This is the worst economic situation since the Great Depression and it is getting worse. This is why it feels like porn is dying. Most industries are having similar problems because they too expanded in a reckless manner. Some examples: automobiles, boats/yachts, Harleys/Hummers, restaurants, 95% of retail, airlines, REAL ESTATE, banks, insurance, entertainment, schools, charities, pro sports, cities, states and on and on.
In previous recessions people could always get jobs in retail and restaurants, but they are cutting back dramatically too.

I didn't say something "new in porn". I said something "new"...as in completely different. Besides it's all been done before...there are only so many holes on the human body, after all. :)

Frankly, I think a lot of the stagnation comes from the fact that they've been using the same male talent forever.
It really should be obvious. People love freshness. The "Teen" area of the market really never gets old to those who like it because there are just so many new girls coming in all the time. The problem is that they pair them up with the same tired old guy who's been fucking for a living for so long his dick doesn't even work right anymore.
The men aren't really hungry for the women. That's huge! If porn is boring when the girl isn't really into it, it's a huge snooze when there's no real fire and life in the male performance. We want to see guys who go at it the way we would if we had the chance. Not a guy who's been doing it every day for 20 years.
Porn could be so much better if they just spent as much time, energy and money on constantly finding new (and good) male talent as they do female talent. And I suspect the ladies would be more into it as well.
Addendum - And fake boobs too. A picture really is worth a thousand words sometimes.

Even if you try very hard to keep it fresh, new and exciting the main problem is still piracy. The internet has become the new wild west, people can steal anything they want and there is never anyone accountable for it.
I find my stuff constantly on Tube sites, you have your attorney send out a letter that costs you money and if it comes down the guy running the Tube sites has it up on 2 other Tube sites the next day.
Stormy said id best it's like coming out and finding your car gone, Something you put your own money into. lets not forget the time you spend putting the whole thing together, thinking of ideas/box covers/titles, Etc.
The people that do this are not the type that would ever come to my house and break a window to take my shit because they have absolutely zero balls.
People are complaining about quality, but if you cannot break even on your film then you find yourself having to lower the budget on the next one and it only gets worse from there.
2009 has been our companies best year ever so far. But it is only because we are very well diversified, we wear what I think sometimes are to many hats. We travel for live shows, we film movies releasing only about 12 per year, we do pay per minute private cam shows, we have toys, clothing and now we are talking about getting into online adult gaming.
If we only produced movies we would have been gone because of all the piracy problems we have had that drive down sales to a break even.

Piracy is an issue throughout recorded media these days and people aren't afraid to flaunt it either!! I have several coworkers who watch pirated movies all the time and don't mind bragging about seeing it either. Those of us who pay for our movies, cds, etc legally are paying more for what we buy because of these thieves. I can totally understand why Stormy and others would be frustrated. I wish Stormy well in whatever endeavor she tries as I am sure she will be successful. Nothing wrong with trying new things and trying to keep your work intriguing. Best of luck to you Stormy in your music video directing work and I hope to hear more about your possible mainstream project that is in the works once you can spill the beans on it! I have every confidence that you will succeed in the mainstream simply because your XXX features are good movies not just good XXX movies!! You have the talent and the drive to be successful at anything you put your mind to. Thanks for the clarification of your statements Stormy!

^I wonder if they put some sort of anti-piracy "public service announcement" kind of thing at the beginning of adult DVDs, if it would make a difference--featuring the contract stars of the various studios in a polite, thought-provoking statement.
Perhaps this might have some effect? A lot of the people who watch porn feel something of a connection with the stars--it might have a chance of making a dent.
Maybe not...might be worth a try, though...

I met 2 guys that do piracy for a main source of income. They both have regular jobs working for an internet company making a middle class income of about 50k per year and showed me that they make twice that stealing content and they are proud of it.
They stated that they love when people like Metallica cry about people doing illegal down loads and live in mansions when they live in just an apartment. I said to them yes but Metallica created something with there heart and soul, then you stole it from them and made money. They both laughed and said fuck them no one can stop us and we are making money it will go on forever, there is nothing anyone can do about it.
I use Metallica as an example but they showed me not only music but movies that they made thousands off of selling them at $3.00 a copy, Movies that are not even out yet or are not yet on DVD. They said fuck the rich now we are getting are share.
They told me people are also tired of getting ripped off at movie theaters, $20 for 2 tickets $5 for pop corn and $5 for a drink when they could get it from them for $3 and watch it on there big screen at home.
Both of these guys are total pussy boys that would piss themselves if they had to rob from a store or actually fight someone in real life, not in a game. But they talk like they are the tuffest guys in the world from behind closed doors on a key board. Saying fuck those guys I'm gettin paid.
These are the kind of people we are dealing with in today's market.

@ fu_q - If it featured adult stars, today's pirate would just illegally share the PSA.
@ Chester - I notice you keep coming back to today's thief's lack of "balls" but the truth of the matter is, stealing is wrong, regardless of how "tough" you are. Not to mention it's an unfair stereotype. Not everyone selling bootleg CDs and DVDs, etc. is a "pussy boy." Come to Baltimore. D.C. Philly. I'll show you the guys who peddle their wares on the streets and subways and you tell me if they wouldn't break into your house. Most of them used to do just that.

Chester, I could not have said it better myself! I know people like this, too! I'd love to show up at their house with a baseball bat. Fuckin pussies! I even have people bring illegal copies of things for me to sign. If I am in good mood, I flat out refuse. If I am in a bad mood, I take it from them and break it. Either way, I am called a stuck up bitch. I just don't care anymore.
I like the idea of a public service announcement. That is something I will work on, for sure. It also starts with parents. Most people doing this are under then age of 25. They do not even realize what they are doing is wrong because they have sort of grown up doing it. Allowing your child to burn music or movies is no different than going to the store and letting them shoplift a candy bar. Stealing is stealing. Where I grew up, if you could not afford something...well, you either saved up for it or you just didn't fucking get it. End of story.
It all goes to the very root of what is wrong with this country in every aspect...people are just not being held accountable for their actions. There is no honor anymore. I may be a bitch and a lot of people may not like me, but even those who hate me will tell you that I am honest (brutally so), very hardworking, and definitely NOT a thief. America was built on the dream that anyone could make/create/build something, sell it, and be successful. If you broke into the furniture maker's shop and stole a table, you would be punished accordingly. You were stealing his creation and taking money from his family. The same should apply to intellectual property.

When you are born n raised in Inglewood California then yes everyone else I meet that steal are Pussy Boys that includes the mean rumble tumble streets of big bad Baltimore.
I'm one of the very few on here that put a real pic of myself up. So that people know who I am when they meet me and I always speak my mind not hiding behind the computer.

Stormy, you are correct about the parents letting there kids download free music for there Ipods.
It's not even a matter of the people that are pirating right now it's going to be a future generation that has been brought up thinking that everything on the net is free and it's okay for it to be passed to there friends for free.

You're so caught up in talking about yourself and how bad-ass YOU are, that you're missing the point, Big bad Inglewood. Whatever. Far from the meanest placest I've been or ever heard of and if you think being born and raised there makes everyone else "pussy boys", maybe you'd better STAY there. Because I'm sure there are a ton of people from neighborhoods near and far that'd be willing to test you and your "I'm so tough and everyone else ain't" schtick.
I don't know who you're referring to specifically, if anyone, but I've personally never hidden my face. That ain't got nothing to do with where I'm from or where I was raised but just remember to count me amongst the "few" who put up "real" pics of themselves. Not because I have anything to prove, that's just the way it is. I just don't have anything to hide. I swear, only on the internet does showing your face constitute supposedly being "hard"...
But back on the subject, I think the reason today's parents "let" or "allow" their kids to download music for their iPods is because the parents themselves don't know any better. I doubt they are familiar enough with today's technology or copyright laws to know or even care what their children are doing in the privacy of their own bedrooms. To them, crime is still old-school. Actualy STRONG-ARM robbery, things like that. They can't even fathom that their child might be committing an actual CRIME in their bedroom on their laptop.

So piracy keep robbers in retail, thus reducing need for police and courts and jails saving taxpayers untold millions? Maybe it's a good thing! ;)

On the other hand, vinyl LP sales are booming. Which goes against all logic, if you presume the raging dominance of the "all that is solid melts into digital downloads" theory of media distribution and consumption.

I was not talking about anyone in particular just generalizations from past experiences on here. I was originally talking about these 2 guys I met that talked a lot of shit about stealing every ones stuff, They where computer nerds that showed me there studio and how much shit they take. Those are pussy boys.
I don't give a fuck if you live on the mean streets of Baltimore, If your gunna do a home invasion than you're a pussy boy also. Because you wait for the house to be empty, You rarely show up when people are home OR call first.
I know that if there was no internet and the only place they could steal a copy was at my office only when I'm there then I would never lose a single copy.
And yes I am very full of myself and I know for a fact that if someone came in trying to steal shit I would beat them until there brain matter came out.
I work 7 days a week for the life style I have today. And then for some lazy fuck who probably spends his days fuckin off playing X Box to steal it instead of spending more time working on his own shit to get a head then Yes I'm very full of myself and pissed off.

I ain't gonna keep going back and forth with you, "Chester."
All I'm saying is, regardless of how upset you are (and I would be, too, if someone was illegally benefitting from my hard work. Maybe that's why I'm not in your field...) if you think that everyone who deals in piracy is some computer nerd or "pussy boy", you're sadly mistaken. That's an unfair stereotype, not that you'd recognize that; that might require you to get out of the mirror for a second. Because for all your anger, your bluster about beating people until their brain matter comes out is really just that -- all bluster and words on an internet messageboard until you have the chance to make good on it. You might be able to take some of these pussy boys pirates but no one here really needs to know that you think you can singlehandedly beat'em all up. You sound like a fuckin' high schooler.
As far as your ideas about real crime and home invasions, I'd rather not waste my time talking about how theft is about opportunity and NOT getting caught. Robbing someone (which is wrong, obviously) when they're not home doesn't make you a pussy, it makes you SMART. Why put yourself through the extra hassle and then possibly get ID'd, genius? To PROVE something? Jail is full of bad-ass people like you (trust me, I know) yet the pussy boy computer nerds are living free and showing YOU their studios with no fear of repercussions. Hmmm, I wonder why.

True...but if it were included in enough videos, the people who patronize the pirates might start to have second thoughts...
Or...they might not...
It couldn't hurt to help raise awareness...

It would probably be worth a shot -- at least to help raise awareness -- particularly if others did it, as well...
Maybe even as a small part of a larger campaign that someone could envision...

I too think it would be wise to raise awareness about this isssue. Most people who download porn for free probably don't even know how bad the situation is for the producers. They believe in the old "sex sells" myth and think pornmakers are rich anyway. Before I came to this forum I had probably thought the same thing.

I'm not trying to justify it in any way but it has to be said. Many of the people who do it would probably consider themselves basically honest people (I know that sounds stupid but hear me out). For instance, they probably wouldn't walk into a store and steal a brand new TV or computer (for example) even if they knew for a fact they could get away with it.
So what is the difference? A brand new TV is a reliable product. It does exactly what it's supposed to do and you know you will be satisfied with it for years to come. You know exactly what you're going to get. My opinion is that it isn't the price or the fact that stealing it is so easy to do. The problem is that it's hard to justify paying for an unpredictable product that leaves you completely and utterly out in the cold if you buy it and don't like it.
Like I said, I'm not really so sure the real problem is piracy/file sharing/whatever you call it. You're assuming everyone who grabs it from a tube site or whatever would buy it if they couldn't steal it and I just don't think that's true. Obviously, some people are just pathological thieves who'll steal anything that isn't nailed down. However there are people stealing various types of media who would actually try to track down the owner of a lost $100 bill and give it back. So I think there's more going on here than "It's so easy to do and there are no consequences".
Right now, the porn business seems to be bursting with people who have no real talent for making good porn. The background noise is incredibly high. What sets your product apart and how do you demonstrate that to potential customers? Samples are fine but it's not hard to make a sample look great and almost all samples look great because they're designed to.
Let me put it to you this way. I believe in supporting people who do good work because I know what happens if people can't make money doing what they do. I bought every music CD I own but I checked a couple of CDs from almost all the artists I'm familiar with out from the library before I bought them. I would never have discovered a lot of the stuff I like without being able to try it for free. I just can't afford it.
I believe people will pay reasonable prices for stuff they know is good. It's that big question mark that causes a lot of people to download stuff from tube sites and the like. And that just makes it worse because whatever the original quality was is probably shot to hell because they compressed the fuck out of it. So your problem is that not only are people watching your stuff for free but they may be (probably are) watching extremely inferior copies of it that may have even been modified in other ways, leaving them with only a shadow of the original product. In my opinion, this is worse than just posting a couple of free movies on your own web site every month and letting people download it in full quality for free. At least they will be seeing it the way you meant for it to be seen and if the original was high quality, they will know it. People want to know what they're buying before they buy it. Porn (And similar media) is a totally different kind of product from a new TV (Or pretty much anything else). In most cases, you can get your money back if you're not satisfied with most products.
Let's say that overnight, a million TV manufacturers popped up and most of them made TVs that quit working in a month or didn't work at all. Let's further assume there was no warranty or refund on any of them. Don't you think new TV sales would drop like a rock?

But you're doing exactly that. You're bringing up the same lame excuses we can read in any other thread on this topic.
If you're not sure if a Chester or a Stormy DVD will get you off, rent it from your video store to check it out. But going to tubesites or using peer-to-peer is theft.
You're stealing from the creative people and you're stealing from the honest customers.

That's why we do the screening for our customers, when we put a title in our catalogue, we give them a money back garantuee, to quote our website: "Money Back Guarantee of Satisfaction.
Your new show is guaranteed to delight you in every way possible. If it fails to do so we will refund your payment in full, without question, at your request."
When I was still a punter, I rented a lot of titles and the videostore guy would help me pick the good ones. So the excuse of "try before you buy" is not a valid one, there are other ways to help you decide what to buy. Have you noticed that they have this thing called "reviews" on this site?
One thing you are right in though, the tubesites are horrible quality, I just can't understand people are happy with that.

I spent quite a bit of time trying to put together something that was honest but still respectful to the folks in the industry. When you keep hearing the same thing over and over, maybe it's worth listening?
Yeah. You have any idea how many adult DVDs there are at my local video store? How many should I rent? I've got Twenty bucks to spare this week, before gas.
I never said it wasn't.
I'm not stealing from anyone because I don't do it. I've seen a couple of videos on a tube site because I was just curious about it. It's not a habit. You obviously didn't really read what I wrote. You read what you wanted to read.

Which brings us back to dispense with a product.
This doesn't seem to be an option for anybody these days.
If you can't afford it dispense with the product or save your dimes until you can afford it.
There isn't such a thing as a human right to download porn, music and other entertainment stuff for free.
Most people never had enough money to buy all the porn they wanted. They bought a VHS and watched it over and over again until they were able to buy the next one.
But today it is all about instant gratification.
Nobody wants to wait, nobody wants to save up, nobody wants to dispense with.
This attitude isn't only responsible for the porn crisis.
This attitude is responsible for the whole economic crisis.

Not sure if this will help.
The same guys who post in the porn pool that paying for porn is an old-fashioned habit, tell the girls in the star crossed threads how they love their work and how they would love to see them in this scenario or that sex act.
I'm afraid people won't think about the consequences of their behaviour until the day they won't be able to find new porn on the net.

Despite Stormy's well-founded anger, addressing this as a criminal issue invites solutions that would give the State increased ability to monitor our actions. As a lover of freedom, I oppose anything which subverts our privacy and which limits the free-flow of information over the internet.
Instead porn should embrace the long-tail on the internet. Someday, someone will figure out how to serve the long tail of porn* and will become the first porn billionaire.
When this happens, we will probably see the emergence of Indy porn in a big way. This will not be the death of porn, but its rebirth. The pie will grow because porn will become an impulse purchase. The studio's slice of the pie will grow because the video stores will be taken out of the picture, and the studios will become masters within their niche, namely offering excellent production values, and, in the case of Wicked, a story supported by stars who can act. There will be thousands of chicks like Joanna Angel who become big stars via the internet.
But remember, Larry and Serge weren't librarians, Steve Jobs wasn't a musician, Pierre Omidyar wasn't hanging out at flea markets, and Jeff Bezos didn't own a bookstore.
The first porn billionaire is very likely hanging out in his dorm room downloading bit-torrents right now.
* I can't imagine a product more tailor-made for the long-tail than porn. I also believe that I know what needs to be created to serve the long tail, but the business side of it would be challenging. You would need to form alliances between parties that might not get along at first, and the producers would initially balk at the concept.

I don't understand why all these "ID please"-threads are tolerated by the ADT owners.
Example
No honest consumer needs these threads. All the information needed is on the DVD or the VOD website.
Each day people start threads with a link to "free porn" and the question for the name of the girl. Deleting these threads immediately would be a good start to fight piracy.

This is completely different though as the library paid for the albums that you borrowed from them. So money was made from you trying the albums. Rental copies, be them free from a library or for a price from a rental outlet, are paid for. Those that download for free off of sites illegally are watching copies that aren't paid for.

Ha, so predictable all the keyboard Assassins start out with the same sentence.
I ain't gonna keep going back and forth with you, "Chester."
OR I don’t wanna get started with you “Chester”
But yet you’re compelled to write over & over.
Directing shit at me when I read other comments about
“I'd love to show up at their house with a baseball bat. Fuckin pussies!”
But yet you’re compelled to make this a me and you thing.
What now we are not allowed to vent our feelings and emotions toward our work being jacked. Because the Mighty keyboard Assassin Douche Crucifixio_Jones will pick it apart.
You’re such a Douche. My story was about 2 guys I directly met among many others that I know that are doing the same thing.
So like I said they are all Pussy Boys “Yes a Stereotype.”
I got a biz to run so have fun.
Sincerely,

The overproduction and massive drop in quality in pornography happened long before downloading was a possibility.
So I don't buy that as the reason for the poor quality of a lot of porn, although I'm sure that the economic damage of downloading does contribute to the race to the bottom that has defined the industry since the late 80s.

I agree with this. I always found it so obvious when someone asked for an ID of that sort. Especially, when it's a new member's first and only post. I've even pointed it out in this thread (even though I ID'd the girl anyway...hey, sorry...I'm a big fan and I wanted other LEGITIMATE fans to know about her; that was my SOLE reason). 95% of the time when someone asks for an ID here, it's generally from some pirated, 'tubed or otherwise illegally obtained copy.
Take a look at what I said about piracy in that link I provided above, "Chester" if you think I'm not on you, Stormy Daniels or anyone in this business' side.

Sounds like a good title for some new Japanese series.

Most people don't think it's a human right but some think it's perefectly fine because they've rationalized reasons in their minds why it's okay and no big deal. The rationalizations are usually pretty lame but they tend to stand by them because without them they'd have to admit what they do is obviously wrong.
We've all heard the excuses/rational before...
"The product sucks...", "They charge too much...", "They already make a ton of money...", "They've been ripping people off for years..", "If I like it I'll buy it later (usually doesn't happen)", "I only wanted one part and it wasn't worth paying for the whole thing..." "I didn't have the money...", "They don't really make much money off this stuff anyway..." "I wasn't going to buy it anyway, so they aren't really losing anything...", "Everyone does it...", "I think they want us to download it, that's why it's there...", "I only watch/listen one time anyway, it's not worth buying..." etc., etc., etc....
The people who took the time, effort and money to produce this work tell people time and time again not to download this stuff because it isn't the right thing to do and it might all go away if they don't stop but some people just refuse to listen and go right back to the excuses.
Amazingly, before the stuff was available for free people had to deal with not having that stuff or taking a chance on buying it. Because yes, that how life works...you don't always get what you want and you take chances with being disappointed.

Thanks. I hope not to piss off Steph and Drew but if you asked me to speculate on the reasons for this acquiescent disposition to piracy I would say that they don't want to loose traffic.
If ADT became a totally no-go zone for all the people who steal porn, they would join other porn boards instead. If ADT lost traffic it would loose ads and Steph and Drew would loose money.
Piracy is a cancer. It already affects business decisions of prudent businessmen. Ignoring piracy supports piracy indirectly.

^There are, however, many reasonable / legitimate circumstances that one could envision that would bring about someone wanting an ID on a girl / scene.
There are plenty of legit sites where there may be a trailer, a pic, a sample clip, the picture on a legit banner for a legit site, etc., etc. that someone is interested in and would like ID'd. They could also have seen a part of a film in the past that they borrowed from someone or saw on the Playboy Channel or rented and remember only what they saw in the film...then it later sparked an interest.
All of these things are innocent and legitimate...yet might be swept away if there is a general assumption of guilt for those types of threads.
Being too tight with things doesn't help, either.

Yes. If he describes the scene from his memory or puts a link to a legit site that's fine. But if the question is paired with a link to pirated porn then its not a matter of "general assumption of guilt".

This is an interesting thread for sure. But instead of crying in our beer why don't we beat these thieves by making some porn that features women with full bushes getting banged on shag carpet by some dude in a Saturday night fever outfit. Add some really cheezey music and release them on Beta-max tapes. That will fix those pirating bastards! LOL It worked in the 70's, surely it will work again right?

I think Jake Malone should do a remake of Waterpower.

Fair enough... but I'm surprised that such links are allowed... I thought that they weren't.
I agree with you.

^ The links to stolen content aren't allowed. But, unless Steph, Drew or a moderator tries the link (and recognizes it as such), there are some that are bound to slip through.
How about this...
ADT members who come across links to stolen content should post something to that effect in the thread, and/or e-mail a moderator about it, so it can be dealt with.

a quote from Kenny Red from documentary "American Pimp"(1999) sums up what a lot of posters think about porn:
"same old soup, just re-heated"
