I was just at a Von's In Woodland Hills. The parking lot has been expanded, overflow parking wraps around the side of the store, the same side shipments are received. The trucks were left open while employees were chatting in the warehouse. Of the many types of packages sitting around, I saw one box on the ground clearly labeled DVD 50 CT.
Chances overwhelmingly good that I could have easily thrown that box of 50 new mainstream movies in the back of my SUV and left without repercussions of any kind (except in my conscience, of course).
Does that mean I should have? Would you have?

Why are you guys wasting your time playing Groundhog Day with ServerZ a/k/a Solar4, nirado, Roger83, and god knows how many other account names? You're saying the same things you've said before. He's saying the same things he's said before. It's never going to be any different.

Those are physical copies of movies, so it would be theft to take them. Why even ask the question since you already know the answer?
And were you planning on responding to the racism thread with your knowledge of pay rates among industry girls based on race?
SS# and Bank account information is to be used by only one person that much is obvious. As for copies of legitimately purchased content, they can be distributed without deleterious effects to the bottom line of the content owner if the receiver of the copies wasn't going to purchase them. If they were, then of course it would represent lost profits.
No, I'm saying that it's demonstrably false for content owners to say that every free copy of their content being downloaded is a lost sale given that humans when they can't pay for something will take that which is freely offered to them or is freely available.
Also it's already been established that it's copyright infringement to download copyrighted content, it does not fit the classical or even commonsensical definition of theft no matter how many times it's said in an attempt to sway others to ones position.
The example was used in the context of stating that humans, when they can't afford something in this case Widescreen HDTV's, will accept that which is freely offered to them or is freely available. In your eagerness to prove an error you missed that basic point.
Firstly you would be wrong in your accusations and secondly most discussions on most topics rarely break new ground yet humans continue to discuss them.

The filehosts are falling like dominoes. The FBI has them pissing their pants. Tube sites don't matter because it's only the casual non-serious viewer who uses them so they aren't potential porn buyers anyway. And torrents are too extreme; the technical price is too high to make them a common threat.

The argument about whether the porn would be purchased anyway reminds me of something I just went through. I had an accident in a rental car. I wasn't carrying the rental agency's insurance but my own. My insurance company refused to pay "loss of use" of the vehicle during its repair unless the rental company could supply logs demonstrating that the car had a high likelihood of being rented if it weren't for my accident. There may be a way of conducting studies to determine just how much impact free downloads have on a given movie.

Even if it were technically possible, there is no sufficiently independent party to conduct such a study. The industry has a motive to exaggerate the impact of piracy on sales. The "freedom proponents" have a motive to downplay the impact of piracy on sales.

I find it humorous this topic has been going on for years now but was probably summed up best with one of the very first posts by "realtrip";
"If porn is a dying industry, I think it has more to do with triteness than anything else."
Porn is not dying - "American" porn is dying. It's just a cultural hyperbole now akin to WWF wrestling. Could be better but nobody tries anything new....

Also countless studies have shown that downloads don't significantly affect the profits of the recording and movie industries but they're busy pushing bills similar to SOPA anyway.
Fundamentally it's about how much extra profit they can make, and the evidence to the contrary is irrelevant.

How about you provide URL links to any two of the "countless studies"?
Otherwise, I say your claims are "irrelevant."

Given the way you asked the question, you've already seen the counter evidence and ignored it, so what would be the point?
Furthermore, a discussion like this is like a discussion on politics and religion on any random message board. No matter the information provided no one is going to say, "you know what, I was wrong about my opinion and based on this new information I've changed my mind."
Now moving on, since this War on Piracy seems to be going the way of the War on Drugs, I give it maybe 15-20 years before it's realized that it's futile trying to prevent people from getting what they want and cooler heads prevailing and finding a more reasonable solution to the issue short of destroying the internet.

Whenever the studies have been posted they are always the same two, unscientific, statistically meaningless online surveys by interest-groups with a vested interest in defending downloading in the name of their notion of internet 'freedom.'

The best lesson I earned about theft, was from my father. He told me that if he ever caught me stealing anything, he would burn my fingers on the stove.
Men and women, who work for a living, should be paid for services rendered.

I've "seen" nothing.
You've provided nothing.
You offered an opinion as fact, failed to support it when challenged (remember, you said "countless studies" -- which means they must be summarized in some written form) and then smugly attempt to try and turn it back on the questioner.
If you want to "change people's minds," you should try introducing some factual information to support your position(s).

Theft is the first half of the story. Since Brazzers is squeezing out the competition, the Brazzers fake boobs look becomes necessary to get work, so there's nothing left for natural lovers to watch. If there is still a thriving porn industry, but it's all fakes, then that's dead to us.

As I understand it Madoff was busted because he bilked other wealthy people out of their money and even then it took the financial enforcement agencies years to getting around to do something about it.
So the two situations aren't comparable. Nor do the definitions even fit, which is why such conversations as this are meaningless.
That's an interesting "debate" strategy Harri. Whining about a poster because you don't like rationality introduced into an argument.

Hmmm...the 90's - the time of the five scene feature rip-off, 'don't touch me' pornstars who acted like their shit didn't stink, abysmal production values AND you're saying the industry creamed it. By the way, who was handing over the money? "Look, I gave you $60, you gave me five scenes of crap. We were never even"
Now there are more eyeballs watching more porn than ever. More beautiful young women are entering porn than ever. Older stars are hotter than ever. And the industry is angsting all over the place. Says more about the industry than porn.
If the industry had honored some sort of social contract back then and given us value for our 90's money...well, what goes around comes around.
Not justifying stealing or anything, just explaining why I have no sympathy for the industry. Porn ain't dying but I'm not holding out much hope for the industry.

I don't think it's a dying industry but it definitely lacks into the creative and beauty department aswell as the acting.
Other than maybe females who actually watches the Story Plots? Cock, aim, squeeze mothafucker! That's all there is to it 90% of the time (behind the scenes and introductions should be the only things that get a pass. I'm not totally against it all becuz sometimes it adds "sense" or spice to it but other than that who gives a shit.
But a lot of "producers" dont interest into the details and specs like we do (or even have that type of budget) so that's another reason why it lacks. I also feel when u over-rely on talent it waters down your material/catalog (word to EvilAngel). There's a lot of amateur talent and video out there but it lacks marketing and even just as importantly it lacks a good camera and director. Again, budgets play a factor but they shouldn't be the end-all-be-all if u have access to certain knowledge on the Internet. And if u have a team u should tell them to do more than just bring "talent", but sadly that's when egos start to get involved.
So basically when it comes down to it it's 75% laziness and 25% economics. It's not everybody's fault that u didn't wear condoms growing up. #justsayin

Porn is not dying. There are more independent amateur producers than ever before, and more porn fans than ever before, as the rest of the world catches up with high speed internet.
The old business model is dead as far as hiring agency girls for $800 a piece, paying a director to shoot for you, hiring a makeup artist, renting a location, etc, and then making a profit by just selling dvds.
Anyone in any city can buy an hd video camera and some lights, and become an instant porn director, and to a lot of fans, that type of amateur content is more appealing than seeing the same handfull of agency porn girls that they see in every movie that comes out of the valley.

True. But HD-Quality and professional lighting and settings still beat out Amateur-Quality porn anyday. It's even better when everyone else is watching too (Brazzers, etc.). With all due respect I don't think Amatuer porn can outdo that.

I understand what you are saying, and of course, there's nothing wrong with a company shooting the highest quality content that they can if they are still making a profit, like the extreme example you gave of brazzers.
That being said, I don't think that the average viewer of porn cares as much about skillful camera work, and perfect hd video, as a lot of industry people think or wish they do.

The only thing you have right is the part about having more porn fans than ever before. There are truly many new porn fans but these great fans are so f..g cheap that they only use tube sites to get off. How can porn not be dying when all the producers content winds up on a free site where they get no money for their hard work? There was once upon a time many independent producers but the recession and tube sites have pretty much killed most of them. Their sites might still exist but they aren't updating with new content.
The old business model is dying but that's really terrible. Having an agent working for the girl is a great thing because the agent has contacts that the girl doesn't and it's his or her job to find the girl all the work she wants. Trying to break into porn is next to impossible and finding work not that much easier either. Not having a director means that anyone with a camera thinks he's the f..g Steven Speilberg of porn. He isn't and the stuff that these people put out is often crappy amateurish crap. No makeup artist means that you get to watch girls with pimples, skin blemishes, razor burns that show all over their body instead of being hidden by the application of makeup in the right places.
Yeah every Tom, Dick and Harry can buy a camera and film himself having sex with amateur girls but what you wind up with is dancam and tripod stuff that is so badly shot that you might as well not even bother. Can you name me five sites where you found that great amateur suff you are talking about?

Any major porn company that doesn't own a tube site is already two steps behind the game in todays climate. Follow the leader. And the $$$.

I heard Tori Black said in a interview that porn company's owns and runs the free tube sites.
So why is the porn company's trying to kill the porn industry for it's don't make any sense.

^itunes may have helped the muic industry but it's the courts that killed music piracy. Anyone remember Napster? Napster thought that illegal file sharing was all fun and games until they got sued for millions and lost. How many torrent sites have shut down in the last year because the law was about to get them or actually got them?
There is already something similar to itunes and it's called Videobox. You get access to over 12000 dvd's for very little money. It's not perfect and there is plenty of room for improvement but you still get a lot of good porn for very little money.

It's a well known fact that Manwin(Brazzer) owns many tube sites and although it appears that they are helping to kill the industry. I think that their ultimate goal is not to kill the industry but to wound as many competitors as possible so that they can then buy those companies for very little money so that they can control as much of the industry as it's possible. They already own Playboy, Digital Playground, Twistys, Reality King, Mofos, Brazzer and the list goes on.

A couple things of note here; iTunes success is due more so to ease of use than legality. If one can open up, buy a song for a buck and have it in 20 seconds, it's much more user friendly than trying to search for what you want on a Napster/Limewire type utility, and having the hassles of waiting, viruses, poor versions, etc that are inherent to those programs.
Also, sites like Rentadultvideo.com and VideoBox work like Blockbuster Video type outlets where the store buys the distribution rights for a fee and then makes the profit off the rentals/sales. Also VideoBox is a monthly/yearly sub site, an I'm not sure how much of that goes back to the video producers.
In addition to this, most of VideoBox's content is years old and is all available for a flat fee. Rentadultvideo's content is newer, but only full videos can be bought/downloaded, not scenes as with VideoBox. I'm not aware of an iTunes-like service currently where one can buy individual new release scenes (like songs) from multiple companies for a smaller fee, like iTunes offers.

A big factor why they haven't done good is they were way behind the curve in adapting to new business models and technology, while others (music, TV) where way in front.
There's no reason for this except for producers arrogance thinking good times will last forever. Huge rule in business, you have to adapt.
Plus we've gone thru the biggest recession (I still say it's was a minor depression) in history early 20th century. Porn isn't exactly a consumer staple like food. It's not recession proof.
Where was porn's Netflix, when back in late 90s early 21 century? All porns business model and distribution changes were way way later than most of the other sectors. A small sector can't do this, only big sectors like TV, movies industry can tolerate the economic consequences.
To say it's piracy, piracy, piracy is simplistic and naive IMHO.

Isn't there an overkill with porn right now ? You can get it everywhere on the web.
It are hard times for the producers right now, how while they still make profit with their studios ?
Same as for the performers, they have to perform all different sex acts to stay in the picture.
And they don' t earn that much money anymore just with plain fucking, i've found a castingagency in Hungary that offers actresses that perform anal sex for $ 525 a scene LMFAO.
Unless you're a contract star you've literally got to fuck your ass off......
I think in this era a star like Jenna Jameson had never become such a big star because they didn't do anal scenes or DP.
In the '90's this was not an issue i guess but it's hard to find any pornmovie without anal sex nowadays.
It's the same shit over and over again, but it's a different movie.
I loved the Private movies back in the '90's.....

English is not my native but I may say: porn would never have been an industry... but now too much people (models particulary) need this industry to survive without talking about the producers and promoters (executive producers) that need the porndollars to maintain a "high" (?) standing (way of living).
From the begining porn was a "carricature" of sex between boys and girls and it became a kind of box where all frustrations are shaked in... where porn was an Art it became a mainstream's war horse (youth are confused between r'n'b clip dancers, ass-shaking strippers and pornstars).
Yes sex is sellin'... but it is still possible to have good porn and good oustanding sex acts for the lust or fantasms of the "spectators".
I'm particulary disappointed about the lack of "risk-taking" concerning the investments in promising models (maybe these ones won't last as long as I expect in the porn biz). With the explosion of the high speed internet connexions, the camgirls are ruling the web... they are gettin' money and they are not "forced" to act with males (with all that implies).Aside, there is more and more live sessions, which seem to be the porn future (more -false- reality tv ?) even if I'm not convinced about what this "new porn" will really brings aside the glory, simply because the web streams are easy to hijack and we can found lotta stuffs in particular sites that let you get the access freely. In strategic terms that sucks. The VHS/DVD/Blue-Ray support got the same curse: any data support could be converted and then shared/copied/... once again there is no hope. The camgirls/amateurs have understood that to be "closer to the audience" this "intimate/exclusive side" is a "capital gain" in short terms... and curiously there is not so much piracy concerning this kind of porn (don't know why).
I'm bored looking at the upcoming releases from all those online websites and realize that they are all the same with the same pornstars (same types/shapes).
The last production that was promising at first sight (looking the covers ^^) was "Nyomi Banxxx is hardcore" (back to 2010) but after two weeks (more I think) of unbearable wait (the delays to receive it) I was disappointed at the end. And then, yes, one or two times a month I have the hope that something will give me what porn gave me from 1999 to 2006... unfortunately it didn't untill now.
Porn is a dyin' industry... I can't believe it, but it has to change the way it works (in financial terms).

Piracy is killing porn, our company doesn't sell as many units as it used to.. We used to sell 10000 copies of a vid, now we only sell 5000.. That has to be because the other 5000 are downloaded illegally..
Err well no, maybe it is because once upon a time there were (lets just say) 50 porn companies, and now there are 500 porn companies, and another 5000 independant female web sites..
In tota, the same amount of money (+growth) is made by the porn industry, but it is now shared by a larger amount of companies, thus declining individual income...
"we deserve to be paid for our hard work!"
Seriously, how hard is it to film ppl having sex?! From what I can tell lately is that the hardest thing is to keep your stale male performers hard because the apathetic in it for the money female performers don't turn them on..
As for those performers who do put on a show worth watching and attract a loyal fanbase, bloody pay them royalties, make it worth their whileto keep giving us a good show andworth our while to keep buying their product..
Personally I don't give 2 hoots about what company produced my porn, I watch it for the hotness in front of the camera, not the corporate leeches behind it..

And today? Are people not listening to music anymore or not paying to see concerts?

There is no universal rule saying that each and everyone is entitled to making money the way they desire. Adapt to the enviroment.
And all these lost jobs have been sinking through a big black hole or what? Maybe the exact amount of jobs you're saying have been lost have transformed into other areas, ISPs, streaming websites, hardware manufacturers etc?
Yes, but at the same time: just because a porn movie was downloaded doesn't automatically mean that I would have been bought if technology didn't allow downloading.
And you keep producing movies, fooling yourself into believing that customers are interesting in the same stuff/character/style over and over again? Just because it feels comfortable?
Maybe all these millions of downloadings have sparked new interest in bands - and in the long run genres - what would've been slightly behind everything else if download wasn't an option. Ever thought about that?
My main point here is that Internet downloads function in both directions - there is very little use in arguing about one aspect only... take both into consideration.

Tiger,..why would Quasarman go out of his way to post about these topics in a mis-informed manner? does he need sympathy? will him stretching the truth about the truth garner more dvd sales?...no, it won't. there are dynamics about this XXX business that none of you can ever know until you are actually part of it. and then, you still will never have the inside track to what actually goes down across the board for the real players and trenchworkers of XXX. it's insulting to see you blatantly and abruptly disregard his reply as if he's some internet fly-by. Mike Quasar has been doing this for how long? you dont know what he does, or doesn't have to show for his YEARS of shooting and back-breaking camerawork. so please, show a 'little' respect and just let the guy say how it is, because that's pretty much 'how it is'...
you can, by all means, take this post/reply personal too, because you sure seemed intent on showing Quasarman just how off-base and out of line he was w/your very unfriendly breakdown. in case ANY of you forgot, this is something a small percentage of us are COMMITTED to, and the dishonesty and thievery of many, have stripped us almost bare. give us some room to be proud of what we made our names as during very competitve times before the floodgates opened and all of our content was accessed for free and given away w/no compensation or recourse. lates, Von S.
p.s.; please note that I dont work w/Mike Quasar, or owe that dude anything. I'm just sticking up for a guy who's worked his ass off in a very ungrateful industry for a long and respectable amount of time. -T.V.S.4

So you're saying that just he's a well known face in the industry makes every statement he does perfection and unreachable for criticism?
Perhaps yes. And perhaps there are dynamics about this whole business that none of you producer guys can understand unless having been a part of the consumer side.
Maybe my response to him was caused by me feeling equally insulted as if us customers where braindead people in this filesharing debate?
Maybe we can let the man speak for himself then? Is he still surfing these boards?
I also noticed that you didn't respond to my actual arguments in this filesharing-destryoing-porn discussion, any reason for that?
So the vast majority of "porn people" are not committed to their agenda?
Have I denied you guys the right to be proud of what you do by posting a single post at an Internet board? Hold your horses just a bit.
Enlighten me, is porn business a more ungrateful industry in comparison to every other industry out there?
If porn is dying - according to his (and in the long run your opinion as well) - maybe you von_swine can write a few lines about how youre trying to survive? How are you improving and adapting your products in this digital environment?
