Appropriate what?
And attempting to brainwash people into not filesharing obviously won't work as it goes against human nature.
What will work however is to give consumers the content they wish to access when they wish to access for a reasonable price.
There appears to be a fair amount of inertia however to doing this.

Begging pardon for the aside to the issue at hand, but this notion that ALL wealthy people are evil, getting "rich off the backs of others" and that everyone believes only what is good for themselves is an absurd 'sour grapes' bitterness nourished by people who lack the ambition, industry and willingness to make the sacrifices that are always necessary to succeed, and by those stupid enough to think that success is something handed to people or stumbled upon by accident.

Sure, there ARE those that have succeeded by the philosophy of, in Lincoln's phrase," you work and sweat to make bread and I'll eat it," but there are many more who EARN their success and their wealth by years of preparation and hard work and good ideas born of innovative thinking, and if it weren't FOR these people, the rest of us wouldn't be making a living at all.
Some figures put at 85% the portion of our economy either directly or indirectly dependent upon these entrepeneurs who are willing to risk everything and do everything to succeed at their own businesses. I think they are entitled to enjoy the fruits of their labors, and, if those fruits include big houses and luxury cars or whatever, more power to them.
Back on topic, all the lame rationalizations for stealing porn off the 'net have been said and re said here and rehashing them now will achieve nothing, as it achieved nothing before.
Ironically, Zaer's link above, contrary to his smug dismissal of it, I think, sounds another of many signals of change in an industry that is doing significant things to stop what is increasingly hurtful to it. Those who assume it can't be effectively stopped or that they themselves are immune to the consequences of stealing may soon join the ranks of all those in history who have paid the price for believing that the status quo would never change BECAUSE it was the status quo.

You said "ALL"... I didn't....
Not in the world of porn there aren't... getting paid for what people do all the time for free????
Again... I postulate... what has more intrinsic value... the porn... or the tissue you blow your wad into... and why...
We're not talking about curing cancer... we're not talking about landing people on Mars... We're not talking about groking global climate change... we're talking about an industry that is trying to make a few bucks off of filming people, doing what everyone else is already doing for free.
Maybe the so-called current downward trend is just people telling the 'industry' what they've figured out the industry is really worth... maybe...

Based on your obvious disdain for the industry as a whole as well as the people in it who might have made some money filming "what people do for free", why do you spend so much of your valuable time discussing it? Almost 1500 posts? Seems to me that you feel somehow important because of your contrarian role-playing on ADT. You're not of course. You're like the kid on the playground who burns ants with a magnifying glass.

This isn't primarily a matter of laws.
It is a matter of morality.
I posted the categorical imperative.
And I post it again.
"Act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law."
It doesn't matter if filesharing isn't defined as a crime in your country's laws.
Downloading without the permission of the people who created the content is wrong.

No.
In a functioning free market the interplay of supplier and consumer decides what a reasonable price is.

You're mistaken.
Basic morals aren't an individual thing. They are the foundation of social coexistence.
Stealing is wrong. Everybody used to agree on this.
Perhaps you and other illegal downloaders don't agree on this anymore because you don't know the victims of your wrongdoing personally.

Again begging pardon for the digression, but you DID in fact, imply that ALL those who are in the porn business, which you interpreted to refer to those I characterized as 'alarmist'(which itself is incorrect. The alarmists I was talking about were ADT posters)) were evil rich people who got that way on the backs of others. The tenor of your above reply confirms your contempt for the producers of porn and reiterates your view that they are ALL undeserving semi criminal exploiters of those in their employ.
Moreover, my own observation was addressed to the ATTITUDE represented by ,"the ones who live in HUGE homes and drive big expensive cars having got rich off the backs of others already...[whose] beliefs are tied to their bank accounts....,".an attitude that informs your answer above, as well. The fancy term for it is "external locus of control, a form of helplessness that comes from a notion that everything is somebody else's fault, which, in turn, arises from one's fears about his own incompetence to function in the world.
In other words, you don't know the first thing about 1. The porn business or 2. Running ANY business.
I am continually astonished at porn fans, who know first hand (little pun, there) the value of porn, who nevertheless come on HERE, of all places, and declare it is of no particular value! A perusal of this forum reveals that there are a lot of very intelligent, intriguing, good people who like porn -- and a lot of dull witted fools, who don't recognize hypocrisy even when they fall over their own.
In point of fact, the entrepeneurs of porn take GREATER risks to do what they do, their business being a quasi legal one that constantly exposes them to arrest. The technical skills and business acumen required to shoot porn, to distribute it and market IT require no less preparation, innovation and hard work than any business. And many of those still making porn took part in the creation of this business, and were on the technilogical cusp in popularizing the VCR and its progeny, forseeing the social acceptance of erotic entertainment, and creating business models like Stagliano's Evil Angel in which producers become full financial partners in what they produce.
And no, "We're not talking about curing cancer... we're not talking about landing people on Mars... We're not talking about groking global climate change... "(thanks for the new word--I was never a fan of Heinlein). So why do YOU bring it up? other than to try to trivialize what we ARE talking about. Because something does not have the SAME value to you as curing disease or saving the planet, that does not prove it has no value at all. And, BTW, if people "do it all the time for free" the world's oldest profession wouldn't be a profession at all.
On the other hand, maybe it's just a whole bunch of unethical, selfish fools stealing because they assume they can't be caught at it, who are too stupid to realize that they are drastically reducing the amount and quality and variety of what they like, and using that decline in quality to try and justify their theft that is causing it.

I've stolen nothing...
Don't get the idea that I'm sat here downloading everything I can click my mouse at... When it comes to porn, I use torrents or tube sites to 'preview' material, because, to me, the vast majority of porn isn't worth my money. When reviews suggest something I might like, I'll often download it to see... if I like it, I'll buy it... if I don't I'll delete it and no harm is done.

I shoot a lot of home videos myself because the industry is extremely loathe to do what I want to see. Asians in sheer hosiery showing off their toes in RCA is not on their list of things to do. My big circumcised cock disappearing relentlessly up their poop chutes is something I never get sick of watching. I have found others on the internet who share my taste and I have faith that they will be making their shit available somehow. It is encouraging to see this unfold.
I do not like 99.9% of porn. It is cookie cutter garbage that is predictable and formulaic. Even the Russian porn industry with all it's hot, young, fresh talent is plagued by repetition. It's the same dudes over and over with the rumpleforeskins that penetrate like wet noodles. As much as I love porn, the industry has failed me miserably as of late.

Well I have, as I've frequently admitted. I just don't call it 'previewing' or justifiable, or anything but what it is: depriving the seller of a product of a fair price for what he has produced.
Hell, I buy used books, tons of them, that deprive their publisher, author, etc. of income they would recieve if I bought the books new. I belong to libraries. Do I have to justify that by saying the books aren't any good or that I'm only seeing if I want to but a new edition of the book? That would be silly, and it would only expose for all to see that I feel guilty about buying used books and going to libraries.
That's all this rationalization of free downloading does. It just proves that the ones who come on here and do it KNOW that they are stealing, are uncomfortable thinking of themselves as thieves, and need to find some way to say to THEMSELVES that they aren't really stealing.

Didn't say you should be.
What I said was that all the semantic rationalization simply suggests that you are. If one truly is not concerned what others think about their behavior, they don't waste time trying to affect what others think by explaining what they do. They just do it and shut up.

That's because you are a self-important, thieving douche. Wouldn't it be great if some arbitrary shadowy figure on a message board decided how much you could make? Or do you live in some socialist utopia where your government does it for you? Either way, you never answered my question about why you have almost 1500 posts on a public forum dedicated to something that you apparently have nothing but contempt for.

Because it's irrelevant....
I don't have "nothing but contempt" for porn (Maybe for certain people involved in it sure...) But I also don't let it blow sunshine up my ass.

Don't start with sorry and skip the point of the post I made. No matter what security you put up someone will always get around it, even if it is house security. I noticed you completely skipped the people who decided not to upload or steal since that doesn't help you. And yes, you are a criminal since you are receiving stolen goods. If the Mona Lisa was stolen and then someone picked it up in a country where it was legal to receive a stolen Mona Lisa they would still be a criminal. You are just a sad one since you don't even have the balls to admit it.
If one doesn't like the price, don't buy it, but that doesn't mean you can steal it. From what I understand of your argument if I decide I want something of yours and you won't sell it or offer to sell it for a price that I consider too high that means I can now justifiably steal the item from you.
I've never understood this about people who illegally steal movies, they always seem to come up with the implication that what they are stealing is garbage, so why bother to steal it if it is garbage. Oh, that's right, more justification for why it is okay and that you are supposedly not a criminal. Sorry I forgot.

We're not talking about the Mona Lisa... nor does file sharing remove anything from anyone's "stock"... I have an electronic copy of The Mona Lisa as part of a collection of pictures I use as my screen saver... I was NEVER going to buy the original, and my having that copy in no way detracts from anyone else ever owning the original.
All this is besides the point that there's no good evidence that any supposed slow-down in porn's returns is due, even mostly to file sharing...

Steal a movie, steal the Mona Lisa, it's all theft. If you prefer electronic terms, how about if someone stole your identity.
Prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that there isn't any connection to illegally stealing movies and a slow-down in porn's returns.

To me, it seems like the "troll" label is another way to cop out on a debate. It's a lot like saying your "paranoid" because you don't think jet fuel melted the World Trade Center. Or another good one is, You must be an "anti-Semite" because you speak out against the Rothschilds for both funding the Nazi party and founding Israel.
It's a debate. It's what intelligent and civilized people should do without getting angry.

That would be a great survey, if it does not already exist somewhere, which percentage of people who steal porn and never pay for it, would actually pay for it
if it was not available for free? Also, which percentage of people who both pay for some porn and steal some porn, would spend more money if no porn was available for free.
What we all should have available already is, how have industry sales grown since the proliferation of free porn on the internet?
For the record, I do not illegally download porn. I actually do not like watching porn on my computer, other than trailers.

Pre-2008, before the recession, sales for the industry were much higher. And they'll increase to roughly the same level once the economy sufficiently recovers. That's the primary reason for the downturn.

You must work for a video company AND have a degree in finance. Maybe all of you proclaiming these grand statements of "fact" based on nothing but your opinion should actually ask someone who works in the business. Historically, economic downturns have barely made a dent in porn sales. Trust me, as someone who's been doing this almost 20 years, it's free porn and pirated porn that's responsible for the drop in sales. The napster-isation of the porn industry is well under way. All of your "studies" from remote corners of nordic countries and all of your generalizations and rationalizations won't change that.
And in the end, the world will survive without new porn. Those of us who have made our living here will do something else and life will go on, but please stop with all of your facts, figures and studies that have no basis in reality. The business is going away. Just like the music industry went away. You can see a band on tour or a Hollywood movie in the theatre but these options don't exist for the porn business. The advertising model will never work because corporate America will never participate. The entitlement generation thinks everything is free and that's just the way it is.

You constantly state that there is no definitive proof that illegally stealing movies affects profits meaning you must feel it doesn't, so I would like you to do what you keep asking of others and prove your side, show the figures. If it works one way it must work the other way as well, correct? Prove that illegally stealing movies hasn't affected profits one cent. This is your chance to prove what you have been claiming for years here.

Well the industry doesn't keep statistics about sales figures, or if they do they don't make them public.
But based on statements from producers and insiders in the industry, during the first 7 years of 2000 sales were much higher, talent rates were higher, and the number of scenes and movies produced was greater. And at the same time the internet became more widely used, so by the logic of some, the industry shouldn't have been able to do well.
But it did.
And it was only during the recession, the worst since the Great Depression, from 2008 onward, that sales dropped significantly, along with talent rates, and the number of scenes produced.
So the industry's fortunes will turn as the economy improves.

Tube sites and torrent sites are a relatively new phenomenon and they have exploded over the past two years; the same two years that sales have dropped to historical lows. Please stop trying to convince yourself that the sky isn't blue and the ocean isn't wet.

I'm perfectly happy with the color of the ocean and sky. It is the ability of the internet to network with real people around the world and fulfilling requests that gives me optimism.
I wonder why nobody wants to address what I observe about the industry that may have some bearing on the nature of it's monetary loss. Observations on all the new titles leads me to believe that great hardcore anal sex between well endowed circumcised males and beautiful petite women is on the decline. Gay, abusive, inflammatory, incestuous material with overweight milfs is on the incline. How is that working out for you?

Again, not sure where you shop but my last movie had Tori Black, Andi San Dimas, Monique Alexander and Sara Sloane. Not exactly overweight milfs and no one was abused or made to perform with a relative. I think maybe you just need to narrow down your purchasing decisions to a few trustworthy studios.
