If the audience wasn't mostly made up of creepy single dudes Click to expand My wife and I saw it (again--we also did the Amazon VOD thing) late last night at the Sunshine Cinema down on Houton St. in Manhattan--which is funny b/c the theater itself is referenced in the film. That got a bit of a laugh from the audience. I agree with Anime Nut about seeing Sasha on the silver screen--awesome. As one might expect, it's a lot better experience seeing it on the big-screen than on one's television set / computer, but either way, it's a really good movie (IMHO). One nice thing about where we saw it, which was kind of the opposite of what Anime Nut found in his experience, was that there were a lot of women in the audience, too. It was pretty much the type of crowd that I would have expected at an artsy theater of this sort--younger, artsy people--mostly couples...but there were some guys there in pairs and by themselves, too. The theater was about half(ish) full--which wasn't bad for a 10:30 pm show--but the last showing right after ours had a huge line. I got the impression that there was something special about midnight showings at the Sunshine Cinema. It was a really nice way to cap off a day of walking around Canal St., China Town, and Little Italy down there. Kudos to Sasha on a great achievement and a great movie. [Link]

I'm interested in seeing what escorts themselves think of the film, and how Sasha portrayed a woman in their profession. I've seen a complaint about how unrealistic it is to have her immediately fall for a client, but no real reviews from an escort's perspective. Personally I thought that Sasha did a good job; it's an interesting film with a couple of great moments, and definitely worth seeing once. It has to be among the least negative portrayals of prostitution on film. How many other films featuring a prostitute as a main character end without her either dead or "saved"? [Link]
