Trump has more money than Stormy, so he's hoping he can drag this out until she gives up. If he can drag it out until 2020 (or 2024 if he gets reelected) then they can settle for an undisclosed amount. He is also asking for a change of venue from California to a federal court. No doubt there will be many many more motions filed. This strategy often works, and is often deployed by the wealthy. It may not work for Trump, because there are a lot of very wealthy people who want to bring him down. Stormy can just set up a fund, so people can help her pay her legal bills. [Link]

If Trump gets investigated and he lies to legal authorities or engages in other behavior to cover up the scandal, he would be at risk of being impeached, or possibly even removed from office, on similar grounds. Considering Trump and Republicans got a lot of support from the religious right (i.e. the people who claim to care about morality), this scandal could damage his support from voters who aren't fans of adultery. Also, some people were disgusted with Hillary because of her husband's misconduct and/or her sticking with him after the fact. The Trump situation with Stormy Daniels seems to indicate that he's acted in a manner that's at least as bad. [Link]

So the story being reported was NOT that Trump was accusing the Kremlin of a shakedown. Either way, Trump had been blackmailed by Stormy as recently as October. Given who Trump is, the fairly routine bickering over venue could be seen as a step in an ongoing conspiracy to obstruct justice. [Link]
