I'm probably wasting my time but here goes anyway. I agree with you that those millions of downloadings sparked an interest in those bands. That's not the issue.
The issue is that all those people who downloaded those albums for free didn't want to find a place to buy that album or any of the other because it's super easy to buy them. No. All it did is make those freeloaders look for other albums to download for free. You can apply that to tv shows, movies, games and porn. People that look for free stuff do so for only one reason. They don't want tom pay for it.
The only way that internet downloads work in both directions is when you pay the guy who made it some money and then you download it to keep. Otherwise it's one way since you didn't pay anyone to produce it and you still managed to download and keep it.

my good friend Tiger,..I'll make this as concise as possible...
you're defending filesharing. filesharing is a shameful tactic that is used to devalue and destroy our content libraries. I dont believe you ever pay for porno and are only stirring this up to get attention because you are frustrated w/what xxx has become and it's no longer helping you jerkoff to your fullest enjoyment. to all that I say: keep ripping content w/bit-torrent software and soaking up our stolen scenes on the tubes because you're not a fan of anybody but your own me-time experience. I see TONS of backlash when I ask people to take down OUR content on the tubes as if I'm taking away their birth right or only child. you are part of the self-entitled fanbase that has helped ruin many phases of media and entertainment so please keep indulging on our dime. your not welcome, and I dont believe you are in any way, shape, or form a fan. lates, Von S.

Yes, very orginal opinion. Every new modern invention is bad. I mean, home taping basically ruined all content industries in the 80s. No company has been able to sell a single copy of anything these past 30 years. Right?
What XXX has become? Don't quite follow you there...
Absolutely, I will follow your advice. But seriously, you didn't bother to respond to my question. Why? You didn't respond to the obvious arguments in favour of file-sharing, any particular reason for that?

How can you know that a downloaded copy of something, may it be a tv show, porn movie, real movie, album, or whatever, never leads to the customer actually buying a product in the end? Or two products, or twenty products of the same sort?
This is my point: people downloading stuff are interesting in them. If interest hadn't existed today, its damn obvious that porn hadn't gained the impact it actually has managed to.
Successful products will always have an audience. Unsuccessful products wont. Example: print media is slowly dying out. Digital media is the future.
If I recall correctly Porno Dan has written a few posts in this forum about his company expanding sales-wise - why is that do you think? Cause he has found a successfull formula and many other have failed.
Many producers, film makers, musicians are stuck in the mindset of doing things the ordinary way - despite lacking sales. From my point of view, many people have created this big Internet-dilemma in their own head - which of course stops them from gaining success (success like Porno Dan).
Is it fear of failure? In some extent yes, but the real failiure is the process of not trying.
Stop living in the past and embrace the now instead.

^Since you want to play this game then please enlighten me and everyone else. How many times per week do you visit Tube and Torrent sites? How many of those visits equal you buying the movie you downloaded for free or joining the site from where the scene was taken? I'm only looking for ball park figures so you don't have to be very precise.

So you're aware of declining sales figures and the only thing you're doing about it is asking tube sites to remove your contents?

Basically impossible to answer to in the way you want.
How many times have you yourself watched an advertising - anything goes - and then bought the product - and stuff alike - and maybe even told you friends about it and caused a chain reaction? Answer in percent.
My main point remains the same, qualitative stuff (whatever it is) will always find an audience. It's up to the people in charge to find a suitable business model.

So, you are now comparing tube sites with advertising? Wow, you are worse than most trolls that we get here. You happily type here that you steal people's work, get surprised when they get mad at you yet you would have the same reaction if while you were at work, people came and stole all your stuff and then posted on a forum about it.

Congratuations dear Moderator, file-sharing is a form of advertising/promotion.
Troll? Hopefully not.
Never said I steal peoples work.
Same reaction? People is stealing my work. Does that make me mad? Maybe a little, but I'm trying to overcome it.
And by the way: if 500 000 people download a porn movie or whatever - does that automatically equals 500 000 units in lost revenues to you?
Like I said before: qualitative stuff will always survive. Lesser good material will fade away into nothingless. Market economy. Supply and demand. As long as humans walk the earth - there is ALWAYS going to be a demand for porn stuff. The challenge is to find the best business model.
If a product isn't selling then apparently the producer is doing something wrong, like being afraid to adapt to modern technology.

No, file-sharing is when people, who have no right to distribute a piece of work, decide that they are going to make an exact copy and give it away for free. That is not advertising or promotion, which is done by the company.
Definitely
If you are involved with file-sharing then you have stolen. Period.
No I mean all your things, in your house, TV, computer, couch, etc. Because that's what you are taking from adult film producers, workers, etc.
Ah yes, the ultimate cop out of the person who steals via file-sharing. It doesn't equal the same because not that many people would have bought it to begin with. The side that's missing is whether or not it equals 500,000 in lost revenues, it equals something in lost revenues. So yes, theft has occurred.
Qualitative stuff is disappearing because of lost revenues from file-sharing. The best business model is not to have people steal your stuff. The problem is all the thieves, like you, come up with justifications in your mind as to why it isn't stealing. If file-sharing is so profitable, why don't the people making the movies available, pay for a license to distribute the work? Oh ya, because it isn't.

What really puzzles me is that there's people who pays subscribing some filesharing services often more than one a month to download content very often in low quality , I mean they do not want to pay for legal content bur are very willing to pay to download "for free".
The incredible is that rentals in the end will cost less , and for a full membership on a site , you can download hundreds of GB of material , a month isn't even enough to get everything , paying for a different site every month will give so much material you can't even live long enough to watch at it in full.
Also today the most part of what is printed has already been made available for download by the legitimate owners
I prefer the physical DVD and thus I mostly rent or buy , but there was a time I used to buy memberships from site I still have downloaded material to see that I picked up years ago and stored on DVD

Problem reading or problem understanding?
No more than you.
File-sharing can function both as promotion as revenue-stealer. No aspect excludes the other.
File-sharing equals losing everything you (producers and such) own? Remarkable opinion. Hardly reality-based though.
Highly irrelevant.
Do you think that there is less porn produced these days than 10-15 years ago when file-sharing started to blossom?
You're actually poin-pointing one of the oldest and most worn-out arguments from the producers side so to speak: just because something has worked fine in the past automatically means that it always will. That's hardly reality-based business model. The world is changing thanks to technology and its up to those producing contents to keep even steps. Apparently PornoDan and his company succeeds.
Cause if qualitative stuff is being lost from the market then apparently the fans found something more valuable to spend their money on. As simples as that, market economy. In the end it comes down to whos tackling the situation in the most efficient manner.
At the same time its fairly easy for producers and alike to just sit back and complain about the situation instead of doing something about it.

A form of promotion as well, if that's the best there is I'll leave unanswered.

An explanation like that is on the same level as the argument: making a copy of something (movie, album etc) isn't stealing because the original copy is still left untouched!
Not impressive at all.

I'm not the one with the problem reading or understanding. If you want to prove to me that what you are saying is legit, then write to all the companies who's work is on TubeSites as "promotion" and ask them if it is okay to promote their work that way. Please post your answers here with proof. Until then I am done talking with a troll.
and as a moderator:
And also, as a word of advice, Adult DVD Talk supports producers of adult entertainment and is one of the sites that you are ripping off. Promotion of tube sites on here will result in your account being deactivated.

Or why not ask the small companies who wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the Internet?
Apparently moderators can be trolls as well.
You have absolutely no idea of what I'm sharing or not sharing, buying or not buying, supporting or not supporting. I think its sad - in a way - that a big forum like Adult DVD Talk can't be independent from the voices of the industry.
Deviant opinions about file-sharing - like the ones I'm representing - are being dealt with by saying "troll", "i'm not taking to you anymore" and reminders of my account being deactivated if continiung to do promotion for tube sites (?)
Please, if these are the conditions for the forum - go ahead and ban my user to hell. I have no interest in being here if one can't speak fairly freely of various aspects of the industry. It should say quite a lot about the mentality going on here if that's the case.

But many DVD companies as well as many videogames studios are not
Look I'll make it simple , if I take some of your belongings and then begun to sell them in a corner of the street will you see as an advertising on how good is your place?
For example picking up your car would show to everybody the way you take care of it, good advertising in case you want to sell one, I mean another one, the one I picked up (not stolen of course) I will share with someone else.

Because paying for a filesharing service is a much better deal (quantity-wise) than subscribing to a paysite. HD quality is only for the fanatics/purists; the freeloader or bargain hunter is perfectly happy with non-HD quality. The filesharing subscription gains access to content from thousands of different sites featuring hundreds of themes/genres from all over the world. Compared to that, even the most humongous paysite has lesser offerings. The advantage of the paysite is you can get exactly what you want. For example if you want Naughty America's complete collection of Pornstarlet X scenes, you have to subscribe to NA website, because probably the filesharing world will be missing a few or a lot of scenes by Pornstarlet X.

Then they've failed to create a solid trademark. Good stuff will find its way to the customers. Bad stuff... (you get it)
I've heard of video/computer game studios collapsing as well. I've also heard of quite a few studios rising to stardom.
Bad example, I want my belongings to myself. The companies in question are out to sell their stuff.
Let's put it this way: I'm writing some articles (no, english isn't my main language...) and taking some photos in my spare time. Feel free to share them with the world, maybe it can result in good promotion to me, even if my main object is to sell some of them. Ok?
It's an example alright, although not a realistic one.

In case of computer games and online playing subscription is a key role. It's hard as fuck to prevent someone from downloading a game, but gaining access go the gaming network can be taken care of with ease.

If the bank sees that as their best way of gaining attention from customers then they have more problem than just lack of people visiting the bank.

MOD:
I would read what I wrote again, I said "And also, as a word of advice, Adult DVD Talk supports producers of adult entertainment and is one of the sites that you are ripping off. Promotion of tube sites on here will result in your account being deactivated." In other words, if you mention tube sites by name, try to direct users to tube sites, or any sort of promotion for them, your account will be deactivated. I posted this for you because the majority of people on here who come in with your argument start posting promotions for them and go away.
And before you start on the free speech issue you started, think about this. The advertisers on this site, make their money off adult material. The stars, directors and producers that visit this site make their money off adult material. The stores in the price search make their money off adult material. And finally, from the site etiquette, "Posting a bunch of crazed nonsense about democracy and free speech will only lead to the deactivation of your account."

This is not the case of Console games , it is true that in the end they will discover all the modded consoles and ban them but the damage has already been done
the first week of sales is critical if you fail it it is unlikely you will earn enough to repay your game.
Square Enix is crying out loud about the failure of Tomb Raider , who didn't sale 3,500,000 copies in a week which was considered the minimum requirement
And we are talking about the top selling game in Europe also it reached 1,000,000 contact online in the first 24 hours
there's something fishy out there

I know that a computer game costs enormous sums of money to produce, but I stopped playing games years ago so I don't have any clue about break-even numbers and such.
If the latest Tomb Raider failed to reached the sales-predictions then the company did some miscalculations, or the fans wasn't satisfied by the game. Tough competition? I mean, how many computer games are released every year? Extremely many. Blaming file-sharing is the easy way.

Ok, my bad.
I have absolutely no intentions what so ever to link to torrent or tube sites or whatever. I'm not affiliated with such sites and I personally seldomly use them. I'm here for discussions and finding information.
And that I find sad, like I wrote. (meaning that you cant distance yourself from the industry)
The etiquette rule can basically be translated to: you're more than welcome to these boards if you're agreeing with the rest of us (moderators, producers, stars etc) - if not, we'll see what happens to your user account. More or less.

No you don't have to agree with anything but you MUST abide the rules you signed when joining.
People makes a living selling the stuff they produce , you just can't arrive and promote file sharing
I can't even understand what's unclear with that
The fans were perfectly satisfied in fact was and maybe still is a top seller in Europe in both PS3 and Xbox 360 and even PC
All of this is perfectly in line with what was predicted yet it was not enough
A Top production today has costs higher than movies considering promotion it goes around 100,000,000 each

And is not interpretation this site does not promote piracy of any kind which last time I checked was illegal in the USA where this site is based , unless this changes you cannot be positively favourable to file sharing on this board

But the opinion of someone who owns a business and experiences lost revenues is basically always "wrong", as long as he has a negative view on filesharing etc.? Because it is then only selfish and just proves that he's an egoist?
