Yes, I felt ambivalent about her being on Twitter and social media at the end. Not ambivalent about her personality, but a concern for her, because it seemed that the availabilty and constant interaction with her fans were too big of a toll for her especially keeping her struggling with depression in mind. The phone would always be near her, even when she had her down times and couldn't come out of bed. I can't imagine this being healthy for her mind to read negative comments in this condition, even if it was just one out of a thousand.
I adored her on and off set, even more so as I learned more about the person August. But it was definately not worth it with the facts at hand now (to know her this good). No performer/entertainer whatsoever should feel obliged to live their everyday life out on the social media. Mike Quasar tweeted something about this last night, which I wholeheartdly agree on. This decades pornstars private life is in most cases not patronized at all. Twitter can be a disease for the vulnerable and sensitive.

It was her decision to choose people she wanted to perform with. Everyone who criticized her for this had no business whatsoever in doing so. Yeah, they should be blamed for this. Pretending to be innocent after the fact is downright hypocritical and deserves no sympathy at all. Here's hoping karma catches up with these twitter bullies!

Please don't use this thread - or this forum - to attack or judge anyone. This tragedy should be impetus enough to stop judging people entirely. Can we please be the only community on the internet where we're actually kind?! Let's try.
I am so sad for Kevin and August's friends and family.

All valid points and I was in no way inferring that she should be charged. I was merely stating that there are laws in place, though I completely disagree over your view on the conviction. She knew what she was doing yet was either stupid enough to think that he wouldn't go through with it or didn't care.
IMO, August was in a bad place and this was the last straw. I've been there, at that point, If you do not have a so called moment of clarity or someone to talk you down, you won't make it. Sadly August didn't. Are there far to many overly sensitive people walking around who point at others so they do not have to deal with and can bury the issue for that day? yes. But that happens in all facets of life. I completely agree that any news organization should be held liable for any false and inciteful stories printed/broadcast, at the same time the officers did not file charges.
At the same time, to choose to work in a profession that depends on other people to watch and like what you do, then be shocked when others do not like what you do is an incredibly double standard. The days of not saying anything if you can't be nice have long passed. Anonymous/ pseudo keyboard warriors that can attack in order to feel better about themselves are a dime a dozen now. History has proven that, sadly, people wile tear others down to try to elevate themselves in one way or another. I am no no way condoning what happened to August, but to not expect that form of interaction, even from people in the same industry; to them to only be nice or not say anything if they can't be nice, is incredibly naive, because it isn't going to happen. It does on this forum because the rules are enforced and we agree to those rules when we sign up. As in other areas, there are no easy answers,

I've been feeling bad about this tragedy, I'm just so creeped out by what they did to her and so saddened because of what she went through alone. On top of hearing about how she did it in the end.
I guess that's why this hit me more than other deaths in the business. There are many sick beings responsible(some more to blame than others) and they will never be punished for it.

^Are we allowed to mention other names? Maybe Jessica Drake can get a pass(maybe not, it looks like she didn't care today untill she was getting negative tweets about her involvement) but others not. I saw one of the performers who attacked her post a "GOOD MORNING EVERYONE" in caps today, looking like it passively aggressively took a shot at not having a care in the world about having a hand in August Ames' demise. I feel sick.

Nobody takes responsibility any more. Words have consequences.
Jessica may not have meant them, but she still said them. Everyone seemingly attacked August without taking into account that it is/was her life.
Choosing to not work with someone unsheathed because there may be an elevated risk is her choice, and if you think that people won't cover up to keep working in any profession, then you haven't been paying attention.

This was not a bullying/issue but a mental health issue the trolling is just a convenient scapegoat, August was not just some insecure teen but a adult with 500k twitter followers who all wanted to fuck her, highly popular in the industry, married and even with all that she was still "alone" with no one to turn to and that was not enough to save her. She obviously had some serious mental health issues that were overlooked by her family and fellow performers and not addressed. I believe she was in that downward spiral way before that Twitter feud and was on very, very thin ice mentally and if it wasn't the trolling it would have been something else and nothing could have stopped this.

23 and her whole life ahead of her. It's tragic. But the reality is she was trying to help someone and was attacked for her opinion. To come to the decision that it is better to leave this world, her family, and friends rather than deal with the barrage and criticism of coworkers and strangers just goes to show how ugly we as humans have become. Seriously, what ever happened to being kind to one another? Whatever happened to "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all?" Whatever happened to accepting and respecting someone for who they are, not who we think they should be. We must realize that we are all different and always will be. Please, in Mercedes memory, let's try to look in the mirror before we post something online or do something to another and think for just a moment of how it may affect others. Only by our own personal actions, words, and empathy can we prevent sad situations like this from happening again and I promise I am going to try and be a better person moving forward. Life after all is too short for hate. My deepest condolences go out to all who knew her. I hope you can find solace in knowing that she is in a better place.

Pornstar August Ames revealed struggles with bipolar depression, family issues in interview before her death
^Eyeopening information. But the parasites who ruthlessly belittled August and backed her into an inescapable corner get no pass from this.
SJW philosophy is largely about making sure you don't have CHOICE, period. It's all about the collective; if the group doesn't think you should do something, you don't do it. Thing is, when you start treating individuals as nothing more than cogs in a machine, everyone's all of a sudden surprised that individual rights go out the window and you start having gulags for the unbelievers. It's gotten to the level of pathology that it doesn't even matter what the choice IS, only that the individuals comply with the will of the masses, to the point that a group that nominally should be against porn because they see it as oppression against women would INSIST that she fuck EVERYONE, because god forbid a person have preferences and make decisions that are best for them. I'd hate these people, but the amount of mental strain it must be going through every single day with that much cognitive dissonance floating around in your head has to be worse than anything I could wish on them.

I agree with Melvyn's thoughts in this thread. The issue for example with the Alaina Fox tweets is that she is claiming someone was a homophobe because she disagrees with her opinion, despite the reasons for her having the opinion not being based on a dislike or prejudice against homosexual people. According to August it was due to scepticism over testing which seems to be a fear shared by other performers. That fear may be unwarranted, it may be based on false evidence, I don't personally know, but prescribing to that fear does not automatically make you homophobic.
This is a huge issue with a lot people at the minute as well as an inability separate a person's views from the person. A person isn't necessarily bigoted because they hold negative views towards a certain thing or group, even if those views can be proven to be wrong. They could hold those views because they have read or been told misinformation for example and they could change them when provided with evidence to the contrary. Chastising that person, calling them hateful, stupid, a bigot, and demanding that they need to change is not going to persuade them to 'the correct' viewpoint. Usually it'll just entrench them further.
With that being said I cannot blame people in the industry who shoot both BB and BG for feeling hurt and upset over August's tweets, it's natural for many to feel that way when they feel they are being attacked; going through their tweets with the hindsight of this tragedy to claim 'blood is on your hands' is almost as disgusting as those who were attacking August - fighting perceived cyber bullying with cyber bullying.
This is a horrible tragedy but reacting with emotion (although this is understandable from friends of August) is not helpful and can just lead to us becoming what it is we're purporting to be fighting against.
RIP

Its tough to keep quiet about mr cyanide you know. He should be judged, and harshly. There is no grey area on the words he said and they should be a lesson to the keyboard warriors to understand they have free speech, but not freedom from consequences. People need to consider them .

Just read her response and man my opinion of Jessica has shrunk to the bottom of the barrel. This reads like a Sarah Huckabee Sanders presser...admit no regret and stand on some I'm a hero to the PC crowd only if it was in Trump's world it would be the reverse crowd. Bullying on any side is wrong. I stuck up for you Jessica on the claims against Trump and still do but you are acting like him in this regard. Sad...love you August and yes I suffer from depression for 35 years now and saying its all the disease's fault for her suicide is a technicality. We are losing too many women/girls to online cruelty.

Don't buy this stuff. She says she didn't target August's comments specifically because she didn't tag/mention her name nor she followed her on twitter? Does she think people are idiots? This is just a load of crap aimed at clearing her name from the cyber-bully accusations. A very weak attempt I must say.

Absolutely right.
Pornstar stuff aside, this is clearly a girl who was living with troubled thoughts. This isn't about me, but I can say my own depression and suicidal thoughts are easily awoken and stimulated by even the most anonymous people telling me I'm worthless. What she did to herself was clearly brought on by the words and actions of those involved in the feud. If you made any of those negative comments on her twitter or elsewhere for her to read, you should feel fully responsible for the mental gymnastics which helped create a false reality that pushed her to hurt herself in such an irreversible way.

Same here, and this time of the year, with the greyer skies and the early sunsets, is fucking brutal. I don't think that many people understand how enormous critical remarks are to someone who's going through a depression. Depending on how depressed a person is, negative feedback ceases to be a sting and becomes a sledgehammer.

I am very saddened by August's passing. I am also saddened by the aftermath. It seems that JD is the scapegoat of choice in a time of understandably high emotion. But the anger towards her is totally misguided.
I have yet to see anything resembling bullying or harassment from her. She simply disagreed with August's motivations for not wanting to work with that performer. There was never any suggestion that August shouldn't have the right to choose who she worked with. The intention was clearly to educate, not abuse.
Mr Cyanide is a different matter. That was criminally out of line.
It's a bit sad that this is being exploited by some to shut down debate on homophobia. I also question the hypocrisy of many porn stars who are banging the "porn women need to support each other, not judge" drum. Where was that sentiment when a well known female porn star was alleging rape against a famous male pornstar not so long ago?

Agreed. Not naming August was just her way of trying to cover her ass from lawsuits or charges of defamation. It comes across as her jumping on the bandwagon then jumping off it to distance herself from the consequences of bullying.

Behave. It wasn't even vaguely bullying. It was a difference of opinion. She just expressed that August's reasoning was flawed. Point me out one bullying tweet she made. I'll wait.

This event makes me remember the bullying that Lana Rhoads went through a couple months ago. She could be dead by now. Luckly she bounced back and is shining again as the best porn star in activity.

I have an opinion of my own and you will find that I do not answer to you, nor will I submit to your notion that I should think differently. Jessica only explained why she believed August's reasoning was flawed and that you pointed out Jessica was referring to August is an acknowledgement despite not naming her was as subtle as a shotgun in a bank. Regardless of the perceived flaws in August's logic, she didn't need to defend her refusal to work with someone beyond "her body, her rules".
It's curious that you've just signed up to push your pompous agenda and if you think that bullying and having a difference of opinion are mutually exclusive, it's not even worth discussing anything further with the likes of you if you believe the world works in polar opposites all the time.

So in short, you cannot find one bullying tweet from JD.
I never said August needed to defend her right to choose. But JD was entitled to express her opinion that she was drawing her red line for flawed reasons and making an unfair assumption about another performer based entirely on orientation.
This really isn't difficult to understand. I don't know why you are taking it so personally. I at least hope you wilk be consistent and call out those bullying JD online. I'm not pushing any agenda. I just despise the scapegoating of innocent people.
Especially when there are several utterly vile people who tweeted utter filth at August who are far more deserving of the wrath of the porn community.

What lawsuits? What defamation? The reason JD never names August is because she didn't intend the tweets to be directed at her. She was giving her opinion on the situation that August had started.
Regardless of the perceived flaws in August's logic, she didn't need to defend her refusal to work with someone beyond "her body, her rules".
This isn't an accurate summary of her tweet, it was meant as a PSA to the performer taking her place that the male talent had worked in BB before. It's completely her right to do that, and it does not make her homophobic (something JD never claimed as far as I'm aware), but it also doesn't leave her immune to being challenged. As you've said yourself, people perceived there to be flaws in her logic.
The vast majority of the women and men in the industry currently being told they are responsible for this death have done nothing intentionally wrong, Jessica Drake included. Collectively as a group they have made a huge mistake, but putting the blame at the feet of the individual is ludicrous. Dangerous in fact.
Anybody who literally told her to kill herself should obviously be ashamed of themselves. Kurt Lockwood wants to be ashamed of himself.

One thing that has been learned from this is that people need to calm down before commenting on these things.
People are so desperate to be SEEN to be greiving and angry that they forget to engage their brains. Plenty of examples of that on this forum and of course on social media.
These pathetic, insincere, oppirtunistic grief vultures give the rest of us a bad name.

Difficult question:
In a case like this, what do you guys think should be appropriate response from all the content distributors who still have August's videos and photos up?
Continue the monetization from her work or remove it out of respect?
If they want to keep it up, would masturbating to it be wrong?

I was shocked to read the very sad news about August. She was one of my favourite performers. She seemed to be a really nice person and her career was doing well. I know from her twitter account that she had struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts. I'm saddened to see that social media impacted her so negatively and eventually led to her death.
RIP August. You were awesome and the world is a worse place without you. Have fun in Heaven.

I learned about this tragic news today. May she rest in peace.
Internet/social media can be a vicious tool sometimes. I just hope that if in fact it turns out someone's action/words pushed her over the edge, that person(s) becomes exposed for all to see. Cyberbullying does not get as much attention as other crimes, but it most definitely should be dealt with more seriously.

This is pure speculation. Nothing supports it other than your belief that JD is a 'bitchy type'; she has given her reason for why she never tagged August.
It's speculation like this that lead to people calling August a homophobe in the first place.

I don't follow Jessica Drake at all and I don't know if I've ever watched her stuff but does she take such a strong stance about pornstars working with black men as she does about working with gay men? I really don't know, I'm asking. If she wants to tell others how wrong their thinking is about who they should work with she should have that same attitude across the board with any male performer. She's so proud that she worked with gay men but has she ever worked with black guys and felt so strongly about it? Again...I'm asking because I'm not sure. If she has that's great. If she hasn't...she really needs to back down.
As far as August goes...I'm sad to hear of her death. Bullying of any kind is a bad thing. However, I'm personally more upset that she didn't get the help she obviously needed because if she truly okay she wouldn't have taken her own life over some online bullying. Sorry, but that's not the kind of thing a mentally healthy person does. Yeah, it's totally messed up that people would attack her online but I wish she had gotten the help to before hand to handle things like that or whatever other things life would've thrown at her. It would seem that she was fragile if it wouldn't have been this it would've probably been something else that made her make such a tragic choice...and that's a really really sad thing to think about when there's help out there to help anyone who's having those types of problems. Bullies or not the most tragic thing is this wouldn't have happened if she got the help she needed.

Jessica Drake has been in the biz for 19 years? I've never even heard of her until now. Perhaps she was jealous of August's popularity.
