Thanks. They aren't allowed. But they are more than once tolerated.
If the thread starter advertises a link to pirated porn the thread gets locked.
But if the thread starter posts the link and asks for a name the thread won't get locked until he gets the correct answer. Sometimes even mods answer the OP's question.
I think ADT draws a distinction between pirate threads started by providers and pirate threads started by consumers.

Thank you, BigBobxxx.
You can find two links posted by Crucifixio_Jones and me in this thread yesterday.
But frankly I'm not interested in a job as ADT deputy sheriff.
I posted my opinion on this issue.
How to deal with it is up to the mods and admins.

I'm aware of that. It was just an example. I wouldn't have bought most of the CDs I own now if I couldn't try them out for free somehow. Also, my other point was that I really believe that honest people will be more likely to pay for good stuff once they know it's good. I wasn't going to buy those CDs anyway without hearing them first.

Honest people are more than willing to pay once they know its good. All the money I spend on porn (with the exception of the Fashionistas movies) has gone to VOD sites (I couldn't justify the time, energy, or bandwidth to download a movie I've never seen).
But simply put, if I had more disposable income, I'd buy more porn. I'm too old to be stealing anything.

I'm not sure how to respond to that. I'm sure Shaun would be amused, but do you think Malone could handle writing the type of very clever and dark style of humor Costello so brilliantly scripted for this film.

I was just joking about a remake of Waterpower, just a riff on all the TV parodies that are currently popular, but I do think that porn needs to take more chances. It's strange that the 70s produced more bizarre and out there porn than modern porn, you'd think with the low production costs more people would be willing to just experiment and fuck around.

I think that's a huge problem...well one of many. Production values obviously aside, those older films possess a unique quality and personality modern films as a whole tends to lack or is somehow missing. No idea was too bizarre and virtually no subject off limits. Damn it looked like they were having a whole lot of fun back then. These days, I just don't see it as much. Well I do, but I gotta look damn hard to find it.
Like the music industry, porn I think even more so, porn is gonna have to find a way to control and police it's film and content. A lot of people simply aren't gonna pay for something they know they can find for free somewhere online. Pornographers may simply have to start going after those illegally downloading their copy-writed content much the same way the music industry did with napster...if it's at all even possible.
Porn may simply have to get leaner much like the auto industry looks like it's gonna be forced to. Some think there are way too many crappy automobiles being made, and there are more than a few who believes porn films, in general, are crap. And like automobiles, they ain't buying any. Like the auto industry who assumed people would buy whatever they put out, Porn filmmakers I think also assumed people would simply buy whatever they put out. Both were obviously wrong. Give the people what they say they want though, and you shouldn't go wrong.

Yes, that's true, but who wants to pay $30 for an adult film that has 2 hot sex scenes out of 5 or 6? I'll admit it wasn't the greatest analogy, but people aren't gonna shell out hard earned bucks for crap or inferior product either. Of course this doesn't apply to you from all the hot stuff I've seen from you. Again I don't know how you stop the piracy, but better/hotter product is something the industry can control IMO, but doesn't.

That's bullshit
Stormy said that "a mere five fucking hours after ODS was on shelves, you could find it online in its three hour entirety for FREE on an illegal file sharing site." Same with Mike's stuff.
So, you really want to tell us that putting heart, sweat and money into productions prevents online thieves from stealing?

^ Its not that production values will prevent thieves from stealing, its that better product would be more resistant to the most pernicious factors in decimating industry revenues; tube sites, and amatuer porn. Tube sites and amatuer porn have both taken off because consumers no longer have to buy dvds to be able to obtain the scenes. Youve got to produce movies that can be appreciated above and beyond the scenes. Very few porn title reach that quality.

I could make the greatest porn movie of all time and it would still be on a torrent site within hours, right next to Slumdog Millionaire and the as yet unreleased Wolverine movie. Quality has nothing to do with it. People actually want it more and will make extra effort to make sure they don't have to pay for it.

I think you missed the key word in Stormy's post: "entirety".
The 'only one good scene in a whole movie'-argument is so tired and worn out.
In the age of broadband internet people steal the whole film.
That's theft. Period.

Oh you guys are right. I forgot that "Pirates" and "Whos Nailin Palin" were stolen so much that the respective companies lost money on them.....
Give me a break. Ive never seen a Pirates scene on edit, the biggest tube site out there, where a scene can be seen 3-5 million times. I have seen a few scenes from the first "pirates" on edit, but if there are any "pirates" scenes on edit now, they arent getting many viewers. The movie just cant be appreciated by watching any one of the scenes. Im sure DP does a good job of staying on top of its content but if the demand for the scene is strong enough -and I would think it would be for the biggest selling adult title since Deepthroat - multitudes of people would just keep uploading them. Part of the reason scenes from certain movies arent on the tube sites is because the public demand for is for the whole movie.
The torerent sites are another issue. Certainly the torrent sites are responsible for diminishing sales to some degree but not to the degree that a good movie cant still make money. Most people in American still have enough money to buy content that they want. Its just easier to spend 30-50 bucks on movie that is going to entertain me than it is figure out how to set up bit torrents on my computer. But when you ask consumers to spend that type of money on inane dialogue, and the same male performers fucking for zillionth time, or female performers fucking their boyfriends and call it a movie they are going to start figuring en masse that they can get that nut a lot cheaper if not for free.

^ You aren't going to win anyone over dude. The people making the product will always see it as stealing. Some of the consumers will see it as weak product. Most of them will continue doing what they're doing. Buying or downloading.
On unrelated note. I remember some punk band(I think it was Refused) released a album on cassette tape with a note. "Home dubbing is killing the music industry. The other side of this tape is blank, feel free to tape whatever you like." I always got a chuckle out of that

Exactly my point, and at least one of the many excuses I hear pirates make too. I wasn't dismissing the piracy issue, hell I wrote two different paragraphs against it. I just think you gotta at least start with something you can control and work against the negatives as you go. I don't know if the (2) adult "Pirate" films were illegally downloaded or not, although you suggest they generally weren't. It's my understanding that they all made a lot of money though even despite piracy. So Quazar's suggestion that it can't happen in a world of computer piracy has already been disproven. And how is it "Pirates" isn't downloaded while so much other content is? I actually want to know?
And aren't adult films copy-written once they're produced on disks? Why is it that adult and mainstream films can be illegally reproduced, while most television broadcasts and I believe most mainstream music cd's and other media can't? Are these guys or girls really that hard o find?

No, and that isn't what I actually said. I was simply saying those that wanted to buy it legally, would. Not everyone downloads or downloads illegally. Just something I think industry types should be aware of. Until this piracy crap gets controlled and hopefully stopped entirely, those that make films damn sure better be concerned about overall quality and content, since it may be all they have to bargin with right now.

I think you missed the point entirely. Was Wolverine of inferior quality and therefore illegally downloaded over a million times? No. It was downloaded precisely because so many people wanted to see it. Where do you get this idea that "Pirates" hasn't been illegally downloaded? Of course it has; many, many times. That doesn't mean that it still didn't make money but it would have made more if it hadn't been available for free. As far as anti-piracy measures go, once you rip a DVD and upload it to a torrent site, it becomes viral and impossible to stop. A content producer may be able to trace it back to the first person to upload it, but the damage has already been done.

^ Ok I see your point. You know that money can still be made you just want to express disapproval of the act of illegal downloading. Thats fine. It certainly is true that every film released since the dawn of the internet age would have made more money than it would have. Its also tru that the industry is missing the market opportunity that was exposed by the success of "Pirates". Consumers want content that is entertaining on a number of levels. This is part of the strategy the industry may be able to apply to be able to deal with the tnew technology.

i don't think that there is any way to dissuade people from downloading porn illegally, whether it's by the scene or the whole movie, and just like the music industry, those who make porn are going to have to find ways to tempt people to buy the physical object. it won't be long before it's as easy to download a film as it is presently to download music and when that happens both porn and hollywood are going to feel the burn in the same way that the music industry currently is.
multi-coloured vinyl, digipacks, gig tickets, t-shirts, screen print posters, etc are the ways that music makers are making me hand over my money for their product- basically, things that can't be downloaded, legally or otherwise. it obviously needs to be different things when it comes to porn but that is what imagination is for.
i seem to remember belladonna including 'do not disturb' door hangers in the dvd of, surprise surprise, 'do not disturb'- a little thing but enough to pique my interest for sure- at the moment, merchandise for evil angel (the only one i've really looked into) is crushingly poor- no t-shirts, no books, no imaginative posters, nothing but (admittedly great) DVDs.
i reckon imaginative diversification is the key.

I think working with the internet providers and the police can help.
If a private internet access has a download volume of more than 10GB per month then send in the cops to check the harddrive.

That's why it can't be stopped. Monitoring peoples internet usage is far too Orwellian and unacceptable in a free society. Ironically, it's our commitment to privacy that enables people to steal with impunity.
For me, the only bright spot is itunes. if we can adapt to that model or something similar, we might stick around for awhile. Otherwise, see ya later.
It will probably be 20 years from now, when Hollywood is bankrupt and the financial incentive to create is dead and buried, that people might finally see the damage they've done by the theft of intellectual property. Your options for new entertainment at that point will be relegated to the occasional clever piece of UGC on a youtube-type site or some garage band on MySpace hoping you care enough to see them play live.
Personally, I'd rather pay money to hear the next "Dark Side of the Moon".

I maintain it's not the downloading itself that's the problem. It's that the people who download don't seem to buy anything ever.
I mean, I download things all the time. If I like an album I've stolen, I'll buy it. Because of this I've been exposed to so, so many bands and spent literally hudnreds of dollars on them, from albums to live shows to merch.
I know I'm the minority though, which is the problem. I treat downloading more like selective radio or borrowing a cd from a friend than my main media source.
I think when people say the product is inferior what they mean is that they're totally jaded with everything and getting it for free is the easiest option for them.

This. I have "tried" out new cd's as well. But, when there is a release from a band or artist I love, I never download it. I wait till its out, buy it, and listen to the cd itself in the best possible quality. Great feeling. The downloads have been for stuff that I am curious about or that people have recommended to me. I don't know how many people do that, but I suspect it might be the minority as you say.
If the internet Gestapo that was proposed above ever came to visit me, I'd have hundreds, if not closer to thousand, cd's and dvds to show them.

Oh, don't worry...they won't. They'll still throw out the same excuses. We've seen what's happened with the music industry and the amount of record stores that have closed across the country and that didn't slow those people down one bit. Then there's people in the business (like you) flat out telling people it's wrong and how negatively it's hurting the industry and people still say "No, that's not why...". You're in the business, make the product, see the numbers, know how things work, has done the research, have to live and deal with it everyday and yet when you try to point out to people the negative affect of all this...they blow you off and basically tell you the illegal stuff has very little to do with the way things are and it's all this supposed "bad" product (that apparently isn't too bad to steal) that is even keeping the "good" stuff from selling.

If millions of interrs keep misusing this freedom, something will happen.

There are indeed a lot of challenges ahead for porn studios and all kinds of content producers. As a director and producer I have had to adapt quite a bit in recent years. I branched out several years ago from focusing on the shrinking DVD market and started filming a lot of videos for a wide variety of adult websites all around the world which keeps me pretty busy. In addition I run some of my own web sites. As many commented here in this thread, both the adult DVD studios and the online adult website subscription model is in trouble nowadays, especially with so many people who know how to download content for free.
I agree with some people's comments that something like the itunes model makes sense, although not at $.99 per video! Sites like Clips4Sale pioneered selling downloadable clips & full length videos and have given independent, amateur and fetish producers another lucrative distribution platform. Based on my experience with my clip stores I recently revamped one of my main adult websites at JimGunn.com to offer my lesbian scenes for download through a token system for $5 and $10 apiece and that also has given me another way to monetize my videos. Believe it or not, many people are willing to pay that for a single scene to get instant gratification and download a high quality video to their hard drive even though they may (or may not) be able to purchase a five scene adult DVD for not much more than that. Savvy producers will look for as many ways to make money on their content as possible, but only those who have really high quality or unique content, and multiple distribution channels are going to make in the future.

That has to be one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. Setting aside your reckless contempt for human rights, only consider the following:
I have a legitimate subscription to an online studio that shoots its own material. I have watched more than 10 GB of high definition movies on my subscription this month.
What do you think I would do if the Juha Gestapo were invading my home every month? CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION of course. And so would everyone else who is paying money to that studio. Please - ensure brain is engaged before putting keyboard into gear.

oops...sorry i pressed the button before writing.
i'm just an old fan of adult entertainment, but here is my two cents. the industry is probably dropping in sales for the same reason the music industry is losing money.......internet access, mp3 downloads and a focus on hits directed at highly specialized market segments versus artistry. in adult dvd's there seems to be similar market segments separated by body part, shape, industry, fetish all with no plot and emphasis on getting right to the "point." if its BBW then here come the food jokes and boom start humping. tits? after a predictable tease on to the titty humping and the same 8 choreographed positions for 4 or 6 scenes. its boring stuff shot in HD or with wonderful equipment....looks great does nothing or little for you.
the theatre era, as in pre-vcr might be something i'd be interested in.....like plots for a change. obviously there wouldn't be theaters any longer, but what about plot driven, well written productions available for download. i can't help but think about something like "Maid in Manhattan" with Vanessa, Jerry Butler and others.....funny, well acted and Fffffing sexy and hot! lets see some acting chops to go along with the sexual prowess.
finally....WHERE ARE ALL THE "REGULAR" WOMEN AT???? the strong tendency towards commodificaton that i've seen since i first saw porn @ an old LA Pussycat Theater on Western Avenue in the early 1980s forces every single woman to get a boob job and lose tons of weight no matter how great they look without it. you might remember Tia Son aka Kitty Yung. lovely korean-american woman with a typically korean body and face, little breasts etc. after 2 or 3 years in the industry here comes the boob job, some kind of facial alterations take place and by the time she left the industry here natural sexiness was gone. in the end wouldn't she sell just as much being herself? why do producers and agents ferment this culture of drastic plastic surgery when REALISM IS SO HOT!!!!
my two cents anyway, perhaps natural will make a comeback in an unfetishized way (ie. BBW films that feature voluptuous and normally proportioned women clearly not obese woman who are marketed as "fattys?").
