Wheeler should just stop giving interviews right now. There's no putting this thing to bed without him finally being silent. He's said enough things already IMO.

^ He should be blacklisted from studios for what he's caused. We don't want that kind of behaviour in social media or in the business.

I just saw this yesterday in a list of links and I thought it was click bait. But I had to click it anyway and damn if it wasn't true. So sad. I'd only recently became a fan of hers, like within the past year. I think it's really sad she went from making a choice for her health/well being to taking her life. It kind of not makes sense. And please note, I don't mean that in a offensive way. It seems she had previous/ongoing issues and depression can make people do things that seemingly don't make sense to us so called "normal" folks. RIP August
And I I'll leave it at the that. I'd like to go in on the performers who bullied her, but that's not allowed. I guess I'll recover my Twitter password and vent there.

I don't know. People want to light him up and give him a piece of their mind, that's fine by me. But I think when you call for someone to lose their means of providing, it's significantly worse than speech however vile. What if he ended up killing himself as a result? This won't get us anywhere. His outrage and truly foul and unjustified message to August must have come from a place of deep insecurity. As I understand it he overreacted to what he felt was a threat to his livelihood and that of his gay/crossover peers. As I said from the beginning, he was wrong to take August's message of safeguarding and transparency that way. She was not the bigot or the homophobe he and others made her out to be.
By effectively blacklisting him however, it ends up making his worst fear (one might have called the only truly irrational and by definition "phobic" fear) into the reality it never was before.
Some I am sure will say that is simply just desserts. They think he took her life, so what should it matter that he loses his job? But I still maintain that her death cannot fall squarely on anyone's shoulders. It is certainly not 100% his fault, or even 100% the fault of the group attacking her. I wouldn't even say it's 50/50 their fault. I would say it's 99% the fault of a deeply troubled psychology.
People endure vitriol and hate online every minute of every hour of every day. How many of them end their lives as a result? Not 1%.
Did he say something as bad as what I've seen countless times before on Twitter? Yes. Did he say the worst thing I've come across? No. Not even close, as sad a commentary on social media as that is. I've seen much worse verbal contempt with regularity. And to say that 99% of the time the targets of which don't hurt themselves is still a gross understatement. It's really more like 99.999% of the time they don't, and a much higher % still that they don't end their life.
So how can we put 100% of the blame on him or the group of haters when less than 00.001% of us could have predicted the result?
As hateful and pathetic as he was in that moment, I don't believe it is unforgivable. I support forgiveness for actions, even those which are directly responsible for irreparable harm. It should go without saying I support forgiveness for words. And while I say I support forgiveness, I don't always expect it or show it.
This just seems self-evident that forgiveness is deserved because those offenders truly did not know what they were doing in her case. I strongly doubt any suspected she would hurt herself, let alone end her life. At worst they probably expected a back and forth flame war, one which, if August was still with us, so many people spewing sympathies now would probably have sided against her in the name of soc-jus brownie points. For those phonies, it only gave them pause when she did what none of them expected. I think even for most of those who did know of her psychological struggles, even they could not have expected her to hang herself. I think it was still so sudden for just about everyone, or her closes companions would have been rushing to be with her. Maybe they tried. I don't know.
As trite as it may sound, I honestly suspect that the consequences he and those other more visible attackers are already facing is probably going pretty far to serve as a sufficient lesson. I don't even think we need to call for his being ultimate black-listed, as that's probably already being implemented here and there as we speak. There's probably a lot of more popular female performers telling companies they won't work with them if they hire him.
And that's the most ironic thing about this for him. The blowback is taking him from the frying pan into the fire. Already concerned that the stigma of gay/crossover talent was hurting his career (which it in all probability technically was to some degree), now he's got to face the stigma of a heartless "murderer" on top of that. If life wasn't already unfair, it's about to become as frigidly oppressive as the Siberian gulags for him.

I agree. Well said.
Resist that urge. Or at least try and keep in mind none of them wanted, much less expected, she would end her life. I trust they naturally feel terrible, cuz not only do people think they are monsters who got her to commit suicide out of the blue, but they have also reflected very poorly on a cause that deserves better representation and as a consequence, what is already coming their way from all sides is now going to hurt double.
It is hard to resist the urge to pile on though, isn't it?
But what do you know about the Jaxton guy? Do you know if he has his own psychological/emotional struggles? Where does the cycle end?

What about "punching up v punching down"? Open question. Honestly interested in what people make of it. I make no secret of my vigilance of my lib/progressive peers veering into illiberality and regressive intolerance, but I still think it's hard to deny that punching up lends at least an infinitesimal degree more merit.
The problem we are all having to reconcile is when that degree of moral high-ground on behalf of legitimate social-justice is subsumed or overshadowed, and therefore forfeited, by overwhelming hostility of social justice warriors.

Yeah that's why I'm saying we ought to end the cycle of condemnation, and yes as Janitor stated, finger pointing. We've all said things things that were mean or cruel. Who here could claim to have never said something they wish they could take back?

Yes, big probs arise with RJD. I feel bad for her because she's clearly struggling with identity and logic. I think "phobia" is where they tend to take things too far, and I suspect it's gotten to the point where they are projecting irrational fear more than addressing it.

If I thought any of the hate at August was satirical in anyway I would have laughed my ass off, but it clearly wasn't. These were mostly people that would never meet her judging her because she was doing what she felt was best for her.
"the risk is negligible" I think I read. O.K., if you warriors don't see a problem, then you go fuck him on screen. It isn't their life. Refusing to work with a crossover is not discrimination. They are doing exactly what the right is doing.
You only have to look at Mr Marcus and Marc Wallace as examples of people deliberately hurting others to keep working, so if she wanted to cut down further on the odds, then that is her choice, not theirs.
Also the fact that she did approx 86 Girl Girl scenes makes all their arguments easily dismiss able, since by all accounts she never puked into another girls vagina. Morons.
Steve Martin's 3rd album hit it on the head "Comedy Is Not Pretty". People are far too sensitive now. It's too bad no one has stepped up to fill the shoes of George Carlin and Richard Pryor. They'd be having a field day with these events. And probably catching a ration of shit for it. I think this is mainly because somewhere along the way, compromise became a bad thing. No one seems to want to look weak, so they over act to appear strong. Mel Brooks is correct, you couldn't make Blazing Saddles today. They'd laugh you out of every office for even suggesting it. And if by some chance you did get it made, they blow back and protests would be so extreme you'd have to pull it. Sarcasm is such a lost art and the best comedy is that which makes direct fun of us, because no one is immune.
Look at the #METOO {pound me too - laughing at the name, not the victims} movement. Already there's some push back and, if I am not wrong, I'd guess less than 1% of total incidents have been reported, and there has been none from the males accusing the females. Add in the bandwagon people with a grudge and this is going to get ugly, fast. People that have been hurt are banding together and the mostly white male upper class doesn't like that. At the same time the strident militarism that maybe partly justified is making those with a just cause look really petulant and ugly.
Sorry if this hurts, but most people have the attention span of a gnat and take the Headline as the story, it's far too easy for most everyone to lose the plot.

It's a shame that such a thing happened. Let this be a lesson to all of us! It's good to keep arguments online (and OFFLINE for that matter) to a respectful level and avoid insults, because you never know who ís the person on the "other side of the monitor", so to speak. A lot of people have serious issues, are oversensitive or who knows what they are going through. Sure, the likes of Alexis Monroe obviously need to learn to use their brain more, but you can't blame her or others for the death of August, apart from the fact that we don't know the full or the WHOLE REASONS that she killed herself, but simply because August had problems of her own. Someone who doesn't have problems don't go and commit suicide over some arguments on the internet. Now, the reasons why she didn't get help nor spoke to anyone about her struggles only she knew, but it's our responsability when we go into an argument with someone to keep it on reasonable levels, like I said, because you never know who you are talking to. May she rest in peace!
Regarding the other issue, let me give you a short example of how the internet works, as it's full of narrow minded people without any logic to say the least. We are all different, with different tastes and so on. Some of us like fish, others like beef. Some like a beer, while others might have a coke. Some of us might preffer a Ferrari, others might enjoy a friggin' Scooby-Doo VAN! It's the same sexually. I may not like black girls, maybe I am not sexually attracted to them. It doesn't mean that I don't like black people of course, but I bet you that if I go on a thread here and say that I preffer caucasian girls over black girls, there will be a lot of keyboard warriors coming out to call me a RACIST! Sure, the situation may be a bit different with what happened in this case, but the point is the same: it's OUR CHOICE WHAT WE DO AND WHAT WE LIKE AND NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO JUDGE US! We shouldn't be afraid to express our prefferences as long as we do it in a reasonable manner. In this particular case, it wasn't even simpler. It wasn't a case of "I won't have sex with this guy cause he is gay/bi/whatever and I don't like them!", no, August's reasons were actually really strong as she cared for her health and as I understand, gays have different methods of being tested which are not as strict as the ones in straight porn. So I will end this by asking these people like Alexis Monroe and Jessica Drake for example if they have any idea what AIDS or HIV (YOU SHOULD KNOW BECAUSE YOU HAVE SEX IN FRONT OF A CAMERA after all!) is and if they wouldn't care if they get infected or not? I don't think they understand, because if they did, they should have shut up in the first place.

Removal and firing aren't necessarily concurrent, if she had bookings already signed there would be no reason to remove her from the profile, she'd be still in relation with her agency and they had to be paid, of course this wouldn't be the case if she's dead and obviously cannot perform any more.
Though her removal post -death could actually be a clue she wasn't fired yet

There are adult ways to express to someone your disapproval to them for their reasons-but in any workplace a threat or post like the ones this "gentleman" spewed publicly will get anyone dismissed from their jobs in this day and age. Other than Trump who it seems this rule does not apply to for reasons only his gullibles will even try to explain, everyone is accountable for their words period. If I wrote a tweet and or facebook post suggesting my boss try to cross a street and get killed from a semi-trailer and then taste their blood before burning in a blaze of gasoline stoked fire-guess what I get fired. Or I have people/businesses not want to work with me. Cry me a river boo-hoo that his livelihood is in jeopardy-it's called McDonalds if he wants a suggestion at a new career.

This is also what puzzles me the most now one week after the news got public. We knew she had difficulties finding a therapist from the Holly unfiltered podcast, but she also made us understand she would/could deal with the chemical in balance in her head "organically". That's at least how I heard it. But that's seemingly what depression does do ones brain, as another one here rightfully pointed out. It's so endlessly tragic this had to happen.

Wow, I'm really shocked about the death of this young woman that I came to know as August Ames.
I feel kind of guilty because I also once made a comment on a Youtube interview of her. While not directly insulting, I have to admit from hindsight that what I wrote was kind of condescending, judgemental and bigot.
If I knew that she was in such a bad emotional state, I would have been far more careful. She always seemed like a confident, likable and content person who very much enjoyed herself. Maybe that was the "upper" side of bipolar?
Was no one of her colleagues in the business, eg other porn actresses, the directors and the "male talent" that she worked with, aware of her problems and her vulnerability? Not trying to blame someone, but I really wonder as to how responsive the "porn business", a business that has often been characterized as exploitive, is when confronted with issues of mental health? As a "civilian" I have trouble understanding how one can be sexually intimate with someone, but not knowing anything about the person's personality, but in porn "intimacy" is obviously just a professional act?
We should draw our conclusions about out debating culture on social media. Just because someone perceives themself as some kind of social justice activist, eg for LBGTQ rights, or as some kind of morally superior person (be it religiously, ideologically, philophically...), that doesn't give them the right to recklessly attack and belittle others. Belittleling others for their opinion because you feel morally superior actually proves that you are not morally superior.

I agree with a few posts above.
This is my personal opinion.
I don't Want to offend someone here
The cyberbulling was thenteigfer that she made a tragic decision.
Also correct is that we don't know all facts about her health.
Depresion and bipolar are difficult illness that i found out when i was working in a Hospital.

Technically I don't believe this is true. I don't believe that can qualify as a threat unless it's coming from someone who has authority/power over the recipient of the message. It's been a while since I looked it up, but I think one person telling others to do something harmful to themselves has about as much weight as wishful thinking. Something about person A wishing ill upon another, knowing full well they (person A) have no power to implement it. It's effectively on the level of saying "die in a fire." People have been telling others to jump off a bridge or step into traffic for generations. As litigious as our society is, these still cannot constitute threats, at least not credible ones.
But it does raise the question, if indeed the law interpreted such wishful ill intentions as actionable threats in court, what do you think the punishment should be? Should he see jailtime? IMO they must still establish he was well aware of her psychological history - and even considering this, I still don't know how far that can go in court. I've read she has struggled with depression, but has she ever attempted suicide? Lots of people struggle with depression, and the overwhelming majority don't attempt suicide. I think even if we changed the law to declare his statement an actionable threat, it would still not be a felony. Perhaps a misdemeanor, depending on not just her history, but his knowledge of her history, as well as his own record.
Many are making it very clear right now they believe his statement is enough that he should no longer get work in the industry. But what about jail time, hypothetically? I just don't know about all this.
If I was running a business and heard that language used, I still don't know that I would necessarily fire the person who said it. People go off the handle and say very foul things sometimes. This happens every second of every minute of every hour of every day, 7 days a week 365. There isn't a second that goes by when someone isn't telling someone off with the most extreme language.
IMO there is a world of difference between an actionable threat and wishing ill on someone else via force outside of their control. If the employee threatened to be the one visiting harm on another employee, then yes, that's not only grounds for termination but I would trust legal recourse as well.
The reason I don't like actions as a punishment for words, mainly in cases such as this, is that we already have laws in place that govern these matters. We already have laws about slander, libel, threats and reckless endangerment, like yelling fire in a crowded place.
Would you not agree there is good reason that personal targeted threats of someone saying they will hurt another person are distinguished from wishful visitation of harm on someone from a force beyond their control?
The distinction does not mean that one is punishable, while the other is immune. The examples of wishing harm on your boss still comes down to context for me. Would I expect someone to be fired for that? Of course. I still think more information must be considered to make the best call though. If I'm the boss and an employee tells me what you describe, my first question would be why do they feel this way? It's so over the top I wouldn't take it seriously, much less as a credible threat. Of course I'd have to consider firing them and maybe filing some restraining order, but it all depends on more contextual info. What is our relationship? How long have we known each other? What is their reputation? Have they ever erupted like this before? What is the reason they are so angry in the first place?
What if that employee had worked hard for me for several years and got demoted in an instance of poor HR management? What if they are indeed right to be angry? In such a case, it doesn't even matter what they say in anger. Sometimes people are justified to be angry. Maybe they regret using such extreme language. But it's still just language. If someone is really that angry, I would rather know about it than to not know.
Context can make a world of difference.
How many of us ever heard of this Wheeler before this tragedy? I hadn't. What is his reputation? Has he vented so cruelly at others before? Does he have psychological issues of his own we should consider before making a final judgment?
I maintain what he tweeted was wrong and not to be excused, but did he wake up that day thinking he wanted to be outraged and wanted to say the worst thing he could to August for any reason he could find, or just unload on anyone with such spite for any reason? If so, yeah, he should get help. But just based on probability, I would doubt any of that was his intent when he woke up that morning. He was just triggered. It's not excusable, but it explains so much hostility online.
If we put ourselves in the position of producers or shot callers in the industry right now, how would we deal with this, supposing we have previously been scheduled to work with him? Probably cancel, citing the risk of boycotts. I just think it could be forgiven in time.
And you're right, the job of a porn performer is not the kind which 99% of society could regard as an essential one among blue collar sector which people must rely on to provide a means of living. They get paid pretty damn well to deliver a luxury good. It's rather exorbitant, the amount performers make for a couple hours of work. Even guys make, what, 500-1000 per scene? If they do just 1 scene a week, then they're already well above the poverty line. That's not a struggle. I've considered doing it myself, but I'd prefer to use a mask like Brandon on DickDrainers does, and that would definitely limit opportunities in the industry by 90% at best. The industry is not keen at masked performers. But this is neither here nor there lol.
I'm not asking for people to "coddle" the culprits who attacked her online. I'm just asking we consider all the factors that contributed to this and saying we should not rush to judgment. Even at best, rushing to judgment won't bring August back and it could more probably just make matters worse.
Wouldn't you rather talk to Wheeler and the others before throwing the book at them? You can still believe what they said was totally wrong. I pretty much feel that way. It was pretty much totally wrong and misguided. But I still think we're better off defusing or averting future tragedies as tensions are likely still high.
Who doubts that the verbal attackers would take it back if they knew August would take her life? I bet most of them feel like shit and even without the backlash that's gone their way they'd very likely reconsider their words in the wake of the tragedy.

I doubt anyone will get jail time for it. I think unfortunately was having a bad day/week with her depression and other issues. The bullying probably didn't help but it wasn't the cause of what she did.
I think she found the adult business somewhere she felt safe and where she could be successful. She was getting good feedback and success with her work. The bullying probably made her anxious about maybe damaging her career, but she really had nothing to worry about. If an agency fired her there would be 100 lining up to sign her.
I am sorry people weren't there to support her through this difficult time and that she eventually decided to end it all.
She was awesome and the world is a worse place without her.

^^ Wow. Just finished reading.
(Sorry, I know I've already said this several times.) I think we're missing the point. You don't know what someone's mental state is. So, you can't go publicly making statements like that to someone.
Your point that people have been telling others variations of "I hope you die" since time began, doesn't really apply in current times. In the past, such statements were made privately, or when in the person's presence, for a defined period of time. But with social media, such things can be said to an individual by anyone, anywhere in the world, and they can literally be twenty four hours a day. (And with young people, just getting off social media is not an option, as that's how young people interact.)
In answer to your question, no, I don't think Wheeler should be criminally charged. And I don't believe the online attacks on Wheeler are going to achieve anything . In fact, they actually just perpetuate this issue: if you don't like what someone said or did, go online and deride, harass and threaten them.
This online world is still new, and it's definitely here to stay. So if harassing things are said to someone , we need to consider that we don't know what that persons mental state is.

^ I can understand how some people are responding to this tragedy. Someone who they feel didn't have to died and they want to have a villain to blame. In this case the people telling August all those terrible things are just assholes not criminals. Assholes online will always around and people have to interact with them at times. Normal mentally healthy people get annoyed or angry with them but don't take their own lives over such things. But when a person suffers from depression or some sort of mental issues dealing with life in general becomes a field of land mines. If the person doesn't get the help they need it's only a matter of time before they step on one of those land mines. On the wrong day it could be bullies, on another day it could be a break up, one day it could be a heated argument with a friend, on another day it could be a loved one dying, etc., etc.... The main and most important thing to take from all this is if you are suffering from depression or mental health problems try and get help. If someone you know is going through this try to make them get help or at the very least be there to help them try and cope.

Some continued even after , one has already been mentioned , , furthermore we're talking about her tweeter account , but as you can see many more were the attacks over her , many places , worst of all fellow performers who should have known better aqnd who didn't even bother to interact with her in any way whatsoever , only a very small lot actually tweeted there and only one got a lot of shit dtrying to efend her, it was Noelle Easton

Fundamentally i think social media is bad for a person's mental health and sometimes the best thing to do is put down the device, get away from it all and enjoy life. I think the world will eventually realise social media was a bad experiment and a huge waster of people time and effort.
Listen to the Holly Randall interview of August on soundcloud and you will start to understand how she felt about things.

She didn't make a mistake. She should be allowed to say no to anyone when it comes to sexual activity.
I do truly understand the stigma and hate that has been spewed over the years at the gay and trans part of the industry. However, the gay side does have different testing standards and we all know passing a current HIV test today does not mean you are "clean" as there are periods before detection or an HIV positive person can be on medications that can allow them to pass the current industry test. They need to look in the mirror and understand why a performer would be nervous to work with someone from that part of the industry and not instantly call it homophobia. In August's case, it was not homophobia. It was her desire to not have sex with people who have mingled with a part of the industry that is not at an acceptable level of testing.
So, she did not make a mistake. The mistake was people branding it homophobia and demolishing her for it. it is not homophobia to be frank about the HIV concerns in that side of the business. To be in denial and viciously attack people who question it, is dangerous.

The problem with the safety argument, by and large, is that it isn't actually based on actual numbers, though. It's based on bad assumptions, worse stereotypes, and people's feelings.
Yes, there are gay companies that don't test. This isn't every company, though. There are gay companies that have the same testing standards as most straight companies do. The problem is that this doesn't matter if when it comes to crossover performers. If you've worked with a male performer in the recent past, it doesn't matter what company you worked for, it doesn't matter if you and your partner got tested a day before every scene, it just matters that you did it at all, and that's enough. And the truth is that while some of that comes from the different testing standards, a lot of it comes from the idea that these men are also having gay sex in their private lives, which is seen as a risky proposition in general.
In fact, if we were to look at the actual numbers involved, a female performer is much more likely to get HIV from an anal scene with a straight performer than from a vaginal scene with a gay performer. According to the CDC, you're about 16-17 times more likely to get HIV from receptive anal sex than receptive vaginal sex, but also according to the CDC, gay/bisexual men are somewhere between 9 and 11 times more likely to contract HIV than straight men (or to get specific, of the new cases of HIV, about 69% of them are men who have sex with men, and about 7-8% of them are straight men, as of 2010). The anal risk is basically the reason that anal creampies are generally considered the most dangerous act in porn. Yet you almost never hear about performers refusing to shoot anal scenes because of safety reasons (at least in terms of diseases), yet you do hear about performers refusing to work with gay male talent for safety reasons.
Now, this is not me saying that I think anyone is prejudiced or homophobic or anything like that. I absolutely believe that August wasn't, and I don't think most of the people in the industry are either. And I do believe in a performers unequivocal right to work or not work with who they want, regardless of the reasons. But if someone is going to use faulty numbers or inconsistent logic as their reasoning behind why they will or won't do something, I think it's okay to point that out to them, and it's not bullying to do so. It's just a better idea to do it privately instead of publicly.

I enhanced the relevant parts and I quoted the whole post instead of just pointing to it because it's a complex topic and I didn't want to quote your words out of context.
That said , the first part is one of the most relevant , some gay companies don't test , none of the female stars nor their agents can be possibly supposed to track down every single gay movie, gay performer and crossover performer or even just male performer and keep record about what company they worked with , with whom they worked , and who their gay partners worked with and the previous partners of their partners and even doing so they have to keep track about the magnitude of their non test time either them or their partners.
I think you see the problem.
Also I don't think it's just a matter of private life much rather a problem of sex out of porn and that includes escorting which I believe is the main issue they mean to address when talking about "private habits" . Escorting was an issue in straight porn already until almost everybody begun to do that
Unless you state that no gay performer ever escorted or escorts
Anal sex is the problem rather than homophobia , there aren't issues with gay female sex there are stars who even turned to lez porn after a health breaktrough . But as you say anal sex either straght or gay is the riskiest sex act of all, and as it appears male gay sex is ALWAYS anal , it'd be riskier even when tested , as you pointed out many stars and agents have a "no anal creampies" policy in straght porn already why should they allow their talents to ignore a greater risk by performing with talents who perform in riskier business? If so there would be no point with having such policy.
It's a straght sex policy already why should it change when coming to crossover performers?
A no crossover policy is just a way to lower the risks even further , as you pointed out there are relevant risks with vaginal sex already (7-8% for men but receptive vaginal sex is riskier than active vaginal sex)
Plus I take those numbers are referred to regular people who fuck on regular basis with a limited amount of partners , lovers or occasional night stands and are scaring already , but we're talking about professional sex workers , guys who have some much greater numbers of sex acts and partners tham almost any regular guy and to add even further to this , some of them or of their partners performed untested.
Also it's not only a matter of HIV there are many other STDs , not as brutal as HIV but still would prevent a performer from working for a relatively long time , and may even be detrimental for their escorting activity , if any, because it may scare their johns.
so let's talk again about inconsistent logic

There is no way I will delete her, she was too beautiful. Hopefully I will be able to watch and enjoy her again after some time has passed, maybe a year.

This is well said. This is not homophobia to say "you know, I think I will err on the side of caution and not work with men who have done gay porn". There are HIV positive performers in the business who work condom with non HIV performers, there are HIV/HIV scenes, and there are companies that test and some that do not follow a 14 or 30 day requirement. So, why is it so evil to be uncomfortable? If Jessica Drake feels that one current test in the last 14 days fits her comfort level, and she will have sex with them, then that is great. It's her body. August was not spewing hate or falsehoods or trying to stop gay or bisexual men from getting work with anyone else but herself. She just was not going to do it herself and she said why and she gave her reasons.
And that Lockwood fella.... from what I recall, he was very "anti gay" years ago when denying he enjoy sex with men, and then he became a gay and trans performer. I don't think he has a lot of credibility as any sort of advocate of discrimination so he should just be ignored.
Mr Cyanide is your classic bully who does something dispicable and when there are consequences he does "who me ? I did nuthin , thats not what i meant". he also should be ignored.
I felt JD's tweets were fine, a passionate and assertive rebuttal. I did not consider that bullying. Disagreement is not bullying.
Whatever the case, the suicide is sad sad sad and tragic. I hope there can be some learning from this. Perhaps even some more open and frank dialogue about testing in the gay side of the industry that can lead to improvements. It will always be a question mark and hot button issue when they do allow HIV+ men to be in the business.

This situation is one of many that is wrong with society.
Why does everyone feel the need to post every waking moment and thought on social media? Are people so desperate for attention that we're actually concerned with what people who we don't even know think?

August had the right to refuse to work with anyone, that's not a mistake, your right. The mistake was posting it on social media and the way it was worded.

Social media now basically requires people to pile on the abuse. Pre-social media, it's similar to in high school where when someone would deride an individual, others had to do likewise. The difference is now it's not said behind your back, or for the time in the schoolyard, but (on the screen) right in front of you, twenty four hours a day, and from all around the world.
(I follow a local women's forum, and there's often articles basically saying: "this person said if women do ABC, they're asking to be assaulted; everyone call them names!".)
"What ever happened to just saying "Fuck you" to one's detractors"
If you're a young person, or someone with mental health issues, that's not so easy.
^^ I thought August Ames issue was she believed this was being hidden from her, and it would be hidden from the lady replacing her.

^Really, that's how social media works? Thanks, I wasn't clear on that. I have Instagoogletweetface and I have no idea what people say about me on them, how's that you might be ask, I don't worry about them nor do I check my phone 100 times a day to see what people say about me.

^ Sorry, I should have said *aspects* of social media, (and 'as we all already know').
So, when you were a teenager in high school, how do you think the advice to 'don't worry what anyone says' would've gone over? (I often think high school is just the real world, but without the "civility" of only whispering things behind people's backs.)
These are the final paragraphs from the article on social media i linked to above
"whether or not there can ever be a utopian social web, or even just a civil one, is a tough proposition, because that would require us to change, too. The behaviour social media fosters has always existed in the human spirit: town meetings organised with the best interests of all involved descend into hateful shouting matches; children are bullied in the schoolyard; someone always cries at a birthday party.
Perhaps the true horror is not the way we use social media to present ourselves to the world, but that in its dark heart of harassment, negativity and slothful complaints, it's rather more like staring into a mirror."

well Roscoe, social media has become a powerful tool in terms of branding, marketing, and generally spreading influence among the masses. And it's basically a must in the entertainment industry in some capacity
I mean, look at Greg Lansky, his models have to place pics of his photoshoots to their profile pic/background when their respective scenes release
However, it has unleashed the powerful wall of anonymity to allow many people unleash damaging hurtful speech, foreknowing the punishment will be minor at worst in most cases
