^Would you say that Brazzers, for instance, is in the mid-range in terms of quality, or would you rate them higher? They're mostly standardized on 24 fps with 12,000 bit rate.
For HD content, Brazzers is pretty good, but the large file sizes don't help them any, especially with older computers that can't handle the high-bitrate, though those customers probably aren't paying for their porn to begin with if they are stuck on older PCs, so it's a moot point. To be frank, I don't think they have any intention of going to 4K until 2020 or later, though I would not be surprised if they were actually shooting 4K and simply releasing HD downloads at this point. I haven't watched any current/recent Brazzers files, so I couldn't tell you if they are doing that, but it's possible. The only real block for 4K is the lack of a suitable codec for releasing 4K content with lower file sizes, as HEVC is locked down by patent trolls who want to collect per-download revenue. AV1 is supposed to be locked in this year and it's royalty-free, so the adult industry needs to start using it ASAP, because it's FUCKING FREEEEEEEEEEEE! The downside of AV1 is that it requires significantly more time and resources to encode footage, so it won't be a very useful thing until the encoding software is optimized or someone develops great encoding hardware.
Quick update on Brazzers. I went to download the Ariana Marie scene that posted just a few days ago and found to my surprise that the Bit Rate is down in the 6000 range, as opposed to 12,000, which has been their standard for years now. I can't say I'm pleased about it, though to be fair I'm not an expert at all the ins and outs of video quality.
^ I noticed the bit rate drop too. Looks to be a permanent move as the last 6 scenes are only available at 6M. Really disappointing. I hope MindGeek don't roll this out on their other sites too.
It's possible they have opted to use a more efficient encoder setup. There are a few highly optimized H.264 commercial encoders on the market that can produce HQ video files at lower bit-rates than the average encoder, which just uses the most simple of encoding techniques and algorithms. It's also possible that they realized they were getting nothing tangible from 12K and switched it to 6K. If you watch the file on an HDTV and it looks great to you, there's no reason to complain about it in the end.

Yeah, like I said, I don't know the ins and outs and all the various factors that can contribute to the end user's perception of video quality.
Definately mid-range, their 1080 content feels outdated, at least it felt like it after I watched some of the Bangbros vids in 1080 from last year. The file sizes are huge given the quality isn't even all that either. Something they need to improve upon. Also them releasing 4K content wouldn't be a great idea for the amount of scenes they release, not unless they can get a handle on those video sizes first.
I started shoot in 4 K beginning of 2014 and put online 4 K in 20M mb/s on my site since that time but always in 25 or 29,97 Fps. From may this year maybe I will start to put the 4K in 30 mb/s with 50 or 60 Fps as I will use a new camera soon ... PW
You need to look at who is subscribing to your sites and how they are viewing your videos. Americans don't need or want 25fps video files because we can't really play those back properly on our PCs or TVs due to the odd frame rate. It just doesn't work on our electronics. In the UK and Europe, TVs have either a 50hz (HDTV) or 100hz (UHDTV) refresh rate because broadcasters are still stuck on PAL and those sets rely on motion processing to display content not shot in 25/50, though they can accept such content by design. However, it's likely that your European subscribers are watching your content on their desktops/laptops/tablets, which means you can use the 24/30/60 rates because that's what the global standard for video content really is and that's what computers use in every country. So do a member survey on your site or twitter or whatever works for you and figure it out from there.
After 9 years my sites exist and having americans as biggest number of members there, it's first time someone tell me this ... NO ONE COMPLAIN ABOUT POSSIBILITY TO READ MY VIDEO I shoot with a 29,97 fps US camera 4K at the moment but all is re-compressed automaticaly by the servers in 25 fps but I never get a single complain ... I think most people today are using computers or mobiles to watch porn because the TV never give a good image from internet content, but it doesn't explain all !!! PW
How do we not have Evil Angel 4K yet? I can only imagine how hot the girls in Jonni Darrko scenes will look like. Some of the best video filmed is by him. Gag Reflex 3, just look how amazing Aidra Fox looks in this scene. It's crystal clear, in 1080p, can only imagine what 4K Darrko would look like! Love the extreme close angles he incorporates.
^ You have to either be joking or happy with tube site quality 1080p videos. Evil Angel has some of the worst 1080P out there, encoded by a third party company on their behalf, and they encapsulate SD quality in HD resolution. I love EA, but will never give them another dime until they make watchable 1080P! If they did offer 4k videos, I imagine it would be very low bitrate as well! Video quality is very important to me have been a member of Brazzers for over three years just waiting for my subscription to run out and will not re-new. Evil Angel is a site that has some great content but I let my subscription laps due to the video quality I'm just not going to pay any site with poor quality video anymore its 2018. But I am a member of Evil Angels sister site Blackmailed.com and its 4K high bit rate and look great. I don't know why more people don't complain about video quality and there are a lot of sites I would join if they had better video quality like Pure Taboo 1080P @ only 5000Kbps. But yet if you look at some of the BTS on there twitter lots of hi-end cameras and a lot of production values ruined buy the download quality available it just seems crazy to me. Sometimes I might contact a site on there Twitter or feedback form and the answer is usually no one complains your the only one. So more people need to complain. I am happy to pay more if I have to as I have spoken to some sites that have been decent enough to reply like Jordan from Bang Bros that now have decent 4K. Also spoke to tech support from Blacks On Blondes they will be going 4K and he was great and explained its more expensive than what I thought and no one complained so it wasn't worth it to but lately people have so it will at least be an option.

Brazzers bit rates seems to be plummeting even further. I just downloaded two scenes below 5000 kbps.
I tend to find most sites these days look like they've been filmed on a smartphone camera. 21Sextury were one of the worst culprits despite being pioneers in the HD era several years ago, looks like they've recently improved video quality though, still not 4K mind. Net Video Girls offers 4K but at low bit rate so sent an email and got a reply next day and said would double it but people need to comment on it so he knows its worth while. So anyone that's a member please send an email that you want it to stay. At least they listened and replied unlike Brazzers that am actually looking forwarded to my membership running out.
Any studio offering 4K content at a premium price can fuck right off. Should be standard. No other site does this with the exception of Bangbros and now these guys.
To be fare the hosting costs are quite expensive a lot more than what I thought, and a lot of sites that have 4K the file is so heavily compressed good 1080P would look a lot better. I am glade the option is there and the 1080P at the same bit rate is still there so you don't loos anything.
Looks like Evil Angel has their first 4k release. Johnni Darkko's "Angela by Darkko" staring Angela White I'm going to have to check this out. Love me some Darkko. Hope there's more to come quickly.
FameDigital has 4K content too. Looks reasonably decent, these big studios still can't get it 100% right, PerfectGonzo, Dorcel and PJGirls have the best 4K vids, they actually look like 4K and not upscaled 1080.
Their 4K videos are an utter disgrace. I haven't checked it very recently, but I do know as of mid-way into 2018 their 4K vids looked terrible, better off sticking to high quality 1080. In fact you could probably say that about most these sites offering 4K, pair it with MadVR and you'll notice fuck all difference between 1080 and 4K whilst saving yourself a load of harddrive space. Very few sites are offering the full potential, mainly because 4K is such a large file size it doesn't become worth it, and no one seems to know how to encode them properly either.
Anything new, especially for 60 fps? There's a new site called 5Kporn that looks interesting and features 60 fps. Anyone else doing it now? Also, any good HDR content?
What would that accomplish? Streaming only sites have their content pirated within hours anyhow. Taking away the ability for customers to download scenes is only punishing the paying customer and more likely to drive them to torrent and tube sites
I think 4K is reasonably well adopted, the extra bandwidth costs are viable (for companies and consumers), and it markets well. The downside is the download time.
Companies may think, if 4K download numbers are lower than we want, then the files are too big, so we'll degrade them or just get rid of them. In some cases, costs may too play in to the decision, like just the cost of making the file and posting it.
But honestly, I don't know. In my experience professionally, which isn't representative, the strategy is why bother...yet. That said, the pattern of 4K adoption looks a lot like HD. We'll get there.
It's only worth it if the quality is sufficient. The file sizes and general video quality of 4K content from Cherry Pimps and DogFart are still fucking horrendous. It's an actual disgrace. Grainy softened picture which looks barely any better than their 1080p offerings. I had a few PerfectGonzo scenes on my old HDD which were about 16-17GB big, enormous sizes, but you couldn't knock the crystal clear quality.
DDF had a similar issue when they introduced 4K but they quickly ironed out the flaws in their grainy picture. Another problem with alot of these companies is their scenes tend to last about 10-15 minutes too long, also contributes to their hilarious video sizes, especially as they have zero idea how to actually encode them.
I have to commend Brazzers for what they did with their standard HD content, smaller file sizes but superior quality to the shit they were putting out a few years ago (3Gb for awful quality), if they ever went 4K I think they'd properly encode their videos to eliminate those issues.
On another note - why did no one ever adopt 1440p? Best of both worlds really.
Can't speak for 5k porn but agree re PornFidelty. Unfortunately though they're just like everyone else who make annoyingly long scenes.
How many people actually watch a 40+ minute scene? Genuinely don't think i've ever gone past 15 minutes on one scene alone, I don't have the time or the patience.
Nah. I'm all for long scenes. I may not watch it linearly, but more footage the better. Those kinds of scenes with cuts for sake condensing the scene feel rushed.
Wow, had to test it out and 4K 60 frames per second is absolutely perfect. Crystal clear on my 4K TV. Tried Rebel Rhyder's round 2 and it's spectacular. 31 gb file but plug it into my LG OLED and its the best picture I've seen so far. Hope this becomes the norm Duke.
I have just discovered that the Fantasy Massage Network (Nuru, Soapy, All-Girl, Tricky Spa, etc.) has been shooting their scenes in 4K for some time now. I can't say for how long they have been doing that, but they are now offering 4K downloads on the sites. I initially thought they weren't because the 2019 site reviews had no mention of 4K downloads and it seemed like the compilation vids on the VOD sites were where they were putting the 4K content, but the newer 2020 reviews of the sites say that they are now offering 4K downloads.
