I find it pretty interesting that when LP is talked here it always turns to tubesites etc. But when Mindgeeks sites are talked about the focus is not on tubesite stuff. But you usually see the same 10+ people posting 90% of the LP posts anyway.

-First of all, that avatar can be offensive to some people regardless of the story of the charcter it represents (personally reminds me all that silly early Hollywood mute movies with white people painted as blacks just to avoid the real ones in the films), there are some images that are not appropiate in my modest opinion because they can be considered offensive, but everybody is entitled to have their personal tastes. -Second this post is about LP, if you like it or not and why. Since the same people are everywhere selling it's advantages (and supposed quality), and since there is not much other possitive comments from other sources than them, the answer is quite obvious at this stage. -3rd, there is not so many blacks in eastern Europe, there are a few is true, because (mostly russians but other countries in the area are similar) are very xenophobic (most of the rare black population that are in russia came from the old cold war days when Russia took in some african countries children for exchange educational programs and I can assure you they weren't so lucky in the colleges ), not only with blacks, but non russians in general, black people in those countries are associated with americans (whom many still hate) or african people (who they despise because think of them as poor and the like), all that change if these black people are showing off cash like there's no tomorrow then they are well threated. Most of the male black/north african talent you shaw in the early sineplex days, where french nationals or from french colonies, a few had some contacts in the industry and move around, they fly from France or Belgium, stay for a few weeks, film a lot of scenes and return back to their countries for a while. After they spent the cash, the whole circus start again.
^ The character has been around for 16 years and in all that time, to the best of my knowledge and awareness, there hasn't been a single complaint about it. I guess if you're just seeing an image out of context and know nothing about the character or the show in which he features, I can kind of see why some might get uptight. However, as a fan of TLOG, I chose the avatar with complete innocence and never even considered it might cause offence. I certainly resent Jedi Master Bates calling me an "asshole" because of it but I'm not gonna start trading insults; I just wanna get along with people on here. Anyway, why are we even discussing this? As you said, this is a thread about LP. Let's get back on topic. You are doing a grave disservice to Eastern Europe by suggesting that everyone there is a xenophobic bigot. Of course there are plenty of fascist white nationalists in Eastern Europe, but we shouldn't generalize and accuse all of Eastern Europe of being no different than Western Ukraine. There are varying degrees of fascist sympathies and xenophobia in Eastern Europe depending on the country, city, town, village, hamlet, and individual person. There are all sorts of diverse views in Russia, depending on who you talk to and where you're talking to her. Even bigotry may be complex, as you might find someone who hates African blacks and is indifferent to American blacks. We shouldn't paint with a broad brush and oversimplify things.

Knowing the character now, reading up on it, the origin of it (a send-up of a possibly Greek former landlord of the show's participants - so why wouldn't they portray him in blackface?), the response to it and criticism of it, makes me uncomfortable both as a black man and as a human. Just type in papa lazarou into google and the first auto-fill option is "racist". That should tell you that the other poster and myself aren't the only ones who think the character might be problematic. Sure there are comments defending the character (written by white people). But there are also complaints. The actors may not have created the character with the intent of being racist themselves, and in fact were even trying to make fun of the racism of small-town British people, but that doesn't automatically mean that any choice they made is OK. Also, given that The Minstrel Show was still on air in Britain until the late 1970s, this character and its appeal hardly exist in a vacuum. I don't personally subscribe to the school of thought that just because something is comedy, it can't also be problematic. But many do. Frankly, N00dlesDaddy, I'd rather you change your avatar. But I don't run the place so I can't force you to do so.

When I said I wasn't aware of any complaints, I meant that from the perspective of a Brit who's watched this show since its inception in 1998. Sure, it's subversive, kind of like a modern day Monty Python, but I can honestly say I've never come across anything in the media pertaining to this particular character that criticises it for being 'racist' and I've certainly never seen it that way, myself. It's only when you start Googling that you realise some people might have a problem with it, which, frankly, astonishes me. I'm aware of who the character is based on, as to why they 'blacked up' I dunno, you'd have to ask them. I'm going with the theory that it's a grotesque exaggeration of people's prejudices. The one thing I do know with absolute certainty - knowing what I know of TLOG guys - is that there was no malice or intent to racially offend behind the creation of this character. I know you want the conversation to get back on topic, but I wanted to add that I knew what the avatar was and used to watch that show. I cringed a little when I saw the avatar, not only because I thought it would be offensive to many, but also because it is a reminder of how wrong-headed the UK is about race without even realising it a lot of the time. That show is not the only time a British product has used blackface (see Reeves and Mortimer), and the golliwog remained a mascot for Robinson's jam until 2005. The UK has a special, problematic relationship to race and this sort of thing seems to happen a lot. It's embarrassing, especially as I consumed it as a youngster without much reflection. All that to say, yes it is in some way a "UK thing," and more broadly a Western European thing, and I know a number of people who would consider themselves anti-racist who think those shows and their uses of blackface are hilarious. Just my two cents. Carry on! :)

@ Noodles - I never watch tlog but im guessing that if we compare the uk to the usa, race is a massively more sensitive issue in the states than the uk. This may explain Goregirl, kbs and others sensitivity and (from a uk perspective) overeaction to your comedy blackface avatar. The uk has made huge steps in becoming less racist - and comedy acts like tlog and ali G are examples of how mainstream society has marginalised and riduled racism and (goregirl) suggesting that comedy of this type is actually problematic from a racist perspective is a strange standpoint. Having lived in the uk i always find the clasification of porn as interacial a strange concept , In the uk i just dont feel there is that highly profiled awareness about race/color any more. these days the uk is so culturally diverse and generally well integrated that people of different background/colors just intereact without race even registering as an issue. mon 2 pence.

LP has some great scenes and it is nice to see some US beautiful girls, like Hope, working with them. The LP sites are much better for the gonzo stuff like pissing, which is hot if done right. The DAP is more like a circus act, but the focus on anal is always nice. I hope that more US girls work with them soon !! Don't know if the pay is better, but euros always do better than dollars.
