn't reacting fast enough so they called TMZ who ran with the story.

Things I've learned today: - Altruism only counts if cash and goods are involved. - Volunteering only counts for those who don't have a lot of spare time. - The only reason anyone ever has for defending someone else's good deed is to get into their pants. - TMZ photographers take pictures with their phones, never mind that they're papparazzi that use professional photo equipment. - No other adult in the classroom could possibly have taken a low-res picture with their phone and forwarded it to TMZ. - If it's a rumour, it must be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. - People that watch porn movies seem to be less likely to be supportive of former porn stars when they try to go on with their lives.
I think "wraithlead" is probably right when he says that someone at the school simply recognized dear Sasha as Sasha-The-Grey.....I know I would....So unless the haters can add more meat to the bones of their publicity stunt theory----I'm going with one of the lady teachers as the source of the photos......And if it turns out it was orchestrated to gain Sasha additional attention----big fucking deal-----the kids got paid---she got paid---and I got paid.
According to "Christine Whitley at chicagonow.com" Sasha introduced herself at the school as Marina Hantzis------which might explain why the school's rep was telling inquiring minds subsequently that no one calling herself Sasha Grey had visited them....but as I mentioned earlier..a Google search using her real name gets you as much or more juice as one relying on her famous name...

lol, times sure are getting desperate. I guess the memo has finally arrived to her, that the 5min of mainstream fame are over? The stunt she and her team pulled with the children reading and all, I guess didn't win her as much publicity and jobs as she might've hoped. Trying way to hard to stay in the news and relevant..way too hard. Edited by - chuckthefreak on 3/8/2012 7:45:22 PM
I wonder if it was Sasha who modelled for the posters that go with the campaign? It says: "Close the wage gap, become a porn actress" The whole campaign seems a bit bizarre and confused. But then so are the statistics and arguments behind "Equal Pay Day", so I suppose it fits.
They're pointing out that porn is one of the few industries in which women make as much as, or more than, men, as a way of deploring the inequality generally.
^That may be what they're trying to say, but it's misleading and incoherent. It makes it sound like women are paid 20%+ less than men while doing the same job. They don't actually use the slogan "equal pay for equal work", but Sasha's PSA and the whole concept of Equal Pay Day as "the day until which women have to work extra to earn, on a yearly basis, as much as what their male colleagues received in but one year", make it seem like that's what they're fighting for. Dig a little deeper and this turns out to be bullshit, with the statistics they use (average annual wage) actually telling a different story. In fact, most of the wage gap is down to women working shorter hours (on average), and just removing part time workers from the calculation drops the pay gap from 22% to 10%. Adjust for the different choices men and women make (such as more women majoring in the humanities in college, rather than studying science or engineering) and the pay gap more or less disappears.

That ad clearly has an anti-porn viewpoint, it's seems to be saying that it's deplorable that the 'only' way for women to make equal pay is to perform in 'degrading' pornography. I'm surprised Sasha agreed to appear in it, her comments and the intertitles seem at cross-purposes, but I guess it shows the difficulty of trying to 'mainstream' porn.
I think you should watch it again because the main thrust of the PSA is that porn is one of those rare industries where there is equal pay. Actually it's one of the industries where the women make more than the men. She specificaly says that she chose to do porn eventhough she had many other career opportunities. She claims to have been a nurse who made more money than doctors so that tells me that she didn't need to do porn but chose to. I think the PSA is beyond weird and I'm not sure for which market it was made for but it's not anti-porn.
^The advert itself might be ambiguous (even with them saying "find a better alternative" at the end), but the text that goes with it is hardly pro-porn:
To me, just reading that, it does make her sound like a victim. Anyway, they should speak for themselves. There are a hell of lot of things I'd do for all the money in the world...
^Sorry but I have a hard time believing that Sasha was ever a victim of her porn life. I always got the feeling that she did exactly what she wanted, with whomever she wanted and for as long as she wanted. She certainly left on her own terms and while she was still very popular. She has managed to never look back.
