I just checked out the new True Lesbian scene with Holly Day and Serene Siren. Wow, one of my favourite scenes of the year. It had everything I want from a lesbian scene, 2 gorgeous women (Serene is GLOWING here, she's so beautiful), sensual sex, a simple and (somewhat) plausible story/script, great "dirty" talk and the fake porn sounds are kept to an absolute minimum. It was 45 minutes, I could have watched them for at least an hour. There is a 69 but it wasn't too long and it was done well so I can't complain. Also, I don't think Serene had an orgasm but Holly had 2 that looked legit. Holly looked really gay in the outfit they had her in as well, good stuff. Well worth checking out imo.

A review of Switch Awakening, something I had high hopes for. Bit of a mixed bag, great performances by both women to be sure, just the same hampered majorly by direction and camera work.
That does look good! The pairings look quite interesting. I like to see body contrasts as well as age gaps in older/younger scenes so the cover pair of Demi and Queenie has potential. Demi has that cute young and innocent look that is just begging to be seduced and by an older woman. I see Dee Williams is in the last scene. I am not a fan of Dee's as she does not like to kiss properly. No tongue just lots of closed mouth pecks. a scene without great kissing always falls flat in my opinion as it shows the woman is not really into girls.

Anyway, here is a review of a couple of scenes from an older movie that came out in Dec 2021, titled "1st Time Lesbian Massage." Two points of interest: it's from Penthouse Gold (which is why I missed it when it came out -- who knew they even produced new content at the time?), and the pairings are great.
The first is between Freya Parker and Lilly Belle. According to IAFD, this is their one and only scene together. It's a very good scene and as a fan of both women I'm happy to have watched it. Lilly's oral is hot and wet and sexy.
Freya's oral is of course excellent as usual. It gets even better when she pushes two fingers into Lilly. Unfortunately the last part of the scene gets boring as they just take turn using a handheld dildo on each other.

Quite a few people on this forum believe contemporary mainstream g/g porn has gotten worse. I don't agree at all. Sure, there were great performers and scenes in the past, but there are plenty today too. Of course, some of that is subjective and is useless to argue over. Overall I tend to agree that the narrative about G/G getting worse, being better in some nebulous "past", is not truly on point. Your list for example - I see a few in there but the majority I just don't agree with or feel the same way on. You'd expressed that you thought it was too personal to have genuine orgasms and such on screen, that it was asking too much from the performers, too personal and that it was a line you don't think needed to be crossed and that was just such an diametrically opposed juxtaposition to my standpoints it left me reeling when I read it. Left a real disconnect, overall don't feel like we agree much about the porn world or G/G content.

For the rest of it, I've said a lot of things, so I can't remember everything. But it seems like you may have confused two things.
1. With respect to orgasm, my opinion is that it's not necessary for me as a viewer. For one thing, there's no way for me to know for sure. Only the performer herself will know, and I feel no need to press for some proof, if any such proof is even possible. If she has an orgasm, good for her. If not, I have no problem with it.
2. With respect to privacy, that is when I said it's too personal and potentially crossing a line. I believe this was brought up when Aya asked my opinion on a scene between Gracie Glam and Brooke Lee Adams. For those unfamiliar with it, this scene included a pre-scene interview where the two talked in detail about their off-screen failed romantic relationship. Both got very emotional, and tears were involved. I thought this was highly personal and private and was inappropriate. These are people performing a scene, in many ways similar to mainstream Hollywood actors. I care about what I see on screen, but talk of their personal sexuality, their real-life partners -- this is just like paparazzi/celebrity gossip, which I don't care for at all.
Lastly, let me say that "real vs fake" is a complicated topic. We as viewers look at the final product; what we don't see is the complex process of how the sausage is made, so to speak. Once you peer into that, things are never that black and white. I have cited an academic paper titled "Porn Work, Feminist Critique, and the Market for Authenticity" by Heather Berg before. I think it's worthwhile to quote it at length here.

The scenes performers talked about feeling most proud of and energized by were those in which they experienced a connection with their on-screen partners. This connection need not be based on sexual desire, however. Performers also describe camaraderie between friends or respect between colleagues as real connections that facilitate the work of performance.

The point is that all on screen "realness" is manufactured. They are all performance. But the best way to manufacture it is if the on screen partners have a connection, which could be genuine sexual connection, but it also could be simply acknowledgment and respect for each other as coworkers for putting in genuine work to make a good scene.

Looking through some of the photos, you are probably right about "aspiring models." Many of them are very thin. That whole models/eating disorder thing is no mere idle talk. Of course there are women like that in porn, but many are much more full-figured.

Yeah that whole paper is very illuminating, because it really talks about porn from the other side, the production (rather than consumption/viewing) side. It's full of quotes and interviews, but not the sort of interviews that we see in porn, but interviews where the author asks the porn performers to articulate how they think of their work. I would highly, highly recommend that paper to anyone who is even remotely interested in mainstream/professional porn of any kind.
It's natural that people default into thinking about porn in terms of realism/authentic desires/etc. The reality is that more often than not, the first time the two women ever meet in person is the day they meet on the set, and one or two hours later they have to have sex in front of a camera. It has to be craft. You can't just "let it happen" and hope for the best.
I'm one of these people who believes that the majority of the g/g porn made in the last decade is usually inferior to what was made in the previous decade but rarely because of who is in front of the camera. In my opinion it's who is behind the camera forwhy I rarely enjoy more recent g/g porn. I don't even think that it's a lack of talent so much as a question of philosophy. For me kissing is why I prefer g/g porn to b/g porn and if it's not in a g/g video or it is so piss poorly done than no matter what follows. I won't really enjoy the scene. There is significantly less kissing. There is also not much breast-play (unless one performer has strange-looking chest surgery, then they focus on it).
Most performers today don't want prolonged, super-intimate physical contact with another woman (G4P, like the term or not), they don't have any desire to make the shoot look like sex, and also..they simply don't *have to* make the shoot look like sex because most of the people still paying for porn aren't interested in that.
Producers know that the 2 things they need for most buyers is some kind of dialogue to establish that maybe there is not 100% consent to sex and the appearance that the performers are uncomfortable with what they are doing,
I am quite sympathetic to your view as I'm too a big fan of kissing. Sure, some contemporary scenes don't have good kissing. But that I think is mostly down to specific performers, such as Amber Moore, who apparently just doesn't like kissing that involves tongue (but is otherwise a great performer). Here we can see examples of those who got the "you shall not pass" treatment: Freya Parker, Penny Barber, Haley Reed, Skylar Snow.
But just looking at these four women who are her partners, they are perfectly capable of tongue kissing other scene partners: Freya & Victoria Voxxx, Penny & Serene Siren, Haley & Jayden Cole, Skylar & Sonny McKinley.
May I suggest a possible explanation to your feeling that there's less kissing today, even though I don't think there's any real evidence to this? Judging by your words (and # of posts), it seems you have been watching porn since at least the early 2000s, if not before. I started in the late 1990s. During those days the women just did not kiss at all, or it was little more than a few quick pecks. When things started changing and kissing and foreplay as a whole were dramatically expanded -- such as the original Viv Thomas productions -- I was amazed and those videos made a huge impression on me, since they were so novel, so unlikely what existed before. That's why they seemed so remarkable and memorable.
Today, kissing and foreplay have been so thoroughly integrated into the "standard package" of the majority of the studio productions that they are no longer remarkable. In fact, it's those that are lacking in such things that tend to stand out and draw attention (either by design/philosophy like many Brazzers productions, or due to individual performer preferences like the Amber example above).
Whatever else this is, it's not an interview🤣 Holly just took over the conversation and started going on and on about her self. Evelyn talked probably 30% of the time. A lot of it is just very standard, expected stuff. It could have been a much more interesting conversation, like the one between Heather Berg and Ela Darling in that paper I keep harping on. For example, Holly could have asked Evelyn about how she works with women she knows that are attracted women, women who she knows that are not attracted to women (or just not her, though it's not easy to imagine someone who is attracted to women, but just not Evelyn, unless they are exclusively interested in masculine women), women whom she is attracted to, women whom she is not attracted to. What kind of pre-scene conversation do they have? What do they ask from each other? What do directors ask for? Do they push back on this or that? How do different studios differ, if they differ, on their approaches?
On a side note, as Holly pointed out, penises are dirty (if you only touch vaginas, you are not even doing porn). At least in the US. It's wild how in Japan's porn it's the upside-down bizzaro world (from our perspective) where vaginas are dirty.
^^That's one of my pet peeves with Holly's podcast. There are definitely good episodes here and there (Highly recommend the one with Aiden Starr for those who want to learn more about lesbian & queer performers who embrace their gender fluidity in their work). But she often will have interviews where the vast majority of the episode is her filibustering for long stretches of time. It addresses porn in general (the only time it addresses g/g genre specifically is that Ela Darling long quote). The source material is interviews the author had with insiders, which were conducted around 2015. She also attended several actual shoots to observe. It looks at porn not from the consumer's perspective, but producers (performers, directors, studio owners) as work (pay, working condition).
In some sense, it can be read as a critique of a type of feminist critique of porn. Everyone knows about the traditional critique, which is just "porn bad." Another critique is to be more sex-positive, but says mainstream porn, because it's highly commercialized, is not "authentic," so we should search for "authentic" portrayal of sex outside of mainstream studios, for example in self-proclaimed feminist or queer porn studios. This paper critically examines this second perspective and shows how problematic it is.
Anyway if you do read it, let me know what you think. I and a few others have already discussed it in the "feminist porn" thread.
I won't speak for others, just say my criticism of current g/g porn has nothing to do with nostalgia. I believe the studio porn system is dying a slow, painful death. This is the first example and the tags I used. Yeah I was trying to get an image where they are standing on the moon, but they just placed an extra the moon in the sky 😂 Also, I chose "perfect boobs," and they came out much larger than what I had in mind 😄
The second example. The "kissing" is even worse, and I'm not sure what make them "Latina" (in fact I didn't even know what to expect when I chose that tag), but I'm happy about the "fantasy armor" 😄
