^ I'm not sure what the protocol is here. Am I supposed to take the apology back now? And if the apology (or lack of one) has nothing to do with your actions, why even bother mentioning the time stamp, since you would have apparently done the same thing either way?
As for the Hush Hush thread, that title was racist. Whether someone called someone else a terrible name or not didn't make it any less so, it just means that they shouldn't have said what they said (here or elsewhere). When I say bringing that stuff up had little or no effect, what I mean is that it didn't change anything about ADT, or that person's involvement in ADT.
But before you take the high road on that one... You were using every evasive tactic you could think of to defend your employer, including referencing Darfur (the implication being that because of the tragedy there, debate on a porn thread matters not, a tactic which is used by people to shut down any argument on the planet), comparing the idea of BDSM vids with titles like "Sex Slaves" to using the word ni**er (a ridiculous comparison which was dismissed immediately by both the supporters and the opponents of the Hush Hush title), and attempting to destroy the credibility of those who disagreed with you. It wasn't nearly so much about a poster's racist comments as it was about you playing spin doctor to defend your product.
[edit: typo. twice]

@nateglass: you'll notice I removed the name of the file-sharing site from your second-last post in this thread. I was hesitant to do so at first since it might look like I was trying to save my ass or whatever, but upon further reflection, since I have removed the names from all such sites in this thread (including them in this thread in particular seems especially inappropriate), I felt that I should do the same with your post. Anyone can find the information with the simplest of google searches anyway.
I hope you can accept my reason for the edit.

Perfectly acceptable. I hesitated to even include it, but didn't want to seem as though I was making a claim that could be not be substantiated.

It's interesting the big story this week at various media outlets is about newspapers charging for content. I used to subscribe to home delivery of the NY Times, which included free access to the online version. A couple of years ago they dropped the condition of a paid subscription and finally about 6-months ago I stopped the home delivery. Now, with Internet add revenue down, they are trying to figure out how to charge for it again.
There are sites like http://www.huffingtonpost.com, who create very little of their own content, linking back to articles written by the Times and other news outlets. This looks a lot like what is happening with porn and the various "tube" sites.
I don't see how any of this is reversible, especially for porn.

^ its not really reversible. There's such an abundance of porn on the internet that I have no idea why anyone would pay for it. Just like a newpaper I can get on my laptop and read all the free news stories. However with porn IMHO its only so many times you can see the same girls vag. It really doesn't change much. She spreads it, bends over, takes a cum shot. I jerk and go about my life.

Many reasons why the industry is killing itself and facilitating piracy.
First, it's necessary to recognize that the internet is killing many industries, even industries that don't rely on content property or intellectual property. Information used to be a valuable service, now it is valueless. Used to be when shopping for a car you had to talk to the dealership salesmen, today with the internet those jobs are worthless. Travel agents used to be a service industry that is no more due to the internet. Retailers are hit hard, physical store locations are too high an upfront cost compared to the cheap internet retailers (& sales tax free internet retailers).
Regards to porn, it's not so much the "pirates" that need to be targeted, it's the scammers peddling shit sites and screwing with credit card charges. One of the big reasons people don't pay is because there is no trust. There are pay sites out there that haven't been updated in 10 years. There are pay sites out there that do not have *anything* beyond the login. There are pay sites out there that do not contain the photos or videos seen in previews. There are sites out there for no other purpose than to steal your credit card and run up additional charges.
How many ads out there are along the lines of "horny housewives want to meet you" or "girls in you area waiting for sex" or similar. They are plastered _everywhere_. I rarely see ads for actual legitimate sites or retailers.
It is just too difficult to find something decent online. Took me 10 years before finding anything deserving of paying for. And oh have I been paying ever since... but there are still "surprises" that come along. Last dvd I bought, gosh, decent source material but they did a half-assed low bit-rate encode to 16:9 letterbox format, THEN used that as the source to crop & stretch & a half-assed re-encode to 16:9 anamorphic format - so the quality loss is compounded - and to top it all off they did not set the flag to say the encode was anamorphic!
If it's one thing all consumers *hate*, it is being scammed. And the adult industry is filled to the brim with scams. And _this_ is what's hurting the good guys much much more than piracy.

On point, among other reasons I buy porn, I purchase so that I can still enjoy my stash if/when it becomes illegal or more heavily regulated.

Don't talk about those things or people on here will call you a broken record and annoying.
I feel ya, couldn't agree with you more. What makes it all worse is that those "horny housewife" ads are put up there by sham "dating" sites ran by adult studios. I guess they'd rather rip off one guys credit card for $20 than make a decent movie.

I rent and buy the movie if it is good. The porn industry is having some difficulty. The lazy "buy nothing", pay nothing admirers are the reason the next Bree Olson, Sascha Grey, aren't there (I say it because the two are prime examples of where it should be). You are not seeing fantastic femes like Bree and Sascha because you arent spending. or better, arent there. No money. Wouldnt you love to see Veronika Zemanova? Damn. Just not enough. Join a rental, and pay for your porn!!!! Not to mention, you get the "full-deal" and get it all start to finish.
I just started showing my girl porn and we have had the best sex ever! I am getting some mad returns. She has learned to do some things like the girl on TV, and gives me more. You do not have that from clips, and being an under the table-jockey.
In my opinion, they should make more and do better than any Celeb, or Angelina Jolie. They are earning, acting, and spending days working harder. Naturally, shouldnt they earn more? Well, if you girl appreciates, it might be something and tides will change.
Really depends on whether you really enjoy sex. If it is, "boom, pow",.. good for you. But stupid if it stops there.

the internet is killing the cable industry too. Why would people pay for cable if shows stream on web sites and on sites like hulu free. What porn needs to do is figure out a buisness model similar to hulu or youtube. and stop creating so much garbage.

porn is a medium that people look at to get off. right now, you guys have lots of competition in various forms. on the internet, there are only so many people to go around who are searching for porn. some of them are getting their fix at free tube sites (which i must say is really kicking your asses, no offense).
some are going to peer to peer programs (i've not downloaded anything off of one of these in years, because no previews). some are sharing passwords(this is a pain in the ass to find these days. whoever is making it a pain to find cracked passwords to adult video sites, your efforts have not gone unnoticed.
then there is someone like me. i'm in the minority. i am an average black male. it is very hard to find exactly what i'm looking for to the point that i HAVE to pay to avoid the hassle. i don't watch white on white, i don't watch gangbangs, dp's, i don't like gagging blowjobs. 98% of the porn i watch is either black on black or black on white. most white porn stars don't work with black performers so my money doesn't work with them. when i spend money, it's definitely, definitely not on a "dodger."
when i spend money, it's not on a lame gangbang, and not on some jackass who is a walking stereotype. so most mainstream interracial is a no go. then i have to deal with not liking certain performers, and you know, that there are only so many black performers to go around. there are at least 5 black performers i don't like watching. i actually prefer if i've never seen the guy before.
my porn has to be specific, so i have to pay for it, and i do.

I've bought approx. twenty dvds in the last two weeks. I love having the whole movie, with a cover (I don't buy the second-hand 'no box, no cover art' deals), and I love being able to bring these movies to my favourite performers to get them signed and show them I support them. And I'm in my late twenties, so it's not because I'm an old biddy (not quite yet, I don't think).

I agree with most of the sentiment on here.
If we want to see more new good porn we should support the indusrty and buy dvd's rather than get our porn online or via piracy.
But as many of you have said, there is so much porn to be had out there fro free that there is no real need to buy any.
What about a donations site ?
I read on a major new site that the average top selling porn movies only sells about 8,000 copies. That is not many copies. And even at $100 a movie that is not much for the studio, director, photographer, actors, actress, make up etc ...
I have donated to a couple of software developers - free ware / shareware etc I gave them $10 bucks each.
So what if the porn industry set up a site where you could donate a few bucks to your favorite studio, director or stars.
They might make much more.
Imagine if every time you looked at a thread on here that mentioned Marie Luv or Jasmine Byrne it said click here to donate $5.00 to her !
We not need need to feel guilty while whacking off !

I use the tube sites to check out new girls or girls i have just discovered.
It saves you a lot of money. I do buy end up buying. You are killing the standard of the porn if the Industry cannot afford to make good porn and get the best performers.

Hell, you're so clever, why don't you think of a business model like that.
You tube looses money. Imagine the bandwidth they need. When was the last time you paid a cent to watch you tube ?
If you put ten mba guys, and ten interweb guys and ten porn producers in a room and said think of a way to make serious money from selling porn, I doubt if they could.
Not with so much stuff available to download for free.
The other thing with porn is, that you don't have to have the latest dvd like with mainstream movies. Its just as good watching 10 year sold gonzo, as the next one to be realeased.
I read on a reputable American news site that the top selling 20 porn moves of all time only sold 20,000 copies each(and thas just the top few) the rest only sold 8,000 copies. How can you make money selling just 8,000 copies ?
What has really killed porn is the dvd technology that allows one person to buy a dvd and then rip it and give it to his mates or upload it.

I purchase DVDs to support the industry. Because if the industry is not supported, the already questionable quality will go down further.

I buy porn, though I understand the hesitance of casual porn fans to pay when they're not sure the product they're paying $20 to $30 for is going to been something they'll watch more than once or twice. Pricing models regarding DVD, VOD, and Blu-Ray I think need to be rethought by the industry. At least drop the price a bit after the movie has been on the market for six months. Why are 2 or 3 year old movies still priced the same as brand new movies from the same damn series?

Strange. Exactly the opposite is happening right now imo. Many companies realize they need to put out better porn and listen to their customers more (or for the first time ever) in order to stay in business. Depends on how you define quality I guess.

I don't buy DVDs, but I subscribe to premium sites like videobox, naughtyamerica, etc. I think they're affordable, and I prefer keeping the videos and having higher quality than just streaming.

This makes little to no sense. When the industry switched from film to video the quality dropped massively, obviously most of the industry doesn't give a shit about quality, how are they going to improve it on the same dime?

I have been a loyal fan of porn for many years. I have never illegally downloaded a movie before but I'm seriously debating on whether I should start or not. I just feel like I'm wasting my money on a lot of the garbage being released. There are so many things in porn movies nowadays that are completely fucking up everything. It just seems like the producers/directors don't give a shit about the consumers. It really seems like an insult towards me whenever I buy some piece of shit that fails to arouse me. I especially hate crappy editing when a good camera angle and sex position lasts for 20 seconds. What the fuck is that? I'm also tired of shitty music being played in a porn movie. There are so many other things I can't stand and whenever I make a thread on here complaining about something I don't like, I get flamed by a lot of morons. These morons obviously don't buy their porn collections because otherwise they wouldn't be so sensitive to me complaining about something. If those jackasses aren't going to pay for their porn, why should I?

Regarding the trust issue, I'd like to repost in here what I've written in the 'dying industry' thread:
If there weren't so many companies who's privacy policy consists of 'send us your personal data at your own peril, we'll share it with all the world' there would be more distribution channels I'd buy from, that's for sure.
How hard can it be. Don't pass on my fucking data. Get a biller that doesn't either. DHD media is great. CCBill is not. The deal is money for porn, not money + my name everywhere for porn.

Their privacy policy says something along the lines of 'we may share data when we feel it is appropriate to comply with the law'. This is the case as soon as they sign a contract with anybody that requires them to pass on your data. Meaning they're free to do with your data whatever they want.
