| Simple Simon Senior Member 12302 Posts 2/15 | "American Media, Inc., the publisher of the National Enquirer, had paid a hundred and fifty thousand dollars for exclusive rights to McDougal’s story, which it never ran. Purchasing a story in order to bury it is a practice that many in the tabloid industry call “catch and kill.” This is a favorite tactic of the C.E.O. and chairman of A.M.I., David Pecker, who describes the President as “a personal friend.” As part of the agreement, A.M.I. consented to publish a regular aging-and-fitness column by McDougal. After Trump won the Presidency, however, A.M.I.’s promises largely went unfulfilled, according to McDougal." "Six former A.M.I. employees told me that Pecker routinely makes catch-and-kill arrangements like the one reached with McDougal. “We had stories and we bought them knowing full well they were never going to run,” Jerry George, a former A.M.I. senior editor who worked at the company for more than twenty-five years, told me. George said that Pecker protected Trump. “Pecker really considered him a friend,” George told me. “We never printed a word about Trump without his approval.” Maxine Page, who worked at A.M.I. on and off from 2002 to 2012, including as an executive editor at one of the company’s Web sites, said that Pecker also used the unpublished stories as “leverage” over some celebrities in order to pressure them to pose for his magazines or feed him stories. " That last sentence is amazing. Magazine companies allegedly blackmail celebs. Wow! Edited by - Simple Simon on 2/16/2018 12:42:54 PM |

| Simple Simon Senior Member 12302 Posts 2/15 | "used the unpublished stories as “leverage” over some celebrities in order to pressure them to pose for his magazines or feed him stories" No, I seriously did not know this. Interestingly, I just went to the two links Farrow gave in that article supporting this quote, and neither of them seemed to claim the magazine told a celebrity they had dirt on them, and would publish it unless said celebrity posed for their magazine or gave them dirt on other celebrities. (But, I did see this "When Donald Trump decided to run for President, some people at the Enquirer assumed that the magazine would apply the same scrutiny to the candidate’s colorful personal history. “We used to go after newsmakers no matter what side they were on,” a former Enquirer staffer told me. “And Trump is a guy who is running for President with a closet full of baggage. He’s the ultimate target-rich environment. The Enquirer had a golden opportunity, and they completely looked the other way.” Throughout the 2016 Presidential race, the Enquirer embraced Trump with sycophantic fervor. The magazine made its first political endorsement ever, of Trump, last spring. Cover headlines promised, “donald trump’s revenge on hillary & her puppets” and “top secret plan inside: how trump will win debate!” The publication trashed Trump’s rivals, running a dubious cover story on Ted Cruz that described him as a philanderer and another highly questionable piece that linked Cruz’s father to the assassination of John F. Kennedy. It was even tougher on Hillary Clinton, regularly printing such headlines as “ ‘sociopath’ hillary clinton’s secret psych files exposed!” A 2015 piece began, “Failing health and a deadly thirst for power are driving Hillary Clinton to an early grave, The National Enquirer has learned in a bombshell investigation. The desperate and deteriorating 67-year-old won’t make it to the White House—because she’ll be dead in six months.” On election eve, the Enquirer offered a special nine-page investigation under the headline “hillary: corrupt! racist! criminal!” This blatantly skewed coverage continued after Trump took office. Post-election cover stories included “trump takes charge! success in just 36 days!” and “proof obama wiretapped trump! lies, leaks & illegal bugging.” Pecker and Trump have been friends for decades—their professional and personal lives have intersected in myriad ways—and Pecker acknowledges that his tabloids’ coverage of Trump has a personal dimension." Isn't this basically the same thing? * I used females rather than women as often this involves minors. |

The source of the $130,000 has also not been revealed, the complaint argues, and any individual who contributes over $200 to a campaign must disclose his or her identity. Since donations from corporations to federal candidates are prohibited, the complaint urges the DOJ and FEC to investigate the source." | FlacFan Deactivated User 10088 Posts 8/15 | Again, while it does show a supposed low morality, the fact that he did it isn't what's bad here. Nixon wasn't involved and had no prior knowledge of Watergate. He got in trouble for covering up and lying about it. Clinton didn't get in trouble {yes imo he should have resigned} because he played hide the cigar in the oval, office. He got in trouble for lying about it. Here, Trump and a paper protecting him paid 1 woman to silence her and bought another story to bury it on the eve of the election. The later is arguably unethical. The former is/could be witness tampering. Furthermore, Trump lied again because he never signed non-disclosure agreement. Since both parties did not sign in it, it is void. Not only is Stormy free to talk, he paid her 130,000.00 for no reason and dug his own hole. Trump fucked himself. Edited by - FlacFan on 3/9/2018 8:53:44 AM |

| FlacFan Deactivated User 10088 Posts 8/15 | Then why was there a line on the NDA for Two-Scoops signature? |
| FlacFan Deactivated User 10088 Posts 8/15 | |
| whatsatelephonebill Senior Member 2935 Posts 10/11 | First of all, it wouldn't be witness tampering, because she isn't a witness, because sleeping with her wasn't a crime. If there's an illegal act here, it'll be mostly about whether the payment was correctly processed/labeled in terms of whether it was a donation from Cohen or it came from Trump or his organization. Second, Cohen, as Trump's lawyer, can sign documents on behalf of Trump. It doesn't matter if Trump didn't sign it if he admits that Cohen was signing it on his behalf. But for him to admit that, he'd have to admit that he knew about it and allowed Cohen to sign on his behalf. And his story the entire time has been that it didn't happen and he didn't know about the agreement, and if he didn't know about the agreement how could Cohen have signed it on his behalf? So basically Trump either admits the story is true and validates the papers, or he continues to say he never knew anything about this and the papers are invalid and she can talk to whomever she wants. | FlacFan Deactivated User 10088 Posts 8/15 | Agreed on your first point, though I still feel it is a cover-up. As to Cohen signing, I would think Trump would have to have given him power of attorney in order for that to be valid, further more on the document, there is a signature line for Two-Scoops autograph. Sunny actually screwed up by not having his signature on the document before signing. The fact that it isn;t signed means that Trump paid her 130,000.00 for no reason at all. He's trapped. He can deny it all day long, but if in fact his lawyer, as you state, was acting on his behalf, then he signed it. If he wasn't acting on his behalf, then why hasn't the WH denied that there was a pay off and contusing to claim they won in court, which they haven't. If theres nothing to deny and Cohen isn't working on Trumps behalf, Why a secret restraining order to keep her quiet? You can't honestly believe that he does anything without having discussions with Two-Scoops 1st. Innocent people do not do this and a lawyer acting on their behalf doesn't either. | Simple Simon Senior Member 12302 Posts 2/15 | " Reading her entire ouevre, her responses seem exactly like comments crafted only by someone who has spent her life in a career that puts women in vulnerable positions: naked on stage, naked in front of a camera. Someone who has learned that angry men often can't be shouted at because it will only make them angrier. (Nor can they be ignored, as that, too, will make them angrier.) Angry men have to be teased and purred at, in a self-deprecating way, even when the goal is to get them to leave. In other words: You don't get to be an adult performer without learning how to handle men. And Daniels knows how to handle them all the way out the door. Her best smackdowns are impossible to fully appreciate now because the men they were directed at have deleted their original insults, presumably embarrassed by the verbal beating." stormy-daniels-and-the-art-of-dealing-with-twitter-trolls |
| CummingLinguist All-Star Member 5908 Posts 11/11 | 1) The cover story is extremely shaky. First of all, Sarah Sanders has all but confirmed that Trump was a party to the NDA. Second, it's implausible that a lawyer would just pay someone $130,000 on behalf of his client without the expectation of being repaid. This whole affair has the odor of money laundering. Some have argued that Trump has been laundering money for Russian plutocrats for years, and Mueller is reportedly looking into the money laundering angle. 2) If the cover story holds up, Cohen might be in a lot of trouble. Lawyers are required to keep their clients reasonably informed about their work. Cohen has been one of Trump's closest associates for over ten years. I don't know if he'll take a bullet for Trump, but my guess is he won't. 3) There is also the FEC complaint that the $130,000 was an unreported in-kind donation. Similarly, the property Daniels turned over Trump should have been listed as assets the campaign held. If this goes to court, then the property (including videos, photos, and text messages) would no doubt be considered evidence. ![]() 4) We already know that Trump sexually harasses women. The people who voted for him decided to disregard the issue. He might also have some weird sexual peccadillos. I'm not saying he's a pedophile, but he's said some weird things about his daughter. Nor am I giving credence to the alleged pee-tape, but his sexuality is coming under scrutiny again, and I personally think there's something weird about the guy. (See point (3) regarding photos and videos.) 5) When the Access Hollywood tape came out, 16 women (including Jessica Drake) came forward to say, "Me too." Stormy may not be the only woman who chose blackmail over public shaming. If this goes to court, then any of them could get immunity for their testimony. If any of them choose to testify, the last thing Trump would want to do is get them angry by trying to enforce any other NDAs that might be out there. 6) The National Enquirer paid Playboy model Karen McDougal $150,000 for exclusive rights to her story, and then quashed it. It seems possible that this isn't the only time they've done this. If they see that Trump is going down, they may decide to cash in by publishing what they have on him. ![]() 7) Every time new evidence of the sliminess of the Trump gang has come to light, it always raises the question of whether Trump is subject to blackmail. That question is now answered. Remember North Korea was able to hack Sony Pictures. Do you really think no foreign government is capable of hacking Trump.com? 8) And of course: The media loves this stuff. |
| Simple Simon Senior Member 12302 Posts 2/15 | "The Stormy episode is exactly the kind of embarrassing episode that Trump wiggled out of for decades, denying that he knew women who accused him, playing the legal and media angles to kill stories, getting the help of friends and employees to pay off women. But times have dramatically changed, post-Weinstein." donald-trump-the-first-porn-president |

| youngrphoto Senior Member 3539 Posts 3/14 | But, you're right. Nobody cares about Stormy and Donald. The group that at least claims to have the high moral ground, the white Evangelicals, still love Trump with boundless enthusiasm. If THEY don't care, I don't know who would. With Republicans controlling the House, Senate, Supreme Court, Justice Department, FBI, Military, Treasury, and much of the press, I see zero dollars being spent on this. I see zero dollars being spent on investigating whether campaign finance laws were broken. Republicans will likely dominate and control the United States for decades to come. This is just a blip. |
