^Watching the porn from the three biggest corporations, we have apparently replaced humans already. In the humans' stead are robots that got really close to matching human behavior before someone showed the bots really stupid Tex Avery cartoons and threw the behavioral algorithms off.
Well, I've been watching lesbian erotica since the early 80's and I do think kissing, fondling and intimacy has been greatly improved upon over the last several decades in scenes. As an avid watcher, I see that most all of the major studios and several indies have incorporated these elements into their scenes consistently, with the leaders being Girlfriends Films, the Adult Time family, Sweetheart Video, and now Slayed which has now become an impressive lesbian content provider (thanks mainly to their talent and the direction of Laurent Sky and Derek Dozer). Once great Reality Kings (in the great Quasar/We Live Together days) were terrific at showcasing these elements, but no more as their content has degraded to "slam bam" toy-driven nonsense. Lesbea, Viv Thomas, Wow Girls, etc. still give good focus on these elements along with Abby Winters. New Sensations/Digital Media both seem to be making a strong comeback into lesbian titles at the moment, thankfully also incorporating solid kissing/intimacy into their scenes, which is great to see.
Anybody miss content from KISS ME GIRL and LEZKISS as much as I do??
So for me, kissing/intimacy is the first and most important element of any quality lesbian scene. I wish all content makers made it their first priority but i do feel that there has been significant improvement over the years in featuring these elements into content. Could there be more? Sure, the more the better but for me, we're light years ahead of quality lesbian content today than we were 2 or more decades ago. Just my 2 cents thrown into this interesting topic.

Let me alter my statement by saying that while you may be correct that there there is still a lot of kissing in recent porn. I would argue that the total amount of time dedicated to said kissing in g/g videos is significantly less than in past decades and it too often lacks passion. Now some of the examples you offered would tend to disprove my statements but would you say these are the norm or the exception. I would tend to think they are the exception.
I agree that kissing has been integrated in the standard package but I'm not so sure about foreplay mostly because I don't know that it exist in most g/g scenes.
P.S: I've been watching porn since the 80's and while there were the odd excellent lesbian scenes back then. The vast majority were not all that good. Most if not all of my favorite lesbian scenes are all from 2000 and onward.
I agree with most of your ideas, especially with pat362 and this part of Lezzyist's post:I'm not sure if the industry became more frivolous (after pandemic) or the past generation of girls and directors were exceptional. It's kind of difficult to describe that feeling properly but I would say something like "The quality of the scenes before pandemic (let's say 2010-2020) is greater than the quality of the new ones (since 2021) on average". I mean, check 10 of your favorite "old" scenes and compare them withe 10 of your favorite "new" ones. How many old scenes are better than the new ones? Definitely something changed (not only kissing).
I definitely agree that we have had massive improvement, and personally, most of the time I also prefer to watch a lot of time spent on kissing/makeout/foreplay, emphasizing sensuality. However, this is not to say that this is the one "right" way to portray lesbian sex.
In any event, it's weird to look back and see those earlier efforts that were so lacking in those elements. I guess what seems so obvious to us today were not nearly as intuitive back then. Or perhaps it's just a matter of time constraints. Scenes were a lot shorter back then; if more time was spent on kissing, there would be little time spent on actual sex, and the studios were probably worried that the audience wouldn't like that.

I mark around 2015 or 16, when We Live Together became junk intended to be outlandish (like 99% of content today), as when GG content started getting really bad. We Live Together stopped being the physically intimate action it used to be to lean into goofiness, I think that's when Twistys started being pretty sets and nothing else, when Filly Films started dying off, girlsway was dominating and sites started mimicking the pants-on-head stupid behavior of the bulk of StillsByAlan content. That's around the time GG was pretty much over. I think Dan O'Connell stopped working in 2018 or 19. The really no-fun part is that the bad content just begets bad content as girls mimmick it.
These days, I look at previews like the one for the latest Girlfriendsfilms release that appeared on HotMovies.com today and wonder how folks think the action in that look like the women are feeling confident and pleasured. It looks absolutely awful. And that's GFF, which doesn't have the absurdity tone that most of the current versions of the classic GG sites go for...most stuff looks worse than that with just added decibels and intentionally dumb dialogue lol.
April Olsen has retired from porn to be an "intimacy consultant," a person who makes sure sex scenes don't look stupid, something all these GG sets need.
For good performers (such as those on my list), I don't think good kissing is exceptional, and as you can see my list is pretty long, and I'm sure I'm missing some since I have hardly watched all contemporary g/g porn.
For foreplay, again for good performers and for some studios (such as Girlfriends Films, All Her Luv, and many Adult Time productions), there is plenty of it. In some studios they deliberately skip foreplay and kissing (like Brazzers), but that's just their approach, which is not to my taste, but then again there's no "wrong" way to have lesbian sex.
I remain quite convinced that this is essentially a case of ratcheting up expectation/what-have-you-done-for-me-lately. From the late 90s/early 2000s (my starting point) to the Viv Thomas era of Jo/Eve/Sandra Shine/Lisa/etc. (my first encounter with the "new era," so to speak), that was a huge leap forward. It was shocking and left an indelible impression. After that, whatever improvements that were made were essentially incremental, not revolutionary. One may even argue that in terms of fundamental approach, we haven't experienced any real change. So now it's just down to looking for specific performers who can do this new approach well. If someone doesn't happen to find performers they like, or if they (subconsciously) are expecting new massive improvement and end up not finding them, they will be disappointed.

😄 Glad you liked the AI girl! After looking around online, it's actually pretty rare for these AI porn generators to give the option of making a g/g image (maybe it's different if I pay).
I'm not sure if I should create a new thread or not, but right now I'm sort of (temporarily) obsessed with AI generated images. After going through some pretty mediocre at best porn image generators as above, I finally bit the bullet and spent $10 for a Midjourney monthly membership (one of the best known AI image generators today as far as I know). As a mainstream service, of course terms of service forbids porn, but still they can create some vastly better images. Furthermore, rather than selecting from a bunch of tags (and mostly they don't work), you can just enter plain text and the AI will actually make some really cool stuff for me. Based on the initial image, it can also give some variations.

^For me personally it had pretty much everything I look for in a lesbian scene. Genuine chemistry/connection, most of the positions that I like (no 69), I love the whispering in the ear and the low whisper from Octavia throughout a lot of the scene, (what looks like) real orgasms, I think the whole thing just worked. Magic! I did see an editing snafu though which is a bit disappointing, there's a point where they use the same short sequence twice.
