It doesn't make you a pedophile, but addiction to that shit will cause you to do crazy shit to support your habit. It's entirely possible they were filming child porn, which can be pretty lucrative. One of the reports did mention video equipment.
Also drawing a correlation for the sake of causality is not the same thing as making excuses. No one is suggesting that anyone be given a pass based on the circumstances of drug involvement. They are simply drawing a correlation between drug addiction and the propensity for making really bad life choices.

^^. Okay whatever dude! But, Given that 99.9% of the people on this site who post articles such as that do so to support their viewpoint, one would automatically assume that your article was also your viewpoint. Then, when one such as myself responds or calls you on it, you then go line by line responding as you did basically saying but in different words "I didn't say that, or why did respond like that?" So if that article isn't your viewpoint, why'd you post it? Almost sounds like you're trolling.

^I'm not a dude, and I didn't post any articles.
What I wrote is my viewpoint. I meant what I wrote, nothing more, nothing less. Instead of responding to what I actually wrote, you posted a response to your strange misinterpretation of my comment. I then corrected you, and now you're suggesting that I'm trolling.
Every pornstar has video equipment in their house, I don't think they were filming these acts otherwise they would've added child pornography to the charges. They obviously didn't find anything of their computers to support this.
They may very well do this eventually if she's found guilty. Right now she innocent until proven guilty. I don't see websites doing anything until it's official. I know she pled not guilty but they due back in court on Feb 14, I look forward to the updates from their court date.

^^ Thank you morbid - that wasn't posted anywhere.
^ Actually the police did not say if they had discovered any of the supposed acts filmed.
Mercedes statement:
O.K. now the ex husband is an interesting twist and would explain a lot except for one thing: It does not explain what the supposed victim in this case has said and described, items that matched the details/items police found in the residence.

Idt she is innocent. Its like when athletes do stupid shit, I would not want that toxic in my lockeroom...like Kareem Hunt and be was cut hours after video surfaced of him beating a woman. If it was my favorite performer that did this I would have already deleted all her scenes. No excuses no second chances I would be done if my fave performer did something disgusting like this. To each is own but I could not watch a scene of somebody knowing they did such a horrendous crime.
I'm not sure how her statement explains away the article unless she's arguing that the ex somehow planted the evidence they found. But overall I'm not surprised by her statement. If she's pleading not guilty, then obviously she's going to need to create a plausible counter-narrative.

^There were charges pertaining to possessing child pornography? As far as I know her sexual abuse charges are alleged violations of PEN § 288.7(b), 288.5(a) 288a(c)(1) and 288.7(a).
Whoops, my mistake I misread the charges. Although re-reading that AVN article, I still don't see how her statement makes any sense. She's claiming that the charges were masterminded by her ex, but if the reporting in the article is accurate, the investigators were able to identify a specific time-frame and found enough evidence to suspect that there are potentially additional victims. Admittedly I'm not exactly a huge fan of law enforcement in general, but this doesn't strike me as them just taking a random stab at rumors.

^^^ Yes there would have.
However, I was trying not to pre-judge {no, not saying you were or are More charges could be coming. Also remember that hard drives can be formatted and forensics on them, if a format was done well, can take time, if they are able too at all.
I try and look at every breaking story cynically. Half the time the implications overshoot the target. Even with the most duly diligent and dependable media, it's a 50/50 gamble whether the initial report implies too much, or doesn't go far enough for justice, and there's practically a 0% chance it's a perfect summary which final report confirms.
The nature of this story makes me feel ill. It is very tragic. If it's true, we are dealing with broken people. I know that drugs can break people. I lost a close friend to it. I used to do heavy drugs with them, but I was not addicted like they were. It is also as far as I know almost entirely true that they do not make people into pedophiles. To echo MissPornUSA's point, we don't necessarily know if they were pedophiles, even if the charges are true.
It is well understood that for many (maybe most?) cases of pedophilia behavior, the perpetrators were also previously victims. I wonder if either of these two were abused early in life, and harbored psychological trauma. Seems entirely possible, and when you throw in hard drugs like meth, it's a recipe for disastrous breakdown. Was this trauma visited on the daughter because either Mercedes or her husband had experienced it?
This is heartbreaking. That girl will never be the same. It messes up people for life. Obviously she was trapped in a horrible situation and needed to escape. But now where will she go? She will need serious therapy the rest of her life. She could end up a drug addict herself. I really hope they can all be helped.
Wait, where was Carrera's latest statement from? Could the husband have lied or coached the daughter? Or maybe he knew Carrera was on drugs and justifiably worried about the daughter's well being? But I still think it would be extremely difficult for a child to lie about a loved parent and accuse them of what the report states. At the very least this is a suboptimal situation for the kid, and seems more certain that something went very wrong. My first skeptical thought was, could this be a case of exposure of a minor to porn, which I think constitutes sexual abuse? It definitely seems to go much further than that, but it was just my first question when I saw the headlines breaking, because as bad as exposing prepubescent youth to porn is, it's a far cry from physical sexual violation. Let's say Carrera is telling the truth, and there was no physical sexual abuse; could the father still have had reason for concern regarding what the daughter was exposed to? I think so, especially with meth involved.
Or I'm just defensively thinking wishfully for a lesser scenario. Mercedes was a positive voice IMO. She was very informed and highly educated, always seemed sympathetic and principled, even if she took some bold positions that rubbed some people wrong (did anyone substantiate this white supremacist accusation?). I wasn't aware of any recent drama which people refer to. I know she was vocally supportive of gay and trans-community. She was even scheduled to do a scene with TS performer Natalie Mars which was disrupted just by this case. She also supported veterans, attending awards shows or conventions with them as guests. She spread awareness about dealing with disease in the industry. I mean frankly she would have been the last popular porn performer I suspected. But that's what they said about Ted Bundy too, I guess. The last they'd suspect.
I read details about bondage gear and filming equipment (which sounds pretty standard for pro pornographers), but then exposure to drugs and forced oral sex. If it all definitively adds up to the allegations, it makes me want to puke. If it's all true, I hope her father can do everything possible to take care of her and cope. But I hope none of it is true.
I have to say that Brazzers (mindgeek) are one of the worst communicators in the industry. They have zero respect for their subscribers. For example they for the past two years, have made their 2009 content un-view able. My position is that even if she was responsible for the horrible crimes, she is not getting royalties from the website and the character Mercedes Carrera who her dedicated fans love, is different from Melinda Smith, who allegedly did the crimes. I do not want their scenes deleted but Brazzers still have a convicted incarcerated rapist and an actress', who had sex with a 12 year old minor, past content on their site. What they did was wrong, they should rightly be barred from doing further scenes, but their alleged actions while working for them is nothing to do with the company and fans are fantasising about actors in a finite set time frame and not what they allegedly engage in their private lives.
Kevin Spacey's previous House of Cards episodes are still available on Netflix and rightly so. Micheal Jackson's music is still available and there are many other examples. Brazzers and anyone else that deletes her scenes are fucking scum cowards imo.
I believe the abuse happened , why would her daughter tell the police she was abused if nothing happened?

A young girl wanting to please her father? Religious pressure? You have to know that he took her to church regularly, if not more often.
Since police would be highly resistant to interfere were statements not corroborated by found evidence, it's unlikely that they would have arrested them, but stranger things have happened.

^ still hard to believe , a young girl ready to put her mother behind bars for many years and all that for nothing ? then if true when she's of the right age she needs to be punished and imprisoned because is also a crime , and who manipulated her into this.
If true that the girl was coerced into framing her mother, then I apologize to Mercedes in advance.

Religion does some vile shit. Often as or more vile than those they condemn. No way of telling what's going on here but if you don;t at least consider that aspect, IMO you aren't considering every thing that may be in play.

I agree with you. With the exception of a few select scenes I'm basically indifferent to Mercedes' work, and for the most part I ignore her as a public figure. So I'm not speaking as a fan when I say that I don't believe that her work should be censored. What's even more ridiculous is that there is no guilty verdict, and yet if you are correct the cowards have already scrubbed her content from their site. The rush to censorship is disturbing,
As for Brazzers, I'm no longer a subscriber and it's unlikely that I'll ever subscribe to them again after this. They removed Pornstars Punishment without any notice at all, and they've done the same to numerous other scenes. Now this?

What's worse, religion or meth? I guess we'll find out. Sometimes it's hard to remember as porn fans that some religious zealots view us all as pedophile scumbags. This doesn't help. I hope it's just a custody battle gone tragic because as bad as that is for the kid, the alternative is so much worse. Sad all around.

If the child said, for example, that she was abused with a sex toy, and she was able to describe that toy and its use in detail and lead the detectives to its location in the house, that would be "evidence." Yet none of that would actually prove that she was abused with that sex toy. That she was abused with the sex toy would not be the only probable explanation for her knowledge about the toy's function and its location. In other words, that the cops and the prosecution apparently believe they have good evidence doesn't mean that much to me until that evidence is presented in court and the defense has had the opportunity to respond. It's entirely possible that there is slam dunk evidence against Mercedes and her husband, but it's also possible that the defense might expose the evidence as weak. We don't know yet.

If he's even involved in this at all, we don't know if Mercedes' ex knew about the meth or had suspicions. There are all sorts of reasons why he may have wanted sole custody of his daughter. It's hard to reasonably speculate when we don't have any facts about him.

The "Because the police and the DA said so" narrative you're pushing is itself very right wing. It's the kind of thinking that prevented Darren Wilson from being indicted.

I completely agree with the last 4 points. My main point was that we don't know, so to not consider every possible angle is short sighted. Of course we could all stop speculating and wait for facts, but where's the fun in that?
I'm a parent and if I knew that my daughter lives in an environment where custom pornographic videos are shot where drug use is apparent, I'd fight tooth and nail to get custody of my kid. I wouldn't go to the extreme that her father did but I'd definitely bring out the torches and go to battle. Fuck that!
I don't know what the legal situation in the US is, but here in the UK it's illegal to identify the victim of a sexual assault. I'd be surprised if the American judicial system doesn't take a similar position. By sharing these rumours, and assuming they're true, you're effectively identifying her. I'd strongly suggest you (or a moderator) delete every single reference that could identify the victim, just to be on the safe side legally.
Even if the sexual abuse allegations turn out to be false, the methamphetamine and gun possession charges will still result in prison time. It is possible the father of the victim coached her to lie to the police about the sexual abuse, but unless he also planted the drugs and guns in Mercedes' house, she's still in serious trouble.

^^ It was in her own released statement. No one here "leaked" anything that wasn't already public knowledge.
The circumstances are completely different here, and it's baffling you'd bring that up. That case (and many others like it) is a result of institutional racism and the blue wall, cops protecting their own no matter what. it's a broken system for certain folks and dire need of reform and accountability.
what does any of that have to do with a couple of *alleged child predators?

^^In an old New York Times editorial, Grand Juries: Wasteful and Pointless, Sol Wachtler wrote:
In Wilson's case, the prosecutor didn't want an indictment from the grand jury, so there was none. Why? Because incidentally he and Wilson were on the same side in a one-sided affair.
"Because the police and the DA said so" isn't good enough for a democracy, and it's frightening that people who have such a one-sided view may end up on juries.
I'm not sure anyone here is suggesting that "the cops say so. Lock 'em up without a trial". But drawing comparisons between child sex abuse allegations, and extrajudicial killings of black suspects is bad form. If for no other reason, there is a massive factor at play in the latter. District Attorneys are historically almost never willing to bring criminal charges against local police departments. And are motivated not to, as they don't want to jeopardize their relationship with the same people they rely on to bring them cases. Is it possible this whole situation was set-up by her ex as a stunt to gain custody? It's possible, but that seems like a lot of work to A) Coach the child into coming up with a story & time-frame B) Plant, or offer enough circumstantial evidence to suggest that there might be additional victims, and C) Convince the DA to prosecute. If this was a simple custody dispute, the possession of methamphetamine with a loaded gun would seal the deal without any extra work.

I'm glad they did. Hopefully other sites will do the same. I don't believe a word Mercedes has to say from her statement. Idt the young girl would lie about something like this. If she was older you can make an argument she lied but not a child. Plus the evidence they found is damming. Of course Mercedes is going to deny it. Everyone that does something wrong denies it. Look at that scumbag from Colorado that killed his wife and two daughters last summer. He kept denying it until he came clean. Mercedes should keep her mouth shut at this point to the public at least.
If someone's overriding concern when hearing about a performer being accused of child sexual abuse is "I'm mad that companies may start shelving her scenes" I'm gonna go ahead and suggest they re-evaluate what the primary issue here is.

^^^That Wilson escaped indictment is a notable, memorable example of the one-sided "prosecutors and cops" approach of the grand jury system.
Mary Turck wrote the article It is time to abolish the grand jury system in 2016:
When the prosecution wants an indictment from a grand jury, cops are called to provide testimony in support of an indictment. When the prosecution does not want an indictment, cops are called to provide testimony in opposition to an indictment.
George E. Curry noted in U.S. should abolish grand jury system:
So that's the one-sided "prosecutors and cops" approach.
Now, what did I say to SkyHigh in response? I told him that the "Because the police and the DA said so" narrative he's pushing is the kind of thinking that prevented Darren Wilson from being indicted. Criticizing the thinking that fuels grand juries and severely undermines our justice system isn't bad form, and that's what I'm doing.
I have no idea whether or not Mercedes was set-up, have no knowledge of the "circumstantial evidence to suggest that there might be additional victims" and therefore no opinion on any such evidence, and I don't believe that Mercedes' ex convinced the DA to prosecute her. I don't know if Mercedes' ex knew about the guns or meth and don't have an opinion on that either way.
Shocking stuff, I wonder how this all turns out as all the theories are made. But what I could do without are the ridiculous assumptions like Mercedes has conservative views therefore she is a white supremacist, or the little girl was brought up as a christian so therefor she must be a religious fundamentalist.
Unless I missed something earlier, SkyHigh's point was that if the DA decided to move ahead with prosecution then that must mean they found "evidence of something fucked up". I don't think that was indicating that it now means the entire thing is open and shut thus no need for deliberation and trial. Also I'm pretty sure nobody here is suggesting that the grand jury system functions appropriately, but that's where the similarities between Darren Wilson and a child sex abuse case begin and end (a DA not wielding the grand jury against its own police department are an apples to oranges comparison with a DA and a police department potentially colluding with a disgruntled ex). Anyway, nobody can make a definitive judgement without a trial. But that doesn't necessitate anyone assuming the best.

^SkyHigh said there's "not a chance" that Mercedes was set-up by her ex, said that Mercedes and her husband were being held without bail because they were "up to some serious shit" and he predicted that right-winger racists "are in for a world of hurt."
"Because the police and the DA said so" thinking is what it is, whether expressed online or manifested in the form of a grand jury.
I'm not assuming the best.
