Would you want to listen to a show about three women destroying a mysterious Norwegian man's stamp collection? Well, that happens at the end of episode 2. At the end of Episode 3 a woman becomes convinced that she played a part in a murder committed by an Italian priest. In this Louis Theroux documentary he re-visits the porn industry 15 years after his first and it focuses on male stars. Features include the demise of the huge profits the industry used to make before tube sites fucked it over; and rather poignant contributions from Tommy Gunn about the real difficulties in having a private meaningful relationship, and others over the suicide of John Dough. It also has interviews with Kagney Linn Karter and her non-porn partner about a shoot she was doing that he wasn't particulary happy with. Quote of the piece is Ben English's admin assistant who, when asked if she'd be happy to let her daughter go into porn, replied emphatically 'no' she wouldn't want her daughter to be "a whore"! A strange comment from someone in the industry to put on film for her company's performers to see, not withstanding the fact that the two jobs aren't the same anyway. I was hoping Theroux would challenge her on her choice of words but if he did it didn't appear in the programme.
I listened to this recently. A lot of the stories and info I already knew, but it was well put together in terms of narrative and flow. Jenteal said on her Twitter several months back that she was going to be in After Porn Ends 3. I guess Tera Patrick dropped her unreasonable fee that she demanded for the first one. I wish they could've gotten Celeste (the popular one from the 90s) to do one of them. She was close to doing the first one, but didn't want to go into detail to where or what she was doing with her life after porn so the director nixed it.
I saw a couple titles mentioned like this, but there are also those documentaries released by companies themselves. Sometimes they are a bit too blantently a marketing vehicle, like one I saw on a news feed recently about ManyVids. Today was a press release from Kelly Madison Media about one that they did (called XXX Documentary). A lot of times, they're not uninteresting. They can be fun to watch. There are ongoing threads cataloging types of movies or scenes. If this is the documentary thread by default, my vote goes to including company sponsored documentaries.
^ The Kelly Madison series is more like a style of porn. They are not "documentaries" exactly. I would like to know which male stars will be in the next APE. Seems as though the series is reducing its scope since the first one. The second one was way less complex. I hope the third brings back the dynamic aspects of the original.

Funny you mention this, I actually started watching the After Porn Series Very informative and intriguing yet if there's one gripe/realization I admittedly have; if you have demons you can't face down or skeletons in your closet that you refuse to deal with - you probably should leave the adult industry alone. Because whatever you are trying to hide will inevitably come to the surface one way or another. I have so much more respect for people like Randy West and Asia who didn't piss on or curse out the industry that made them over those who disparaged it.
Just watched After Porn Ends 3 on Netflix. It was OK. It didn't dive too deep into the lives of the people post-porn. It sort of told their story. How/why they got into porn, how their career went, and what they're up to now. No real nuggets of wisdom to take away from it. It was nice to see Jenteal. Most of the other people I've seen recently in one place or another online. Would I recommend? Sure. It's like listening to a porn podcast or something. A good way to kill an hour or two. But I wouldn't nominate it for any awards or anything.
I watched AFTER PORN ENDS 3 and was sort of disappointed with it. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. I feel this one tried too hard to make everyone's story a happy ending and great time in porn. And with some of the people featured that might have been the case but I don't think it was all good time and fun. That's not to say I want to only her about the good stuff. If everyone presented had a great time in porn and ended up in a great place afterwards I'm happy for them but it just seemed odd to not hear about any real bad experiences. To me it just came across as something a porn studio would put out as opposed to a more objective documentary. I think the first 2 docs gave a more realistic/interesting look at the porn biz. Not all horror stories but not all great stuff. I felt Tera Patrick was really putting on an act because I've heard Tera walk on interviews when asked too much about her porn past. Plus I've heard her ex say Tera wasn't really into sex. On the other hand...most contract girls like Christy Canyon I believe had a good time in porn because they were protected by the studio and had more say so and power over their career.
Looks like it hasn't been mentioned: 2019's "Patron of the Tarts," about Mark Spiegler and the Spiegler Girls legacy. Plenty of really nice insider stuff, interviews galore (Abella Danger, Dana DeArmond, etc.).
At one point Mark calls Jayna Oso his favorite girl of all time (ditto, Mark).
I admit this isn't a documentary, but it doesn't really fit anywhere else that I know of.
There is a movie hitting some theatres and subscription services soon called "Pleasure." While it is fictional, it sounds like a quasi-documentary, quasi-biography of a fictionalized European woman who comes to the US to become a porn star. Mark Spiegler and a "handful of real-life porn professionals" are in it too.
I haven't seen it yet but the review I read makes it sound interesting.

^We discussed Pleasure over at The Feature Side. My response to the film could mostly be summed up as "Meh."
It appears that Planet Sex with Cara Delevingne on BBC Three and Hulu features an episode on porn. In a review of the series for the "Evening Standard", Alexandra Jones wrote:
Have any current or former talents or porn experts who aren't anti mentioned appearing in this episode on social media? I wonder if an attempt was made to be balanced or if it will be the usual anti-porn (or anti hetero-male targeted porn) bullshit.
I think "meh" is probably the best description. It's not terrible but yeah it doesn't really offer anything new in terms of perspective.
As far as docs go BBC had a three episode series called Generation Porn. It followed Gianna Dior, Gia Derza, and Kendra Spade in the first episode and a couple european sites in some of the others. Also included some interviews with regular people on their views. Thought it was pretty interesting.

Okay, so I watched the Planet Sex porn episode I mentioned earlier. I'm not going to cover the entire episode. Instead I'll just hit on a few things that were especially annoying to me. The episode is titled "Pornucopia."
Almost from the get go the viewer is bombarded with a lot of self-righteous moralizing against mainstream porn by Erika Lust. Cara joins in. At one point a bit later Cara mentions that she sexually experimented to a greater extent than she was comfortable with because of what she consumed in porn, and that so have a lot of other women and there's shame around that. Oddly enough, a lot of us women who enjoy mainstream porn, not to speak of irl rough sex, will experience shame from watching this episode and being implicitly made to feel as if we are unhealthy and abnormal.
At one point, Cara mentions that she never knew there were female directors. She says more than once that all lesbian porn, presumably unless it is made by Erika Lust or appears on the MakeLoveNotPorn web site (also approvingly discussed in the episode), is directed by men. The existence of Bree Mills is never acknowledged. For some reason Cara laments that her female friends enjoy male directed lesbian porn.
There's an ignorant assumption running throughout the episode, that Erika Lust verbally reinforces, that if women direct porn they won't direct mainstream style porn. We're left with the ridiculous impression that there exists "good" porn produced by women and the non-hetero community, and the rest is "bad" porn directed by heterosexual men. No one from the mainstream industry is spoken to.
In February I wrote the following comment in a "Polls" thread:
All but a couple of sentences could be applied to this miserable episode of Planet Sex.
