I dont expect scenes and the performers for scenes with storylines to be Oscar worth performances. With limit budgets that most studios have to work with and restrictions on what directors can do in terms of ideas its hard to put high level dialogue out there. I once talked to a director who is a performer as well and she told me all the great ideas she has in her brain for storylines but she cant do it bc there are so many restrictions on what she can put on camera. So when Im watching storyline scenes my expectations arent extremely high. When it comes to performers acting my expectations arent extremely high bc none of them are Jessica Chastain who won an Academy Award for best actress in a leading role at the Oscars this year.
I do agree that there are alot of crappy storylines where it doesnt look like the studio even tries. It's one thing to not be into a particular person; that's just the actual daily job hazard.
