I think it's more that they've earnt that in one specific month, most likely their first month, and it's implied that they earn that every month.

Like this article I saw today. But this author didn't imply it, they just outright stated it.

I would say you don't need OF to get any of these things since social media will get you most of what you want and if the models cams then you will get you the rest. Now if cam shows are included with a models OF membership at no extra cost then okay but otherwise you are being scammed out of money to join a OF account just so that you can then pay even more money for interaction with a model that a camming site doesn't charge for.

There are a couple of well worth it pages where you pay like $20 all inclusive but few and far between. The "big name" girls are all a ripoff from what I've experienced.

Also I don't know that I would use the term shopping when referring to OF as a whole because it implies that you have the ability to actually pick and choose what you want when in fact you are just buying a magic box where you hope it contains what you were looking for instead of something you regret and let's not forget that the cost of those magic boxes isn't cheap. As far as OF, Abigail Mac has good stuff and so I've bought a bit from her and a couple others. You hill likely pick up stuff you end up not liking, true. This one performer tried to convince me to buy a mystery bundle when I was 90% sure I had 90% of her GG content already, and I basically had to pull what was in the bundle out of her, and yep I had most of it. All of the girls in this folder are gorgeous women who have never done B/G hardcore (or have only shot a few scenes of woefully pathetic quality). I imagine that fans of sites like Onlyfans have a similar mindset as I have. If not for what these women put up on these sites, then they wouldn't have the opportunity to admire *cough, cough* them at all... and so they are appreciative to just to have the opportunity of seeing women who would otherwise have never gotten into the porn industry and all of the known problems that lifestyle choice entails. So we would never even have known they existed in the world at all... let alone ever seen them naked or doing sexual stuff.

So in this regard I completely understand why someone would like site like Onlyfans... especially when we are talking about amateur unknowns and the access to them that sites like Onlyfans provides, which without we would never get to see as consumers.

However, in regards to previously active pornstars who now have an Onlyfans page. I find myself less enthusiastic beyond mere curiosity of what they have been doing since then and how they are looking years later. But as for actual XXX content? I usually have a plethora of well shot, high resolution scenes of them in their prime and most enthusiastic at my fingertips at any given moment. So comparatively the "value" is inevitably going to be less for me than it would be for a beautiful amateur women I otherwise have never seen before. Especially if the content they are offering on their Onlyfans page are of low quality.

The exception to this is of course "firsts" they are offering that they never did in their professional career. This IS likely to peak my interest. Although admittedly due to the low production value although grateful to see it I am more often than not left disappointed and would obviously have by far preferred the event to be professionally shot (more varied angles, higher definition, better editing, more refined experience overall etc).

The other appealing aspect to sites like Onlyfans that comes to mind for a consumer is the ability to take advantage of asking them to create "tailored scenes" just for you. Basically offering the chance to get a pornstar you have a particular fancy for and becoming an offsite director to get them to perform something that is specifically tailored for your personal kinks and fetishes. Assuming they are willing to for a price and that you have the expendable cash to make it happen. You can even pay to get them to "call out your name" during well... whatever you want, if you wish. Unfortunately in this case my own personal porn quirks would be probably pretty expensive and ironically likely out of my own price range so I have never actually been able to indulge in this particular service.

But I can certainly see the appeal in this particular option. And this in particular was certainly not an affordable or realistic option for your average consumer in the pre-Onlyfans sites porn industry. This is essentially heaven for obsessives of particular pornstars and for also fetishists for whom "standard practise" in the porn industry never managed to scratch a very specific itch they have... and who have money to burn to make an offer.

Regardless of all that, I also most certainly understand why the content creators themselves become involved in sites like Onlyfans. Control over your own content especially since YOU and your body IS the commodity being offered is obviously a much smarter way to go as most of the money being generated both now and into the future is going to end up in your own pocket. Purchasing your own production company is very expensive and has a very high risk of going belly up, while sites like Onlyfans makes it very affordable and low risk and doesn't put you at the mercy of certain exploitative assholes inherent to the porn industry. So if I was them I likely would do exactly the same.

It must suck for aging pornstars years in the future to realise they have little to no cash in their bank account while there are other people who are STILL making money off them and the old scenes they shot with absolutely no compensation whatsoever coming their way. I remember reading an interview with a previously very attractive and popular US 90's pornstar, who at that time decades later was quite literally homeless (and looking more than a little worse for wear) who has seen that her old scenes had been included in yet another "compilation" DVD release and was still making the owners money. For a scene she was paid about $500 for at the time and never saw a dime after that. Which legally was perfectly fine and was the deal she had agreed to at the time, but in hindsight and from the perspective of someone who didn't even know where their next meal was coming from (or even "if")... is obviously a less than optimal outcome.

Sites like Onlyfans help to negate this possibility as a content creator... legally what you create remains yours and (in theory) will continue to make you money, even if it is 50 years from now as long as there remains people in the future willing to purchase it. Which makes complete sense to me... even if that content is not exactly high grade.

So while I certainly can't call myself a huge fan of Onlyfans generally myself... I'm definitely glad that such sites exist for both consumers and content creators for a number of good reasons.

Onlyfans is not a savior. If a girl stops regularly posting, the revenue declines dramatically. And there is a symbiotic relationship with mainstream porn where shooting porn helps their OnlyFans subscriptions.

And of course, bad spending habits are hard to break, regardless of the source of income. Just look at how many professional athletes - who make millions per year - end up broke.
