I've read most of this topic and was wondering where does clearly amateur porn fit into this whole thing? Men and women who upload their self-produced porn for zero profit? Quality sub-standard for sure, but sometimes I find the girls even more attractive. They can provide for free what it cost hella money for producers to provide. And for the who's making all the money these days from porn, I think it's internet providers. They're the ones getting people to the porn.

Folks like NewRomancer get lost in the syntax of his theft, either because they've never created and sold a piece of work or are insensitive or just too stupid to know right from wrong.
The term "FileSharing" is what I'm referring to. It is NOT sharing. It is copying / theft. If I like a novel & think that my buddy would appreciate it too, I may lend it to him. I can do that because I bought the book. I don't attempt to photocopy the damn thing (& in that you can see why the technology of file-copying, being as easy as it is, is the creator of the problem).
We all know that the reality of file-copying, whether music or video, gives rise to a complex series of outcomes, one of which I am certain is that the recipient then goes on to purchase legitimate works from the artist in future. It happens I am sure, and always did - even going back to using cassette tapes to record songs from the radio etc. But, tapes were shit. Now you can steal an MP3 that to most people sounds amazing. (Musicians & others know that they're pretty poor, but way better than tape!)
I have no doubt whatsoever that file-copying massively affects the artists. NewRomancer & the other thieves up here know it too, but they want "Proof". The testimony of those in the music / film industry is not enough for them. They are convinced of their own dogma - I would not be surprised if they argued that cigarettes do not cause Cancer next.
So, if my self-financed / produced / recorded album is stolen by NewRomancer or someone else on a file-theft site I am telling them now: you are stealing my work. I am not a rich guy. If I don't make something back from the album it will be a lot harder for me to finance the next project. Understand? Can you read messages that you do not like and assimilate them? I am not alone in this - many musicians & film-makers are trying to progress with the new scenario of democratisation brought about by the internet: we are bypassing the old-guard of Record Companies (that's right - we hate them too) but you are saying that we are legitimate targets too & you should be fucking ashamed of yourselves.
As I said before: go and pay for your gasoline from the corporate warlords, but be sure to speak of freedom when you steal from artists.
It's a great way to live your life, ain't it?

Aaah... sweet amateur porn. I most often find that the 'quality' is not at all substandard (A decent HD camera doesn't cost that much these days), the sex is much less lame and robotic, and it's proof that it doesn't cost "hella money" to produce appealing content.
I have said it in other threads, I think the "Industry" could stand to learn a thing or two from amateur porn.
Shows what you know...
The evidence seems to suggest that, on the whole, it might be a positive effect... So who is it that can't or won't read anything that doesn't agree with their own dogma again?
Again, I pay for porn I like... I just don't find much that I like. (I refuse to buy porn where the meat has to jerk himself off to achieve orgasm, for example) I use filesharing and tube sites to sift through the dross.

Many of you bring up good points for discussion. I respect the fact that artists are angry for being the victims of thievery. Life is tough, the thieves at the top will prosper, but the thieves at the bottom are acting on stolen time. The top thieves always figure out a way to eliminate their lesser connected competition. Many of you in the business are just angry because of the way it is being played out at the moment.
When the industry continuously hires males with a shallow gene-pool based on nothing more than a "buddy" system, you get what you have in the industry today. A clique of cosmetically modified plastic facial bone structures with an instilled resentment for the women who would have rejected them in the real world. Porn is lead by a rich clique of hierarchical people with an obsession to compartmentalize and promote the abusive and inflammatory. I don't really have much sympathy when I hear a lot of the complaints I hear from them. The orchestrated apathy has been absolutely systematic in it's execution long before the onset of the filesharing issue.
It seems this is the main issue that people in the business want to pretend not to hear.

^ I agree that a lot of porn is shitty, and made with no real care, but the problem is that the best porn is the most popular porn for downloading as well. the people who actually put some care into their videos are losing money along with the bottom-feeders that hopefully will be driven out of business by the downturn in the industry's fortune. More likely though, as the arrival of VHS over film proved, those who actually have some standards are more likely to be the first to jump ship.

^Thanks for your comment, it's good to hear your take on this.
I can't help but think the statement relating to the best porn being the most popular porn may subject to interpretation. For example, Jay Sin and Jonni Darkko have appreciation threads a mile long indicating that they are the most popular. With all due respect, they seem to film most of their scenes with the tunnel-vision tactic I have spoken of before which I don't believe is the best. They also gravitate toward lesbian gapes, blow-jobs, and big shoes or boots which I don't care for. One person's idea of best isn't necessarily another person's idea of best. It is all about majority opinion.
The majority of people in America are pretty ignorant in my opinion. They stand by as war-mongers eat up our artificial tax money. They watch everything go down the tubes and swear to take it out on the party responsible by voting another party in to replace them. They don't even understand the "good cop/bad cop" routine. But, they are the majority, so that's just the way it is. If you speak out, you're labeled a "terrorist", or in the cyber-world....a "troll".
I want more from this world than what they are prepared to offer from their monopoly.

I'm not sure those threads reflect overall popularity. I'm not saying that the best porn is always the most popular, and there's no accounting for taste but from what I've seen Mason, whose videos I personally love, sell quite well on the internet DVD and VOD sites. Abby Winters videos are also quite popular and I've seem IFeelMyself.com videos on the tube sites as well. Other may disagree that this is the best in porn, but I think all the producers are creating it with some sincere care about the quality.
I'm worried that downloading and the tube sites will effect these producers sales enough to eventually force them out of the business, leaving us only with JM style producers or the more frat-boyish porn of JJ (which I also like on occasion, just stating my personal preference).

"Hierarchical people"?
"Orchestrated apathy?
The majority of Americans don't pay any income tax. They are also mostly glad that the "war-mongers" keep the terrorists busy in Afganistan preventing them from executing another 9/11.
Oh the Illuminati crowd is back. Yaay! All politicians conspire in secret against the common people and only Asian Anal Pantyhoser Guy knows the truth.
Based on your other posts more from this world = porn videos where black men fuck Asian chicks dressed wearing a pantyhose in their asses.
Well I for one want to see more stories in my porn. I want to see more porn videos that don't take themselves too seriously. I want to see porn makers experimenting, trying new things in terms of locations, settings and contextualisation of the sex act. As long as there will be people in the porn industry making the kind of stuff that I like, I will keep buying and supporting them and I don't care if they are part of some evil "monopoly" or not.
I see your point but why JM? They are the good guys IMHO.

^ Yes, well hung black men doing Asians deep in the asshole will do nicely. I think it sells but I could be wrong. Don't forget that I also believe there all in on a major conspiracy to hide their pretty little toes, especially if adorned with sheer hosiery. Your "good guys" at JM Productions are in on that one too.
Croc, I respect your desire to see the porn you want to see, but there should be an avenue for me to see the type of porn I want to see as well. What I seek can be made to sound ridiculous, but if you think of how militant the industry is "still" acting in an effort to avoid it, that too begins to look ridiculous on their part.
If they don't want to deliver the goods, I don't want to allow them to thrive. If they accommodate me slightly, I support them to the fullest extent.
If you want to debate anything pertaining to conspiracies, I welcome you to tear me a new one on the thread I have provided in the World, News, and Nonsense forum. "Conspiracy Theories"....(Sorry I don't really know how to throw a link to it)
I think they spotted Osama in Iran, looks like we need to increase the production of heroine in Afghanistan.

Bingo! Give this man a prize. You nailed it! Jules Jordan is the prime example and poster boy for over rated, over priced, and over hyped shitty and abusive type porn. And yall swallowed it hook line and sinker... He rode the coat tails of John Stagliano and than was "allowed" to win fake and rigged awards from his boss who owns AVN. The good old boys network ALLOWED him to do this... But he will tell a different story.. ain't that right Jules? Now Jules Jordan Video is in bed with Brazzers, who are helping destroy the porn industry. The dumbshits in the SF valley porn cliques get what they deserve for being an abusive and self important lot.
BTW Jules let me formally introduce myself, My real name is Jimmy S. and that my obsession is with telling things how they are. I don't give a flying fuck about your perceived success at making shitty little porn movies for guys to jack off too. That is a monumental achievement in life....
I now do work as an editor for some websites thanks to a really cool and righteous director (who helped me and my wife get into the adult biz making some extra money) A director who has more knowledge and talent in his left testicle than you will ever have... So before you start dragging other people into this... like you did before, I'll be more than happy to tell this to your face and you can meet me in person... Hell I'll even buy you lunch! BTW... I understand this very stand up director I mentioned, called you to apologize for MY comments on this board a while back. I speak for myself, he had nothing to do with my posts.. and you didn't even have the decency or balls to call him back. Oh wait you are just to important.. yea right...
Hey you're famous! remember those words Jules? I know someone that does.. and he'll never forget... You demonstrated exactly who who are by those words...
BTW my wife stopped stocking your company in her store also... You know what? you aren't even missed... No one even asks for your stuff to be honest. They just buy any other gonzo garbage on the shelf.

As I said, just my personal preference, JM's videos seem to be sold on the freak and novelty factor. Jake Malone and Mason (again) both do the rough sex thing much better than JM, imho.
Of course, after posting that I saw my own contradiction, as everyone has producers they like that others don't, so the idea that hopefully only the 'good porn' will survive is all in the eye of the beholder. Unfortunately, porn history doesn't encourage the belief that quality will out.

Let's see if the trend endures for more than just a fiscal quarter or so. I'd be more interested to see industry stats when the economy leaves this current timid recovery period and enters another expansion growth period (in a year's time or so). My personal desire is to see the porn industry contract regardless, lose its blubber (cheap porn) and focus on quality productions.

Yeah, I've noticed that there's not much being released over the past few months too. Even some of my fav girls seem to be nowhere to be seen. I figured the same was happening to porn as everything else, going down the pan. Well, at least maybe only good stuff will be made now instead of floods of shit.

Yet, if that made thing is available for free, how many people do you suppose will pay for it? Some will, and many will not.
As an experiment, open up two kool-aide stands. Serve the same product in both booths, but in one of them charge a dollar a cup and in the other give away the drinks for free. See which stand gets the longest lines. Perhaps if the free stand were named Jonestown kool-aide or something, it might have shorter lines...

Not with today's educational standards. Jonestown Kool Aide would still have a huge line, and probably most people in the line wouldn't even get the reference.

If you're tired of watching some white trash-whore shitting out 4 creampies from her 5 black co-actors, then try some hot babe giving a blowjob, or try JAV, Brazilian baes whatever... Porn is always something millions will watch, and so do I...

Compilations offered as new releases has been increasing steadily for the last three years. Also, low quality internet content offered on DVD has been increasing steadily. So now, it is easier for me to keep up with the newly released porn which I prefer. I just hope enough of my prefered porn stars stay in the game. Quality is more important than frequency.

Correct. Millions watch porn on free tube sites/download it from torrents and rapidshare. Unfortunately, such consumers generate almost nothing in terms of revenue for the people that actually produce the content.

Considering how profitable the industry has remained in the face of the worst economic situation since the Great Depression and with such absurd and illogical behavior like increasing content production when sales are already down it would appear that free content has had a largely negligible impact on the industry's profits.

I'm a fan of quality over quantity. That's the problem that needs to be solved. How can talent make a living producing less. I want crystal clear video and audio, lighting, cute georgous girls, many need to bow out. Natural boobs, I love the Naughty School Girl series. Fuck my mind girls. These movies need to be produced with bigger budgets and made into stroke job masterpieces. Watching porn over the internet no way compares to HD on a monitor. No way. The screen size, conveinece, and visual audio quality...come on....Cannot the industry figure this one out.

As a fairly picky consumer, I'm actually hoping the industry shrinks a little. It would be nice to see some of the shoddier production companies, stupider directors and fatter girls all pushed out. That might seem harsh when it's your job on the line and not mine. But, again as a consumer, it sucks searching for quality porn amid just heaps and heaps of total crap.

Well, the statement about bigger girls is an opinion that a substantial number of viewers don't agree with. Most people would agree that quality is not good on average right now. But personally, skinny girls are not my thing at all (With some rare exceptions). Most of the girls in the porn industry are nothing even approaching what I'd call fat. In fact, the ones who are a little thick often aren't thick enough for me. And the way they are shot with the wide lens zoomed all the way out just makes it worse.
Most of us are wanting thick girls with big butts. Skinny girls are cool in 3D but they kind of lose something in the transition to 2D.

Porn is like any other product. If you supply too much inferior product you'll kill off demand. For the last several years, I've heard all kinds of rationalizations for content featuring tattooed women, heavier women, older women - Basically, all the women who until 2000 or so were never able to make a career out of porn. I kept thinking this is going to catch up with the industry sooner rather than later. That time has come. The real fetishists might be unhappy to see fewer "Hefty Inked Grannied" series, but the mainstream porn viewer will actually be quite relieved. That's when demand will pick up, since that's when the perceived quality of the product will have lifted.

Regarding quality issues: My spending would surely increase if I saw less (or better) faking. Even the "high-end" stuff is pretty awful those days.
I watched Wicked's Fallen a while ago and found the plot scenes to be the only thing watchable in the whole movie. The rest was just the usual overacted arousal, phony moans, unnatural body language and girls confusing dirty-talk with cursing like a sailor or commenting the whole thing like a sports match.
There's not many studios focussing on a somewhat more authentic viewing experience. Viv is very good but can't keep up with the demand of the whole genre. (Or should I say niche?) Sweetheart / Sweet Sinner keeps using talent well beyond their best age, thereby killing at least one scene in almost every movie I've seen so far. Abby Winters is decent but the faking crept in there long ago and some of the scenes really lack heat.
If the industry steered away a bit from the jackhammering-clockwork it currently is and released more stuff that actually looks like sex, I think I'd spend more.

The "Hefty Inked Grannied" porn didn't reduce the amount of "standard regular porn" being produced and the quality of "standard regular porn" is the same as it ever was. I don't see how the mere presence of fetish porn made people stop buying standard porn.

I'm not the first one to ever bring up this point. When some of the more out there fetish/niche market stuff is blended in with mainstream porn, it makes finding the mainstream porn both unpleasant and a hassle. An example would be when a rental outlet lumps all their transsexual titles into the heterosexual section and you have to cull through all this stuff you aren't interested in when reviewing the new releases. In this regard, many of the sites that provide downloadable content have done a really good job of taking a tip from the tobacco industry. They break the content up into a hundred segments and sell it as different product aimed at specific markets. That's smart business. What you pay for is only what you're interested in. The ones who really just don't get it are the rental outlets.
