I can't say that I was August's friend or anything on that level, but we'd been DMing each other on twitter off and on over the last year or so. Just superficial stuff like makeup and silly Harambe memes. She wasn't just the nice girl publicly like some girls are, but she legitimately was every bit as fun and kind outside of the public persona too. She had no reason to be as nice to this weird gay goth girl from Queens as she was. I don't think she had a homophobic fiber of her entire being and I firmly believe she wasn't trying to belittle anyone for their choices on what kind of sex work they do. All this was was a tweet that could have been phrased better initially, and after it had been sent in the way it was, treated with a calm response as to why it could be seen as offensive or demeaning. She was such a positive light and I hope these events don't cloud over that fact.

Unbelievable.
These SJWs are the worst cannibals in society ever. Just fucking unbelievable.
Even after her death, August continues to be insulted by a sanctimonious grandstander too proud to even consider how absurd her attack is. Even after realizing that August was queer herself, this self-important narcissist Fox is CONTINUING to insult her as a homophobic and a bigot.
This is the poison of "social justice." The LEAST socially-just people on the planet are these self-proclaimed "socially minded" social-justice-warriors. If there is such a thing as social justice, it will always elude us on account of these cannibals. If it isn't justice plain and fucking simple, then it's a perversion of justice.
When will folks realize that playing up and into these identitarian politics is the only way to perpetuate the 'ism? Reinforcing these categories inevitably results in social hierarchies. The greater the special interest, the less likely you'll ever attain social equality. Identitarian post-modernist SJWs do nothing but divide and subdivide society into increasingly meaningless and yet inversely polarizing categories.
August was not "HOMOPHOBIC." How is it homophobic to acknowledge the widely reported and undisputed facts of the higher risk of infection in the gay community and simply prefer avoiding participation in gay porn? She wasn't protesting and boycotting or calling for the oppression of gays. She wasn't "irrationally fearful" of gays. It is not IRRATIONAL to RATIONALLY face the facts and act according to what you are comfortable with in a workplace.
Even in death... buzzard's guts.
For the love of anything decent, could people just stop demeaning and dehumanizing the deceased at least??? August maybe was homophobic. I don't know her. I can't claim to know her true beliefs or what was in her heart, but if she was homophobic, what is the bloody evidence for it?
And how was she a bigot? What is the bloody evidence for it?
When you're standing over someone's grave and continually insulting them, you better have a damn good reason for it. The total lack of self-awareness these self-proclaimed "social justice" types exude is revolting.

Didn't know she was married to Kevin Moore in 2016. Was that marriage current? He seems like a decent guy, and I remember he did participate and was responsive on this forum. Wonder how he's taking this.

That Should Work.
And quite right too, however you and a lot of other freedom of speech proponents forget one thing:
There a laws against inciting others to violence, laws against hate speech and personal attacks. You sure the fuck have the right to say what ever you wish.
However, and this is what is frequently over looked, no where in that magnificent document does it say that you are protected from being punished should your words break any laws.
No, the government cannot make any laws that restrict freedom of expression. That does not mean you can incite or provoke violence, tell people to kill themselves and when someone in a fragile state does so, just walk away.
Remember this?

Agree with the above poster.
I've seen other female performers make the statement that they were avoiding working with X (insert whatever performer) because he had a past in gay porn.
In each instance, they said it in a way where the impression the audience could easily get was that such an outlook was generally accepted. In other words, the existence of risk of disease contraction is real, the industry has common knowledge of the risk, and it's fine the decision I am making not to work with X because of that past.
In each case there did not appear to be any concern about hiding the fact behind their decision. Or concern it would be considered discriminatory toward gays.
Until this sad event, I had no idea the position was controversial.
I don't think a thoughtful discussion with facts somewhere on line would be a bad thing.
At the end of the day, if there is any increased risk, the performer is well within her right to not do the shoot. Also at the end of the day if you use that risk as your reasoning, be ready to get a lot of blow back. Rightfully or wrongfully.

So sad. It really is a reminder of how depression works. She was loved by her fans, fellow actors and directors. Clearly a beautiful young woman who was very talented but depression is horrible. It makes you feel isolated, worthless etc. I hate it when people think.that its just made up or fake. Its very real and its about time the World in general was more accepting to mental health issues but this is something for another time. I hope heaven has a safe place for you August. Sleep Tight. It's so sad that even when ANYONE has passed away who might have been deemed as controversial during their career they are still attacked for a position they took even after death. It's known as kicking someone when they are down. Now August Ames cannot even answer back those critics. Whatever happened to phrases like "RIP August. You were a legend?" or words to that effect. August took the position that she did for her own reasons. Despite this she still had a large enough fanbase to film for the large studios and so did her no really harm at all career wise. It's just the idiots on social media who latched onto a position she took and wore her down mentally with it. They say she had mental issues and was in hospital. Could this be because of a nervous breakdown BECAUSE of the social media crap??. If so then she is another terrible victim of internet trolling.
RIP August Ames. For me the scenes I saw you in earmarked you to go a long way. Sadly now not to happen. Thoughts and prayers with her family.

I also think this is a pivotal moment for the industry.
In regards to August, as longer I followed her on twitter and got to know her better that way, the more ambivalent I felt about it. Certainly most of the time she seemed like that girl full of life and kindness with a terrific sense of humour. But the longer I followed her I also recognised she would use her twitter almost like a diary and if there was only one negative comment in the oceans of appreciation for her, she would sometimes focus on the single negative comment and could be devastated. She was always brutally honest but I was frightened, because she didn't have a natural distance and combined with her ongoing depression, I didn't felt social media always was the best for her. This is where she should have gotten some help from somewhere professional I think.
I'm heartbroken, shocked and so sad that it would come this far, only 23 years old. I'm full of appreciation for August, she was my favorite performer in the last four years, which she accomplished by her out of this world beauty both inside and outside and superb performances. We lost a really great one in her, a true star, and it will take time to heal - though there will never be another August. May you rest in peace beautiful soul.

I don't blame the people who simply objected to what they feel was a flat public rejection of male actors that shot gay scenes. Debate is fine as long as it's not personal or hateful. I do put some of the blame on the guy who told her she could kill herself with cyanide. That simply was a f-ed up thing to say and he will have to live with those words. The majority of the "blame" is on her underlying issues and it seems depression was the culprit. I didn't know August at all, but I never figured she was struggling.

One of the shocking people to have shamed her on Twitter is Jessica Drake. Jessica is entitled to her opinion but you have to be one hell of an hypocrite to actually shame another performer who is simply choosing who she is and isn't willing to have sex with. Especially when that performer is putting her health in dager by having condomless sex with a possible crossover male performer when she herself has spent her entire career working for the only company that as always required their performers to use a condom.
Fuck Twitter, Fuck every Troll who takes some sick joke from hurting other humans beings and fuck every person who didn't take a chill pill before posting hurtful comments.
My prayers are with August family and friends in what must be some really hard times.
Well, I'm a bit confused on this. I didn't follow the conversation on Twitter, so I'm looking for 2/3 day-old tweets to confirm what you're saying. Jessica Drake took a firm position on the matter, basically supporting and promoting work with crossover performers, but she didn't attack or insult directly August or anyone involved in her decision. Unless she deleted some tweets, I wouldn't say she bullied her, or shamed her. She stood for her personal beliefs. And just to be clear, I don't agree with Jessica; I respect her opinion, but I actually agreed with August. That said, I find very sad that people are attacking Jessica on Twitter, calling her "murderer" or "bully". We're not moving on, it's just perpetuating something wrong.

I think this raising one question that how we value life in general. She was young and suffering from depression, people should have been careful there.

As I stated, that case is quite different because they had to establish that she knew she was encouraging someone who was suicidal and unstable to go through with it.
I also think that was a bad precedent in any case. But it's not really the same as random strangers not acquainted with August publicly pillorying her via social media.
Aside from that, there's almost no laws about what you can say, unless they amount to slander or libel, but even then there is a lot of leeway. Even major media outlets that reach millions of people can call you a murderer with no proof, before you've even gone to trial, and there's no consequence. See The Young Turks and their coverage of the six Baltimore police indicted and eventually tried over the Freddie Gray case. They posted a video labeling the cops murderers before any of them even saw a trial. What TYT did should have got them sued. It is downright reprehensible. Even a news network as biased as Fox would have to make correction in a case of such gross misrepresentation. I think TYT's defense is "We're just info-tainment social media tee-hee lol" - which is why I think their credibility is no better than InfoWars, and also why I find the battle between those channels riotously amusing.
So when people can publish virtually anything, people can certainly still say pretty much say anything. I just don't interpret someone saying go drink bleach or jump off a cliff as credible incitements to violence either. People have long wished the foulest things of others. I think it's quite different than credible threats.

Don't worry, I'm just curious because all I can find is this:
1E300110-F98D-4244-963A-78CD2149601A.jpeg
These tweets are still online, I'm not posting anything private or deleted. How would anyone call these tweets insulting or bullying? August expressed her opinion on a delicate topic, Jessica had the right to disagree. Nobody can't blame her for that, unless she addressed personal offenses I can't find anywhere. People can't mix these posts with vulgar and coward attacks like the infamous cyanide one.
August's suicide is a tragedy, but this witch hunt is not helping in my opinion.

But what if getting blacklisted ends up causing another performer to consider, or god forbid attempt, suicide?
We have to be the change we want to see in the world. We need to sympathize even with those who fuck up, because fucking up is something we all do. As foul and shabby as the mob's treatment was, I still would give almost all of them the benefit of the doubt that none of them truly suspected or had even the ghost of a notion that she would actually hurt herself, let alone suicide.
I'm sure most of them feel terribly. And if some are still too stubborn to express contrition, then so be it. I only take issue with those still railing against her even after her tragic death.
I do understand the strong temptation of seeking to lash out in revenge against those voices savaging her, to push for some kind of punishment toward their means of support, but we have to reflect on this before things continue to snowball out of control. August seemed compassionate enough. Or maybe she was too compassionate, and that had something to do with her pain. In any case, I don't suspect she'd want revenge or public pillorying, and even threatening to lash out could exacerbate matters and cause people to double down when they otherwise would not. I know it is much easier said than done but we have to rise above and lead by example. That's how you break the chain.

I don't know why but this story was somehow sticking hard and then I saw that link. I don't know that I want to read it.
She just seems familiar. I knew virtually nothing about her outside her porn scenes obviously, and some brief behind-the-scenes interviews which are typically incurious. I just remember her laughing and seeming fairly humble and nice.

Let me explain this to you, and I'm only going to say this once. EVERY performer has the right to decide who she will and who she won't work with. It's her body. It's her choice. The reason doesn't matter. Performers aren't property. You don't get to second-guess it.
Certainly no one has the right to badger anyone over it, or call them racist or homophobic because they aren't working with blacks or gays, or lame because they won't do acts you want to see. Telling them what you would like to see is one thing, but there's a line and people keep crossing it.
Ths time it was performers doing it to themselves. Bruce Bekham calling her homophobic and word vomiting for attention, and Jaxton Wheeler telling her to go swallow cyanide were standouts. This isn't the first time Wheeler has been a prize gem with performers. Last year he threatened to cut Grace Evangeline's throat.
And before anyone tries to make the point that if she killed herself over online bullying then there must have been other issues, yeah maybe but so what? That's basically victim blaming because you're making her partly responsible for their reprehensible behavior. Fuck that noise. They knew what they were doing. And yeah she could have blocked them and moved on, but let me ask you all something.
Why is it that we put more effort into telling people how to deal with being hurt, instead of stopping people from hurting other people?

Thanks for sharing. When you say you felt ambivalent about it, what was it you refer to? Twitter? I initially read that as you growing ambivalent about her the more you learned about her. But you meant more ambivalent about the social media platform thing?
I actually know someone quite similar to August, who is also popular, except doesn't want to do social media probably for the very reasons you describe. I know of a forum where this person has taken flack, mostly from anonymous trolls, but my friend tends to focus on the negative crap too much. I encourage my friend to dismiss and ignore the few haters. 99% of the feedback about my friend is very positive.

Hmm, we read that very differently. Her overarching point is similar to that of Georgia Jones and Sinn Sage, Which is using tragedies like this as an opening to attack entire groups of people is quite foul (I'm not going to start flaming pornstars at a time like this, but Im already seeing "Look what the gay community has done!" nonsense). Exploiting grief to try and dunk on other people is grotesque regardless of POV. Anyway, I'm not about to get into a fight over that "identitarian" screed because this is about August so I'll take that to a different thread.

As much as I appreciate and in many ways agree with what he wrote. Here is my take and this will be the last time I address the subject of Jessica. Jessica Drake may not realise it but she is in many ways an hypocrite. She is by no means the only one but unlike many others in the industry. She happens to be someone who many people look up to because she has been in the industry for such a long time. Jessica has spent her entire career working for Wicked Pictures who just happens to be the only company that requires that all their performers use condoms and yet she is/was a strong advocate against condom in the porn industry. It takes some serious balls to promote a point of view that you yourself have never been subjected to. That's why I called her out on the subject of crossover because even if she happens to work with them. Those guys will be wearing a condom during their scene but they wouldn't be in the scenes that August would have shot.
I think that today Jessica feels terrible because she may be thinking that some of the things she posted may have in some part contributed to August final decision. We will probably never know what it was that pushed a 23 years old women to commit suicide but what we do know is that what someone thinks is his/her opinion may be perceived as an attack by the person it is directed at. Hopefully a positive can come from such tragedy.

Already you should know I generally agree with you, but I would suggest that the reasons do matter. Everything matters. Good reasons are better than bad reasons.
Take the issue of IR avoidance for example. If the reason is cuz the performer hates a particular race, then that's a worse reason than that they are simply holding out for more money, which itself is not as good a reason as, say, their insecure bf who has a tiny penis being afraid her walls will be ruined by Dredd or some huge cock on legs. There's levels of nuance to these issues. By now I wish everyone found it abundantly clear that not everyone takes the same position or action for the same reason. And just cuz there may be some in the industry who avoid work with gay or crossover talent because they hate gays does not mean that because August was also preferring to avoid such work then she did so due to the same hatred. What's continually aggravating about these unofficial litmus tests imposed on society by perhaps well-intentioned social justice inquisitors is how presumptuous they are, and if someone doesn't pass said tests, then the worst must be assumed about them, i.e. they're a racist, sexist, hateful, have some phobia, or they're a Nazi.
So I do maintain that reasons do matter, and in this case, for whatever it was worth, I found August's reason good enough. It's not the infallible reason with perfect logic (how few of our own reasons ever are?), but it was at least good enough to not deserve being crucified over.

Who is attacking "entire groups of people"? It should go without saying I think it's bullshit to blame "the gay community" for this, to be sure. And as I said before, I already find it unfitting to put all blame on the irate mob who attacked her. I wouldn't even throw the book at the worst individual among the mob.

The debate does help make sense of it all. Not knowing her personally it still will hit a lot of us who know anyone who has depression, or been bullied into wishing to commit suicide. And to have viewed this series of events from her tweet, to the attacks, the cyanide tweet, and whatever emails or texts we don't know about' and to see it end in a hanging is brutally visceral. It needs to be talked about regardless of where someone's opinion lies.
We all know social media and unmoderated comments sections are vile and disgusting. While we may not hear about a lot of actual suicides, there will be tons of people who "feel suicidal" and are feeling completely alone from what they experience from this online. It MUST be talked about.
Also , one does not have to have a mental illness or depression in order to commit suicide. Blaming it on that with August and diminishing the attacks, is really a red herring. A mentally healthy human can feel buried by hate, alone, scared, and hate themselves to the point of wanting to die. It can happen to anyone.
